The parking problem becomes especially noticeable during the summer heat. Standing in the sun during the day, the car resembles a sauna. This can be solved if the “house horse” is equipped with a climate control system. However, such luxury is not available in all Automotive products, and tinting is prohibited by law. Car curtains will help solve the problem. Several types are available for self-production. Let's talk about them.
Protection from light and heat in cars
- Choosing the color of curtains for cars
- Type of car tinting from sunlight
Functions of car curtains
The main functions of car curtains include:
- car curtains protect people in the car from direct sunlight;
- car curtains protect passengers and car belongings from the views of surrounding people;
- car curtains reduce the temperature in the cabin, thereby increasing comfort and protecting the upholstery and other finishing materials from damage by ultraviolet radiation;
- car curtains increase driving safety by diffusing headlight light at night (when installed on the rear window);
- car curtains create an atmosphere of comfort and coziness in the cabin and give the car a progressive look;
- the use of car curtains increases the efficiency of a car air conditioner (up to 30%;), while reducing its wear and fuel consumption.
Car curtains, unlike tinting, can be quickly removed and installed, so when parked for a long time on sunny days, they can be mounted on all windows for the comfort of passengers.
Considering these functions, we can conclude that curtains for a car are a necessary accessory and the safety and comfort and even the well-being of passengers depend on its properties and quality.
Alternative methods
If you want to make car curtains quick-removable, they can be attached to the glass using suction cups. These fasteners can be purchased at a plumbing supply store and are typically used to install soap dishes, toilet paper holders, and many other fixtures.
The wire frame must be supplemented with two crossbars passing through the middle of the curtain - two or four suction cups can be placed on them.
True, you won’t be able to make the device movable, but with the ability to quickly remove it, you won’t need such a design. Those who want to save their time can also take a fairly large foil reflector for trucks or photo studios and cut out two curtains from it according to the size of the windows. All that remains is to hem the edges and install suction cups on which such a protective device will be attached.
Video about car curtains:
A reflective surface will be especially useful in the summer because, unlike black fabric, it will help prevent the interior from overheating. However, it will interfere inside, so the curtain will need to be covered with fabric, choosing a color that matches the upholstery. This option will be very simple to implement and effective, although there is no need to talk about great aesthetics.
Responsibility for the use of car curtains
It is necessary to remind motorists that while parked, when the car is not used for its intended purpose, the owner has the right to use any means of tinting, be it curtains, blinds or a blanket. But while driving, the driver does not have the right to use objects, means, or coatings that limit (degrade) visibility and visibility.
The installation of curtains or nets of any light transmission is not a violation of traffic rules until they are closed. In fact, this means that the owner in the parking lot has the right to close the curtain and there is no penalty for this.
The traffic rules do not prohibit the installation of curtains or blinds on the rear doors and rear window, provided there is normal visibility through the side mirrors. The use of curtains or other devices that reduce light transmission on the front side windows and windshield is strictly prohibited.
In case of violation of the requirements of traffic rules regarding the use of car curtains, liability is provided in accordance with the Code of Administrative Offenses - a warning, a fine, depending on the inspector’s classification of the use of curtains.
Where to install?
Having made a car curtain with your own hands, you can install it on any glass, but will such an action be legal? The current Rules regulate the permeability of the windshield and front side windows, prohibiting even sticking too dark a tint film on them. The curtains are completely opaque, so they cannot be used when moving.
All that remains is the rear window and the side windows located next to it.
This solution will help create maximum comfort for passengers who will feel as if they are in a luxury car. However, it remains to resolve the issue with the front curtains - are they prohibited or not? Of course, the traffic police inspector may require the removal of such devices and issue a fine under the following conditions:
- If the curtains block the driver's view;
- If they completely cover the window;
- If the transparency of the fabric does not exceed 80%.
It is clear that all requirements can only be met if the curtains are completely folded. You can also move them apart, but only when the car is stationary.
