In this article we will learn how to replace a VAZ 2110 hydraulic hose or other power steering repairs.

Replacing hoses and oil

Power steering hoses are an important part of it. Therefore, they need an eye and an eye. But what if they still need to be replaced? Should you take your car to a service station? Of course, there is no need, because you can do all this yourself. Usually, hoses are replaced simultaneously with the power steering oil change. And it would be opportune to present joint instructions.

Begin:

  • First you need to lift both front wheels of the car (they should be in the air);
  • We find the power steering reservoir from which the oil should be pumped out;

Note. You can pump out oil from the power steering reservoir using a larger glass syringe, which also has an extension in the form of a tube.

  • Pump out the oil;
  • Turn the steering wheel all the way in any direction (after this oil will appear in the tank again, which needs to be pumped out again);

  • Now turn the steering wheel in the other direction and pump out the oil again;
  • We remove the hose, which is the oil conductor (through it, the oil comes from the passenger compartment and enters the tank);
  • Turn the steering wheel from side to side (oil should come out again);

Replacing power steering oil

  • We take new power steering oil (usually about 800 ml);
  • Fill it into the tank to the maximum level;
  • Again, turn the steering wheel from side to side (all the way);

Note. When the steering wheel is rotated, the oil will flow out. You will need to constantly refill it.

  • We start the engine for a few seconds, turn it off;
  • We turn the steering wheel again;
  • Add oil;
  • We pump and remove air from the system by turning the steering wheel with the car turned off ten times in each direction (we do the same number of times with the engine running).

When changing the oil, be sure to look at all hoses and pipes. If oil is leaking, this is a sign of a torn or faulty hose that will need to be replaced. Hoses are replaced only after the oil has been completely pumped out. You will need to unscrew the clamps and remove the hoses from the pump. As for installation, new hoses and pipes should be tightened with clamps and not overdo it (hoses easily burst, if anything happens).

Note. Installing new hoses can be difficult, since the location of the power steering itself is inconvenient.

Let's start installing the EUR on the VAZ 2110

We take the standard terminal out of the block and transfer it to the block, which is located on the harness. Then we install the free terminal coming from the harness in the place where the standard wire attached to the block was powered. Now the standard wire will go through the harnesses. The wire from the blocks is rated at 50A.

Carefully separate the steering shaft housing, ignition switch and switches. We unscrew the bolt holding the steering rack, and then remove the rack itself.

If necessary, we adjust the plate. We measure the length of the shafts.

We install the amplifier in a new place. The shaft is slightly smaller than it should be, but still does not fit on the rack. You will have to adjust it to the required size. The stock shaft is a hollow form, therefore, it is necessary to remake the plate and shaft from the Priora.

The shaft from the Priora was changed. We drill the plate (necessary for installation) more deeply. We install the amplifier and check what happens. We clamp everything tightly with the smaller bolt.

We install the switches in the right place and begin to work with the wiring. It is necessary to run 2 wires from the passenger compartment to the battery.

We remove the flush tank, take a wire and attach 2 wires to it. We hook them to the opposite end of the wire and pull them through. We remove it, take out the red block, stretch the wiring into the under-panel space and remove the orange wire from the red block. We attach the block that came with the wires to it, connect it to the electric power steering wiring, and pull the end with the bare terminal of the electric power steering wiring into place of the standard one (into the red block).

We carry out exactly the same actions with the gray wire of the red block.

We move to the battery and attach the black wire to MINUS and the pink wire to PLUS.

Then we connect the EUR wiring. Let's launch it, you can spin it.

Ready! All that remains is to put everything in its place. We collect all the switches, put in place the casing that hides the steering shaft.

The pump of this mechanism deserves a separate discussion. It costs about 3 thousand Russian rubles and is often repaired rather than replaced. But if repairs don’t help, you’ll have to spend money. As for high-quality repairs, you can again do it yourself, thereby saving your money.

VAZ 2110 has a hydraulic booster on the car

Typically, a ZF brand pump is installed on the VAZ 2110 power steering, which is also used on the Audi A6, Volkswagen and other cars. But this pump model is not dismountable and there are no retaining rings or covers on it. This does not mean that it is impossible to restore the operation of such a pump. Below are instructions for removing and disassembling the power steering pump:

  • Remove the clamp;
  • Disconnect the return hose (do it carefully so as not to spill oil);
  • Disconnect the connector;
  • Remove the DJ (sensor) from the fitting bolt.

Note. It is under no circumstances recommended to drop this fluid pressure sensor. Otherwise you will have to buy a new one.

