Using autostart is a convenient thing, but on any more or less modern car it directly conflicts with the car’s standard anti-theft system. What do autostart circuits physically do? Turn on the ignition and power to the starter, bypassing the ignition switch. But at the moment when voltage appears on the circuits powered through the ignition line (regardless of how), the car’s standard immobilizer begins to request a response chip, which is either applied to a separate reader or located in the key itself. No response – engine starting is blocked. For successful autostart, the alarm must be able to simulate the presence of a chip in the reader’s coverage area - this task is performed by the immobilizer crawler.
What systems of operation of a regular immo exist?
- RF >
The VATS system is considered the most difficult to bypass, since technologies are constantly being improved during the production of such devices. For example, the encryption in such devices is no longer 40-bit, but 80-bit, as a result of which it will be extremely difficult to bypass such an immo.
Healthy! In order to disable the standard immobilizer operating on the VATS system, it is enough to determine the resistance value of the resistor. Typically it ranges from 400-11800 Ohms. If you determine it, then all that remains is to select a part with the same indicator.
Today, the most popular devices are equipped with just such blocks (VATS), for example, the Starline i95 immobilizer. But you shouldn’t despair, since the same company that produces the best immos today also produces the highest quality linemen.
Where is the immobilizer located and how does it work?
There are several types of immobilizers:
1. Contact immobilizer.
2. Contactless immobilizer with long range.
3. Contactless immobilizer with a small radius.
4. Immobilizer, which controls the hood lock.
In fact, the immobilizer is not an alarm system, although this opinion is quite common. This device is not able to notify the driver of an unauthorized access attempt; it only immobilizes the car. Therefore, to achieve the maximum level of vehicle protection, it is necessary to install both devices simultaneously. Law enforcement agencies assure that such measures can significantly reduce the number of crimes.
The circuitry of the device can be compared to a switch that is controlled electronically. Low-current circuits pass through the device, which are used in the vehicle’s on-board circuit and are automatically released when the immobilizer receives a special command. Depending on the settings and the exact model of the device, shutdown occurs when the ignition is turned off, there is no movement for a certain time, or when the RFID tag is removed from the built-in receiver. Many models are capable of blocking the following mechanisms:
1.Starter.
2. Ignition system.
3.Fuel pump.
4. A computer that controls fuel injection.
Immobilizer advantages:
1. It is very difficult for an attacker to understand that such a device is in a car. Even if a thief carefully inspects the vehicle before stealing, he will not be able to notice it. But after the hack, he will have a lot of problems.
2. It is virtually impossible to disable it.
3.It is convenient and easy to use.
4.It is very reliable and works silently.
Immobilizer bypass module StarLine BP 03
This device is intended for standard devices operating using the RFID system. Typically, such devices do not allow starting the engine remotely, which, in turn, is inconvenient for several reasons. First, you can't start your car from home to warm it up in the cold of winter. Secondly, remote engine start is considered more reliable, since at this moment a potential thief will not see you.
In order to solve these problems, it is enough to install the Starline immobilizer bypass module, which costs about 500-600 rubles.
This useful device consists of:
- central block;
- loop antenna with connector and cable for connection;
- antennas in the form of a wire loop;
- instructions.
Important! In order for the standard bp 03 immobilizer bypass module to work, you will need a spare key with a transponder. You can order it at the dealership of your car brand.
To install bp 03, you don’t need any special knowledge; it’s enough to understand at least something about electronics and have hands growing from your shoulders.
Immobilizer check
How to make a kenguryatnik for a car with your own hands and legalize the product.
Do-it-yourself Kenguryatnik on Niva manufacturing and installation Before you start searching for the cause of the immobilizer failure, you should check and correct, if necessary, the following parts of the car:
- Battery, and in case of insufficient charge, recharge.
- Use the original ignition key used in the specific car model.
- Remove electronic gadgets and other devices that can interfere with the immobilizer signal.
You can check the functionality of the device by wrapping the key in food foil and inserting it into the ignition switch. If the key indicator on the dashboard does not light up due to signal shielding, the car will not start. When the foil is removed, the engine should start.
How to connect the Starline crawler module
To connect the Starline immobilizer crawler, you will need to open the housing of the central control unit and insert a spare key with a chip (transponder) into it. In this case, the flat antenna is located inward. Be sure to secure the device so that it does not move. After this, close the central unit and install it in a hard-to-reach place (usually the device is installed behind the dashboard). After this, you need to connect the Starline immobilizer bypass unit according to one of the diagrams.