Types of curtains for cars
Today there are a large number of different types of curtains for cars on sale. Apart from “Chinese know-how” with “nano molecular” coating, four types of car curtains should be distinguished:
- Sliding textile car curtains are the oldest type of curtains. These curtains are similar to home curtains. An analogue of such curtains was used in carriages and trains of the 19th century. These curtains are very common in luxury cars, as the best protection from solar radiation (depending on the material, light transmission can be close to 0) and from the eyes of passers-by and other road users. These curtains look very stylish and are available in different color variations.
The fastening of such curtains is varied - with hooks to the cornice from below and above, to slats built into the trim. This type of car curtains is very convenient to use, since with just a simple movement the curtains can be moved and the window can be opened without difficulty. The material in such curtains can be easily replaced.
- Frame car curtains are the most common type of car curtains. This type of curtain has a metal (plastic) frame, equal in size to the car window opening, and a mesh or material applied to it that performs protective and decorative functions. This design is very practical - easy to assemble, install and dismantle. This type of curtain does an excellent job of protecting against sunlight and insects. It is these curtains that can be made at home without any special skills or hassle.
- Automotive sunscreens are the most common and universal type of curtains. They have a universal shape (suitable for all types of cars) and a universal fastening to the glass - a suction cup. It has a huge number of shapes and colors (including bright children's colors with drawings). Screens are very popular among motorists as they are practical (easy to install and dismantle), not expensive (the cheapest of the entire family of car curtains), and can be used for any car, which makes them universal.
However, these car curtains have many disadvantages - the dimensions of the curtains are usually smaller than the actual dimensions of the window opening of the car, which means that the glass does not completely cover, the low quality of the materials used in the manufacture of such curtains, low reliability of fastening (the curtain may fall when the temperature changes), the possibility of damage to the mechanisms window lifter (if the curtain is not removed when lowering the glass, the curtain or suction cup may become chewed)
- Plastic car curtains are mainly Chinese mechanisms capable of being rolled up and unfolded or blinds. It is a convenient and functional analogue of a car sun screen. Installation is quick and easy using glue or self-tapping screws.
Curtains, like screens, are universal and their sizes do not take into account specific car brands, which means they do not fully perform the main functions. The market offers mostly curtains made mainly from low-quality materials that lose color and shape during use.
Materials used for the manufacture of car sunshades
In the manufacture of frame car curtains, special materials are used that are resistant to ultraviolet radiation, low (car curtains in most cases are not removed by car owners during the winter period of operation and off-season) and high temperatures, mechanical and chemical (resistance to oils, gasoline) influences. The material should not lose its structure and properties over time.
Materials can have small, medium and large cells, thereby providing a degree of light transmission. Some materials may not allow light to pass through completely. It is precisely because of this versatility that some car enthusiasts have several sets of car curtains with different degrees of light transmission.
Making frame car curtains yourself at home
Making frame curtains yourself is not a difficult task. The manufacturing procedure can be described by the following sequence of actions:
- Measurement of the car opening for which the curtain is being made;
- Manufacturing of metal curtain frame;
- Marking and making the fabric base of the curtain;
- Fixation of material;
- Curtain installation.
Remember that if you do not have the proper experience, then after fairly diligent work, the result may be far from the desired, including damage to the car upholstery during installation. Assess your strengths.
Measurement of the car opening for which the curtain is made
Required: tape measure, car, pencil, notepad.
When measuring, first you need to accurately sketch the geometric shape of the window. The resulting dimensions must be increased by 2-3 mm, since the curtain must be installed in a spacer.
If the weather and the location of the car allows, it is better to bend the frame without measuring directly in place under each window.
Manufacturing a metal curtain frame
Necessary: tape measure, wire, hacksaw, pliers, opening measurements.
To make the frame, you need to take galvanized steel or stainless steel wire. This material will help preserve the car upholstery and curtains from traces of rust in the off-season and when exposed to moisture. The thickness of the wire is 2-5 millimeters. The length of the wire depends on the perimeter of the window with a margin of 5-10 centimeters.
If you have wire in stock without a special coating and you plan to use it, then first paint it with metal paint (necessarily after molding) or tie it with insulating tape or tape. This will help resist rust.
