The previous version of the truly popular Nissan X-Trail looked like an SUV, but in fact it was a crossover. The new generation, T32, has the same body shape and continues to be misleading: although the car has been updated, it is built on the same units, albeit updated.
In the Russian Federation, the previous version was loved by many car owners and was in great demand. Its comfortable suspension and huge trunk make it an excellent option for long journeys. But this barrel of honey also has a fly in the ointment: its off-road capabilities were very limited, and its handling on asphalt was far from ideal. Over time, the Nissan X-Trail began to lose its leading position, and more successful competitors began to overtake it. A review of this car has been prepared especially for you.
The main features that the new Nissan X-Trail has are frowning headlights, a sloping forehead and sunken sides. Compared to its predecessor, the updated Nissan X-Trail has become significantly larger, although at first glance you couldn’t tell. This is especially felt inside the car: its front panel has become much larger, the central air ducts are shaped in a chrome frame, a glossy black multimedia console has appeared, the steering wheel has acquired a signature shape, and soft linings have appeared on the central tunnel. The fit and quality of the materials used have improved significantly. Separately in the review, we need to highlight the driver’s seat: it has become so soft, it seems that you are sitting in the air.
Internal options
The updated version of the X-Trail now features dual-zone climate control and a heated windshield. Significantly, the rear passenger seats are not heated. This is probably the only thing that can specifically upset passengers in the second row. One of the advantages of the second row is that it is placed higher than the first, and the passengers seem to look down on the world around them; the view from there is incredibly wide. There is enough room to sit down, there is enough space to put your feet. If there is a need to adjust the blower, then you need to try hard to reach it. The central section with options has become quite comfortable, an armrest with many cells. The new version of Nissan can accommodate up to 7 people at a time. However, it should be noted that there will be no official sales of 7-seater versions of this car in Russia: demand is very low.
Trunk
The 5th door of this car is equipped with an electric drive, it can be opened even without any effort. To do this, you just need to move your hand near the sensor located above the license plate. The trunk of the updated Nissan X-Trail has become a little larger: it used to be 479 liters, but now it is 497. However, the previous generation Nissan X-Trail had two drawers, and it was possible to fold the rear seats. Of course, if you fold the backrests, the trunk of the previous version is beyond competition. The new version has a smaller underground space, but now has the ability to insert it into special holes. In this way, you can organize special shelves: horizontal and vertical. The latter, in turn, divides the luggage compartment in half. This is a rather convenient function, as it helps to neatly distribute things into compartments. Also, such shelves prevent the view from being blocked when reversing.
Video
In the third generation, the popular crossover radically changed its image for the sake of marketing. It follows modern trends, there are practically no rough chopped features, and the interior has become much more convenient and comfortable. At the same time, the designers left a lot of room for creativity so that each owner could optimize the car to suit their needs.

Handling and dynamics
It was possible to test it on the lands of an amazing region, the Republic of Karelia. It is impossible to describe its roads: exciting turns, sharp descents and ascents. Cracked asphalt, compacted snow and lumps of ice give us the opportunity to test the car's handling, suspension and drivetrain. The new Nissan X-Trail is not just an updated crossover, it is, as many auto critics say, an all-terrain Qashqai. It is more spacious and safer.
On snowy roads, the X-Trail works best in economy mode. In it, the gas pedal is damped, which makes the response to pressing more careful and smooth. The car is also equipped with an Eco mode, but it is not so easy to find: it is hidden near the headlight washers and the stabilization activation button.
Nissan engineers said that they tried to combine both Chinese softness and European handling in the Russian version of this crossover. The crossover is more pleasant to drive on paved surfaces than its predecessor.
However, the Nissan X-Trail’s suspension is a bit unsuitable for rough terrain and country roads – it’s a bit harsh. On a road with large potholes, the suspension rebounds very loudly, and on small stones it vibrates.
If we take the test car, then literally after a few hours the ceiling began to “walk” due to severe shaking; it was not possible to fix this annoying problem manually. This can be explained by the fact that the production of X-Trail at the plant in the Northern capital of our country began quite recently. No such problems were observed in the other test machine. The car rides much better on studded tires; on them, the noise from the road is not heard so clearly. The manufacturer plans to additionally build in seals between the threshold and the edge of the door so that the latter does not get dirty and increase rear view visibility.
Powertrain of the new X-Trail
The new version of this car is built on the platform of its older brother, but received new power units and an upgraded transmission. Also, the new Nissan X-Trail received 210 mm ground clearance (ground clearance). However, such changes led to some disastrous gains: due to the increased wheelbase and straight front overhang, the car's geometry deteriorated significantly.
On the highway, this crossover holds up well, but sometimes the bumper catches large bumps.
The advantage of the Nissan X-Trail over the Qashqai is the so-called “descent assist assistant”.
