Car key production, car immobilizer repair

A chip key is an electronic key, part of the vehicle's security system. Most modern car owners probably know what an immobilizer is. This is an electronic anti-theft system that, at the right moment, breaks the electrical circuits in the car (starter, fuel supply, ignition). As a result, theft becomes impossible, even if this anti-theft device is disabled. Only the owner of the vehicle can activate or deactivate this system. Control is carried out using a key, a separate card or key fob, in which an electronic circuit (chip) is installed. Its counterpart is located in the car. Nowadays, manufacturers offer several versions of this popular anti-theft device.

In what cases is a key registration required?

Assigning a new car blocker chip may be required in the following cases:

  1. If the key is damaged. Its malfunction may be due to breakage or wear. Due to malfunctions in the chip, problems will arise with reading the codes by the microprocessor unit.
  2. It was necessary to make a duplicate for other drivers of the vehicle. During manufacturing, a chip is installed in the key, but it is not synchronized with the tag in the control unit.
  3. The control module in the car has been damaged.
  4. The ignition system has failed or is not working correctly (we are talking about the main module).

How to register a new key yourself

To register an immobilizer in a car yourself, you need to use a transponder chip. On many cars this element is called a master key.

Before completing the task, it is recommended to fill the gas tank so that it contains at least 10 liters of fuel.

Universal Guide

A universal guide that allows you to register keys on most modern cars:

  1. All car doors are closed, after which the ignition is activated using the learning key. After this, you must wait at least ten seconds.
  2. The ignition is turned off, and the indicators on the control panel should blink at intervals of 5 seconds. This indicates that the binding procedure is proceeding correctly.
  3. When the ignition is activated, within five seconds you need to remove the learning chip and install a new key. This will allow programming the transponder into the memory of the microprocessor module. The beepper of the car should emit three beeps.
  4. Then you need to wait about six seconds, after which the car's buzzer should emit a double sound pulse. Then the ignition switch is turned off, and the trained key with the chip is removed from the lock. The next element must be programmed immediately.
  5. A new learning key is installed in the switch. The beepper should beep three times, followed by two more beeps six seconds later.
  6. The key is removed from the lock, then a new control element is installed, and the power unit starts. A test drive of the car is done.

User Sergei Sobolevsky talked about how to register a key in a car’s immobilizer.

For blockers with one button

For brokers with one button, we register a new transponder as follows:

  1. All car door locks are locked with a key.
  2. On the control, the primary key is pressed and held. It must be fixed in this state until the diode light bulb stops blinking. If the button is released, the indicator light should light evenly without blinking.
  3. The key is clicked again and the light goes out.
  4. The driver's door opens, the key is installed in the switch, and the button is pressed again.
  5. The ignition is activated. After 10 seconds it must be turned off.
  6. After 5 seconds, the communicator will go into working mode. Information about new keys is stored in the memory of the microprocessor unit.

For Mazda cars

For Mazda cars, the programming procedure is as follows:

  1. All keys are prepared (there should be none in the ignition switch).
  2. All vehicle door locks are locked and the driver's door is opened.
  3. The next step must be completed within 24 seconds. The key in the ignition switch is turned three times from the Lock to On position and back. Then you need to have time to close and open the driver's door three times. You should ensure that the locks deactivate and lock. If you do not have time to do this, the binding procedure is repeated again.
  4. Then you need to double-click on the Lock or Unlock button on the first key with a chip. At this point, you should look closely at the door locks to make sure they are locked and unlocked.
  5. Similar actions are carried out with the second and third keys. When performing a task, you need to make sure that the locks close and open.

If the pairing procedure was completed successfully, the door locks should automatically unlock and lock after programming.

User Savva Dolesov talked about making keys himself, as well as linking them to Mazda cars.

For Nissan cars

For Nissan vehicles, immobilizer key programming will vary depending on the specific model. For example, in Note, for binding you will need a special device - SSB Key Programmer.

The programming procedure for a Nissan Note looks like this:

  1. The plug from the device is installed in the OBD2 diagnostic connector (it is located inside the car).
  2. The equipment starts up. In it you need to select the item “Nissan Japan - Micra March 00 - Gasoline”.
  3. The key is inserted into the ignition switch and the system is activated.
  4. On the device, select the “Nats 5 - Prog New Keys” item.
  5. A four-digit password is entered, which must be specified in the service manual. If it is missing, the PIN code must be checked with the dealer or looked at the BCM sticker.
  6. After specifying the PIN code, all the keys that need to be linked to the microprocessor unit are inserted into the ignition lock. Installation of controls is carried out one by one. Using each key, you must activate and turn off the ignition within five seconds.
  7. After completing the binding procedure, the power unit is started.