We bend the frame according to the existing geometric dimensions. We try to ensure that the bend is in the same plane. Right angles are ensured with a pair of pliers or two. The ends of the wire can be fixed with insulating tape with an overlap of 3-5 centimeters or crimped, or secured with a lock (a hollow tube, for example, a segment from an antenna, can be used as a lock).
Before moving on to the next stage, it is necessary to measure the resulting frame in place. If the frame fits with a large interference, you need to reduce the walls of the structure. If the frame is not fixed in the opening, it needs to be redone taking into account the recommendation for a gap of 2-3 millimeters.
Marking and making the fabric base of the curtain
Required: fabric base for the curtain, scissors, pencil, curtain frame.
We place the metal frame of the curtain on a fabric base for outlining. We draw the outline with approximately a margin of 2 centimeters on each side for bending. When measuring, we do not stretch the base. We cut the outlined material and apply it to the frame again. If everything comes together, we move on to the next stage.
To save fabric base, you should first measure and cut large frames, and then small ones. Measuring should start from the edge of the base.
Fixing the material
Necessary: thread, needle, glue, braid (cambric, elastic), clothespins, material, curtain frame.
Using clothespins, we fix the fabric base to the edges of the frame. Next, you need to flash the entire frame. The stitching should be done on a machine using braid (cambric or wide elastic band to match the color) along the edges, making sure that the base does not puff up (not aesthetically pleasing) or overtighten (can lead to deformation of the frame). When hand stitching, start with parallel sides to ensure even distribution. When stitching by hand, you should stitch along the edge of the braid (cambric, elastic). This will give the curtain a neat factory-made appearance. Some manufacturers glue the edges and kinks with glue for additional fixation. For reliability and durability, the firmware should be carried out twice.
Additionally, we sew a loop of braid or elastic in two places for quick removal of the car curtain.
If you are not confident in your sewing abilities or strive for perfection in crafts, you can contact a tailoring studio. A neat seam in the studio will not spend a lot of time and money.
Curtain installation
Required: ready-made curtain, car.
We mount the resulting curtain in the window opening, pressing it horizontally. If you have followed all the recommendations in the article, the curtain should fit into the window space like a glove. If necessary, in case of brittleness, you can additionally stretch the material and hem it.
During the manufacturing process, the most valuable thing you spend is time. Homemade frame car curtains are much cheaper than factory and homemade ones. At the same time, you yourself can control the quality of components and the manufacturing process itself.
Making custom car curtains at home
For some cars (minivans, minibuses), buses, frame curtains are not entirely suitable due to the specifics of the vehicle and large window openings. Passengers (for example, on an excursion) want to see surrounding objects without unnecessary obstacles. What can be done in such cases to protect against sunlight?
The first method is the old one. Use of hooks, fishing line and knitted curtains. Hooks for quick installation (glue or self-adhesive). Hooks (mounting device) for curtains can be made independently (including from improvised means - metal screws) or bought at any hardware store or market. Instead of fishing line, you can use wire, but it does not have such an aesthetic appearance. The hooks are mounted along the upper edge of the window, and a fishing line is pulled over them. Curtains can be installed either only on the top string - holder, or on two parallel strings (top and bottom).
Unlike the manufacture of frame curtains, in this case it is very difficult to do without a sewing machine or studio. It is necessary to carefully sheathe a large piece of fabric and make holes for the holders.
Instead of strings, you can use metal or plastic tubes (as used in trains). Also in the markets you can buy cornice-type slats for curtains with hooks for installation and fishing line.
To give it an aesthetic look, you can sew or buy or buy curtain holders in hardware stores.
A similar design for curtains can be used in passenger cars, but instead of strings and hooks, you should purchase special guides with hooks. The guides are mounted directly into the window opening using glue. The curtain fabric is sewn separately and the hooks are installed.
Type of car tinting from sunlight
It is easy to replace film tinting with automotive textile curtains. However, road rules still prohibit the use of any structures not related to the vehicle’s configuration. The imposed fine of 500 rubles will make the comfort not very joyful. There is a solution - double glazing.
It is performed strictly in service centers and is a standard glass for a car with pre-made tinting. It is located inside the cabin, in front of the regular glass. It, just like roller car blinds, can be pulled out to the required height and removed if necessary. Of course, tuning costs a lot of money, but there will still be a payback on endless fines.
