Renault Logan is a cheap car from now on from the French manufacturer Renault, designed specifically for the markets of developing countries. The Russian variation of the second generation of the Renault Logan sedan, famous in the Russian Federation, was slightly declassified back in the spring of 2014. After some time, French specialists opened a list of configurations and named all the prices.
The second generation of the Logan car for buyers from Russia differs from the version produced for European countries not only in its exterior, but also in its technical component. Therefore, it makes sense to take a closer look at the second generation of Renault Logan, which is already ready to take the baton from its previous model, which is very popular among drivers of the Russian Federation. Exterior
In terms of external components, a new car with a different body design is actually seriously different. It’s very hard to even call a car budget, it’s so beautiful. Thanks to changes in the appearance of the car, the side of the car, rear and front were seriously transformed. As a result, the French-Romanian car looks more fresh and quite elegant, which could not be said about its predecessor. The nose of the 2nd generation Renault Logan sedan allows you to immediately notice all the changes.
Here came the presence of eye-catching rectangular headlights, an aggressive air intake with nameplates and a fine mesh, an original aerodynamic “lip”. The fog lights, which were located in black inserts, look very cool. There is a new design of the manufacturer's emblem and a stylish silhouette. Thanks to thoughtful design elements, a truly modern exterior is formed.
The horizontal slits of the false radiator grille with a large Renault diamond are decorated with a chrome trim. Due to the fact that the front bumper has an enlarged air intake, the car seems to hint at its sporting qualities. The fog lamp cannons are located on the front fairing and are a harmonious element on a fairly simple car. It’s worth saying right away that they will be installed only as a separate option.
The hood hinges, which are noticeable when closed, cause a little discomfort - this indicates an economy of design. From the side, the Renault Logan remains practically recognizable, but now it is crowned with convex wheel arches, neatly made on the wings and stampings on the lower part. As in the first generation, external door handles were made with a lower grip, and the lock cell was located under the handle itself.
The gas tank cap has a square shape, like in the pre-restyling model. There is also a fly in the ointment here, because the lid can only be opened with the help of a key, which remains in the cork after opening. For the plug itself, a special small loop was provided on the lid of the gasoline tank.
The aft part of the sedan received a large luggage compartment lid, on which the spoiler stamping was successfully located. Also noticeable is the compact rear bumper along with the stylish side lamp shades. The rear pillar is still very wide, but when compared to the previous model, it is more elegant. The rear-mounted lights extend horizontally, rather than upward, as was before.
Just because of the lights, the trunk opening became a little narrower. The trunk lid can be opened using a button, but the convenient “tab” that helped to open the trunk lid can no longer be found here, which is a shame; it was present in an earlier version. In general, if you quickly look at the Renault Logan, an association is created with the Lada Granta and Volkswagen Polo Sedan.
Motorsport
Logan Cup
Renault Sport Technologies has developed kits to prepare the Logan 1.6 MPi for participation in sports competitions. There are three options for kit kits: for circuit racing, for asphalt rallies and for dirt rallies. Cars converted using these kits meet FIA Group N requirements[33].
According to the developers, the main purpose of such cars is to participate in circuit and rally monocups. That is, in competitions where all participants compete in identical cars. Currently, such cups are held in Romania (rally Cupa Dacia Logan JOE)[34], France (circuit JCup Feu Vert)[35], Germany (circuit ADAC Dacia Logan Clubsport)[36] and Russia (rally Renault Logan Cup)[ 37][38].
Logan 2.0 RS
The German branch of Renault Sport, based on the Logan Cup, has developed a more powerful version of the car, Dacia Logan 2.0 RS. The standard power unit is replaced by a two-liter engine from the Renault Clio RS with a Sadev sequential cam gearbox. Engine power increased from 182 to 200 hp.[39] This replacement was made possible thanks to the widespread unification of Logan with Renault Clio.
This car was used by the crew of Pavel Firmanyuk and Galina Prakhova (ALTECA SPORT team) at the Golden Domes 2008 rally (stage of the Russian Rally Cup)[40]. Due to the fact that Logan with a two-liter engine is not produced commercially, such a car can only be used in rallies in the national class P11: such a car is not allowed in the international classes N3 and A7.
Logan S2000
Renault Sport Technologies has developed a Super 2000 category rally car based on Logan (all-wheel drive cars with a naturally aspirated two-liter engine producing about 270 hp). In 2005, asphalt tests were carried out with the participation of Simon Jean-Joseph. Later, for unspecified reasons, this program was discontinued.[41]
RTCC
In the 2010 season, Evgeniy Meites drove a Renault Logan in the national class, took part in the seventh stage, and ultimately took 25th place for the season.
