Today, tuning domestically produced cars has become quite commonplace. Pumped-up VAZs can be seen in almost any area, in every city and region of our country. However, car enthusiasts often limit themselves to installing new body kits. On the one hand, it’s beautiful, but on the other hand, it’s no longer interesting, and it’s simply impossible to stand out from the crowd in this way. But there is a way that will really transform your VAZ without significant technical changes. And it consists in installing such illumination as “angel eyes”. How to install them, read further in our article.
How to make LED angel eyes? Preparing materials and tools
Unfortunately, ready-made kits of such optics for this model are difficult to find in stores, so you have to do everything yourself. In order to make “angel eyes” for the VAZ-2106, we only need a few plastic sticks. Their length should be equal to the size of the optics on the “six”, that is, for work we need to have 4 such sticks, each 40-45 centimeters long.
We will also need 4 for optics (if you are making LED angel eyes). As for the choice of color, it all depends on your imagination. You should purchase 4 new glasses as a reserve (it is very difficult to pick out the old ones intact).
Installing angel eyes
Gluing with silicone tape
To fix the angel eyes on the main headlights, it is better to use instant glue or sealant. The manufactured ring should be fastened around the lens with notches inside the headlight. However, such fastening of angel eyes is possible on Kirzhach headlights, but it will not work for Bosch headlights, because they do not have similar places for fixing the ring. Although, if there is a desire, then opportunities will appear. Any headlight can be equipped with angel eyes, for example, using some additional fasteners.
Let's get started
To bend the sticks, we need some kind of cylindrical container. For cars like the VAZ-2103 and -2106, a coffee tin would be the ideal choice. But before this, the sticks need to be heated over an open fire or in the oven. In the latter case, they are placed on an inverted frying pan lid. After a little heat treatment, the sticks are subject to bending. To do this, we prepare a pair of pliers, a pattern in the form of a jar and a chair. The parts are removed from the oven using the first tool (one is taken by the end, and the other is wrapped around the can).
Now we wait until the plastic cools down. When it hardens, remove the already formed rings from the tin can. We cut off the excess ends of the sticks (they will definitely be visible) using a hacksaw so that we get a perfect circle.
We connect the LEDs and connect the wires
Next, we move on to the most complex and responsible operation - installing LEDs. Holes are drilled at the two ends of the products strictly to the diameter of the purchased light bulbs, and their legs are cut off with a length margin of 5 millimeters. Then the LEDs are soldered parallel to each other. They are connected separately, each wire goes to its own track. It is important not to confuse the polarity, otherwise the entire work will have to be redone. In order not to confuse where the “plus” is and where the “minus”, use multi-colored wires (preferably red and black). The length of each should be approximately 15 centimeters. At this length we cut the wire that leads to the “plus” and solder the resistance here.
Now we buy some (the cheapest possible) transparent nail polish and apply it drop by drop into each hole (there are 2 in total). Before it has time to dry, we insert diodes into the holes. In time, the entire structure should stand in the open air for about 30 minutes.
Why is it better to use this particular varnish?
The fact is that after drilling, the inner surface of the parts will be scratched; accordingly, the plastic does not have normal contact with the diodes. From here we get a bad glow of the rings, which we don’t need at all. The varnish fills all these voids and makes one whole from two elements.
For reliability, it is recommended to make small notches on the rings (but not along the entire circumference). The distance should be at least 10 millimeters, and the depth should be about 0.5 millimeters. That's it, at this stage the “angel eyes” on the VAZ-2106 have been successfully manufactured. Now it remains to do the second part of the work - installing parts into the car's optics.
A little about connection
In general, installation and connection largely depend on the specific vehicle and its design features. But some general and very important points are worth highlighting.
To begin with, elements such as angel eyes act as an additional lighting device as part of the vehicle. Therefore, their presence falls under the requirement for DRLs. As you understand, these are daytime running lights.
And according to the rules, they should be turned on simultaneously with starting the engine, and turned off when stopping. Plus, the DRLs are required to turn off when the headlights turn on. This tells us that the connection of the eyes should be carried out according to the connection diagram for daytime lights.
One of the options involves using 4 female terminals and one five-pin relay. The minus from the eyes goes to the body, and the plus goes to the relay.
Angels are considered an indispensable attribute of the Christmas holidays. The Holy Scripture “Gospel” tells about the angels who appeared to the Virgin Mary with good news. This news was about the imminent birth of her long-awaited son, but not an ordinary one, but the Savior of all mankind.
And at the birth of the son Jesus in the Bethlehem cave, angels appeared to the shepherds and reported about this miracle. This is where the tradition came from: on Christmas, be sure to decorate your homes with beautiful messengers - angels and give them to friends and family.
At the same time, angel crafts made with your own hands are endowed with warmth and heartfelt love, so they are priceless and dear to those to whom you present them.
Installing "angel eyes" on the "six"
First, we will have to completely remove and disassemble the headlights (don’t forget to turn off the power to the car’s on-board power supply before doing this). Next we have to remove the glass surface of the optics. If we cannot do this on the spot, we try to slightly heat the headlight over the same gas stove. Sometimes even after these manipulations it is not possible to remove the glass. In this case, the only way out of the situation is to break this part of the headlight unit. Fortunately, optics for the “six” are not very expensive, so you don’t have to worry about financial expenses. If debris has formed on the reflector, be sure to remove it from there. Here you need to be extremely careful. Remember that under no circumstances should you touch the surface of the reflector with your hands, much less use special alcohol-containing substances, powder, gasoline, etc. for cleaning. We clean the dirt only with a cotton swab or a piece of rag with coarse lint. Otherwise, the illumination range of the headlights will be no more than 5-10 meters.
How does the installation of “angel eyes” proceed? The edges of the glass are treated with sealant. After this, the ring with the diodes facing up is placed in the headlight. In this case, the notches should face the lamp. To be safe, apply silicone sealant to the remaining edges of the glass. Remember that the headlight must be sealed, otherwise it will constantly sweat and become cloudy. We wait 30 minutes for the sealant to harden, then connect the wires. Those that come from the “eyes” must be connected with the old ones that come with the headlight (low beam).
If desired, you can connect in another way. First, we disconnect the plug of the wires that go to the dimensions and turns. We connect the minus of the former with the plus of the latter (that is, two into one). The freed “+” from the dimensions will be used to connect a pair of “angel eyes”. The minus can be attached to the signal mount. In this case, the “angel eyes” will turn on not as low beam, but as dimensions (from the outside it looks very impressive!).