In conclusion, it should be said that such an accessory as car curtains is not only useful for darkening and comfort, but is also becoming increasingly popular due to its individuality, making the car not just an ordinary means of transportation, but also a status accessory for the owner. Side windows, windshield and even rear glass - they are all draped with appropriate textiles.
Independent work is not difficult and sometimes allows you to create a true exclusive.
I decided to post it because... I haven’t seen any quality homemade curtains here.
After driving for a couple of years without tinting, I finally decided to roll up the rear hemisphere (and with a 50% discount)), with the expectation of covering the front windows as well. I’m not going to pay fines or sit in jail. Therefore, the choice fell on frame curtains. I found removable tint impractical.
Frame. I found 5mm steel wire NOT annealed in the garage. I wrapped it with electrical tape (so as not to damage the paint and panels in the car) and started bending the frame. I didn’t make a pattern, I bent it along the window opening on the spot. The frame is made tightly, so any hooks for attaching the curtains to the window opening are not needed.
You don’t have to weld the ends (insulating tape, heat shrink helps), but since... There is welding, so I grabbed it. It took about 3.6m of wire for two curtains.
Mesh (the name of the material may be different, so there will be no specific name, choose it yourself, I used it by eye, by touch). Everything was purchased at a fabric store. 4 different materials were purchased. The main requirements are that it stretches and you can look through it normally. One of the purchased fabrics did not stretch well, as a result, folds formed and had to be excluded. Mark, cut out. 1 linear meter of material is enough for two curtains with a large margin.
Tip: To evenly stretch the mesh over the frame, cover the frame wire with double-sided tape. This will save you a lot of time and the result will be better. Pull it tighter so that the fabric does not sag in winter.
I stitched it with thread until it was covered with piping, so that it could be tested in real conditions on a car. You don’t have to do this, the tape holds it well.
Initially I tried to travel with such a mesh (many stores make custom-made curtains from such material). I’ll say right away - I don’t recommend it, because... It dazzles the eyes VERY MUCH. And it’s impossible to get used to this ripple
Then I pulled it from a finer mesh, played around with it, liked it, and only then trimmed it with edging. The edging was a black elastic band, bought there, 3 cm wide. It took her 2.5m. The elastic band needs to be pulled over the frame so that there are no folds in the corners. For these purposes I used pins. I trimmed the edging by hand. Added a loop for quick removal. The result is like the custom ones that advertise on the Internet...
There are no photos of the car. Yes, there are plenty of them anyway, you can look them up online.
Well, the purpose of this post is to show you that there is nothing complicated in making high-quality curtains, but the most important thing is the price, only less than 200 rubles were spent. Now imagine how all sorts of online stores, etc., make money by selling such curtains for 3500 rubles!
PS After a couple of years of use, some important points about the curtains:
The fabric needs to be stretchy so that wrinkles do not occur. Stretch the fabric more tightly, as it may sag in winter. The fabric material is the same as on tights (only fine mesh). Don’t take a large mesh, it will dazzle your eyes like hell. Don't make loops on top, there's no use for them, you can't pull out the mesh with them anyway. I always pull it from below in case the traffic police are slowing down.
Well, once again, finally: It will not replace simple tinting. Both in appearance and visibility from the inside to the street. Also, at certain angles to the sun, it begins to glow and becomes difficult to see through it.
Many car owners consider their car a “workhorse” that needs to be watered and fed, and it, in turn, performs the functions assigned to it. But there are many people whose relationship with the car cannot be called anything other than friendship. And they try to ensure that their four-wheeled friend looks appropriate and is always clean and well-groomed.
Frame curtains in a car
And if we don’t talk about the small army of lovers of serious auto tuning, then one of the ways to make your car more attractive and cozy is to install curtains on the windows. But since creating such beauty is not part of the plans of car manufacturers, you have to do this decoration yourself.
We intend to tell our visitors about what car curtains are intended for, what they are like, and what the technology is for making them yourself. We hope that this information will be enough to interest those for whom the interior of a car is not an empty place, and its interior is not a boxcar.
