Criterias of choice

When purchasing a filter element, you need to know which type should fit your engine. To be sure of the correct choice of filter, you must use a special reference book of tolerances and standards that this part must have.

For Renault Logan, we recommend using original oil filters as the key to a high-quality, reliable solution for the engine. There are frequent cases of using low-quality filter components, which led to negative consequences, namely costly repairs of all parts of the engine.

This design is necessary to reduce resistance when using the engine in the cold season. Non-original oil filters use a different design solution that prevents the free passage of oil through this element, which in turn depletes the engine's lubrication effect.

In other words, the use of low-quality parts will lead to oil starvation of the engine, and this contributes to extremely rapid wear and overheating of the cylinders. 1.4 engines especially suffer from this disease.

Selection of oils

Now to the question of what kind of oil to pour into the engine of the French Renault Logan car. According to the recommendations of the automaker itself, oil produced by Elf is optimally suited for their cars. They work closely together, which is why only this liquid is indicated in the instruction manuals. As the French automakers themselves say, this oil for Renault Logan ensures optimal performance, effectively lubricates all rubbing parts and prevents premature engine wear.

How to unscrew the oil filter yourself if it does not unscrew.
There was a lot of thought about whether to go to the dealer or not. I decided to do it myself. I ordered an air, cabin and oil filter from EMEX, as well as Shell Helix Ultra 5W-30 oil. I drove the car onto an overpass, removed the crankcase protection (4 bolts), unscrewed the drain plug, and drained the oil. Next I wanted to unscrew the oil filter, but it didn’t fit. Of course, there’s very little space there. I tried it with a belt with my father together, no way. The filter was already dented. Of course, you need a special cup key, but I didn’t think that the dealer was delaying it so much. Someone breaks through with a screwdriver and turns it away. I drilled two holes with a screwdriver, then took a piece of pipe, drilled a hole in it and welded two bolts to it, just to get into these two holes in the filter. I put the structure on the filter, took the assembly and began to unscrew it, and I will say that I barely unscrewed it, the filter began to bend. So I decided to buy a special key cup for the future, just in case, although I tightened the filter myself by hand. So, guys, advice to everyone if If you want to change the oil yourself, buy this 82mm 15-sided wrench (HYUNDAI, KIA) JTC cup.

How to replace the oil filter in Renault Logan?

Changing the oil filter usually takes place during an oil change, so in this article we will describe these two processes simultaneously. The work itself is simple and accessible to any car enthusiast, but, along with a set of the most common tools, you may need a Renault Logan oil filter puller. During operation, it tightens tightly and simply unscrewing it by hand can be quite difficult.

According to the manufacturer's recommendations, changing the oil and filter for Renault Logan is recommended every 15 thousand kilometers if the car is operated under normal conditions. If the vehicle is used in difficult conditions, which include dusty dirt roads and polluted highways in megacities, then it is better to reduce this period by half. For the Renault Logan car, the recommended oil is ELF Evolution SXR with a viscosity of 5w30.

Important! If you constantly fill in oil with a higher viscosity, this can lead to a decrease in the life of the power unit due to increased friction in the pairs. This will especially manifest itself during startup due to rupture of the oil film, which in the future can lead to scuffing of the liners.

Changing the engine oil and oil filter Renault Logan

KpaHik Blog How to choose an oil filter for a car

We change the engine oil in accordance with the maintenance regulations. We carry out the replacement with the warm engine not running, preferably immediately after the trip, before the oil has cooled down.

Use oils recommended by the manufacturer. Remove the oil filler cap. From the bottom of the car, we clean the oil pan from dirt around the drain plug.

Use an 8-square to loosen the drain plug. You can use a “9” square ground with emery, which is used for the oil pan plug of the UZAM-3317 engine on the Moskvich-2141 car. We place a wide container for draining used oil with a volume of at least 4 liters and, unscrewing the plug manually, drain the oil.

Be careful - the oil is hot. A steel washer is installed under the plug.

To prevent oil leakage from the oil pan, a thin layer of rubber is vulcanized along the surface of the washer hole.