Angel Eyes today
Angel eyes are an element of car tuning that never ceases to please car enthusiasts. If body kits, interior tuning, spoilers in various configurations can become boring and “boring” over time, then alternative optics are a pleasant exception. In the early 2000s, the first cars with this tuning element just began to appear on the roads, and very soon angel eyes began to have more and more fans. The reasons are clear. After all, this is not just a beautiful accessory, they are also an excellent means of ensuring traffic safety.
Conventional optics, especially high beams, although visible on the roads from afar, blind oncoming cars, often creating serious discomfort. This alternative optics copes 100% with all the assigned tasks, but does not cause any discomfort to other drivers. There is another advantage of angel eyes - low electricity consumption.
. All this and, of course, aesthetic characteristics generate huge demand among consumers for this type of tuning.
DIY angel eyes for six
There are many options invented by car enthusiasts for making angel eyes for installation in VAZ 2106 headlights. Let's start with the simplest and most budgetary.
How to make angel eyes with two LEDs
To make this design you will need the following materials:
- 8 any super-bright LEDs with a diameter of 5 mm with radial leads.
- 4 resistors with a resistance of 2 kOhm each and a power of at least 0.25 W.
- 4 round sticks made of transparent organic glass, 50 cm long and 8-10 mm in diameter.
- Sealant.
Expert opinion
Alexey Bartosh
The voltage in the on-board network when the engine is running can reach 14.5 V, which will greatly reduce the service life of the “eye”. That is why it is advisable to include a stabilizer in the circuit that maintains the optimal voltage on the LEDs. For example, the integrated stabilizer KR142EN8B, which costs around 20 rubles, is suitable.
Materials needed to make simple angel eyes
Prepare the following tools:
- A hacksaw or a blade made from it.
- Two pliers.
- A round mandrel with a diameter of 104–110 mm (a 200-gram tin can of instant coffee is ideal).
- Large frying pan or pot of boiling water.
- Hot glue gun.
If everything is ready, then you can start. Dip the stick into boiling water and, as soon as the glass softens, use two pliers to wrap it around a pre-prepared mandrel.
After the stick has cooled, remove it from the mandrel and saw off the ends with a hacksaw so that there is a 5 mm gap between them.
Curved blanks and finished ring for angel eyes
Now we drilled two holes at the ends of the stick with a diameter of 5.5 mm and a depth of 7-8 mm. To install LEDs in these holes, use any transparent nitro varnish - it will not only securely fix the semiconductors, but also make the walls of the holes smoother, and therefore more transparent.
Solder the LEDs in parallel and solder wires of different colors to them: this will make it easier to maintain polarity when connecting the structure to the on-board network.
Find out in advance the polarity of the semiconductor terminals and glue them in so that after installation the terminals of the anodes and cathodes can be easily soldered.
A hole in the end of the tube and an angel eye with installed LEDs.
The final touch remains: shallow (0.5 mm) cuts along the entire length of the ring at intervals of 5-7 mm. If you do all the above operations 4 times, then we can assume that the angel eyes are ready for installation in the headlights.
Creation of cuts and finished angel eyes for VAZ 2106 at work
To do this, the headlights will have to be removed, and the glass on them, wrapped in rags, will be broken - this is easier than tearing off the glass from a durable sealant.
Before you break the windows, don’t forget to look at which ones were for high beam and which were for low beam.
Place the finished angel eyes into new glass with cuts to the glass and glue them using a hot glue gun or sealant. At the same time, we drilled holes in the top of the reflectors: this is where you will lead the power wires. When the sealant has set, coat the ends of the reflectors and glass well, then press them tightly together until the sealant has completely set. The rings can be glued not to the glass, but to the reflector, but in this case, use a sealant, since a heat gun is powerless in front of large, cold metal.
Assembly of the headlight with angel eyes (rings glued to the reflector)
All that remains is to install the headlights in place, without confusing the high and low ones, and assemble a simple circuit:
Connection diagram for angel eyes for VAZ 2106 to the on-board network via the KR142EN8B stabilizer
The microcircuit must be equipped with a small radiator or mounted directly on the car body.
Angel eyes on LED strip
These angel eyes look much more effective than the previous design, but, oddly enough, they are not more difficult to make. For this version of DRLs (daytime running lights), the following materials will be required:
- White LED strip (SL) (2 m).
- 4 plexiglass sticks of rectangular cross-section (8x10x500 mm).
- 4 new glasses from VAZ 2106 headlights - 2 high beams and 2 low beams.
- Sealant.
- 12 V voltage stabilizer for powering LEDs.
The tools you will need are the same as for the previous design: a hacksaw for metal, two pliers, a mandrel with a diameter of 104–110 mm, hot water, a glue gun.
Make rings in the same way: heat the sticks in boiling water and bend them on the mandrel using two pliers:

In the version shown in the photo, the master used a glass salad bowl as a setting, but this is not the best option. When heated and subjected to simultaneous mechanical impact, the glassware may break. In my opinion, it is still better to use a metal coffee can as a mandrel.
Trim off the excess stick. As a result, you should get something like this:
Finished angel eyes rings for VAZ 2106
Now you need to attach the LED strip to these rings. Any width up to 8 mm with a 12 V white light will do (colored DRLs will cause problems with the traffic police, but more on that below). For example, a tape assembled on 5730, 2835 or 5050 is single-color, but the latter will cost a little more.
Cut 4 pieces of the required length from the tape (it is sold in 5 m reels), but do not forget that you can cut the SL along the areas marked on it (every 3 diodes). If the pieces turn out to be slightly longer than needed, it’s okay - the tape can be secured to the rings with a slight overlap. An open circle will create an unpleasant effect of incomplete angel eyes.
Prepare a heat gun and apply the SL to the ring with the LEDs facing the glass. Slightly bending the tape, glue it with dots to the ring. You can apply dots anywhere between the LEDs. As a result, you will get something like this:
5050 tape glued to the ring
In the photo it looks like the SL is glued into the groove, but this is an optical illusion. In fact, the tape is glued to the bottom of the LED ring to the glass.
When bending the tape, be careful and work without fanaticism. It doesn't bend well laterally, but it still bends. If the SL swells somewhere, then let it - it will not affect the quality of the eyes. Otherwise, you may damage the conductive paths and the piece of tape will be damaged.