It is this that makes it possible to pass icy slopes and snow mounds safely and without changing the trajectory. The manufacturer recommends passing large and dangerous obstacles in the “Lock” mode. Its function is to lock the differential between the wheels: thus, half of the traction is transmitted to the rear axle.
It is difficult to pass obstacles without the modes turned on; this is prevented by a fairly stiff suspension. As soon as the car catches the diagonal hanging, it begins to brake, and if you press on the gas, it begins to engage the drive and driven discs. The rear camera is equipped with washers that automatically remove dirt from it, and the “all-round view” function ensures the most precise maneuvering.
Car power
If we compare the Nissan X-Trail with its closest competitor, namely the Qashqai, there is a faster response to the response of the accelerator and CVT buttons. Acceleration is not as stretched out, although the car is a little heavier; it accelerates to 100 km/h 1.5 seconds faster. It also needs to be said about the required effort on the steering wheel - it has become more precise. The new version of the Nissan X-Trail with a 2.5-liter gasoline engine has become much more powerful - 171 horsepower versus 144.
The operation of the CVT transmission has become more stable and faster, the car has become more responsive to pressing the gas pedal. The updated suspension has become softer, and the configuration of the car has become more dense. In general, the new X-Trail has become seamless. The difference between the chassis of the new and old Nissan is small, as is the engine consumption: now 11 liters of 92 gasoline are enough for a 2.5-liter engine at 100 km/h. Refueling with such fuel became possible only due to the engine with distributed injection.
In the previous version of the X-Trail, the diesel version was equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the gasoline versions had a CVT. The new version of the crossover with a diesel engine now comes only with a six-speed manual. Models with a variator equipped with a reinforced plate are also produced, but there are no plans to officially sell such versions in Russia.
The volume of the updated diesel engine is very modest by crossover standards, 1.6 liters with a power of 150 horsepower. The maximum torque has not changed: it remains the same as 320 Newton meters. It should be noted that the new X-Trail has become a little faster and more ergonomic, shorter, and increased visibility from the windshield.
The engineers managed to both complement the Nissan and recreate a new version of the X-Trail almost from scratch. The updated car began to look more modern and became more comfortable. However, it should also be noted that he has lost his individuality. In defense, we can only say that it fully meets all the requirements of city residents for crossovers. First of all, X-Trail will be loved by those for whom constant forays into the countryside or nature are the norm.

(3rd generation) is based on the modular CMF platform, which is a modern variation of the Nissan C platform. Most of the car’s body elements are made of high-strength steel, which significantly reduces the total weight of the structure. The curb weight of the crossover, depending on the modification, varies in the range of 1525-1675 kg.
The Russian specification of the Nissan X-Trail provides for the presence of three power units: two naturally aspirated gasoline engines with a volume of 2.0 and 2.5 liters (144 and 171 hp, respectively), as well as a 1.6 dCi turbocharged diesel engine with an output of 130 hp. (320 Nm). Both gasoline engines were installed on the previous generation (X-Trail T31), but during the crossover update they were modernized, resulting in a slight increase in power. The engine can be paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or an XTronic CVT, which emulates seven ranges. Along with the front-wheel drive layout, all-wheel drive with an intelligent All Mode 4×4-i all-wheel drive system is provided.
The all-terrain vehicle's suspension is a design with front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link, and each modification has its own chassis settings. The basic trunk volume of the car is limited to 497 liters (with five seats), the maximum – 1585 liters (configuration with two front passengers and folded rear seatbacks).
The fuel consumption of the Nissan X-Trail T32 with a 2.0 engine is 7.1-11.2 liters, depending on the modification and driving mode. An all-wheel drive crossover with a 2.5 engine burns on average about 8.3 liters of fuel. The diesel X-Trail is the most economical - consumption of no more than 5.3 liters of diesel fuel per 100 km in a mixed driving cycle.

Released generations
The famous Japanese crossover Nissan X-Trail has gained considerable popularity in Russia; it is characterized by high reliability, excellent technical characteristics, and exquisite design.
During the production of the brand, three generations have changed; the very first cars were first produced in their homeland, in Japan.
The history of Ixtrail begins in September 2000, when the car was shown at the Paris Motor Show.
The 1st generation Nissan X Trail in the T30 body is based on the Nissan FF-S platform; from the very beginning of its production, the model was produced in 4x4 versions and with front-wheel drive.
The second generation Ixtrail T31 was first presented in Geneva in 2007, and the basis of this car was the Nissan C platform.
The third version of the crossover appeared in the fall of 2013, and in December of the same year the car began to be sold in Japan.
The new car in the T32 body is based on the Nissan CMF; assembly of this model is carried out in many countries around the world, including the Russian Federation.
Nissan X-Trail T32 Russian assembly
The “Japanese” is produced at the Nissan plant, built in St. Petersburg, the first Ixtrail in Russia rolled off the assembly line in November 2009, and the factory workers began production of the 3rd generation in December 2014.
