FUEL PUMP RELAY FORD MONDEO III BWY STATION

Replacing the fuel pump on Ford Mondeo 3 and 4

The gasoline pump module is one of the most important components of any car. Ford Mondeo 3 and 4 are no exception. Incorrect operation, partial or complete failure foreshadows the emergence of a number of problems: increased fuel consumption, inability to start the power unit, etc. In this article we will talk about how to perform a thorough diagnosis, repair and replacement of the fuel module. Consider the situation with diesel cars and gasoline vehicles.

Underhood fuse module

The first fuse box for Ford Focus 2 is located near the driver's fender under the hood, near the battery. To check or replace the PCB, you need to remove the cover and use tweezers attached to its reverse side. Relays and large fuses can be reached by hand.

On the inside there is a diagram of the location of the PP. It fades over time, in which case you can print a new one and attach it to the lid.

Regulations for replacing the fuel pump: reasons and prerequisites

The gasoline supply system is influenced by a large number of both external and internal factors. Relatively poor fuel quality, the presence of hard rocks and fractions in the fuel tank - all this and much more reduce the actual life of the pump by several times. Roughly speaking, replacement or repair should be carried out when there is no constant pressure in the system or the pump simply stops working. Below are a few main signs of breakdown that have the greatest frequency of occurrence:

  • You turn the key in the lock, but nothing happens. The engine does not start due to no fuel getting into it. It is noteworthy that the operation of the electric fuel drive can be clearly heard when the engine is not running. If, after turning the key, the pump makes a characteristic sound, then the problem is probably in the contacts on the pump connectors or in a blockage.
  • If the fuel system does not have enough pressure within the system, the engine will start and even run. In this case, at high speeds or during heavy traffic, power drops will be observed. In some cases, the car may stall. On the other hand, the car will behave absolutely adequately at idle.
  • If you managed to start the engine and drive a certain distance, but something is bothering you, check the gas tank. If strange sounds are heard from there, the pump must be replaced as soon as possible. Why do we say that replacement needs to be done as soon as possible? The fact is that if the unit continues to work with a faulty element, this affects the entire mechanism.

Less common, but still reasons for replacement, are the following: replacing the fuel pressure sensor, as well as the coarse filter.

In-cabinet mounting block PP

In Ford Focus 2, the internal fuse module is located on the passenger side under the glove compartment (glove compartment). In cars manufactured from 2004 to 2007 (pre-styling), to check and replace the PP, you need to pull the latches and remove the top cover. There is a lock there, by turning which you can lower the entire module.

Where is the fuel pump: navigation for beginners

Many drivers find it difficult to find this element of the fuel unit. It is logical that its location is in close proximity to the main unit - the fuel tank. More precisely, the pump is located directly in it. Next to it is another element of the system - the fuel level sensor.

Important! If you are forced to dismantle the pump, you have to perform two operations: drain the fuel and reduce the pressure in the system. This advice is universal for any work on the fuel system. Remember that any work on the fuel system is carried out with an empty tank and normalized pressure.

What if the fuel pump doesn't work?

Let us repeat that the fuel supply pump does not like counterfeit gasoline and does not forgive the driver’s negligence. Dismantling of old electric fuel pumps showed that most of the units failed due to clogging of the fine filter, which causes overheating of the device, followed by breakdown of the fuel pump. In such a situation, only repair or replacement of this element will allow the normal operation of the car to continue.

By the way, it is unlikely that you will be able to disassemble and repair the pump yourself without certain skills and understanding of how it works. Therefore, in order not to overpay again, you should take the faulty device to a specialized repair shop.

Choosing a fuel pump: analogues or originals?

Choosing a fuel pump is a purely individual matter. Here everything largely depends on the financial capabilities of the car owner and his attitude towards Chinese or European parts. It is safe to say that the Ford Mondeo will work perfectly with both the Chinese and the original pump. What distinguishes them is not so much the quality as the price tag.

Advice! Unfortunately, you won’t be able to just point at the pump you like in an online store. You will have to select the part by volume. This can be done very simply: specify the year of manufacture and model of the car in the filters. For example, this is a Ford Mondeo 3 produced in 2012.

Popular models, not counting the original fuel modules from Ford, are: PROFIT, BOSCH, ATS, ACHR, VDO, etc.

Which fuses to choose?

Ford Focus 3 is the first car in this series that is produced equally in all countries of the world. For Russia it is produced in Vsevolozhsk. The engineers' idea was fully realized, and original spare parts for the car can be found in any city in every country. The same applies to fuses that are manufactured in Russia.

Advice! Russian PPs are no worse than imported or European ones, but they cost an order of magnitude cheaper. We recommend paying attention to the domestic manufacturer.

Getting ready for repairs: what tools will you need?

Before you start repairing a Ford Mondeo, you should take care of what tools you will need for the job. We recommend checking your home tool kit for the following items:

  • Wrench for removing fuel hoses.
  • Key for removing the fuel pump.
  • Fuel filter lifting pliers
  • Fuel cap puller.
  • Key for fuel box cover.
  • Set of fuel caps.
  • Puller for fuel intake.