Let's examine the puck. If the rubber seal is damaged, replace the washer with a new one. If you do not have a new standard washer, you can install a copper washer with a hole diameter of 18 mm under the plug. Drain the oil for at least 10 minutes. We wrap and tighten the drain plug. We remove oil leaks from the engine oil pan and the power unit protection. When changing the oil, the oil filter must be replaced. Place a container under the oil filter. Unscrew (counterclockwise) the oil filter.

If this cannot be done manually...

...loosen the filter with a puller.

If there is no puller, we pierce the filter housing with a powerful screwdriver (closer to the bottom, so as not to damage the engine fitting) and unscrew the filter, using the screwdriver as a lever. We clean the filter seat on the cylinder block from dirt and oil drips. Fill the filter with new engine oil to about half its volume and apply engine oil to the filter O-ring. We wrap the oil filter by hand until the sealing ring comes into contact with the cylinder block. Turn the filter another 2/3 of a turn to seal the connection. Pour 3.3 liters of engine oil into the engine through the oil filler neck. Close the oil filler cap. We start the engine for 1–2 minutes. We make sure that the indicator of insufficient (emergency) oil pressure in the engine in the instrument cluster has gone out and there are no leaks from under the drain plug and filter. We stop the engine. After a few minutes (so that the oil has time to drain into the oil pan), we check the oil level and bring it to normal. If necessary, tighten the oil filter and drain plug.

Stages of replacing Renault Logan lubricant

Proper replacement of lubricating fluid includes the stages of draining the used oil and adding fresh oil, while changing the old filter element. If there is a need, then after the draining stage, washing is done.

This car was produced under different model names and under different car brands for sale in different markets. Therefore, all actions will be similar for the following brands:

  • Renault Logan;
  • New Renault Logan 2 (Renault Logan II Restyling);
  • Dacia Logan;
  • Renault Tondar;
  • Nissan Aprio;
  • Mahindra Verito.

Our most popular engines are gasoline engines with a volume of 1.4 and 1.6 liters. The second was produced in versions of 8 and 16 valves. There are also options that are less common in our country, gasoline engines with a volume of 0.9 to 1.2 liters, as well as a 1.5 liter diesel engine.

Draining waste fluid

It is necessary to drain the used engine fluid when the engine is warm. This is due to the fact that heated oil is more liquid. This makes it easier for it to leak out of the thin channels of the lubrication system.

To drain the old engine oil, it is advisable to drive the Renault Logan onto a pit or overpass, since the drainage is done from below. If this is not possible, then you can replace it on any flat surface. There is a technological hole in the engine protection for this purpose. The only thing is to make it easier to reach the drain plug you will have to jack up one side of the car.

Let's consider replacement options on different engines, since it is slightly different. On Logan 1.4 and 1.6, 8 valves are all accessible. But in the 1.6 engine with 16 valves, the operation is a little more complicated, since the oil filter is not installed very conveniently.

Safety precautions when changing oil

When performing work under the car's bottom, do not forget about safety precautions. To do this, be sure to use anti-rollbacks or other available means to prevent the car from spontaneously rolling.

If you lift the front of the car with a jack to change the oil, then place support trestles (posts) under the car.

In this case, pay attention to the stability of the car placed on the posts. This is necessary so that the car does not fall on you and crush you.

Avoid spilling used oil on the ground and dispose of it in specially designated areas. By doing so, you will preserve nature and ensure the cleanliness of the place where the oil change was carried out.

Seal

A special high-quality filter ensures trouble-free and long-lasting operation of the car's engine. When the system requires an oil change, it is recommended to also change the filter element.

The procedure is not complicated if you strictly follow the technical instructions, which are issued together with the purchase and sale agreement. Many car owners during repairs are faced with such a problem as a tightly tightened filter, and in order to remove it they have to seek help from a service station or purchase a special puller. In this article, we will analyze in detail the process of replacing oil filtration, and also determine what its main need is.

Replacement frequency, what oil to fill

According to the manufacturer's regulations, service changes of engine oil for Renault Logan are carried out after 15,000 kilometers or at intervals of 1 year. But some car owners consider this interval to be a little too high, recommending that it be shortened taking into account operating conditions.