A car in the T32 body is offered to Russians:
- in seven trim levels;
- in versions with all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive;
- with two petrol and one diesel engines;
- with mechanical 6-speed Gearbox and variator (CVT).
Nissan Qashqai and Ixtrail in the latest versions are often compared with each other, since the models are similar in many ways, and from a distance they can even be confused.
But in previous generations, the cars were completely different in design, and they had few common parts.
The new Nissan X Trail 3 is larger than the Qashqai, it is longer, taller and wider, and has a 76 mm longer wheelbase.
But not only is the crossover good for its large size, it is also presented in a fairly rich equipment, and on its “board” even in the base there are many different options.
Owner reviews about T30 fuel consumption
A reliable and comfortable car is equipped with power units of different power to operate on gasoline and diesel fuel. The motors work in conjunction with a manual transmission, automatic transmission or CVT. Fuel consumption depends on many factors, the operating conditions of the machine, its configuration, and the type of fuel used.
Engine 2.0 140 hp
- Sergey, Vsevolozhsk. I have owned the car for more than 5 years. I bought a used one from an ad. I'm happy with the car, there have been no reasons for disappointment so far. The dynamics for travel in urban conditions are acceptable, the cross-country ability for country roads is rather weak, since only front-wheel drive is available. Consumes fuel approximately 11-12 liters per hundred km.
- Nikolay, Yekaterinburg. I bought a 2003 car from a car dealership after a detailed inspection and a test drive. All scheduled maintenance was performed at the dealer. Front-wheel drive, the gearbox works flawlessly, and handling is good on any road. Consumption for a 140 horsepower engine is on average about 13 liters. per 100 km. I would like a slightly stronger engine for such a car.
- Vladimir, Komsomolsk-on-Amur. I purchased a 2006 X-Trail from an ad with about 80 thousand km on the clock. Power unit with a volume of 2.0 liters, all-wheel drive, air conditioning. I'm happy with the purchase, there are no complaints about the car yet, everything works as it should. I travel in urban areas, go to the country and go fishing with friends. Average fuel consumption is 11 liters.
Engine 2.2 diesel 114 hp
- Nikolay, St. Petersburg. Impressions from the car are good, but there are a few comments. The car body has significant aerodynamic resistance. Therefore, 114 horses is not enough for him. There is enough power when driving on bad roads. The manual transmission does not cause any complaints after the car has driven more than 100 thousand km. Fuel consumption is also acceptable, even when traveling in “difficult” conditions, it was not more than 10 liters per 100 km.
- Anatoly, Krasnoyarsk region. I bought the car new in 2002. Today the mileage is already more than 80 thousand km. The operating conditions for the Nissan can’t be called easy, but there are no complaints. I trusted maintenance only to specialists; there were no unit failures, only scheduled maintenance. All-wheel drive copes with roads of any quality. Consumption is approximately 9-10 liters, but in difficult conditions it sometimes reached 13 liters per hundred.
Gasoline engine 2.5 l. 165 hp
- Stepan, Murmansk. I bought a used car with all-wheel drive. Trips are made in a variety of conditions. That's why I chose one with all drive wheels. There is a lot of snow in our area, but we didn’t have to stand in drifts. There was a minor problem with the machine; oil leakage was noticed. The auto center specialists have fixed it and there are no more comments. Consumables are changed and scheduled maintenance is carried out. Fuel consumption is approximately 13 liters, sometimes a little more.
- Gregory, Moscow. The 2001 Nissan X-Trail has enough power for good dynamics. True, it is rarely used in city traffic jams, but outside the city it behaves quite well. In the future, on a car of this level, I would like to see more comfort and fewer plastic parts in the body trim. Consumption sometimes reached 15 liters. per 100 km, which is quite consistent with my driving style.
Engines and transmission
The crossover's line of power units includes two gasoline internal combustion engines:
- QR25DE, 2.5 l, 171 l. With.;
- MR20DD, 2.0 l 144 l. With.
Both engines are 4-cylinder, 16-valve, injection. When driving around the city, there is no big difference in the volume of the internal combustion engine, cars with both engines start equally vigorously, the dynamics are good and smooth.
Diesel Nissan X Trail - 1.6 liter, Y9M model, turbocharged, 130 hp. s., four-cylinder in-line.
By the way, the diesel engine is only paired with a manual gearbox with all-wheel drive; the 2.5 liter QR25DE internal combustion engine is equipped with a CVT, also with a 4x4 transmission.
The MR20DD engine is available in all variants: manual transmission and CVT, 2WD and 4WD.
The Nissan X Trail CVT received seven virtual gears, and the driver now has the ability to manually brake with the engine.
X-Tronic works on the principle of a classic torque converter automatic transmission - when accelerating and switching to another, higher gear, it drops the speed slightly.