Solder the wires to the SL, observing the polarity (marked on the tape near the contact pads). All other operations are the same as in the previous design (see above). Take out the headlights, remove the glass, glue the ring with a gun or sealant, assemble the headlight and put it in place. The connection diagram for these eyes will look like this:
Connection diagram for angel eyes assembled on an LED strip
And this is what the result of the completed work will look like:
This is what angel eyes look like on an LED strip during the day... ...and at night
How to make angel eyes with your own hands
You can install angel eyes on your car headlights yourself, without having to buy tuned headlights or go to a car service center.
To make angel eyes you will need:
- plexiglass sheet 5–7 mm thick;
- LED strip with the maximum number of diodes per linear meter of length;
Make homemade angel eyes. This option is more preferable in terms of saving money and time that will have to be spent searching for rings for headlights of the required diameter
- scattering film (or sandpaper);
- transparent glue;
- wires with terminals (preferably different colors) and a soldering iron with solder;
- heat-shrink tubing;
- silicone sealant.
The procedure for making homemade angel eyes is as follows:
- Determine the required ring sizes. Its outer diameter must ensure installation of the product under the headlight glass.
- Using a drill and a ballerina (a device for cutting large diameter circles, in the form of a drill with cutters attached to it), cut a circle from a sheet of plexiglass according to the size of the outer diameter of the ring. Then you need to cut out the inside of the circle and remove it.
- Cut the required length of the strip with LEDs, and solder the wiring with terminals to its terminals. Insulate the joint with silicone sealant and heat-shrink tube, heating it with a technical hair dryer.
- In the spaces between the diodes, glue support posts in the form of squares cut from the same plexiglass (at least 6 pieces) onto the LED strip. In height, they must protrude beyond the surface of the LEDs by at least 2 mm.
- Attach the LED strip to the ring by gluing the support posts.
- Glue the light diffuser in the form of a tape to the other surface of the ring or matte the plexiglass with sandpaper.
To install ready-made angel eyes you need:
- Completely dismantle the headlights, remove the glass, lamps and reflector, thoroughly cleaning all parts from dust and sealant residues. This must be done very carefully so as not to damage the latches and other fastening elements.
- Carefully drill a hole in the reflector to lead out the wiring from the LEDs.
- Attach the rings with sealant to the reflector and wait until it hardens completely.
- Check the functionality of the angel eyes by connecting them to the vehicle's on-board network. Only after this can you begin to complete the work.
- Insert the entire structure into place and assemble the headlight. When installing glass, you need to carefully fix it with sealant so that dust does not get inside the lighting equipment.
It is most convenient to connect the output wiring to the dimensions, strictly observing the polarity. It is the standard wiring of the side lights that runs closest to the headlights, and to connect you do not have to pull wires and install an additional switch.
Such structures can be installed not only in headlights, but also in foglights. There is nothing complicated in this work, it just requires attention and endurance. The result will be an updated look for your car.
Hi all. As promised, today I’ll tell you how to make “angel eyes”
at home, using available tools and materials. The article will be useful to those who love to make things with their own hands. Go!?
We all know what angel eyes are, and who owns (the chip belongs to BMW) this invention that is so popular with millions of motorists around the world. But, unfortunately, not everyone has the opportunity to buy a BMW, but they want to have beautiful tuned optics. What to do in this case? Everything is very simple, you need to “flex your brains” and make angel eyes with your own hands
.
To work you need to prepare:
- "Straight arms" :-). I’m joking, of course, but without the slightest experience in handmade crafts, you most likely won’t succeed... Therefore, before taking on this work, you need to realistically assess your own abilities.
- Plexiglas tubes (transparent PVC tubes). You can buy these online, at a hardware store, or at a decor store. Some craftsmen get creative and use strips of plexiglass or PVC as a plexiglass tube, which they cut into square strips, after which they are sanded into a round shape with sandpaper of different grain sizes. As an option, some use LED strip, but that’s a completely different story... I think someday I’ll tell you about this option for creating angel eyes.
- Soldering iron, four 12V resistors, bright LEDs rated at 3.5 volts. The color of the LEDs is at your discretion.
- A template or layout according to which the tube will be bent. The diameter of the template should match the diameter of the place where you are going to install the angel eyes. Here you can use anything: from a coffee can to a drainpipe of the required diameter...
- Electrical tape, heat shrink, soft copper wire. The length of the wire will be different for everyone, it all depends on the method of wiring and the location of the connection.
- Pliers, a household hair dryer, a metal blade or a special miniature cutting wheel for a screwdriver or drill.
- Sandpaper of different grains, file or needle file.
Options for ready-made modules
If you don’t want to bother with making angel eyes, you can use ready-made rings that are on sale. The most popular of them:
- Gas discharge (CCFL).
- Cluster.
- LED.
Gas discharge
They are ordinary fluorescent tubes made in the shape of a ring. Since such tubes require high voltage and ignition, a boost converter with a starting system (inverter) is included with the rings.
Gas discharge angel eyes
Cluster
These eyes are a solid base on which an LED matrix (COB technology) is applied, made in the form of a radial spiral. These eyes are powered by 12 V, and often come with a 12-volt stabilizer.
Cluster angel eyes using COB technology Angel eyes on SMD LEDs
Angel eyes. Or a review of the ring LED matrix.
As usual, a short review and off-label use. Ring LED matrices or otherwise angel eyes are usually used for car modification as running lights.
Here's the product itself:
The size of the small background cell is 1 cm. Background overview
This copy contains 42 LEDs. The outer diameter of the structure is 73 mm, the inner diameter is 58 mm.
The matrix is located in a diffusing plastic shade.
The structure is not airtight. Two wires are connected to the matrix:
in the middle of which there is a small black box:
The lampshade has 3 latches for fastening:
In the kit, the seller sends two copies of the product.
Such matrices come in a very simple form - just a ring of LEDs and wires. So and in this way - full pack. Matrix, wires, lampshade and... some kind of box. I've always wondered what's in that little box?
Here's what:
PT4115 is an LED power driver. It stabilizes the current and, accordingly, the brightness of the matrix with an input voltage from a little more than 11 volts to 30 volts. Well, more precisely, the driver itself works at a lower voltage, but in conjunction with this matrix, the minimum voltage when stabilization begins is exactly that. The entire design - matrix plus driver consumes 3.2 W. This power does not change when the supply voltage changes:
On the other side of the board:
MB6F is a diode bridge. Stands in front of the driver. So the structure can be connected in any polarity and even to alternating voltage.