According to the passport and the operating instructions, the tolerances that the engine oil must have are given. The manufacturer's recommendation indicates the use of original oil, in this case, for gasoline engines it is Elf Evolution 900 SXR. The most commonly used viscosity is 5W-30 or 5W-40. For updated diesel engines, it is recommended to use Elf Evolution Full-Tech FE 5W-30 oil.

The manufacturer allows the use of analogues, the only thing is that they must be approved by Renault-Nissan: RN0700/RN0710. Among the owners of the model, the following brands were most popular:

  • Castrol GTX 5W-40 A3/B4
  • Eni i-Sint 5W-40
  • Liqui Moly Leichtlauf High Tech 5W-40
  • Mobil Super 3000 x1 5W-40
  • Motul X-cess 8100 5W-40
  • Ravenol VST 5W-40
  • Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40
  • Valvoline SynPower 5W-40
  • ZIC X9 5W-40
  • Lukoil Genesis Armortech 5W-40

How to unscrew it if it's stuck

I’ll tell you a few ways that will 100% help you unscrew this element, so here we go:

Trite with your hands. Often you just don’t have enough strength, just call a “more powerful” person and everything can work out. I will say this in 80% of cases they unscrew it by hand. YES, and you need to tighten it again with your hands, tightly! IT'S ENOUGH!

Special key. I already wrote about it once, you can, of course, it’s not always at hand, but if you have a friend with a car, he can drive to almost any spare parts store and buy it. I personally even saw it in several supermarkets, the cost is a penny, about 200 - 300 rubles. Everything with it is quite easy and simple, we hook it on and unscrew it, of course, the body of the element will get wrinkled, but actually we don’t need it anymore.

Rope and screwdriver (another lever). Sometimes they also use an old alternator or timing belt. What we do is twist a loop around the filter, tighten it with a screwdriver, tightly. And we try to unscrew it. The main thing is that the rope or belt does not slip.

Next come barbaric but effective methods. The most important thing is that they are dirty, that is, you will get dirty in oil anyway, if you are not afraid, then they are for you.

A hammer and a long, strong screwdriver. Actually, this method is used to unscrew most intractable filter elements. Since the walls of the element are soft, they are usually aluminum, or tin, and other soft metals. It breaks through very easily (just like a tin can). What we do is drive a long and strong screwdriver all the way through, that is, so that it goes in on one side and comes out on the other. And then we unscrew it like a lever. The most important thing is that everything can be done without a special key, and actually using those tools that are always in the garage. The only downside is that your hands are dirty, because some of the oil is always inside.

Hammer and chisel. This is generally the method that they say “ATAS”, there is nothing to explain here, we take a chisel and “fuck” it with a hammer, the most important thing is to hit closer to the bottom, to the place of fastening, and counterclockwise. The case, of course, will be all dented, but the most important thing is to unscrew it. The downside here is not only that you can get dirty, but also that you can hit the engine block with a chisel. I personally recommend the method with a screwdriver, it is still less dangerous.

As you can see, there is nothing complicated, you can do without a special key, just pierce the housing with a screwdriver.

Now we are watching a short video.

Changing the lubricant

Now we come to the most interesting part.
Before starting work, you should start the engine and warm it up. This is necessary so that the Renault Duster (Logan, Sandero) oil change is successful and without any surprises.

Tools

The first step is to buy the necessary tools and consumables:

  1. Small container with high sides. It is needed to drain used oil;
  2. Rubberized gloves to avoid damaging the skin;
  3. Special puller for unscrewing filters;
  4. Simple rags;
  5. A set of keys for loosening plugs;
  6. Light source;
  7. Buy a funnel or make it yourself;
  8. The engine oil itself, you can’t go anywhere without it;
  9. Oil filters that will clean the lubricant;
  10. Copper gasket that is placed under the plug.