Price and options
There are a huge number of configurations, which can be seen in the table. The starting price tag of the car has practically not changed; for the XE package you need to pay 1,601,000 rubles, receiving the following equipment:
- 2-liter engine with manual transmission;
- Cruise control;
- heated front seats;
- emergency braking assistance;
- ESP stabilization system;
- motion trajectory control;
- LED daytime running lights;
- mechanical seat adjustments;
- audio system with 4 speakers.
The most expensive equipment with a 2.5-liter engine costs 2,191,000 rubles, adding:
- heated rear seats;
- lane control;
- monitoring of blind spots;
- automatic parking system;
- all-round view;
- rear view camera;
- keyless entry;
- electric trunk lid;
- audio system with 6 speakers;
- 19-inch wheels;
- leather interior;
- sunroof with panorama;
- electrically adjustable seats;
- LED headlights;
- fog lights;
- navigation system.
Well, the restyled Nissan X-Trail T32 has not changed much, it has simply become more in line with its modern competitors. You shouldn’t switch to it from, but if you have previous generations, then you can, you definitely won’t regret it.
Trunk and interior
Compared to the previous generation T31, the Nissan X Trail T32 has increased in size, and the trunk has accordingly grown in size; its volume in the new model is 497 liters.
The second-row seats move forward and backward and the backrests recline, which can increase the luggage area slightly.
The rear door is equipped with an electric drive for opening the lock (hands-free system); the luggage compartment has two shelves that allow you to place cargo in two tiers.
The Hands-Free system works this way: if the owner of the car has the car key in his pocket, all he has to do is put his hand to the trunk lock, and the electric drive will work and the door will open automatically.
On the rear sofa, passengers should not feel cramped: there is so much space in the back that even a person two meters tall will have a small space above their head, and their knees will not rest against the front seat.
There is no tunnel in the middle of the rear floor, and all three rear passengers are equally comfortable.
The finishing in the car's interior does not cause any complaints: the assembly is of high quality, the materials used are of good quality. The doors open to an angle of 77 degrees, which ensures comfortable entry and exit of passengers.
Salon
All owners note the pleasant leather inside the car and high-quality assembly. Well, there will be no leather in the base, and the fabric is not so nice. The interior architecture has not changed much, just some little things.
The front seats are heated and look slightly sporty due to their slight lateral support. The rear sofa is just as comfortable with a folding armrest. There is also a third row of seats for two passengers. There are cup holders installed there, but there’s no need to talk about free space at all - there’s a minimum of it in the back, in line with the rest of the rows.
Trim colors:
- black perforated leather;
- beige perforated leather;
- black fabric.
The pilot of the Nissan X-Trail 2018-2019 gets a 3-spoke D-shaped steering wheel with chrome lines and buttons. The steering wheel is adjustable for reach and height. The instrument panel is equipped with two recessed wells into which the speedometer and tachometer are integrated. In the center is a 5-inch information display of the on-board computer with 12 information modes.
The center console is made of glossy plastic. In the center there is a 7-inch multimedia touch display with Yandex Auto, which supports all the functions available to a regular smartphone, that is, at least you will have a navigator. There are buttons and washers inserted around it for quick adjustment of the most important functions. Below is a climate control settings block with 9 buttons, two washers and one monitor to display the selected settings.
The tunnel initially received an electronic parking brake button - not the most convenient location; it is usually placed after the gearshift lever. Here, behind the lever below, cup holders are inserted and at the end of all this we see the all-wheel drive and heated seat adjustment puck.
A panoramic sunroof is an optional treat.
Access to the trunk is electrically driven, and the floor of the compartment is lined with pile. The trunk volume is 565 liters, but this is with the third row of the Nissan X-Trail T32 folded. With all the rear seats folded down, you get 1,996 liters of volume.
Nissan X Trail specifications
The Russian-assembled Ixtrail T32 has very good off-road qualities even in the 4x2 version; good cross-country ability is ensured thanks to a ground clearance of 210 mm.
The car has a classic crossover suspension: MacPherson strut at the front and a multi-link design at the rear axle.
The car is equipped with all disc brakes, an ABS anti-lock braking system and an EBD brake distributor.
On the T32, depending on the configuration, 17th and 18th wheel rims are installed, and the steering system provides the ability to change the steering force.
The wheelbase is 2705 mm, the curb weight depends on the modification of the crossover, and ranges from 1445 to 1637 kg.
The maximum permissible weight of a loaded vehicle is 2130 kg, the vehicle’s carrying capacity is 435 kg.
The length of the new Nissan X Trail is 4640 and 1820 mm width, the height is measured in two values: with roof rails it is 1715 mm, without roof rails it is 1700 mm.
Nissan X-Trail fuel consumption may vary depending on the type of transmission, engine, wheel drive (2WD or 4WD).