Brightness. From a distance of 1.5 meters, the matrix provides a maximum illumination of 21 lux. For comparison, from the same distance, a 220 V, 60 W incandescent reflector bulb provides an illumination of 115 lux. The light is white, cold, very cold.
Now about use. Modifying the car was not part of my plans; I needed a ring light for macro photography. The branded ones cost an unreasonable amount of money for non-professional use, and this thing is pennies, so I decided to try it.
When you bring the camera close to the subject, it casts a shadow on the subject, often unevenly. Ring lighting is designed to eliminate this drawback.
Here's what it looks like on a smartphone:
And here it is on the camera:
Well, now a few shots using ring lighting.
Here is a photo of the pins from my connector review, taken using this light: Connector Review
Here is another illustrative example, in the first photo it was not possible to avoid a shadow on the subject, in the second, using a ring light, there is no shadow:
The product was provided for writing a review by the store. The review was published in accordance with clause 18 of the Site Rules.
Legality of installation
How legal is it to install angel eyes yourself and will there be any problems with the traffic police? Angel eyes are a type of daytime running lights, and therefore the requirements for them are the same:
- DRLs turn on with or instead of low beam headlights and turn off when switching to high beam.
- The color of the front lights, except for fog lights, must be white of any color temperature - from warm to cold.
So it turns out that you can have white angel eyes? But there is one more nuance. There is a provision “On the inadmissibility of operating a vehicle with installed light diffusers and lamps that are not provided for by the design of lighting devices and their optics” and the phrase: “The operation of vehicles with changes made that are not provided for by the design is prohibited.”
So it's impossible? It is possible, but only if the changes are made by employees of specialized service stations that have the appropriate license. Thus, by installing homemade angel eyes, you risk losing not only them, but also your right to drive a vehicle for a period of six months to a year.
The question arises: why are they being sold then? They sell a lot of things: cellular jammers, wiretapping, stun guns capable of knocking out a brontosaurus... It’s just not prohibited to sell and buy, but you will use them at your own responsibility.
That's probably all about angel eyes. If you carefully read this article, you can easily do your own headlight tuning by making and installing this original type of daytime running lights.
Varieties of angel eyes
The popularity of this type of tuning is facilitated by the variety of types for self-installation. Each type has its pros and cons, each method of unique lighting has its fans and admirers. This section will talk about the possibility of making and installing some types yourself.
Video: Comparison of CCFL vs COB & Dual COB
The main differences between all types are:
- in design features and installation method;
- in the configuration and method of igniting light sources;
- in size and given configuration of the outline shape.
The geometry of angel eyes always follows the contour of the headlight or taillight reflector. That is, the shape can be rectangular, oval, teardrop-shaped or other. All varieties can be grouped into several types:
- gas-discharge CCFL is a neon single-color glow of gas-filled tubes;
- diode SMD (LED) - this is a single-color glow of diode lamps;
- cluster LED COB is a single-color glow of LEDs coated with a special layer;
- diode multicolor RGB - a glow consisting of many glows of different solid colors, switchable using the control panel;
Let's look at a brief description of each type.
Gas discharge CCFL
CCFL angel eyes kit for FORD MONDEO
These are the most popular, practical, factory-made models - quite bright, with a uniform glow, consisting of a neon lamp with a cold cathode. But self-assembly kits, mostly made in China, are inferior in brightness compared to other types of lights. The set consists of a thin glass tube, the inner side of which is coated with a glow-enhancing composition - a phosphor, a light diffuser and an aluminum foil substrate with a reflector. The tube is filled with a mixture of an inert gas with a small admixture of mercury vapor. This mixture begins to glow when a high voltage current passes through it. To convert standard 12 volt voltage into high voltage of 500 volts and above, a special device is used - an ignition unit. One block is enough to light the paired headlight angel eyes.
When the BMW concern installed this look on its cars, they created a real sensation. But it soon became clear that in terms of glow power, neon angel eyes were inferior to the standard side lighting of competitors, and engineers began to look for ways to increase the brightness of the luminous rings. Basically, the composition of the gases filling the tube changes. The advantages of neon round lamps: a uniform bright glow in the form of a circle, which is wider than the tube itself; cheapness; durability and operability of the design, the tube practically does not heat up when turned on for a long time. There are more disadvantages. Slight delay in flashing when turned on; difficulty in self-installation (they are placed inside the headlights, so you need to remove the glass), frequent burnout of the ignition unit. There are still ready-made sets of tubes in the form of circles of different sizes on sale, and they are popular. Modern technologies, instead of fragile glass with a complex composition of luminous gas, have proposed using optical fiber, which shines almost worse than a neon tube.

LED SMD
This type is the brightest of all existing types. The design is a dielectric base in the form of a ring - textolite is most often used. Many SMD crystal LEDs are mounted on this board using soldering at close range. This technology involves individually coating each diode with a phosphor. The glow turns out to be bright and discrete, that is, not continuous. The dot glow consists of a large number of simultaneously lit and clearly visible miniature light sources. These models are directly connected to the vehicle's on-board network. No additional devices are required. This design is also installed inside the optics. Therefore, its main disadvantage is to repeatedly remove the glass and disassemble the headlight in order to eliminate the malfunction. If at least one of the diodes burns out or deteriorates, its functionality can only be restored by replacement. It is quite difficult to do this in artisanal conditions, but it is possible. When the diode goes out, a black gap appears in the glow of the angel's eye, which looks bad. Another problem is strong heating during operation. Therefore, you need to think about cooling. To do this, the board must be inserted into a case made of a material that dissipates heat well. For example, made of aluminum. The following advantages of diode angel eyes compared to gas-discharge lamps can be noted:
- longer service life;
- consume less energy;
- high-quality diodes shine brighter and more intensely;
- if all diodes are in good condition, the light is distributed evenly across the entire width of the ring;
- are insensitive to fluctuations in atmospheric temperature outside, as they demonstrate stable operation in the temperature range from minus 40 to plus 100 degrees Celsius;
- point glow, directional;
- It is possible to use a light diffuser.