In the 2011 season, after the third stage, Evgeniy Meites, driving a Renault Logan in the National class, took seventh place with 83 points.
Renault Logan Stepway
Logan Stepway is an off-road version of the Logan sedan[42].
Interior
If we talk about the interior of the Renault Logan, it has become not only more beautiful, but also more pleasant to feel. Speaking about the quality of finishing materials, it has increased noticeably and this can be seen in almost everything. Almost every element of the car was carefully designed. This is noticeable in the attractive structure of the plastic, the voluminous texture of the seat material, neat chrome trim, and so on. The panel of the new sedan is assembled from a large number of components, which received a chrome edging.
The interior turned out elegant through the use of textured plastic and voluminous seat upholstery. Separately, I would like to mention the door panels, which in the updated Renault Logan sedan received convenient handles and electric window buttons, which were moved to a more standard place. The engineering staff decided to do the same with the mirror settings remote control, which is now much easier to find than in the previous version.
The seats of the new Renault Logan 2 turned out to be soft and cozy, as eloquently evidenced by the solid side support bolsters and smooth adjustment of the backrest tilt. The instrument panel has three dials clad in chrome, as well as smooth lines of the dashboard - all this looks quite appropriate and attracts attention. A trip computer has appeared on the instrument panel, which can display all the necessary information (outdoor temperature, data on the distance traveled since the last refueling and information on average and current fuel consumption).
True, the number of functions will depend on the configuration. The adjustment of the driver's seat and steering column will depend on the latter. Despite the fact that the center console looks like a sports console, it has increased in size, making it possible to install a display with a diagonal of 7 inches. It is also interesting that it supports voice control. The unit for setting up the air conditioning system is placed right at hand, which makes setting up this function easier.
The installed rear seats are simply amazing. They can be conveniently folded into parts. It is very important that all this functions perfectly and does not jam - this is an excellent trump card for a budget car. After the release of the new sedan, there is much more free space for passengers sitting in the back. There has been a noticeable increase in free space at the feet of passengers sitting in the rear, and a central armrest has also appeared (as a separate option).
The sofa is designed for three adult passengers. There are also ISOFIX mounts, which will allow you to install three child seats. This also applies to the luggage compartment, which has also become larger, especially when the rear seat backs are folded down. Without folded backrests, its volume is 510 liters of usable space. Everything mentioned above, of course, applies to the non-standard modification of Logan. However, today you will not be offered a completely “empty” car, at least not from Renault.
If previously they offered cars with unpainted bumpers, small wheels and without seat belts, now this no longer exists. Of course, despite the fact that the changes have affected many parts of the Renault Logan interior, they are still made from budget materials, but not of the lowest quality. Everything related to ergonomics, modern design and materials is all present inside the Renault Logan 2. Control of external mirrors has become even easier.
I was very pleased with the presence of additional niches for the safety of all sorts of little things. The glove box has a volume of 5.7 liters, and pockets for bottles or other things are present not only on the front doors, but also on the rear. On top of the center console there was room for a new compartment for small items. The Media Navi navigation system can function in both Ukraine and Russia.

Power unit
If we talk about the technical component of the new sedan of the French-Romanian production Renault Logan, it received a 90-horsepower three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline power unit, the volume of which is 0.9 liters. For European buyers, an option will be offered with a 1.2-liter engine that produces 75 horsepower and a 1.5-liter diesel engine. Absolutely all power units that operate on diesel fuel are equipped with a start/stop system.
Like the previous model, Renault Logan is produced in the Russian Federation, which also produces Renault Duster. For the Russian market, Renault Logan will be equipped with a pair of power units, the volume of which is the same - 1.6 liters. An 82-horsepower engine with 8 valves is provided as standard, which reaches the first hundred in 11.9 seconds, and the top speed is 173 km/h.
The 102-horsepower engine already provides acceleration to 100 km/h in 10.5, and a top speed of 185 km/h. Its consumption will be 1 liter in the combined cycle per 100 km. The engine complies with Euro-5 standards. Initially, synchronization for these power units was only with a 5-speed manual gearbox, but the summer of 2015 made it possible to count on the presence of a 4-range automatic.