In the basic 4x2 version with the MR20DD internal combustion engine and manual transmission 6, the car consumes per 100 km:
- in the city - 11.2 l;
- on the highway - 7.3 l;
- in mixed mode highway/city – 8.6 liters.
According to the passport data, fuel consumption does not exceed 11.3 liters (12.5 liters CVT), the minimum consumption per “hundred” is 4.8 liters – on the highway for a car with a diesel engine and a “mechanics”.
Crossover chassis
The restyled car is built on a modernized Common Modular Family platform with front wheels and semi-independent suspension at the rear. The driving experience is at the same level.
The electric power steering of the Nissan X-Trail 2018-2019 changes its gear ratios depending on the driving style. The steering wheel has become heavier, in fact this is a setting for Russian drivers, they love this, because I think that the car clings to the road.
All-round disc brakes with ABS and front ventilation. The suspension is not designed for off-road use, although it has some systems. After all, this is a city car, but it can handle light off-road conditions.
It doesn’t really concern the suspension, but it needs to be said. The car is equipped with a package of Intelligent Mobility security systems: a parking assistance system that analyzes the situation around it through cameras; cameras analyze the situation when driving in reverse, and also control the distance in front, independently applying the brakes if necessary.
Nissan X Trail configuration
In total, the Russian-assembled Ixtrail is available in seven trim levels, the simplest of which is the XE version.
The basic version includes:
- heated windshield, mirrors and front seats;
- six airbags;
- ABS, EBA and EBD systems that increase braking efficiency;
- driver assistance systems HHC, HDC, ESP;
- electric drives for all windows and side mirrors;
- four-speaker audio system with MP3 support, CD player and steering wheel controls;
- on-board computer;
- immobilizer with central locking;
- (dual zone).
Already in the base, the car is equipped with R17 alloy wheels and a full-size spare wheel.
The maximum configuration is LE Urban+, in this version the additional options are significantly expanded, there is keyless entry, leather interior, front fog lights, parking/rain/light sensors, all-round visibility system.
The “charged” version of the X-Trail has 6 speakers, 18-radius alloy wheels, and an electrically operated panoramic roof; the engine starts with a button.
Children's sores Nissan X-Trail T32 (2013 - 2020, restyling 2017 - present).
So, before us is the most criticized generation of Nissan X-trail, that is, the third and, at the moment, the last, and already presented in a light restyling. Something has changed, but something remains the same. The public was initially biased towards the new generation because of its completely different appearance. I often see comments like: “The T31 is better than the T32, because the 31 is completely different from the Nissan Qashqai.” It turns out that the latest X-trail has lost its individuality (that is, “brutality”), and is now confused with the cheaper Qashqai, which is not prestigious for many Russians. But the demand for crossovers is increasing every day, and the Nissan brand does not want to be an outsider, which can be seen in their model range. Nissan has a crossover of every size and for every taste.
Personally, I like the T32 more than the T31. He looks more solid, larger. For rear passengers, legroom was increased, thereby reducing the trunk. Now the X-trail boasts modern options, displays, and technologies. The front “torpedo” has become younger and has kept up with the times, and not as before, as if it was borrowed from cars from the 80s. As for the “sores”, the T32 inherited something from its predecessor, acquired its own, but some things were fixed, for example, the trunk door is now plastic, it was rusty on the previous body. We’ll talk about the sores a little later, now let’s go over the technical part and the filling.
Gasoline engines have added some power. 2.0 l began to produce 145 l. s, and 2.5 l - 172 horsepower. Acceleration of the first to 100 km/h takes 11.9 seconds, combined fuel consumption is 9.6 liters per 100 km, for the second, respectively, 10.4 to the first hundred and 11 liters per hundred kilometers. The power of the “turbo diesel” has dropped to a modest 130 “horses”, the volume is now 1.6 liters, acceleration to 100 km/h in 11 seconds, and the combined consumption is 6 liters. A six-speed manual transmission is available for front-wheel drive or diesel cars; in other cases, only a CVT is available. The traditional machine gun is no longer available in any modification. The all-wheel drive scheme is the same - the rear axle is engaged through the clutch automatically or forcibly (works up to 40 km/h) using a button in the cabin. Impressive ground clearance for a crossover – 210 mm. But do not forget about the large overhang of the front bumper, which will reduce the approach angle, but imitation of the differential lock will help level the situation, because it works perfectly.
Basic equipment: dual-zone climate control, electric. heated windshield, 6 airbags, el. heated and folding mirrors, stability control, cruise control, heated front seats, audio system with Bluetooth and USB-AUX.
In the maximum configuration (plus the basic one): leather interior with heated all seats and steering wheel, light and rain sensor, a package of safety options (lane keeping, blind spots, driver fatigue, automatic parking), LED optics, panoramic roof, electric . tailgate drive (hands-free), keyless entry, all-round cameras, navigation system, el. seat drive.