Instructions

To change the oil in a Renault Logan (Sandero, Duster) car, the first thing you need to do is place it on special supports above the inspection hole; If this is not done, then some problems will arise during operation. One of which is to change the old oil. That is, it will not be very convenient for you to unscrew the drain plug, which is located under the vehicle; Also, do not forget about the special wheel chocks. This is necessary so that the car does not move from its place at an unexpected moment; Additionally, it is necessary to warm up the power unit so that the substance is more fluid. Engine oil volumes may vary depending on external influences

You need to warm up the engine very carefully so as not to burn your hands; Next, you need to open the filler cap to start pouring in engine fluid; Go under the vehicle and find a special plug for draining old oil. It must be thoroughly cleaned in order to engage the square wrench

In some Renault Logan models, there is no need to remove the protection, since it has a hole for access to the neck; Using a square wrench, you need to loosen the plug and unscrew it by hand. After all this, you can substitute the prepared container so that the old oil does not spill onto the floor of the garage or workshop. You should carefully monitor the last turns so that at the right moment you remove your hand and do not contaminate it; While draining the waste, you can begin replacing the pullers and cleaning the filters. The latter is located near the exhaust manifold. If you are unable to find a new puller, you will simply have to unscrew it with your hands and a tool; You need to put a new one in place of the old filter, having first cleaned the landing site. This is necessary in order to remove old Renault Logan oil (Sandero, Duster) and other lubricants. All rubber bands can be lubricated with grease and filled with liquid up to half. You only need to tighten and unscrew the puller by hand and very carefully. The fact is that he is very sensitive to pressure; Next, you can start pouring the lubricant. To do this, you need to thoroughly wipe the neck and mounting flange with a rag, and screw in the drain plug. Don't forget about the rubber ring that is in the cork. The plug must be tightened with a certain force so as not to damage the surface and thread. Now you can fill in the oil itself; It is worth remembering that Renault Logan models have wires located near the filler hole. Before work, they need to be covered with a cloth so as not to get wet and get an electric shock. After all, even with the engine turned off, the battery supplies a small amount of charge; Oil volumes for an eight-valve engine (Logan) vary between 3–3.5 liters; for other models, see the “Oil volume” paragraph. First you need to fill in a large part and check with a dipstick so as not to exceed the maximum mark. If necessary, you can add a little oil. After all this, you can start the power unit and let it run for 20 seconds. This will be enough for the oil to warm up and lubricate all engine mechanisms.

And in conclusion, I would like to say that changing the lubricant is not very difficult. Any driver can do this.

Replacement instructions

Changing the oil on a Renault Logan yourself does not require any special skills or any knowledge. Try to act carefully, consistently and do not forget about safety measures. First, we note that the replacement procedure on 8-valve 1.4 and 1.6-liter engines is slightly different from the 16-valve engine, so we will consider it separately. Let's start with 8-valve engines.

  1. To work, it is better to park the car in a pit. Some people make do with a jack, but this is dangerous and inconvenient. Having placed the car over the pit, place chocks under the wheels and turn on the handbrake on your Logan. It is better to remove the negative terminal from the battery, since there is a high voltage wire near the filler hole.
  2. To make the lubricant flow out faster, increase the fluid fluidity level by warming up the engine a little. This will make the oil change more intensive, plus you will be able to get rid of the maximum amount of old lubricant in the engine. Do not overheat the engine, otherwise hot oil will end up on your skin when drained, causing serious burns. Up to 50 degrees is enough.
  3. Unscrew the plug for filling in fresh oil to eliminate vacuum when draining old lubricant.
  4. He finds a drain plug under the car.

    The cork is unscrewed with a 4-sided tool, the holes for which are usually dirty. Therefore, clean them and insert the key. An important feature of these motors is that it is not necessary to remove the engine protection to drain the liquid. There is a special hole for easy access to the neck.

  5. Carefully loosen the plug and turn it 2–3 turns. Now we substitute an empty container for drainage and unscrew the plug completely. Be careful not to let the oil spill on you. This is why rubber protective gloves are needed.
  6. While the grease is flowing out, take the oil puller and remove the old filter. It is located in the front part near the exhaust manifold. Clean the filter seat and remove the old gasket. Before installing, lightly lubricate the rubber ring on the new filter with oil. Fill 50% of its volume with fresh lubricant inside the filter itself. Insert it into place and screw it on.

    You can tighten it with a puller, but do not apply too much force, otherwise you will break it.

  7. When the oil is drained, wipe everything with a rag, be sure to change the copper ring on the plug and screw it into place. Here, too, medium tightening efforts are needed.
  8. We begin to fill in fresh engine lubricant. 8-valve engines of 1.4 and 1.6 liters. First add only 3 liters.