What are car curtains
Car curtains are removable pieces of thin mesh fabric that follow the shape of car windows. They are installed from the inside (from the cabin) and have a certain degree of transparency, allowing you to see everything that is happening outside. The curtains feel like a complete replacement for tinting.
If tinting is a coating that is applied once and for all (even a colored film cannot be easily removed), then the curtains can be installed or removed at any time at the request of the owner.
In hot weather, you can lower the windows without removing the curtains, which will allow you to ventilate the interior without letting in the sun's rays and without losing a level of privacy
In addition to purely decorative duties, providing a certain privacy and some darkening in the cabin, increasing coziness and comfort, the curtains protect from the scorching rays of the sun, which blind the eyes and fade the trim.
From the outside, a car with curtains on the windows is difficult to distinguish from a tinted one, but the properties of a special fabric or mesh are much more attractive. For example, the ability to quickly install or remove them from the glass will help during discussions with the traffic police inspector, while it will not be possible to deal with tinting without replacing the glass. In addition, unlike tinting, there is a large selection of curtains that can be changed at least every day.
The design of the curtains is simple and allows you to create a lot of options. The most common types include the following:
- Sunscreen. One of the most popular designs. Such curtains are very cheap - the price of a pair of screens does not exceed 200 rubles. Installation is extremely simple - the screens are equipped with suction cups, with which they are easily and quickly attached to the glass. Some users find them uncomfortable due to the incomplete coverage of the glass area, resulting in some amount of sunlight penetrating into the interior. In addition, this design somewhat impairs the driver’s visibility, although in any case it is prohibited to use the curtains while driving.
There are often complaints about the low quality of suction cups, which fail due to shaking and vibrations.
Users note the fragility of plastic; it quickly fades in the sun
It’s not difficult to find a set of textile curtains that fits your shape; you can also make it yourself
Frame curtains are preferred by users to tinting
Varieties
It is curious that there are now a number of types of curtains created for cars, including:
- sunscreens – their main purpose, as the name implies, is to darken the car’s interior, preventing the penetration of the brightest rays of the sun. The simplest models of such curtains are attached to the glass using ordinary suction cups or guides;
- frame - such curtains absolutely repeat the shape of a car window, and their design is a tightly stretched material on a metal frame, rubberized around the perimeter. The appearance of such curtains is very presentable, although after installation of the structure the window can no longer be opened;;
- plastic is the most common option. Such structures are made of flexible plastic that can be unfolded and folded many times, and they are mounted directly above the glass. When choosing such curtains, you should only remember that plastic is subject to rapid fading, which means it will lose its attractive appearance quite quickly. Also, all plastic models are made in standard sizes, so choosing the right ones for unusual windows may not be so easy;

Advantages and disadvantages
The use of car curtains gives the car owner certain advantages, but also has disadvantages. The advantages include:
- high speed of installation and removal;
- unlike pasting with film, there is no need to remove glass and spend large sums on material and labor;
- privacy, the privacy of the cabin from prying eyes remains even with the windows down (although not for all types of curtains);
- The mesh allows you to protect the interior from the penetration of insects, dust or small debris brought by the wind.
Curtains make visibility at night significantly lower, and on the side windows it becomes zero.
There are also disadvantages:
- You cannot use curtains while driving;
- the removed curtains need to be stored somewhere, and they are quite large;
- It’s not easy to find the most suitable curtains; the best examples are very expensive.
The disadvantages must be known and taken into account when choosing, although most users prefer to put up with them because of the undeniable advantages of curtains.
Many car owners are sure that only tinting is prohibited, and with curtains you can safely drive without fear of meeting a traffic police inspector. This is a misconception that should be eliminated. First of all, tinting (if we are talking about it) has never been prohibited. The exception is mirror coating, which creates dangerous situations while driving.
Tinting is completely legal, you can even blacken the windows completely, but you won’t be able to drive such a car.
According to current traffic regulations, the permitted degree of light transmission is 70%, that is, glass can only be tinted by 30%. This applies only to the front and side windows; the degree of tinting of the rear window is not regulated, provided there are normally working side mirrors on both sides.