Video: Angel Eyes LSB & SMD
Cluster LED COB
The most uniform glow for angel eyes is provided by diodes mounted using SOV technology. The essence of this innovation is that very small diode crystals are glued with a special, complex adhesive to the dielectric base of a solid LED. They do not have ceramic housings or substrates, so there are much more of them per unit area compared to SMD technology. Accordingly, they are located at a much smaller distance from each other.
On top, all diodes are covered with a common layer of phosphor, which makes the glow uniform and rich, hiding the gaps between the diodes. The failure of even a few crystals will not be noticeable. This technology is very difficult to implement, since the diodes are glued to a layer of glue several microns in size. Moreover, the glue must be applied evenly and in several layers. So far, no one has reproduced this technology at home. This structure cannot be repaired and must be replaced entirely. Cluster types require a stabilizer that is built into their power supply circuit.

If you have the desire and not so expensive materials, you can make “angel eyes” yourself like on a BMW in just a couple of hours. This is true for all machines with round optics. In the case of VAZs, this primarily applies to 2101, 2102, 2103 and 2106.
To make the “eyes” we will need: transparent plastic sticks. Usually we use rods from blinds, but we need ones that are not hollow inside (i.e., not tubes) and not faceted. Length - slightly larger than the circumference of your optics. For VAZ 2103 and 2106, 4 pieces 45 cm long will be enough. You will also need heat-resistant sealant for headlights, 4 yellow light bulbs (if the dimensions and turns are transparent, if orange, ordinary ones will do), 8 diodes and 4 2-component resistors. Well, most likely 4 new glasses because... You can’t pick out the old ones whole...
In order to bend the sticks into a ring you need something round. Usually they use everything round that comes to hand. For the small headlights of the VAZ 2103 and 2106, a Nescafe coffee can has an almost perfect circle, the one that holds 200 grams, or 125 cups, who measures what :)
Now, in order to bend our sticks, they must first be heated. This can be done in different ways: over an open fire or in the oven. In our case, we will consider the last option. The plastic stick was placed on the lid of a large frying pan turned upside down.
Now, while the stick is “preparing” for bending, we prepare 2 pliers, a chair and a pattern in the form of a can. We watch the plastic, as soon as it heats up enough that it bends under its own weight and barely touches the bottom of the lid - open the oven, grab one end with pliers, pull it out and use the second pliers to wrap it around the jar. It should look something like this:
We wait a few minutes until the plastic cools down and hardens back, after which we remove the resulting ring from the jar. Now you need to do this with the remaining sticks
Now take a hacksaw for metal and cut off ONLY the extra ends so that you end up with a ring, or the most round shape possible :)
Now, in order for the ends to be clearly one opposite the other, you need to slightly heat the middle of the ring (for example, over a gas stove) and align it. You can check how even it is by simply placing it on a flat surface.
Now the most painstaking part of our “craft” - we drill holes at both ends strictly to the diameter of the purchased diodes:
Now we cut off the legs of the diodes so that they are approximately 5mm long (!!!). Where there is a large boss, this is a plus. Now perhaps the most difficult thing is that you need to solder the diodes parallel to each other and solder a wire to each of the legs. To avoid getting tangled in wires when connecting, we recommend using different colored wires. Now, having stepped back about 10-15 cm, we cut the wire leading to the plus of the diode (large boss) and solder the resistance there.
We install diodes in the end holes of our rings. But before that, we ask the women (we buy the cheapest one as a last resort) for any TRANSPARENT nail polish and literally drop a drop into each hole (there are two of them). To prevent the varnish from drying, we immediately insert diodes into the holes. It takes about 30 minutes for the varnish to dry properly. As a result you should get something like this:
We used nail polish for a reason. The fact is that after drilling a hole with a drill, the surface inside is “scratched,” which means that the plastic does not have absolute contact with the diode and therefore light will pass less well from the diode to the plastic. And the varnish fills all the “voids” and makes 2 different parts seem like a single whole.
Connect and see the difference
Now let's disassemble the headlights. Although this could have been done before... If the glass does not give in, there is nothing left to do but break it, fortunately it is not so expensive.
After glass removal, debris inevitably remains on the surface of the reflector. It needs to be removed. I used cotton swabs for my ears:
STRONGLY NOT RECOMMENDED
touch the surface of the reflector with your hands, and even more so wipe the mirror
with ALCOHOL-CONTAINING
cleaning agents. Otherwise, you will get light like a flashlight (the surface of the mirror may darken and become cloudy).
Apply headlight sealant to the edges of the glass:
Next (carefully!), we place our ring in the headlight with the diodes facing up. There should be a “notch” on the headlight - it’s perfect for wires. The notches should face the light bulb. For tightness, we fill the distances along the edges of the glass and headlights with the same silicone sealant so that there is no air at all. We leave the headlights for the time necessary for the sealant to “set” (see the instructions for the sealant). Usually about 30 minutes may be enough for this... Now you can connect the power and evaluate the result
It looks more than impressive.
Now a few words about connecting all this, i.e. about electrics. We install the headlights and thread the wires from the “eyes” along with the old wires to the headlight. Now all the wires are under the hood!
Let's look at one of the options here for how this can be done. If you wish, you can connect it differently... In the same case described, after the alteration, the “angel eyes” will become larger.
We disconnect the plug of the wires going to the turns and dimensions. Connect the “father” from dimensions and turns with the “mother” from turns. Those. 2 wires in 1
After this, the “+” freed from the dimensions is used to connect one pair of “eyes”. We do the same on the other side. The “cons” can be screwed under the signal mounts. As a result, standard dimensions become turns. It looks great! Now the turns are flashing with double intensity - only a deaf-blind person would not notice the 2 lights. And when you turn on the headlights, the coveted “angel eyes” light up! During the day:
Of course, installing a “peephole” in a BMW will not change the “six”, but the view at night changes dramatically.
VAZ 2107, despite the considerable age of the model, has not lost its popularity. The low price, ease of maintenance and unpretentiousness appeal to domestic car owners. To make the familiar features of the “Seven” attractive and emphasize individuality, owners use a variety of tuning elements. “Angel eyes” on a VAZ 2107 is a simple and inexpensive way to decorate a car with your own hands.
LiveInternetLiveInternet
Make side lights for the “six”, like the new BMW? Why not... With “their” know-how, we always have pliers, wire cutters or a metal saw.