- Red is a power plus. Connects to a circuit with a voltage of +12V (the ignition must be turned on).
- Black is a minus. Control input (70 mA). When a negative charge is applied to this input, the standard key code is read. The black wire must be connected to the remote start system output.
- Gray (several wires). Depending on the characteristics of the car, their connection diagram differs.
There are several connection schemes, again depending on the characteristics of the elements:
- According to the first scheme, the external loop antenna is mounted on the ignition switch cylinder, after which it is connected to the connector at the end of the gray wire. In this case, it is important to maintain a minimum distance between the standard RF antenna >
- The second diagram is useful if you cannot install a loop antenna due to the design features of the vehicle. In this situation, the antenna is wound from several turns of gray wire and placed on top of the standard antenna on the ignition cylinder. In this case, the distance should also be minimal.
If you want to connect a Starline keyless immobilizer bypass, the circuit will be more complicated. In this case, a combined connection is made. The crawler connects to the data lines and at the same time connects to the CAN bus (it is possible to connect to two at once, cabin and engine). Such keyless methods are most often suitable for Nissan and Kia cars.
Immobilizer lock, what is it?
The immobilizer lock is located directly in the car and verifies wirelessly that its key is in place. In order to prepare the immobilizer lock for use, it is necessary to guarantee power to the control electronics. The first contact must be connected to the terminal that constantly provides the immobilizer with a plus. This must be done using a fuse rated at 5A and the accompanying wire. The second and tenth contacts need to be connected to the ground of the electrical system. The third contact must be connected to the ignition switch in a position that can start the on-board multimedia systems. The eleventh contact of the immobilizer is responsible for connecting to the end contact, which is activated when the door is opened.
General characteristics of the crawler
Starline produces several types of devices that work well with anti-theft systems Starline A91, A93 and others. The most common:
- A transponder (radio response), which is physically located in the head of the key. The chip key has RFID - radio frequency identification tag.
- Electronic control unit (ECU) of the immobilizer - connects the car controller with an antenna and transponder, generates signals for the car controller, receives, decodes and compares the response from the chip with a given code.
- The antenna, most often surrounding the ignition switch. Through it, the interaction between the transponder and the ECU is carried out.
If the codes match, the ban on starting the engine is lifted.
In the simplest system - VR-03, a duplicate key is used for this. In more complex versions of the devices, control is carried out by crawler software, without the need to hide a duplicate chip in the car.
Configuration and functions of lineman elements:
- In VR-03 and analogues, the key with the transponder is placed in the crawler unit. For this purpose, the latter contains an electromagnetic coil of the code reader - a flat antenna, into which the chip key is fixed.
- When autostarting, a signal about a start attempt is sent from the car controller to the relay built into the module (usually made in blue) via the black control wire.
- The relay completes the electrical circuit. Through the remote loop antenna of the lineman, a radio signal from the chip is sent to the immobilizer antenna, which are located next to each other on the ignition switch.
- make it possible to install remote and automatic start of the internal combustion engine on the car;
- ease of installation and operation;
- the operation of security systems is maintained;
- You can use the car if it is not possible to duplicate the key (with software control without a chip).
Disadvantages of devices that bypass the immobilizer:
Systems with direct control of immobilizer functions by the vehicle driver
Making a car lift for a garage with your own hands
The direct participation of a person in protecting a car from opening security systems is by no means the craziest idea. The more automated the control of a car's immobilizer is, the higher the chances of it being hacked using all kinds of scanning equipment.
The most exotic version is the immobilizer, which has a built-in special sensor that can scan and recognize the driver’s fingerprint. The method is quite spectacular and can ensure high reliability of the immobilizer while complying with safety rules and not leaving fingerprints in places accessible to the criminal. Which is not always possible.
Therefore, in some expensive car models, conventional push-button dials are installed, in which the immobilizer function is duplicated by a digital code entered manually by the driver. In this case, there is no need to look for what the immobilizer looks like. But manually selecting a number sequence is very difficult and requires a huge amount of time. In this case, the code in the microcircuit can change each subsequent time the engine is started or parked for a long time with the engine running.