    We add everything else, following the marks on your dipstick. When it shows the level halfway between o and "Max", close the cap and warm up the engine for 20 seconds. The oil lamp on the instrument panel should go out. 10 minutes after turning off the engine, take the dipstick again and check the level. If necessary, add a little oil.

The procedure is simple, but requires your attention and compliance with safety rules. Replacement is carried out literally in 1 hour.

16 valve engine

The first distinctive feature is the volume of oil being poured, which in this case is 4.5 liters. There are 2 nuances that should be taken into account.

  1. Removing the filter through the hood. To do this, you can remove the cover of the Logan exhaust manifold. This will open access to the filter element. Then everything is the same as in the previous replacement option.
  2. Protection. To drain the waste, you will first have to remove the engine protection. Next, you have access to the drain hole and oil filter.

The differences are minor, but I can play a certain role in the process of changing engine oil. Therefore, start from the features of your Renault Logan, follow the instructions and remember about safety issues when working with the car.

Phased replacement

There is nothing complicated about changing this element. If you are changing the oil filter for the first time, then the main thing is to follow all the steps described in this manual.

According to Hyundai recommendations, engine fluid should be changed at least every 20 thousand kilometers.

Vehicle Hyundai Solaris

Of course, this figure may be underestimated if:

  • you are using low-quality fuel;
  • do you prefer extreme driving mode (as they say, press the gas to full);
  • you are using low-quality motor fluid.

In this case, it makes sense to change the engine fluid at least once every 10 thousand kilometers.

What will you need?

To make the process of changing consumables more efficient, prepare all the tools that may be required:

  • directly the “consumable” itself;
  • oil filter for your Hyundai Solaris;
  • spanners;
  • unnecessary container for collecting spent MM;
  • cleaning rags;
  • device for removing the oil filter.

The request returned an empty result.

It is advisable to change the MM together with the filter after using the car, while the engine has not yet completely cooled down and the consumable material is at its most fluid. If the car has been standing for a long time, the engine, one way or another, should be warmed up, otherwise all the MM will not be able to drain from the internal combustion engine. As for the choice of MM itself, it should be stopped at the original manufacturer. If you decide to change the brand of consumables, then the motor needs to be washed.

Sorry, there are no surveys available at this time.

So, let's start replacing the filter and fluid.

  1. Open the hood and locate the oil filler cap. Unscrew it.
  2. Next, crawl under the bottom of the car and find the drain hole in the engine oil pan. Clean it with a rag or brush, then use a suitable wrench to unscrew the plug. Before doing this, do not forget to place an old container in which you will collect the waste liquid. Be careful: the liquid is too hot, so don't burn your hands. Wait about 40 minutes until the oil has completely drained from the system. You also need to check the condition of the sealing ring of the drain hole: if damage can be seen on it, then it is better to replace it.
  3. When the fluid has completely left the internal combustion engine, you need to close the drain cap. Next, find where the oil filter is installed and place a container under it. Remove it by rotating it counterclockwise. If you cannot do this by hand, then use a pre-prepared wrench to remove the filter component. If you don’t have such a key, then simply pierce the filter housing with a screwdriver and unscrew it, using the screwdriver as a lever.
  4. Take rags and thoroughly wipe the area where the filter is installed. Take a new filter element and fill it one-third full with clean engine fluid. Also lubricate its O-ring. Reinstall the component by tightening it clockwise. It is not necessary to use tools for this.
  5. Now you need to fill in new engine fluid. Fill it until the consumable level rises to the MIN or MAX mark.
  6. Start the engine and let it run for about 5-10 minutes. At this time, check if there are any oil leaks under the bottom of the car. After 10 minutes, turn off the engine and check the oil level with the dipstick again. If everything is normal, then the replacement procedure can be considered complete. If necessary, you need to add enough consumables so that its level is below the MAX mark.

The request returned an empty result.>Video from Roman Smirnov “Replacing MM in Hyundai Solaris”

This video shows the process of replacing the MM in a Hyundai Solaris car.

Let's move on to the oil change process

When starting to replace engine fluid in a Renault Logan engine, remember that all work must be done on a “hot” engine (warmed up to operating temperature). Therefore, be extremely careful not to get burned by hot mining. You can put special rubberized gloves on your hands.