Angel Eyes - BMW know-how. Not everyone likes side lights in the form of luminous white circles, but if you really want it and you are not afraid of problems with the traffic police, you can install angel eyes on a domestic car with your own hands. It’s best for a car with round front optics, for example, a VAZ-2106 or 21213. Of course, the same can be done with a foreign car, for example, an “old lady” BMW E30 - it will look much cooler after that.
To work, you need to get a transparent plastic rod that can withstand high temperatures. It is recommended to look in stores that sell curtains and blinds. However, hex handles for blinds are not suitable due to the emptiness inside.
The tools you need are pliers, wire cutters or a metal saw, a file or drill with a cutting wheel, a hair dryer, and a soldering iron. You will also need a large flat container in which to place the rod; a large round can (for example, from Bulgarian canned tomatoes), insulating tape (preferably carbon), 220 Ohm, 3.5 resistors, volt LEDs (4 pcs.), wires and connectors.
We select the length of the rod: for example, with a piece of thin hose, or calculate it using the formula 3.14 x D (where D is the internal diameter of the headlight). Cut off the rod. Heat it in a prepared container with a hairdryer or boil it until it becomes soft.
Carefully remove the workpiece with pliers and wrap it around the jar. Hold until the workpiece has cooled. Solder resistors to the LED legs. Each headlight requires 2 diodes. When soldering LEDs to the “plus” of a side lamp, do not reverse the polarity. All connections must be carefully insulated with tape. Check how it works.
Make several dozen cuts on the ring to a depth of no more than 1/3, along the outside. Notches are needed to make the light “radiant”, otherwise there will be not “angel eyes”, but God knows what. When working with a drill (or even a hacksaw), be careful.
To install the ring in the headlight, you will have to remove the glass. The standard size can be removed and the hole should preferably be plugged. And place the diodes at the top so that they are not conspicuous. The ring is held without fasteners, pressed against the reflector by the glass.
Unfortunately, photography cannot convey the actual image. In fact, the glow is weaker and only lines in the place of the cuts are visible.
Tuning is a slippery business. You did all this with your own hands at your own peril and risk. If, while undergoing a technical inspection, you look at the inspector with “angel eyes,” he will definitely turn you down. However, once a year you can change the headlights to regular ones...

Advantages of tuning “angel eyes”
Tuned “LADAS” are often found and invariably attract attention. This is especially true not for the annoying plastic body kits (many of which are very standard), but for newer, brighter (literally and figuratively) parts - the “angel eyes” headlights on the VAZ 2107. The advantages of this direction of tuning are as follows:
- You can modify the lighting system yourself, without resorting to the services of a service station;
- materials for modifying headlights are quite affordable;
- “angel eyes” provide high-quality illumination, noticeable even in the daytime;
- The lighting system is reliable and durable;
- tuning provides a beautiful original appearance of the “Seven”.
This illumination is an excellent addition to the large rectangular headlights of the VAZ 2107.
What are “angel eyes”
Tuning headlights “angel eyes” are luminous rings located around the perimeter of the reflector. This gives the headlights an unusual and attractive look. For the first time, such tuning was used by the famous German company BMW and it quickly became popular among owners of all brands of cars. The luminous “border” on the reflector is made of LED strip, which is reliable and has low power consumption.
The LED strip is mounted and connected very simply, so the services of specialists are completely unnecessary. Anyone can make “angel eyes” on a VAZ 2107 with their own hands.
Options for “angel eyes” on the VAZ 2107
Tuning angel eyes headlights can be done in several ways:
Let's look at the latest options in more detail.
What is needed to make “angel eyes” on a VAZ 2107
To decorate your “seven”, you need the following tools and materials:
- plastic tubes or strips corresponding to the perimeter of the car's optics;
- heat-resistant sealant for optics;
- LED strip (the color and brightness of the LEDs depends only on your taste);
- spare headlight glasses (in case it is not possible to carefully remove the standard glasses);
- insulated wire or cable;
- resistors;
- insulating tape;
- battery (9 volts);
- headlight size template;
- glue gun;
- pliers;
- hair dryer (if not, you can use a regular oven);
- drill with a set of drills and attachments.
Step-by-step manufacturing guide
Place all the tools and materials on the workbench (or table) so that there is order and you don’t accidentally lose anything. Order is the key to saving a lot of time and making complete assembly a breeze. First of all, you need to bend the plastic rods so that they follow the contour of your headlight. To do this, it is best to warm up the tubes with a hair dryer. If you don’t have this tool, use what you have. In any case, everyone has an oven.
Making a blank from a plastic tube
Now you will need a jar that has a diameter equal to the headlight. Before installing angel eyes in car optics, you need to adjust all dimensions. Take the hot tube with pliers and wrap it around this jar, making one turn. Fix the rod in this position and allow time to cool. After this, it will become durable and can be safely removed from the mandrel. Repeat this procedure with the second rod. The main thing is not to let it overheat, otherwise the structure will be damaged and the tube will completely deteriorate. And when you wrap the rod, do it slowly so that it does not burst from sudden deformation.
You have a new blank - a ring made of a tube. It needs to be modified a little by getting rid of the edges. The ends should be about three centimeters apart. Under no circumstances should they touch. This work is carried out with a file or needle file. Now the most difficult stage is the notches. The more of them, the more beautiful the angel eyes will look on your car. You can choose the step yourself. It can be either 2.5 millimeters or half a centimeter. The first option is, of course, more effective. It is best to start from the middle of the ring to ensure even distribution of the notches.
How to make “angel eyes” on a VAZ 2107
When the materials and tools are collected, you can begin to work. LED strip backlighting is made as follows:
- make a mold with a perimeter corresponding to the size of the “seven” headlights and the planned “eye” shape;
- heat the transparent tube with a hairdryer or in the oven to a temperature at which it begins to bend easily;
- Using pliers, bend the heated tube around the perimeter of the template;
Important: do not allow the tube to overheat, otherwise bubbles will appear in its material.
- wait until the tube cools down;
- make notches on the tube in increments of 2 mm;
- insert LEDs (LED strip) into the tube;
- solder the LEDs in series (the LED strip can be soldered or cut only in the places specified by the manufacturer);
- solder resistors and wires to the LEDs (the value of the resistors depends on the length of the strip and the type of LEDs);
- sand and insulate the soldering areas.
If not LEDs are used, but an LED strip, the tube can be replaced with a plastic strip.
It is necessary to carefully check the quality of the workmanship before installing “angel eyes” in the headlights.