Weaknesses of the third generation Nissan Xtrail or what to look for when buying a used one.
You can read about the problems with the transmission and engines (it’s not a fact that they will appear, but it’s worth reading) in its predecessor, since the T32 is built on the same units. Here I tried to collect the problems of the last body.
Electrics | |
at sub-zero temperatures it is impossible to adjust the climate control temperature (it blows very hotly, even at 16 degrees) - incorrect operation of the climate control control unit (RF assembly) | replace the control unit from a new revision, the Nissan company does not see a problem in this and denies the warranty, even in restyling the problem was not solved, only a few cases of the unit being replaced under warranty have been recorded, this problem occurs on almost every car |
The steering wheel icon is on, 4WD error, climate control does not turn on or turns on by itself - poor wiring contact | re-soldering of all “CAN bus” connectors, from 2020 a new “CAN module” block |
error - “the key system is faulty or the key code is incorrect” | - change the battery in the key — do not keep the alarm key fob together with the standard key (a system conflict is possible) — if you need to start the car, hold the key to the “start-stop” button - if all else fails, solder the CAN bus connectors |
creaking of the steering wheel when rotating (in cold weather) - poor-quality rubber (between the shaft and the body) of the steering “cardan” | replace the rubber band with a modernized one or lubricate the gap between the rubber band and the steering column (with oil, lithol) |
The paint on the steering wheel wears off quickly | paint or reupholster |
Suspension | |
creaking of front shock absorbers on uneven surfaces (usually at sub-zero temperatures) – strut bumpers pop out of their regular places | lower the bumpers down the rod and lubricate them (litol, silicone) or install modified ones |
The Nissan emblems on the radiator grille and tailgate are constantly peeling off | It’s better to touch it up than to replace it under warranty |
a gap forms between the windshield and the trim under the wipers | glue the cover onto the “adhesive-sealant” |
"cricket" in the trunk door | lubricate the trunk lock, wrap electrical tape around the lock bracket |
The bolts under the chrome trim on the tailgate are rusting | replace bolts with clips |
gap between the front bumper and the headlight - over time the bumper sags and bends the fasteners, as it is heavy | eliminate at the office dealer or make fastenings from a turner (drawings are on the X-trail club, author -yarovoy) |
Engine (diesel) | |
if the particulate filter becomes clogged and does not clean itself, pay attention to the quality of the diesel fuel | clean or “cut” by placing decoys |
does not start (starts poorly) in cool weather, error in the “start-stop” system - check the glow plugs and the operation of their control unit, check the charge level of the battery and generator | replace: spark plugs, battery, spark plug control unit, repair generator |
Transmission (diesel) | |
Reverse gear “flies out”, manual transmission | replace gears or claim under warranty |
As you can see, the main problems are savings. The problem is the poor quality of components, and not the assembly of the car under St. Petersburg. This is understandable, a spacious and well-equipped car, cheaper than the “Koreans”. The manufacturer has to save money and subsequently, this affects the reputation of the brand. It feels like the Nissan X Trail is a set of compromises. And, with each new generation, these compromises become more numerous. If you are periodically ready to run around the car with a can of silicone lubricant and control the “automatic” climate control manually, you can consider purchasing the Ixtrail T32. If you manage to purchase a car under warranty, then “almost” all problems will be solved by the dealer, if, of course, you can prove to him that your case is under warranty.
But, before purchasing, be sure to diagnose the variator, and after purchase, immediately change the oil in it (every 40 thousand km). Perhaps the T32 will have new problems; the model is relatively new on the Russian market, so don’t hesitate to add more.
Many fans of SUVs believe that a car should, with its brutal appearance, resemble a huge wardrobe on wheels. Therefore, they disdain the glamorous and pretentious exterior solutions of modern crossovers. All of them will probably be unpleasant to learn that another famous representative of purely men's cars has fallen victim to marketing moves. The birth of the new (third) generation Nissan X-Trail T32 is accompanied by a radical change in image. Fans of chopped lines and ascetic archaism have nothing more to do behind the wheel of this “Japanese”. From now on, it will be a typical representative of the type of crossover that is usually classified as the premium segment. By the way, for the US market the car is called Nissan Rogue.
A bad feeling among adherents of the old look of the Nissan X-Trail, which by this time had gone through two generations and one restyling, should have appeared back in 2012, when the Japanese showed their Hi-Cross concept crossover at the Geneva Motor Show.
At the same time, Nissan representatives voiced their desire to give all their models similarity and corporate recognition. This suggested the idea that it is unlikely that the expensive and luxurious Nissan Pathfinder or, especially, the Nissan Murano will be modified, adjusting their appearance to the canons of the old-fashioned appearance of the Nissan X-Trail. And all the fears were confirmed at the presentation of the third generation of the X-Trail in Frankfurt, because the new product turned out to be a spacious, comfortable and very modern-looking crossover.