  • We disconnect the discharge tube, first removing the union bolt;
  • Remove the power steering drive belt;
  • Now it's time to start removing the pump itself;
  • Loosen the first bolt securing the pump;
  • We completely unscrew the second bolt securing the pump;
  • Remove the pump assembly.

Note. Remember that the first bolt securing the pump cannot be completely removed.

We clean the pump from dirt and visually inspect it. If a development is found on the inner wall of the housing, resembling steps, then they need to be removed using a special nozzle and a drill.

A worn bearing in a sealed housing can also cause power steering failure. The cuff, which needs periodic replacement, is no exception.

Note. There are two ways to secure a new bearing in the pump housing: by making a groove with a lathe or by securing it using the curved edges of the housing.

Let's consider both options:

  • To secure the bearing in the first way, you need to make a groove on a lathe on the outside of the housing. Then we drill threaded holes in the pump wall. The new bearing should be inserted and secured using bolts with sharpened ends, which are also sawn off.
  • The second option involves bending the edges of the body.

We assemble the pump in reverse order. Unlike other pump models, the ZF version has vanes that do not turn over.

Note. To thread the flange onto the shaft, it will need to be heated. Then quickly put it on the shaft and wait until it cools down.

The power steering pump may make noise after installation. But there is no need to be afraid of this, because everything is explained simply: grinding in parts.

Detailed Installation Guide

So, if you decide to install a VAZ 2114, then you need to take into account that you will also have to replace the steering column itself. In particular, instead of a standard device, you will need to install a column with an electric drive; accordingly, our repair process will begin with the wiring. You will need to deal with all the connectors and connectors, because you must do everything beautifully, without any twisting of the wires. The block has a special terminal that you will need to remove and then install it on the connector in the harness.

The free terminal of this connector is installed in the place where the standard wiring ran; no special harnesses or adapters are required for this. You only need to connect two 4 square cables to the battery. To ensure the safety of this section of the electrical circuit, it is additionally necessary to install a 50 ampere safety element.

  • tachometer, used to display the number of revolutions of the engine crankshaft;
  • a speed sensor used to indicate the speed of the vehicle;
  • mass, that is, the car body;
  • diagnostic K-line;

After completing these steps, you will need to diagnose the presence of a tachometer signal, as well as a speedometer.

If there are signals, then the further installation procedure is as follows:

  1. The plastic casing on the steering column, where the switches are installed, as well as the ignition switch, is dismantled. To do this, you need to unscrew all the bolts that secure the protective cover.
  2. Then you need to unscrew the screw installed on the rail and dismantle it. At this point, you will need to determine how much the size of the assembly installed during production differs from the size that will be used.
  3. At the next stage, the shaft is mounted directly on the electric amplifier. After this, the shaft itself must be fixed at the installation site.
  4. The next step is to configure the electrical circuit. It is necessary to run two wires from the vehicle interior to the battery; alternatively, this can be done through the left fender. To do this, you must first dismantle the expansion tank of the washer system, and then, using the hardest and thickest wire, stretch it. You need to try to get to the engine compartment.
  5. When the end of the wire appears in the engine compartment, you need to attach the wiring to it. Next, both wires will need to be pulled out along with the wire itself.
  6. Having completed all these steps, we proceed to one of the main steps - connecting the electric amplifier electronics. Under the dashboard in the “four” there is a special red block, inside of which there is an orange cable. The EUR contact itself must be connected to this wire. The same actions are performed with the gray wire.
  7. Then the power ends are connected. Pink and black wires are connected to the battery, pink to the positive terminal, black to the negative. At this point, the installation process can be considered complete. Check the functionality of the installed system and, if necessary, adjust the device.

Passing technical inspection and certificates

Before installing the ESD on your G7, you should think about passing a technical inspection. The fact is that installing such a device means making changes to the design of the vehicle, which will result in difficulties when passing maintenance in the absence of appropriate certificates. What, does the owner of a VAZ 21103 have a hydraulic booster? As you know, if a VAZ 2110 is equipped with power steering, which, it is worth noting, completely eliminates vibrations typical of front-wheel drive cars, replacing the alternator belt is carried out completely differently than is customary. As a rule, the alternator belt is replaced after 45-60 thousand kilometers, and cracks on it are a direct sign of replacement. A normal replacement of this part takes no more than 10 minutes, but on cars with power steering it takes more time, and the belt cannot be found in its usual place. In this place, if power steering is installed, the pump described above is placed. The generator itself is located higher.

Operating principle of EUR and power steering

Power steering VAZ 2110 is a system consisting of many elements. The power steering pump in this case is driven by the crankshaft - it pumps oil, as a result of which, through pressure, it allows rotation of the steering wheel.