Installation of “angel eyes” on a VAZ 2107
After manufacturing the LED backlight, it must be installed inside the headlight unit. This is done like this:
- dismantle the headlights;
- heat the headlight glass with a hairdryer and remove it;
- install “angel eyes” in the headlight units and glue them with glue or sealant;
- connect the backlight wires to the side lamps;
- glue the headlight glass with sealant;
- install and connect headlights;
- check the operation of the LED backlight.
Now you know how to make “angel eyes” on a VAZ 2107 and can do the work yourself. This will make your car more attractive and it will become more recognizable in traffic.
Today, many people can only afford to buy a domestic car: a Kalina Priora or a VAZ. These brands are often found on the roads of our country. To make them more attractive and unusual, many car owners go for original auto tuning. The most popular and easiest do-it-yourself auto tuning today is “angel eyes” headlights.
Tuning "angel eyes"
We will tell you how to make angel eyes on a viburnum or a vase with your own hands in this article.
Installation
Installing angel eyes with your own hands is quite difficult; it requires skill and sometimes good nerves. Installation requires disassembly of each headlight. Most headlights are assembled on a sealant, which softens when heated with a hair dryer. Much less common on sealant, which is rubber. It doesn’t melt or soften; you have to carefully pick it out and cut it for several hours. One headlight can take from 1 to 5 hours. The first time it took me about 10 hours to analyze it. Due to inexperience, you can ruin the presentation in the area where the glass and the body meet.
Then the diameter of the seat is measured and the angel eyes are installed. Degrease the gluing areas and fix the parts. The kit often comes with double-sided tape for installation, but I don't trust it. The halogen low beam lamp in the headlight gets very hot and affects this tape.
Reassemble the headlight in the reverse order using a special rubber sealant. Assemble in such a way that you can disassemble it without consequences next time. If you assemble it poorly, moisture will get inside, the headlight will sweat, and the wires will rot.
There are several connection options in the headlight:
- inclusion along with dimensions;
- instead of side lights;
- together with DRL;
- turning on two-color lights along with the turn signal;
If the connection to the dimensions does not suit you, you can use the controller for the daytime running lights DRL to control on and off. Search for "DRL controller". To connect RGB, single-color schemes are suitable, but you will have to look for a place to place the RGB control unit.
If you are not confident in your abilities and lack experience, it is better to contact a specialist auto electrician.
Benefits of tuning
Today, the “pumped up” VAZ (models 2101, 2105, 2106, 2107, 2109, 2110, 2112, 2114, 2115, 21099) or Viburnum Priora are found in all regions of our country. Car tuning can be very diverse, often installing new body kits. But this won’t surprise anyone anymore. But the installation of “angel eyes” on a domestically produced vehicle is still a curiosity and can amaze even the most ardent opponents of the domestic automobile industry. The advantages of installing “angel eyes” on a Priora or VAZ are the following points:
- the ability to assemble a lighting system with your own hands;
- availability of system materials;
- high-quality headlight illumination;
- long service life of the prefabricated system;
- beautiful appearance of the car;
- high-quality and original auto tuning of a domestic car.
Illumination “angel eyes” will be an excellent addition to any VAZ model (from 2101 to 2115 and 21099) or Priora.
Tuning features
Auto-tuning “angel eyes” consists of luminous rings that are located on reflectors. Such rings give the car originality and unusualness. It is worth noting that this type of tuning is the most attractive in terms of finishing of domestic vehicles.
Note! BMW is considered the creator of such tuning.
Glowing rings are formed from LED strip, making this tuning:
- durable;
- resistant to mechanical damage;
- provides high-quality lighting;
- Quite easy to assemble.
Due to the fact that the basis of the luminous rings is an LED strip, anyone can do such tuning with their own hands. To do this, you just need to strictly follow the instructions given below.
Getting ready for work
In order to decorate your vase (models from 2101 to 2115 and 21099), you will need to prepare a certain set of materials and tools.
Note! It is almost impossible to find a suitable lighting and optical system for a car in stores. Therefore, you will have to make it yourself.
To make “angel eyes” for a vase, you will need the following materials:
- several plastic sticks. They must be equal in length to the dimensions of the optics on the machine. Therefore, to create tuning we will need four plastic sticks with a length of approximately 40-45 cm;
- heat-resistant sealant suitable for working with optics;
- four LED bulbs or strip. If using tape, give preference to the SMD 5050 model with 60 diodes per meter. The choice of LED glow color is determined only by your imagination. The best solution would be to match the color of the car with the color of the LEDs;
- four spare glasses for headlights. You need to buy them just in case, since it’s unlikely that you can remove the old ones intact and without chips;
- cable;
- resistors;
- 9 volt battery;
- a can or any round object that has the same diameter as the headlights;
- plexiglass with a sheet thickness of 10 mm.
The tools you will need are a glue gun, a hair dryer and pliers. You also need a drill with a set of drills and disk attachments.
Execution options
“Angel eyes” on a vase can be made in several ways:
- Simply purchase it at a store that specializes in alternative headlights. In this situation, all you have to do is install the headlights on the car yourself. But there is one significant drawback - finding suitable headlights is quite problematic, and they are not cheap;
- design of “eyes” using transparent tubes and LEDs;
- making tuning using LED strips.
Let's look at the option when “angel eyes” are made from plastic tubes.
Installation option
Purchased item
As already mentioned, today this kind of tuning can be obtained as follows:
- buy in the store. But for domestic cars this is not the best solution, and it is not always possible to select rings of the required diameter;
- make homemade angel eyes. This option is more preferable in terms of saving money and time that will have to be spent searching for rings for headlights of the required diameter.
To the question “how to make angel eyes?” There are two answers that are not very different in terms of implementation:
- assembly of an optical system from a ring (LED strip);
- making a lighting system using a transparent tube.
Once you have decided on such tuning, you should find out what such an optical system will be made of. But remember that you will definitely need an ignition unit through which you can connect a homemade lighting device.
After the new lights are ready, you need to temporarily dismantle the existing ones to connect the wiring. Now install the diodes into the headlight housing so that they are almost invisible.
Installing angel eyes in a headlight
Solder the new contacts to the old ones, connect them into one “network” and connect it back to the main power supply of the car.
It is better to perform the installation at night or in the evening in order to fully appreciate the lighting. You may need more powerful LEDs or a good polishing of the headlight glass.