Another type of human participation in implementing the functions of protecting a car from unauthorized intrusion is the use of special wearable or personal keys with a chip. A transponder card or chip can be inserted into a plastic card or wristwatch, or any item of personal belongings, without drawing attention to its existence. The immobilizer control board can control the presence of the key and its contents in the car remotely.
This method has appeared as a response to the well-known method of car theft in the criminal world called “parachute”. Criminals choose the moment when the owner of the car stops for ten seconds after starting to move, for example, at a traffic light or a pedestrian crossing. Next comes a sudden attack on the driver and throwing him out of the car with the engine running. If the device system is working properly, it is impossible to steal a car unless the victim of the attack voluntarily reports or hands over the key, because criminals do not know what the immobilizer transponder looks like and where it is located.
This is how most stolen BMW X5 models were stolen in the Russian Federation. The control key to the car was taken away under the threat of violence, so the immobilizer system itself cannot guarantee successful counteraction to intruders.

Installing the module yourself
Installing the Starline immobilizer bypass does not require knowledge of programming or physical intervention in the security alarm. Only 1 wire is connected from the engine starting module.
Before starting work, disconnect the vehicle's power supply from the battery by removing the terminal.
The electrical connection diagram for the Starline immobilizer crawler will be clear even to novice auto electricians. Only 4 wires need to be connected.
Connect the module's + 12V power supply from the machine's network via the red wire. Management is going on black. 2 gray ones are needed for the antenna.
Most often, the device is installed with your own hands in a car behind the dashboard. You can go the classic route, or you can choose another more unconventional place. It is better that the unit is secured with self-tapping screws to a non-metallic surface in order to reduce the likelihood of shielding and signal interference.
Before installing the device, you need to open it and install a chip key or part of it containing a transponder into the flat antenna. The connection must be reliable, eliminating problems when the machine moves.
The procedure for connecting the crawler:
Keyless crawlers: Fortin, Idatalink, Starline f1, Pandora
The Pandora keyless immobilizer bypass, unlike inexpensive systems, does not require a duplicate key. The device exchanges information with the car via a digital channel, due to which unlocking occurs. The immobilizer crawler for starline F1, Idatalink and others works in a similar way.

How to do it yourself
- Select a dielectric plastic case of a suitable size.
- As the main relay, you can use a 5-pin relay capable of operating in a vehicle network.
- The terminals of its coil must be connected to each other with a 1N4001 diode, so that + 12 volts goes to the cathode of the diode, and minus from the signal to start the internal combustion engine goes to the anode (i.e. in reverse polarity).
- You need to cut 1 of the wires of the standard antenna.
- To the normally closed contact of the relay you need to connect 1 wire from the standard immobilizer coil and 1 end from the crawler antenna.
- The 2nd end of the lineman's antenna is connected to the normally open contact.
To the remaining free contact we connect 2 wires from the standard coil. The chip can be removed from the key and inserted into a homemade crawler antenna, wrapped tightly with electrical tape.
BMW immobilizer repair
BMW immobilizer repair
If the immobilizer malfunctions on any BMW model, the following signs are revealed: the starter does not rotate, the starter rotates, but your BMW does not want to start. These are the first signs of a violation in the BMW immobilizer circuit. To check the working condition of all fuses and the battery, you need to insert a spare key into the ignition switch. If this method does not help, then diagnostics are required to identify the exact causes of the system malfunction.
Reasons for a malfunction of the immobilizer system: if the car was “lighted” when the battery ran out. Also, a malfunction of the BMW immobilizer appears if the ignition key itself is broken and if there is no connection between the BMW immobilizer and the BMW engine control unit (in technical language this term is called EWS-DME desynchronization), also if at least one component in the system circuit has failed.
There are such reasons: part of the program code in the immobilizer unit has been erased (in other words, the key flies off) and sometimes the code in the key itself is erased. Another reason for the immobilizer not working in a BMW is a wiring fault.
Immobilizer from English immobilizer - immobilizer. A BMW car immobilizer is, in simple words, an electronic device that immobilizes the car. The main task of the immobilizer is to stop the car by interrupting the electrical circuit and preventing the car from being stolen. The most critical places that provide power to the car are the starter-ignition-engine components. The immobilizer is responsible for the operation of these vital devices for the car. This is a reliable way to protect against car thieves, even if they get inside.