When everything is ready and the instructions have been completed, you can proceed:

  • We drive the car with a preheated engine into place to change the oil;
  • Open the hood and first of all, unscrew the filler cap;
  • We place it under the drain hole so as not to spill the waste;
  • We move under the car and unscrew the drain plug using a “square” wrench specially prepared for this purpose, drain the waste liquid (wait 15 - 20 minutes);
  • Having drained all the old engine fluid, return the drain plug to its place, tightening it tightly, not forgetting to install a new gasket;
  • Next, use a special puller to unscrew the oil filter counterclockwise;
  • Then, having unscrewed the old oil filter, lubricate the sealing ring with new oil, tighten it, and tighten it tightly;

When all procedures are completed, you can fill in new engine oil.

It is also worth noting that you need to take into account the engine size. Renault Logan cars are equipped with 1.4 and 1.6 engines. Depending on the engine size, the volume of liquid to be filled depends. Having finished changing the oil, let's now move into the car interior and start the engine. The oil icon should go out within 10 - 20 seconds. When we are sure that it has gone out, we can move under the car again and check whether we have tightened everything there tightly.

Along with the engine oil, I recommend that you replace such “consumables” as:

  • Air filter - it needs to be changed at intervals similar to the interval between engine fluid changes, so it is recommended to change them at the same time. And the engine will work noticeably better;
  • Spark plugs - they can be changed after one oil change, since carbon deposits on spark plugs on a working engine appear after approximately 20 - 30 thousand kilometers;
  • Fuel filter – the quality and richness of the fuel mixture directly depends on it, so do not forget to change it and check the quality of this very mixture;
  • Cabin filter – no one probably wants to breathe in the microbes that are actively accumulating in the cabin filter, and that is why you should definitely replace it. At least once a season;

Replacement frequency

First, let's determine whether the car is new or not. For new cars that have only recently been purchased from a dealership with zero mileage, the manufacturer’s recommendation applies to the need to change the lubricant in the engine after 3 thousand kilometers. During this time, the car goes through a break-in period. If the Renault Logan has already been run-in, then proceed from the type of your engine. We have these cars available with two engines:

They have their own distinctive features not only in the type of fuel used, but also in the requirements for changing the oil. How often you will have to change old oil to new oil in a Renault Logan engine depends on the engine itself.

Now let's explain how a diesel power unit differs from a gasoline one.

  1. For gasoline engines, the recommended replacement frequency is 15 thousand kilometers. If you do not roll this distance during the year, then replace it once a year.
  2. In a Renault Logan diesel engine, the oil must be changed after about 10 thousand kilometers. But, as in the case of a gasoline engine, replacement is carried out once a year if the required mileage has not been completed.

Understanding how many kilometers it is necessary to replace the lubricant in the engine, it will be easier for you to care for it, keep it in optimal condition and ensure efficient operation.

Changing the oil and oil filter for Logan Sandero, 1.6 16V Logan Sandero 1.6 16V

In accordance with the maintenance regulations, we change the oil every 15 thousand km.

We carry out the work on an inspection ditch or overpass.

We remove the protection of the power unit. We carry out the replacement with the warm engine not running, preferably immediately after the trip, before the oil has cooled down. Remove the oil filler cap. From the bottom of the car, we clean the oil pan from dirt around the drain plug.

Use a 8-point square to loosen the drain plug (pictured in the center)

We substitute a wide container for draining used oil with a volume of at least 5 liters. Unscrew the plug by hand and drain the oil. Be careful - the oil is hot. A steel washer is installed under the plug. To prevent oil leakage from the oil pan, a thin layer of rubber is vulcanized along the surface of the washer hole. Let's examine the puck. If its rubber seal is damaged, replace the washer with a new one. If a standard part is not available, you can install a copper washer with a hole diameter of 18 mm under the plug. Drain the oil for at least ten minutes. We wrap and tighten the drain plug. We remove oil leaks from the engine oil pan. When changing the oil, the oil filter must be replaced.