The electric power steering is a modular design that is built into the steering column; the module itself consists of:

  • synchronous type electric motor;
  • torsion bar;
  • several sensors;
  • control module.

We can say that the “seven” is equipped with the simplest type of power steering. It contains several basic elements that make it easier to control the car:

  1. Hydraulic pump mechanism. It is through the cavities of the pump that an uninterrupted supply of working fluid is carried out and the necessary pressure is created.
  2. Steering gearbox with distributor. This device is designed to ensure the passage of air flow. The air directs the oil in two directions: into the cylinder cavity or in the return direction - from the cylinder to the tank containing the working fluid.
  3. Hydraulic cylinder. It is this mechanism that converts oil pressure into movements of the piston and rod, which reduces physical force when applying pressure to the steering wheel.
  4. Working fluid (oil). Oil is necessary for the stable operation of the entire power steering system, since it not only transmits movement from the pump to the hydraulic cylinder, but also simultaneously lubricates all components. Oil is poured into a special container and supplied through high-pressure hoses.

Typical equipment of the VAZ 2107 implies two schemes for the operation of the hydraulic booster: transmission of movement to the steering rack or to the steering shaft.

Installing power steering - step by step instructions

This instruction is intended for VAZ 2110 cars, which do not have power steering at all. Such models were produced a long time ago, but they can still be found on the road today. In this case, the car can be upgraded with your own hands.

You can install the power steering yourself; for this you will need a power steering kit - today it can be purchased for about 20 thousand. From the tools, prepare a set of keys and screwdrivers; you should also take care of the amplifier fluid in advance.

    We dismantle the timing case and install the bracket on three bolts. There are already holes in the interior, so there is no need to drill new ones. Now we install the pin on which the roller will later be installed. There are no holes for it, so we make new ones. Let's put on a video.

Here you can see the fasteners that need to be removed. The photo below shows in detail what needs to be sawed off. After this, securely fix the pump on the bracket and cover it with a pillow. The assembled unit should be placed on the engine, or rather, in the place where the generator was mounted.

You should undertake such work only if you already have experience in servicing the electrical and power plant of the VAZ 2110. Power steering is directly related to safety, so if you lack experience, it is better to turn to the experts.

Stages of work execution

Due to the lack of power steering on the car, many car owners decide to install power steering on the VAZ 2107 with their own hands. Auto mechanics believe that the EUR of a Priora or Niva often fails. In some cases, the steering wheel jams. Such problems are dangerous when the machine is moving. Therefore, it is recommended to give preference to factory electric amplifiers.

In any case, you will need to adjust the gearbox speed sensor. Otherwise, when starting the VAZ and driving at low speeds, the driver will not be able to notice any changes. Thus, it will be difficult to turn the steering wheel. When accelerating at high speed, the steering wheel will yield to the car owner with little resistance.

If there is no speed sensor, you will have to install one. It must have a 6-pulse pass-through from the Niva 214. As a rule, this is included in the factory equipment. Other design changes that will need to be made include:

  • transfer of another choke cable, which is included in the kit for the VAZ 2108 electric booster,
  • replacing the gearbox - you will need to take this unit with a short worm shaft, and the bipod must be original,
  • If the 2107 has a contact ignition system, you will need to install the MUR1100E diode yourself.

The ESD kit for the “Seven” includes the following elements.

  1. Speed ​​sensor.
  2. Fasteners.
  3. Choke cable.
  4. The ignition switch, steering column switches, steering column cover - these parts must be from 2110.
  5. Installation instructions and passport for electric power steering on a VAZ.

VAZ 2107 is the legendary AvtoVAZ model. However, for all its advantages, by modern standards the design clearly lacks advanced elements. For example, power steering - after all, all cars of the latest generation, even in basic configurations, are necessarily equipped with this mechanism.

The electric power steering provides control of the car in the following modes:

  • when turning,
  • turning at low and high speeds,
  • returning the wheels to the middle position and maintaining them in this state.

Installation of an electric power steering on a VAZ 2107 is necessary, since the steering wheel is turned with the help of this device. Due to the torsion bar, torque is transmitted to the steering system. In this case, the twist of the torsion and the angle of rotation of the given wheel are measured. For this, special sensors are used. The received data is transmitted to the ECU. In this way, the operation of the electric motor is maintained in the required mode. Next, the torque is supplied to the steering mechanism and drive wheels.

Turning at low speeds is typical for parking a car. At the same time, the steering wheel rotation angle is large. The electronic control system provides torque by maximizing the work in the electric motor.

When driving at high speed, the EUR provides a minimum level of torque. To return the wheels to the center position, you will need to increase the reaction force generated when turning. To support the wheels in a certain position, the control system independently corrects their direction.