What does a BMW car immobilizer consist of? The immobilizer consists of:
- immobilizer control unit ews or cas module. The immobilizer control unit is the center of the system, all signals are sent from there
- bmw ignition key
- DME control unit
- electromagnetic relay, which is responsible for breaking the connection of the system's electrical circuit in the event of intruders entering
- for older BMW models the system includes an antenna and a key amplifier
For older BMW models there is an antenna and a key amplifier. The BMW immobilizer antenna is a coil that reads the key chip; it is located on the ignition lock cylinder. The key amplifier is a box located under the steering wheel of the car. It includes the immobilizer antenna.
Owners of BMW cars should contact specialized centers for repairs for serious reasons. There are catalogs with addresses of service centers, where you can easily select bmw car service centers based on the convenience of their location and contact them.
Types of immobilizer faults:
- hardware fault
- software failure
A hardware fault is when one of the circuit elements burns out (a microelement on the board)
A software fault is a malfunction of the software.
Repairs may vary. If you have lost your BMW ignition key or the program code has been erased from the key or from the car's immobilizer, then it is possible to solve this problem. In order to restore the ignition key, you need to provide only the EWS immobilizer control unit to the service center. This is for BMW models E38, E39, E46, X3, X5, X6. For BMW E60, E61, E63, E65, E70, E90 models, you must provide a CAS module. How to replace the filter in the cabin of a Mazda 3, see and read here.
If you need to register a BMW key chip, you need to dismantle the immobilizer unit. In the BMW X5 SUV, this immobilizer unit is screwed to the side wall under the dashboard on the left. To access the EWS, you need to remove the bottom cover above the pedals. In older BMW models, the immobilizer unit is located on the left under the topped, behind the additional glove compartment, to the left of the steering wheel. The CAS module - immobilizer control unit - is used on BMW models E60, E61, E63, E65, E70, E90; it is located under the lower dashboard trim, in the area of the driver's left foot.

Like most systems originating from the Apennine Peninsula, they are distinguished by high quality workmanship and the use of advanced technical solutions. European origin, among other things, indicates the product’s compliance with European norms and standards.
Pros and cons of using immobilizers
After car owners understand the concept and operating principle of immobilizers, they are interested in the advantages and disadvantages of using these protective devices. Among the positive qualities of the immobilizer, the following should be noted:
- Stealth. It is quite difficult to visually determine the presence of an immobilizer in a vehicle. The alarm is designed to scare off robbers and car thieves, and the immobilizer makes theft impossible, since its operating principle is unpredictable for attackers;
- Complete impossibility of blocking the immobilizer. The connection point of its unit can be difficult to find, and its principle of operation is unknown to hijackers;
- Silent operation and high degree of reliability;
- Convenience and ease of use.
One of the disadvantages of using immobilizers is their operation on batteries, which must be replaced periodically in a timely manner, since without them the device becomes absolutely useless. Immobilizers also have a radio channel that is not protected from scanning. The consolation is the fact that the very small range of the device makes reading the code unrealistic.
IMMOBILIZER
What is a standard immobilizer, why is it needed in a car?
The immobilizer is designed to prevent car theft. To effectively protect a car from theft, it is necessary to have several devices in the car that have different purposes, but are combined into one system - a “car security complex”. The security complex includes a radio alarm, a standard immobilizer, mechanical means of protecting the car, such as a steering lock, a mechanical ignition switch, etc. The alarm system reacts to an attempted theft, and the immobilizer blocks the engine, preventing the car from moving under its own power. The immobilizer works by blocking the engine from starting.
Like any electronic equipment, this system sometimes fails. The practice of operating cars with immobilizers shows that sometimes when lighting or draining the battery and replacing it, the program recorded in the engine control unit or immobilizer is destroyed - the synchronization between the engine unit and the immobilizer “flies”. the keys fly off into the immo. In this case, repair of the security system is required. In some cases, when the immobilizer often fails (troubles have been noticed on some Siemens units, etc.), it is recommended to completely remove the standard immobilizer. In all other cases, we recommend repair and full restoration of its functions.
A modern standard immobilizer is a complex electronic device, like other electronic devices in a car, under certain circumstances it can fail. The most dangerous things for the immobilizer are battery drainage, “lighting” the car, and welding work. To avoid having to repair your immobilizer, we recommend monitoring the condition of the battery.