The 82-horsepower engine works with a 5-speed Easy`R robot with the Eco option and the Hill Start Assist system, which will not allow the car to roll back. Its consumption will be about 7.2 liters in the combined cycle. In addition to Renault, a similar base is used in Nissan Almera and Lada Largus. Although the platform is still the same (VO), French engineers changed the anti-roll bar and redid the suspension settings along with the steering, which made it possible to make the car more adapted to the roads of the Russian Federation.
Brake system
At the front, the machine works with an independent design with McPherson struts, and at the rear with a semi-independent torsion beam. The braking system featured disc brakes, which are also ventilated at the front. At the rear, 8-inch drum brakes were installed. The parking brake is a standard mechanical drive.
Thanks to the retuned rack and pinion steering, it now provides improved handling at high speeds and comes with tuned hydraulic power steering. True, it will not be included in the standard configuration, but you can buy it in addition, paying about 13,000 rubles.
The basic configuration will have a high-strength steel body with front programmable deformation zones, an AirBag for the driver, ISOFIX child seat anchorages and 3-point seat belts for the front and rear seats. ABS service will be available in the middle trim level.
Dimensions
If we take the first series, the updated Renault Logan 2nd generation has not changed. The length of the car is 4,348 mm, the width is 1,733 mm, the height is 1,517 mm, and the wheelbase is 2,634 mm. The ground clearance is 175 mm, which is very good considering the quality of our roads.
Now the question of going on vacation or to a summer cottage in a Renault Logan simply disappears; it can drive almost anywhere, and its good capacity will allow you to take everything you need with you.
The curb weight of a budget sedan ranges from 1,106 to 1,127 kg, depending on what equipment is installed. Specifications

Safety
The Renault Logan sedan of the new family comes with new security systems that have not been offered before. This sedan included the debut ESP system, which helps maintain vehicle stability when cornering with poor grip and during sharp maneuvering, as well as on slippery surfaces. At the same time, there is an ABS system, which can be activated together with the emergency braking system. It is activated in certain situations.
It is also interesting that daytime running lighting is turned on on the sedan when the engine is automatically started. Renault Logan 2nd generation has acquired two front airbags and side airbags for the driver and the front passenger sitting next to him. The driver will always know that the seat belt is unfastened, because a certain warning applies.
The designers designed the front mounted front bumper and hood to absorb collision energy during an accident, which will increase auxiliary protection if you are involved in an accident.
Passive safety includes the presence of:

- ISOFIX fastening systems on the rear outboard seats;

Design features and specifications of the internal combustion engine
Engine design K7J (manufacturer Automobile Dacia, Romania) 1.4 l/75 hp. inherited from fairly old Renault Corporation engines developed in the 80s (ExJ series) and therefore looks somewhat archaic: there is an unusual chain drive for the oil pump, used on units with lower camshafts, and ancient timing rocker arms.
The remaining solutions of the 1.4 engine are standard and no different from other four-stroke 4-cylinder single-shaft SOHC engines: in-line vertical cylinder arrangement, 2 valves per cylinder, timing belt drive, liquid cooling and a combined lubrication system (lubricant is supplied to the most loaded parts of the internal combustion engine under pressure, to all others - by simple spraying). K7J has more than 400 thousand kilometers. The 1.4 engine provides the car with the following dynamics: the maximum speed is 162 km/h, reaching a hundred in 13 seconds .
Options and prices
There are four equipment variations in total: Access, Confort, Privilege and Luxe Privilege. The basic Access MT package, with a 16-liter engine producing 82 horsepower and synchronized with a manual 5-speed gearbox, will cost from 469,000 rubles. The standard equipment only includes 15-inch steel wheels, a power unit crankcase guard, a fabric interior, daytime running lights, manually adjustable side mirrors, an airbag for the driver and a full-size spare wheel.
The Confort package starts at 539,990 rubles with the same engine and the same gearbox. This configuration, in addition to everything already mentioned, includes front electric windows, chrome trim on the instrument panel, hydraulic power steering, luggage compartment lighting, height-adjustable steering column, central locking and ABS+ EBD system.
The Privilege package already has a 102-horsepower engine and can be equipped with a robotic gearbox.
The cost of this version starts from 601,990 rubles. The top-end Luxe Privilege package also has a top-end power unit, the ability to install an automatic gearbox, a 7-inch screen, and the highest possible level of comfort. Body and interior
The body of the model is simple, it has many straight lines. Minimum luxury, maximum practicality - this was the first generation Logan, both inside and out.