Reviews from owners of the X-trail T31 generation
The next modernization of the car of this model affected many components and assemblies, which affected the reliability of the vehicle. Comfort and reduced fuel consumption. Power units are installed in different capacities, with manual, automatic, variator, running on gasoline and diesel fuel.
With 2.0 engine
- Anatoly, Kirov. I purchased a Japanese SUV at the end of 2008 from a car dealership. I operate the car in a variety of conditions, in snow, ice, off-road. I often go fishing and hunting. Sometimes the car's ground clearance caused criticism; I would like to see it a little more. There were minor problems, the headlights burned out, the tires got punctured, but overall I’m happy with the purchase. I burned about 13 liters of fuel per 100 km.
- Nikolay, Vologda. This is already the second Nissan car, I'm happy with the purchase. I purchased the X Trail in 2010; it already had about 100 thousand kilometers. I have also owned about 100 thousand km, no complaints. I do almost all the maintenance myself; I also purchase and change consumables myself. The suspension is soft, the variator works flawlessly, and over the entire period of owning the car, consumption did not exceed 13 liters.
With 2.5 liter engine
- Oleg, Tula. It was released by the factory in 2009 and in the same year it became mine. The car has all-wheel drive and the engine has a CVT. I trust all maintenance work only to specialists. Consumption on average fluctuates around 13 liters per 100 km, but it can be less or more, it depends on road conditions and my mood.
- Peter, Arkhangelsk. I bought this SUV because I often travel outside the city, where I need all-wheel drive. The engine is coupled with a CVT, which is not very good for me. There were several occasions when it got very hot when driving in severe off-road conditions. Operating conditions forced me to increase the ground clearance by installing additional spacers. Consumption is within 14-15 liters, which is quite consistent with my driving style.
- Sergey, Ukhta. I took the car from my hands, according to the advertisement. The mileage was around 100 thousand km. The operating conditions in my area cannot be called easy. All-wheel drive is a necessity, not a luxury. Everything is fine, but sometimes I criticize the variator, which heats up during long-term operation in difficult conditions. I burn 13-14 liters of fuel per hundred, which is quite acceptable for me.
Appearance of the third generation X-Trail
It is enough to look at the new product from the front to understand that the fashionable, slightly squinted headlights, decorated with LED strips of running lights, a V-shaped radiator grille with the Nissan logo and a massive bumper with a hood have completely changed the previously familiar rustic look of this car and given it charisma and impudence.
In profile, the car looks expensive due to the perfectly drawn monumental wheel arches, stylish alloy wheels, stamped muscular wings and the resulting visual sensation of wavy and convex body silhouette. The rear is typical for crossovers: a laconic bumper, a dominant tailgate in appearance and a stylish spoiler and LED side lights. They promise to increase the number of body color options to eight.
The X-Trail SUV of the 2015 model year was created based on the Japanese-French Common Module Family platform.
Its dimensions:
- length - 4640 mm;
- width - 1820 mm;
- height - 1715 mm;
- wheelbase - 2705 mm;
- ground clearance - 210 mm;
- the distance between the wheels is 1575 mm.
The designers managed to make the third generation of this “Japanese” look more compact than the second. But in fact, the car has become longer by as much as 75 mm, wider by 30 mm and taller by 15 mm.
Interior of the new X-Trail 2020
It is enough to climb inside the third generation Nissan X-Trail to understand: the compact appearance of the body is just a design ploy.
The interior of the crossover is truly spacious! Moving up to the more expensive car class, the new X-Trail looks like an Infiniti inside. From him he took many design solutions and higher quality and more expensive finishing materials. The center console is decorated with a touchscreen display of the Nissan Connect multimedia system. Next to the multifunctional steering wheel there is a dashboard, which also has a screen, although it is no longer touch-sensitive and is only five 5-inches in size, but it copes with the function of bringing to the attention of the driver all the information coming from the on-board computer.
There is already a lot of space in the cabin, but the designers also took care to give the rear row of seats mobility. It can be moved forward or backward depending on the need to increase the trunk or interior. The backrest tilt is also adjustable. It is planned that one of the options will offer the buyer to purchase the 2020 Nissan X-Trail crossover with an additional third (child) row of seats, which will make it a seven-seater. The panoramic roof, already familiar from the previous generation of this SUV, gives the interior a special charm. Nissan intends to release the new crossover with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive in the form of a plug-in ALL MODE 4×4 system. The platform used is based on an independent suspension with front MacPherson struts and a multi-link rear.
The power steering will be electric, and the brakes will be disc, both front and rear. The car is equipped with all modern active safety systems and the highest level of passive ones. Having an obedient steering wheel and a dense, even stiff suspension, the crossover has no danger of heeling when turning and is not susceptible, despite the high body, to windage in a side wind. Noise and sound insulation of the interior of the body is at a high level, because the model must confirm its claims to the premium segment.