Unscrew the oil filter by rotating it counterclockwise

If this cannot be done manually, loosen the filter with a puller. If there is no puller, we pierce the filter housing with a powerful screwdriver (closer to the bottom of the filter, so as not to damage the motor fitting) and unscrew the filter, using the screwdriver as a lever.

We clean the filter seat on the cylinder block from dirt and oil drips. Apply engine oil to the filter sealing ring and screw the filter in by hand until the sealing ring touches the cylinder block. Turn the filter another 2/3 of a turn to seal the connection. Pour 4.75 liters of engine oil into the engine through the oil filler neck. Close the oil filler cap. We start the engine for 1–2 minutes. We make sure that the indicator of insufficient (emergency) oil pressure in the engine has gone off in the instrument cluster and that there are no oil leaks from under the drain plug and filter.

We stop the engine. After a few minutes (so that the oil has time to drain into the oil pan), we check the oil level and bring it to normal. If necessary, tighten the oil filter and drain plug.

Oil filter puller. How to do it yourself.

Using the Renault Logan car as an example, it is shown how to make a simple and convenient puller for unscrewing the oil filter in a hard-to-reach place, as well as the procedure for changing the oil.

On a Renault Logan , the oil filter is located on the front of the engine in a recess, opposite which the generator is located.

You can, of course, do it in a simple way: pierce the filter on the side with a screwdriver and unscrew it. For example, as shown in the photo below. But the engine will be flooded with oil, which not everyone likes.

You can use an oil filter puller from older car models that have fairly easy access to the filter. But to do this, in this car model you will have to remove the protective cover of the exhaust manifolds.

By the way, in order to unscrew the nuts holding the casing on a warm engine, it is advisable to cool them a little with a wet cloth. It will come off much easier.

You can purchase an oil filter puller of a suitable design, but this is also not always possible. One option looks like this:

There is naturally one puller in the package, it’s just shown on both sides. Yes, and also, there is a mistake on the packaging, its diameter is not 46 mm but 76 mm. This has been mentioned on many forums. Such a puller is strictly tied to the size and design of the filter, and if they differ slightly, the puller will not work.

A universal puller for filters with a diameter of 62 to 102 mm can be purchased here at a very reasonable price. It looks like this:

After looking on the Internet for various options for homemade oil filter pullers , I came up with the idea of making my own design. It does not require scarce materials and is quite simple to manufacture. You will need a metal strip with a width of 20 to 50 mm, a length of about 250 mm and a thickness of about 1 mm. The edges of the strip need to be bent and two handles made of a rod about 10 mm in diameter and 20 mm long must be welded at an angle. If there is no welding, you can attach the handles with screws, having first made slits in the rods with a hacksaw or slightly flatten them with a hammer on the edges that will be attached to the strip. That's all. In order to eliminate slipping along the filter body, the strip should be wrapped with rubber, for example, from an old camera. The finished puller looks like this:

Put it on the filter like this:

It is very convenient to use. The filter does not turn or get scratched. Here's what it looks like in action.

Well, since the article touches on the topic of changing the oil , I will provide information for those who themselves decided to change the oil for the first time on a Renault Logan K7M engine.

  1. Drain the oil from a warm engine.
  2. Drain plug at the bottom. There is a hole in the pan; there is no need to remove the pan. Unscrew the plug with an 8mm square. It's very tight. The 8mm square must be strong, otherwise it will twist. Unscrew counterclockwise. It is convenient to drain the oil into an old oil canister with a large hole cut in the side. Canister on the side. Then it is convenient to drain the used oil from this canister into a barrel by unscrewing the cap of its neck.
  3. Next, unscrew the filler cap from the top and allow the oil to completely drain out.
  4. After draining the oil, place a rag under the oil filter and use a puller to unscrew it by hand. A rag under the filter will prevent oil from spilling onto the engine. At the service station they changed it so that the belts were covered in oil. This happens later when spilled oil is sprayed out by the air flow when the fan moves and operates.
  5. Screw on the drain plug and tighten it well.
  6. Pour oil into the oil filter, lubricate the rubber filter gasket with the same oil and quickly screw it into place. Tighten by hand, but fine. If it slips, tighten it with a puller, but be careful not to overtighten. Some experts recommend only lubricating the rubber filter gasket, but not pouring oil into the filter.
  7. Pour 3 liters of oil into the filler neck. Let it sit for a few minutes and check the level with a dipstick. The machine must be on a flat, horizontal platform. The oil level on the dipstick is slightly above the middle between the marks. Do not fill above the upper mark; it may push through the seals. If you have overfilled it, you can remove the excess through the oil dipstick hole with a large syringe with a long tube tightly placed on the syringe instead of a needle.