For Nissan Almera models, the binding procedure looks like this:

  1. With two keys for control, the driver gets into the car. One of them is installed in the lock and rotated to activate the ignition.
  2. Then you need to quickly turn it off and on six times. The car's turning lights will begin to blink. The key itself should be in the ACC position.
  3. At this moment, on the second key, you need to click on the door lock opening button and quickly press the lock button three times. After the last press, all buttons are released simultaneously.
  4. The previous step is repeated as long as the first key is in the lock. The ignition is activated and switched off. This completes the binding procedure.

For Ford cars

For Ford cars, the procedure is as follows:

  1. For programming, one of the control keys is installed in the ignition switch.
  2. This element rotates in the lock and the ignition is activated. This procedure should be performed four times within six seconds.
  3. The key is turned to the zero position to turn off the ignition. In confirmation, the beeper emits a sound signal, the purpose of which is to confirm the readiness of the microprocessor module to register the remaining keys. The manipulation must be carried out within ten seconds.
  4. A new key is taken and any key is clicked on it. The control unit will emit a beep as confirmation.
  5. A similar operation is carried out with the remaining keys. After pairing each of them, the device should beep. There is no need to remove the key itself from the ignition (this also applies to original devices).
  6. The ignition is activated, the key is set to the second position.

Mini car key review

Hi all. Below the cut is a mini-review of the housing for the Hyundai I30 car key. Please... Today I will tell you how I updated my key))) When buying a car, in addition to the standard central locking, an additional alarm with feedback was immediately installed, and I never used the original lock. But a few years later, for additional security, I began to lock the car with 2 locks (it seems to me that if broken into or read by a grabber, this will complicate the task for thieves). After literally a year of constant use, the buttons on the key began to crumble, which not only looked unaesthetic, but also caused problems with the opening button being activated (seen in the photo).

While sitting at work and doing important things, including browsing Aliexpress, I accidentally came across a lot with a similar key, but for a different car, and I thought, what if I’m lucky and they made such a miracle duplicate for my Korean car. As it turned out, he really is. Without thinking for a second, I made an order, since I didn’t really like the option of buying a new key from an official dealer due to the unreasonably inflated price.

The parcel arrived for about a month and was almost sent back (“thank you” Russian Post mixed up the delivery address).

The key is packed in a white mailing envelope, lined with bubble protection inside and additionally placed in a zip bag. Photo 1 - The key is in the package.

Photo 2 - Set.

Photo 3 - Rear view of the key.

Photo 4 - Old key.

Photo 5 - Disassembled keys before replacing buttons.

Photo 6 - After replacing the buttons.

Photo 7 - Rear view (here you can see why they didn’t disassemble the original key and change the eject button)

The quality is no worse than that of the original key. But there are small differences: the plastic of the case is matte black and the buttons themselves are a little lighter than the original ones, with a grayish tint, but they look harmonious in the original case.

The kit includes a key, one bolt and a sticker (I’m upset that they didn’t include the Hyundai badge), because because of this it was not possible to change the key eject button (I didn’t want to remove the logo forever and leave an empty space there, and it’s impossible to remove it without damage).

But it was very easy to change the buttons (the skillful hands of a man helped me with this) and now my key is almost like new and will serve me in this form for at least a year)))

I'll probably even order one more as a spare. I advise all Hyundai I30 owners who have encountered such a problem to buy it.

PS The seller's description indicates that this key is also suitable for the Hyundai IX35 model.

Thank you for your attention)

Programming Features

It is impossible to give any specific advice on programming transponders. Each car model has differences in both software and safety systems, not to mention the design. Therefore, the keys can differ greatly even between different models of the same manufacturer, and even more so between different ones.

In the most general case, programming a new chip occurs after reading information from the original or from the dashboard. This requires special programs and equipment. Therefore, this is done by specialists who have experience working with different car models.

Therefore, it would seem that such a simple operation - making a second key for the car - today requires turning to specialists. You can't do this on your own.

Reasons why the immobilizer may not accept the original key for the car:

• failure of the vehicle's electronic system; • the car was at sub-zero temperatures for a long time; • voltage drops (battery runs out); • due to the use of an old battery. • key programming is done not only for modern cars, but also for well-known domestic brands.

Programming car keys is a difficult process that requires experience and professional skills. That is why it is recommended to contact specialized companies, where they will approach the solution of the problem professionally and in the shortest possible time. If programming is incorrect, the entire vehicle's electronic system may be blocked.