In general, the body parts and fillings are designed according to the principle that they are not very technologically advanced, but simple and reliable. Thus, the exhaust system is a single element, the fuel tank sports an additional removable filter, and mirrors and moldings can be mounted equally on both the left and the right - very convenient, you must agree.
There are several configurations available. The basic version includes airback for the driver, 14-inch wheels, and black bumpers. Further, depending on the package, central locking, tinted windows, power steering, seat adjustments, front power accessories, air conditioning, disc brakes, two airbags, ABS + EBD systems, and R15 wheels are added.
The front panel, despite the modest materials, looks quite attractive: polished aluminum as a finish, large buttons and switches. The three-spoke steering wheel, borrowed from the Clio, feels good in the hands. The rest of the interior is simple: gray plastic, fabric upholstery, controls on the steering column switches and the center console.
Disadvantages include the inability to adjust the steering column and minimal adjustments to the driver's seat. Owners also note the lack of normal lateral support for the seats, which is why you quickly get tired on long trips.
Due to the desire to save money, the sound insulation in Logan cannot be called good.
But the Logan’s interior is one of the class leaders in terms of spaciousness. The rear seat comfortably accommodates three passengers, with enough space for both legs and head. The owners are also pleased with the spacious trunk - a whopping 510 liters. volume! The downside is that the rear seats cannot be converted.
In 2008, the model was restyled.
The exterior has especially changed. The car has become more modern, the body has become streamlined and elegant. New radiator grille, updated optics and bumpers. The side mirrors were enlarged, improving visibility. New alloy wheels, a different color scheme - and the new Logan has become almost candy.
The interior has also changed. The upholstery materials and plastic parts have become of higher quality, the doors are equipped with comfortable handles instead of the strange solution with a recess in the door itself, and the dashboard has received an updated design. The modified steering wheel was covered with leather.
After restyling, the range of modifications expanded - commercial versions of Van and Pick-Up were added to the MCV sedan and station wagon. And the Sandero and Sandero Stepway hatches were also created on the basis of Logan (although the manufacturer insists that these are separate models).
The difference in configurations still concerned the options: the presence of foglights, alloys, air conditioning, heated seats, ABS and a second frontal airback.
As for rust, the manufacturer subjected the Logan body to anti-corrosion treatment. 70% of the panels were galvanized, and already at the base Logan was given metal protection for the engine oil pan, fuel and brake lines.
The weak point of the pre-restyling versions is considered to be a leaky weld seam connecting the rear arches. As a result, water and dirt easily entered the trunk, causing corrosion.
After restyling in 2008, the problem was eliminated.
Advantages and disadvantages

Cons of the car

- Budget quality of materials used in interior decoration;
- Most options are only available with an additional purchase.
Front and rear suspension life
Without repairing the chassis, Renault Logan-1 can easily travel 100 thousand km or more, of course, during normal operation.
The MacPherson front suspension is characterized by a simple design, a classic “twisting” beam is installed at the rear, and in general the chassis is not much different from the well-known VAZ “eights” and “nines”.
Suspension parts that can easily “live” more than a hundred thousand kilometers are:
- shock absorbers;
- silent blocks of the rear beam;
- steering tips;
- ball joints.
Stabilizer links and struts last less, but also for quite a long time, approximately 60 thousand km; wheel bearings have the same service life.
Let's sum it up
In the end, I would like to say that the update only benefited Renault Logan. It is clear that the car could not be radically updated externally and internally, but do not forget about the fact in which price category this sedan is presented. I was pleasantly pleased with the new appearance, which became smoother, more rounded and modern. Streamlining has increased, which inevitably affects fuel consumption. The stampings on the hood and on the side of the French-Romanian-made car only add a certain charm.
The considerable ground clearance will allow you to feel confident on the roads of the Russian Federation. Everything inside was also freshened. Despite the use of budget materials, the quality of the interior has noticeably increased, and with it all the fits and gaps. A pleasant instrument panel and a convenient 7-inch display appeared. There is plenty of free space in the sedan and this also applies to the rear row of seats. Tall passengers will find it quite comfortable to be in the car.
The luggage compartment is one of the best in its class, the volume of which can be increased if necessary by folding the rear seatbacks. There is security, but minimal. The power units that will be supplied to the Russian Federation do not have special capacities, but are capable of coping with their direct responsibilities. It’s nice that you still have a choice of a pair of engines and 3 gearboxes.
There are also 4 trim levels and many modifications that can satisfy almost every driver. It’s also nice to have all kinds of drawers and compartments for various small things. You can turn a blind eye to all other shortcomings, given the price of the car.