Changing the oil in the Renault Logan 2 engine

Changing the engine oil is a process that, according to the manufacturer of Renault Logan 2, should be done once every 15,000 km. If the annual mileage is less, then new working fluid is added to the engine once a year. Simultaneously with replacing the engine oil, other elements are also replaced - the oil filter (required) and the drain bolt washers (depending on their condition). The catalog number of the original washer is 110265505R.

The Renault Logan 2 manufacturing plant fills various engines with Elf Excellium LDX 5W40 oil. In the future, when replacing, the following engine oils are recommended:

  • For engines with eight valves, Elf Evolution SXR oil with a viscosity grade of 5W30 is suitable. The required volume of lubricant for replacement is 3.3 liters.
  • For 16V (K4M) engines, Elf Evolution SXR is used, with a viscosity grade of 5W40. Here it is advisable to prepare 4.8 liters of working fluid.

If you choose an alternative option, you should pay attention to motor oils that comply with the following API classes - SL, SN and SM, as well as ACEA A5 and A3. When determining the appropriate lubricant viscosity for your engine, you must base it on the temperature that prevails in your region:

When determining the appropriate lubricant viscosity for your engine, you must base it on the temperature that prevails in your region:

  • At temperatures of 30 degrees below zero and above, it is recommended to use SAE 0W30 or 0W40 oil.
  • If the thermometer in winter does not fall below 25 degrees below zero, then compositions with the following SAE viscosity are suitable - 5W30, 5W50 and 5W40.
  • For regions where winter does not get colder than 20 degrees below zero, motor oils with the following SAE viscosity are suitable - 10W30, 10W50 and 10W40

Car owners often prefer Excellium NF 5W40 oils, but when choosing this brand, changing the oil to a composition with a W30 viscosity is prohibited. The reason is that a lubricant with a higher viscosity cokes more.

Renault Logan oil change - alternative suppliers

As you know, the brand on the packaging of technical fluid is not the most important selection criterion. The main thing is to comply with the viscosity requirements (in our case SAE 5W-30 or SAE 5W-40) and the ACEA specification for European manufacturers.

  • for all types of Renault Logan engines, an ACEA class of at least A3/B3 is required (regardless of diesel or gasoline power unit);
  • power plants operating on liquefied gas (the French manufacturer also produces these) are filled with A5/B5 oil.

Of course, we don’t forget about the company’s factory approval. The cars in question require a Renault-Nissan RN 0700/RN 0710 certificate.

List of oils suitable for replacement:

ZIC X9 5W-30(40) pure synthetics, produced for European cars;

LIQUI MOLY Top Tec 4 100 5W-40, according to manufacturers, allows you to maintain a service interval of up to 30,000 km;

Mannol Elite 5W-40 has an “advanced” European approval ACEA A3/B4;

LUKOIL GENESIS ARMORTECH 5W-40 is an inexpensive alternative to imports, the quality is confirmed by international quality specifications.

A little secret that French marketers hide:

Few people know that the Elf trademark belongs to the powerful Total concern. For marketing reasons, the products are divided into several brands, the most famous being Total and Elf. Since all motor oils are bottled in different cans at the same factories, you can buy the same consumables at different prices.

  • Elf Evolution 700 = Total Quartz 7000 Energy;
  • Elf Evolution 900 = Total Quartz 9000 Energy.

They even have the same canisters, only the plastic is a different color. Using the comparative tables of specifications and tolerances, you can easily select an analogue. Don’t let the difference in price bother you, the contents in the container are absolutely the same.

It is more difficult to find suitable oil among North American manufacturers; apparently they are not so interested in the European market. Nevertheless, changing the oil in a Logan engine will not cause problems with the selection of consumables. Of course, along with the lubricants, the filter element should also be replaced.