The time has come to move on to, perhaps, the most unpleasant and unloved phase of the work, namely, the dismantling of the headlight glasses. But, unfortunately, there is no way without this. Remove the standard dimensions and be sure to plug the holes. Install the prepared diodes on top so that they are visible as little as possible.
After that, attach it in place and check how the whole structure works. Be sure to do this in the evening or at night to really feel the effects. To prevent your impression from being spoiled by cloudy headlights, do not forget to polish the headlights first. We wrote earlier about different methods of polishing optics.
Finally, I would like to note that tuning, even if it is small, is a very responsible matter. If you are not confident that you can complete all or any part of the assembly, it is better to practice on something else first, or immediately seek help from a professional electrical installation specialist.

We create beauty
When all the listed materials and tools have been collected, you can safely begin creating “angel eyes” on a vase or prior. In order for everything to work out correctly and quickly, you must adhere to the following instructions:
Curved tubes
- We heat the transparent tube until it begins to bend and easily give in to the necessary deformations. You can heat the tube using a hair dryer or a regular oven;
- take a round shape. In its role, you should use a round salad bowl or coffee can. Using pliers, we bend the heated plastic tube around the perimeter of a round shape;
Note! Be careful while shaping the tube. so that it is not overheated. Otherwise, small bubbles may form in the plastic.
- Next, we wait for the tube to completely harden;
- after that, we saw off the edges so that LEDs can be installed in the tube;
- then we assemble the resistor and LEDs, carefully insulate the contacts and grind the soldering points;
- then you need to make notches on the tube in increments of approximately 2-2.5 mm. In this case, you should retreat 1–1.5 cm from the edges;
Note! To ensure that the notches are made evenly, the process of their formation must be controlled using a plastic clamp. If you make notches with the LEDs turned on, then you can already at this stage view the final result of your work.
Notches on the pipe
- In order for the glow emanating from the LEDs to be uniform and bright enough, the notches should be placed closer to the center. At the same time, they need to be made deeper: in the middle - 5 mm, and at the ends - 2 mm;
- after this, it is necessary to solder the diodes, making sure to observe the sequence so that the current flowing through them is equalized. The tape should be cut and soldered only in specially designated areas;
- We finally insert the LEDs into the tube.
As a result, the ends of the rings should have holes 5-7 mm long and 5 mm in diameter. It is recommended to use foil to cover the ends of the plastic tube. If an LED strip is used, it is simply glued to a plastic strip. In this case, the tape is soldered according to the standard scheme. Before installing your homemade “angel eyes” system on your car, be sure to check it for build quality, the glow of the LEDs and the strength of the resulting structure. Otherwise, if problems are discovered after installation, it will be very difficult to eliminate defects.
LED strip angel eyes
Rings with two LEDs have significant disadvantages. Firstly, they are open. Secondly, they are not bright enough to be used as daytime running lights. Angel eyes made from LED strips are free of such disadvantages. To make them you will need:
To begin with, future rings are marked on a sheet of plexiglass. Then they are cut out, first along the outer diameter. They should only be cut with a hand jigsaw or a ballerina. If you use a jigsaw, the plexiglass will melt at the cut site.
The resulting circle is checked in place on the headlight, if necessary, the size is adjusted. After checking, you can cut out the inside.
For better glow, the outside of the rings is covered with a special diffusing film. If it is not there, then you can make notches with a hacksaw blade or simply mat it with fine sandpaper.
Now you can install the tape. Before gluing, you need to carefully attach small cubes - six pieces will be enough - of plexiglass between the LEDs so that the distance between the diodes and the surface of the ring is about two mm. The tape is attached to the finished ring by gluing these cubes.
Before attaching the tape to the rings, you need to solder the wires to it and fill the soldering areas with silicone sealant.
The finished rings can already be checked by connecting them to a 12 volt power source.
Power connection
Ready-made angel eyes are usually connected to the power supply for the side lights of a car. This is the simplest and most effective method, since there is no need to lay additional wiring and make a separate switch. It is imperative to observe the polarity - unlike a conventional incandescent lamp, you cannot connect the LED haphazardly. If you confuse the plus and minus, it will not burn.
You need to carefully drill a small hole in the headlight or fog lamp reflector, just so that the wires can pass through it. After final installation of the ring and assembly of the headlight, it will need to be filled with sealant.
The power supply of the tape is connected to the on-board network using standard wiring to the side lights, observing the polarity.
In a similar way, you can make and install angel eyes with your own hands, not only in car headlights. Fog lights can also be decorated with LED rings. The headlights of motorcycles and scooters will also look great if you install self-made LED lighting in them.

Installation on the machine
Ready tuning
Once you have assembled the angel eyes optical system, consider that half the battle is done. All that remains is to install it correctly on the headlights of your car. At this stage it is necessary to perform the following manipulations:
- here we need heat shrink tubing. It can be bought at any specialized store. Choose a white product. This color will not attract unnecessary attention and will not stand out against the background of glowing LEDs;
- attach the LED ring to the vehicle headlights;
- we cover them with new protective glasses, since the old ones will most likely no longer be suitable;
- We treat the joints with sealant.
Now you see that “angel eyes” can be made quite easily yourself, following the step-by-step instructions. The end result will be a beautiful auto-tuning for a domestic VAZ (model 2110, 2112, 2114 or 2115), making your “swallow” more attractive and original. The main thing is to strictly follow the assembly steps and believe in yourself.

What are angel eyes
In 2001, the German concern BMW presented the restyling of the E39 model to the public. The main change was in the headlights: a luminous border appeared around the standard front headlight lamp. It began to glow in all four headlights when the driver turned on the headlights. The new product looked very impressive, the public immediately received it with a bang. The round edging is popularly called angel eyes (Angeleyes).
Now the edging in the headlights can be seen on different cars, even on domestic Zhiguli cars. But the installed luminous “pupils” on any car except BMW are the result of tuning. In the factory configuration, angel eyes only come in “beh” versions, since the German manufacturer has patented the system.
Car enthusiasts love angel eyes because they give the car a modern look. There is also a practical value in the luminous rim - when the “pupils” are turned on, the car becomes more visible, safety on the road increases (other drivers see such beauty from afar, which reduces the likelihood of an accident). Angel eyes provide good visibility not only at night, but also in daylight, so they can be used as daytime running lights (but only on condition that the brightness of the emitted light is in the range from 400 to 800 candelas - this meets the requirements of GOST R 41.48 -2004).