2020 Nissan X-Trail T32 Engine Options:
- A 1.6-liter 130-horsepower diesel engine accelerates the car to hundreds in 11 seconds, provides a maximum speed of 186 km/h and consumes 5.3 liters of fuel in the average driving cycle.
- 2-liter 144-horsepower gasoline engine with acceleration to hundreds in 11.1 seconds, the ability to reach a speed of 183 km/h, and fuel consumption in mixed mode at 8.3 liters.
- A 2.5-liter 171-horsepower gasoline engine accelerates to 100 mph in 10.5 seconds and a top speed of 190 km/h, with the same 8.3 liters of fuel consumption in mixed driving mode.
Transmissions will be six-speed, both automatic and manual.
Driver reviews about the consumption of the T32 generation
The next modernization was also aimed at improving all technical characteristics of the car. The designers managed to achieve improved comfort in the car, its handling, and efficiency.
With 2.0 MT engine
- Egor, Vsevolozhsk. I bought Xtrail in St. Petersburg at a car dealership. I liked everything about it. After getting acquainted with it and testing it on the road, there was no longer any doubt about the correctness of the choice. Powerful engine, all-wheel drive, excellent handling. During the warranty period, I trusted only specialists to carry out scheduled maintenance work; now I do it myself. Fuel consumption is approximately 10-11 liters. per hundred.
- Grigory, Irkutsk. I often go hunting and fishing, so I was definitely determined to buy an SUV with all-wheel drive. I was pleased with the choice, no complaints so far. In winter, sometimes there are problems with clearance on snowy roads, just in case I take a shovel with me. The mileage is more than 50 thousand km, only scheduled maintenance work was carried out. Consumption, depending on travel conditions, is in the range of 10-13 liters.
2.0 CVT 2WD front wheel drive
- Vladimir, Stavropol. We don’t have “steep” winters, so for such conditions the car is suitable in all respects. I purchased an X-Trail with a two-liter engine producing 140 horsepower. Some owners are offended by the CVT, but I am quite happy with it. With front-wheel drive, I try not to go too far off-road. Fuel consumption is up to about 10 liters.
- Stepan, Smolensk. I learned this car from a friend who sometimes let me drive it. Therefore, there was no particular hesitation when choosing a car. I bought a new car, so I’m afraid to service it myself; I trust the work to specialists. The variator works fine, I try to avoid extreme operating conditions. Fuel consumption is within reasonable limits for this type of car. Its indicator does not exceed 9 liters.
2.0 CVT 4WD
- Mikhail, Chelyabinsk. Most of the trips take place outside of large populated areas, so I was looking for an SUV with all-wheel drive. I had a chance to try Ixtrail in a variety of conditions, in the city, on the highway, in the snow. The engine copes well, although sometimes the CVT gets overheated. If the car is not overloaded, it is easy to get out of any track. Consumption did not exceed 12 liters.
- Stepan, Kemerovo region. There were problems when driving on bad roads. I think that for such conditions a variator is not quite what is required. I try to avoid such roads as much as possible. Overall the car is good, comfortable and controllable. Looks decent in traffic. Consumes approximately 12-13 liters. per 100 km.
2.5 CVT 4WD
- Evgeniy, Chelyabinsk region. For trips in our area I was looking for an SUV with all-wheel drive. The 2.5-liter engine with a power of 170 horsepower behaves with dignity in any operating conditions of the vehicle. I regret that a variator is installed, sometimes it gets hot. I try not to force him in difficult road conditions. Fuel consumption is within 13 liters, which suits me. I service it myself and there have been no major breakdowns.
- Victor, Kaluga. I was the owner of a first-generation Nissan, so when choosing my next car, I didn’t particularly hesitate in choosing the model. The previous model was only with front-wheel drive, which did not suit me. I chose an SUV with all-wheel drive and a powerful engine. I haven’t tried driving off-road yet, there’s still more to come. I trust the service to specialists; I have never had any problems with the car. Fuel consumption is moderate. Approximately 12 l.
1.6 MT diesel 4WD
- Evgenia, Moscow region. I asked the car dealership specialists to choose the most economical x-Trail, they advised with a volume of 1.6 liters. Servicing it at dealers is a bit expensive, but the consumption is low, about 7-8 liters per hundred kilometers. It was easy to install child seats, I travel both around the city and in the countryside to visit my parents.
- Victor, Podolsk. Previously, it was not necessary to own vehicles from Japan. I am very pleased with the purchase, I had to travel in the city and outside the city. If you do not practice aggressive driving, the engine power is quite enough, but sometimes when overtaking it is not enough. Under the most difficult operating conditions, fuel consumption was no more than 12 liters.