Previously, the permitted degree of light transmission was 75%, but now it has been lowered slightly
You shouldn't think that 70% is a lot. In the picture there is a Tesla car with exactly this tint, and the windows on it are not too dark.
A car will not be able to pass inspection if all its windows are tinted.
The situation is exactly the same with curtains. You cannot drive with curtains installed, except for the rear one. In the parking lot - please, you can close all the windows, there will be no complaints from the traffic police, but before you start driving, the curtains will have to be removed.
The fine for driving with curtains installed is the same as for illegal tinting - 500 rubles.
Do-it-yourself frame curtains for cars - it's real!
Hello. Today on our website, www.autoposobie.ru, you will learn how to make frame curtains on car windows at home. Step-by-step instructions for making frame curtains for a car will save money and get an excellent and, importantly, not prohibited by law alternative to car tinting.
You all know what window tinting is, most of you own cars whose windows are tinted. This solution perfectly solves the problem of UV rays, as well as the problem of prying eyes that freely penetrate into the interior of a car that is not equipped with tinting.
Everything seemed simple and easy, pay the money, do the tint and go for a ride, but that’s not the case - the law doesn’t approve. More precisely, he approves, but only partially tinted cars, that is, those with only the rear windows tinted; all other options are, as they say, punishable by law. There is a fine for tinting and dismantling of this type of tuning right on the spot...
Why is he doing this, you might think!? What I mean is that frame curtains are good because they can perfectly solve the problem of tinting. Such curtains can be quickly installed and also easily and simply dismantled if necessary, for example, in case of complaints from the traffic police. This type of tinting, if you can call it that, very quickly became popular, as a result of which the cost of these simple, uncomplicated products has seriously increased, as a result of which many have denied themselves this pleasure. Others went the other way and tried to make such curtains with their own hands. What came of it you will find out further...
How to make it yourself
If there are no curtains of the desired shape, color or other parameters in stores, you can make them yourself. Making ordinary fabric curtains is not a problem, there is no point in even talking about it. Let's look at how you can make frame curtains.
To work you will need:
- steel wire about 2 mm thick;
- net;
- pliers;
- insulating tape;
- scissors, needle and thread.
The manufacturing process is simple:
- It is necessary to bend a frame from wire that exactly matches the shape of the car windows. Some sources recommend first making a cardboard template along which the frame is bent.
In practice, everything can be done easier and faster - if errors in creating a template lead to the need to make another one, then the wire can be straightened and bent again, correcting the error
Such curtains will cost much less, and their shape can be perfectly adjusted to the glass
Relevance of the issue
Often, tinting the windows in a car is a partial solution to the problem of reducing the amount of sunlight entering the cabin. When the sun's rays enter the interior space, they not only blind the driver, but bring discomfort to passengers and greatly heat up the temperature in the warm season. However, the most unpleasant result of sun exposure to a car is its destructive effect on upholstery fabric. It fades and begins to deteriorate, losing not only its aesthetic, but also its practical properties.
Car blinds are a fairly effective means of combating the sun's rays, and in addition, they will allow you to hide the interior of the car from prying eyes. The automotive market offers many variations of curtains, which are not suitable for many motorists in terms of cost or other parameters. Thus, many are wondering how to make curtains to protect the car interior on their own?
Types of homemade car curtains
Based on the individual needs of the motorist, as well as his budget, he can choose one of the types of curtains for himself. Possible options include:
- removable curtains;
- sliding;
- quick-release.
Next, we will consider each of the presented types in more detail.
Removable curtains
In order to manufacture such a means of sun protection in a car, certain supplies and tools will be required:
- sewing supplies (scissors, needles, threads);
- ribbon made of satin material;
- a piece of thin material;
- wire.
The last component is one of the most important, since it is the wire that will serve as the frame for the entire product. A thick steel wire will be useful, which should be plastic and be subject to deformation in the form of bending. Therefore, it is not recommended to use stainless steel or hardened steel.
So, let's look at the procedure for making curtains:
Having opened the passenger compartment door, it is necessary to attach the steel cord directly to the lower edge of the glass so that it fits into the frame and is firmly secured. This manipulation is repeated along the entire contour of the window, and it is important to ensure that no waviness forms on the wire. Having made the appropriate measurements and determined the dimensions of the future curtains, you should remove the wire and begin preparing the frame.
The next step is to stretch the fabric onto the frame, leaving a couple of centimeters of extra material on all sides for fastening. The fabric is stretched to such a state that it does not sag and does not distort the shape of the wire.
Having secured everything and received a preliminary prototype of the product, you should install the resulting version in the glass frame and check the strength at the joints. If necessary, size adjustments will be required. When all the dimensions exactly match the dimensions of the car glass, in the end all that remains is to trim the edges of the homemade curtain using satin ribbon.
Sliding curtains
In order to more simply and effectively complement the tinting function in the car interior, you should pay attention to the variation of the sliding product. The simplest type of sliding homemade curtains is not difficult to manufacture, but does its job perfectly. The main advantage of this option over the others is that such auto-blinds do not prevent the window from lowering.
To begin work, you will need materials similar to the first design option discussed above, and also an additional long wire string made of hard material in the amount of 2 pieces.
As preparation, you need to install a pair of hooks on each door. You can attach them in any convenient way, the main thing is that it ensures the strength of the fastening. To ensure maximum efficiency of the structure in operation, the strings should be located as close as possible to the edge of the glass.
The strings themselves play the role of guides, but they do not follow the contours of the window, unlike the first design option. The pattern of the fabric that will subsequently be stretched onto the guides must take this into account, and therefore it is recommended to give it a trapezoidal shape, truncated at one edge.
It is recommended that the piece of fabric has a couple of additional strips a few centimeters wide on each side. This will be needed for further fastening to the strings.
For the rear window, the task is somewhat easier, since the hooks for the strings can be attached directly to the upholstery near the car pillars. The pattern will present the shape of a regular trapezoid, which gradually tapers towards the top.
If necessary, if desired, it is possible to provide and manufacture a mechanism for opening/closing auto-blinds in manual or automated mode.
Quick release curtains
As an alternative to the first two options, we offer a fairly simple and fast method suitable for everyone. This method involves making quick-release curtains that are attached to the window glass using suction cups. You can purchase such fasteners at a hardware store or any plumbing store.
In this case, the wire frame can be strengthened with a pair of crossbars in the middle of the product. In the future, special suction cups can be attached to them. Despite the fact that auto curtains of this type do not move, they can be installed and disconnected extremely quickly at will, which is an undeniable advantage.
Option No. 2
These curtains are made from a special lining mesh. They sit on a wire frame, and as a result do not have fastenings, which is very convenient. They can be installed and removed at any time. Photo and video lessons with more visual actions can be viewed additionally.
To make such curtains with your own hands, you will need the following materials and tools:
- Mesh lining fabric;
- Tape measure;
- Steel wire with a cross-section of no more than 2 mm;
- Wire cutters and pliers;
- Satin ribbon 2-3 cm wide;
- Sewing needle, sharpened sewing scissors.
The initial step, of course, will be to measure the car windows. They are measured separately, along the perimeter, then everything is summed up. The total length (linear meter) will be the length of the necessary consumables (wire, tape).
Next we make a wire frame. To do this, bend the wire around the perimeter of the windows. Then we make a 3mm overlap. We connect both ends tightly with electrical tape or construction tape. Important! The frame must be strictly the size of the window, but at the same time closely follow its contours so that it is convenient to install and remove the curtains.
After this, the frame is placed on the laid out fabric, and the contours are cut out with a margin of up to 2 cm. Then the cut out pieces are secured to the frame with a thread. It is necessary to stitch in such a way that the mesh does not sag, but does not squeeze the frame too much. It is worth noting that mesh fabric is quite difficult to sew, and it is best to attach it to the frame without making additional holes with a needle, but by pulling the thread through the existing holes.
It will also be necessary to cut off any excess pieces of fabric that may remain so that after attaching the tape they do not peek out and spoil the look.
After the curtains are ready, you can cover the wire with tape to give it the look and protect the mesh itself from abrasion.
They are made according to the same example for all the glass in the car, and will significantly reduce the temperature in the scorching sun.