Algorithm for replacing a fuel pump for a gasoline car

You probably guessed that the fuel system of a gasoline engine is different from that used in diesel cars. That is why we have divided the procedure for replacing the fuel pump into two parts: for a gasoline engine and for a diesel engine. For Ford Mondeo, the operating procedure is approximately as follows:

  1. The first step is to remove the fuel tank.
  2. The left module, responsible for the fuel supply, is held on by two nuts and fasteners. You need to remove both fasteners.
  3. Take out the module located on the left side, it is responsible for directing fuel to the engine. Be careful not to damage nearby elements: float, lever, etc. The O-ring you find there should not be used under any circumstances. It has served its purpose and must go in the trash. If you are going to neglect this repair detail, be prepared for the fact that other, more serious damage will be found in your car.
  4. Separate the sensor connector so that you can conveniently reach the gasoline supply pipe. It must be carefully discarded. This will allow you to get to the right side and begin dismantling it. Follow the recommendations strictly and impeccably, due to which you will be able to achieve high-quality repairs.
  5. The line that goes to the right module must be disconnected from the motor. The same applies to the additional fuel heater, if one is installed. Everything is put aside so as not to interfere with further repairs.
  6. Remove the clamps and unscrew the two nuts using a wrench. The fitting is only available on models that have a heater.
  7. The right module is the fuel outlet from the tank, a kind of closing circuit. Disconnect it carefully to avoid breaking the float or other element. After all the elements are removed, you can remove the fuel module itself.
  8. On Ford Mondeo vehicles, most of which are equipped with a fuel heater, you will need to drill an additional fitting. It is mounted on a shear bolt, so use a special tool for this purpose.
  9. Installation of all system elements is carried out in strictly reverse order. Do not forget the parts, fasteners and sequence of work. If you are new to repairs, it is recommended to remove and mark the removed parts with their name and serial number. This will allow the return work to be carried out much faster.

Algorithm for replacing a fuel pump for a car running on diesel fuel

If you are the owner of a diesel Ford Mondeo, then the principle of replacing the fuel pump is somewhat different from its gasoline partner. Of course, many of the steps are the same for both situations, but it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with the methodology in full:

  • Remove the fuel tank. As you can see, getting started is the same for both cases.
  • Dismantling work begins from the right side. The first step is to remove the fuel supply line. If there is a heater, it is also removed. This frees the fuel module, which is ready for disassembly.
  • The right module is attached to a nut and two fasteners. If you followed the recommendations from the article, you prepared all the tools in advance. Take the key and remove the fasteners.
  • After you have removed the model responsible for removing the fuel, it’s time to deal with the supply mechanism. Discard the tube and wires after you have removed all terminals, fasteners and seals. As is the case with a gasoline engine, the rubber seal is not recyclable and must be disposed of. Rest assured, a one-time extra expense will save you a lot of time and money in the future.
  • Do the same for the tube on the left side. Removing the two fasteners will entail removing the fuel drain tube and wires. A similar procedure applies to the seal.
  • If you are the owner of a Ford Mondeo with an additional heater, then you will have to worry about the fitting. First, drill out the shear bolt that secures the fitting. After this, you can dismantle the latter and replace it with a new element.
  • The fitting into which the new tube is mounted is easily installed on the new module. All you need to do is pull the new shear bolt through until the head breaks off.
  • At this point, the preparatory work for replacing the fuel pump is completed. All that remains to be done is to replace the element itself with a new one purchased in advance.

Replacing fuses: process description

The process of replacing fuses on a Ford Focus 3 is far from the most difficult operation. A minimal set of tools and a few hours of free time is all you need. Mainly working fuses are located under the hood and inside the car. To understand which fuse is responsible for what, you should familiarize yourself with the diagram.

Advice! The block contains special pliers, with which you can carefully remove the burnt fuse for inspection or replacement.

The replacement process itself is not very complicated. To perform it for the motor unit, follow the steps described below:

  1. Remove the terminals from the battery. It is important to always remember that inspection of the circuit and replacement of parts should be carried out with the battery disconnected.
  2. Now try to think about what exactly is not working in your internal electrical system. This will tell you exactly where to look for a blown fuse.
  3. Next, go directly to working with the block. Remove the cover and, guided by the PCB location diagram, find the required element. Take it out with tweezers and evaluate it for serviceability. If it is noticeable that the PP has burned out, replace it with a new one. At the end of the replacement procedure, do not forget to connect the battery.

Help with advice in solving the problem. After hitting an obstacle there was a blow to the gas tank. There were no traces on the outside, but after opening it, it turned out that the insides of the fuel pump module were very badly ground. The tank played and crushed everything except the upper part, which is attached to the “neck”. I bought the module, but I couldn’t install it. Due to inexperience, I did not pay attention to the fact that it should be fixed in a clip fixed to the bottom of the tank. This spare part broke into 4 parts, it is not in the catalog, and there are only 4 protruding brackets for it in the tank. Tell me, is it really possible to find this plastic piece, is it removable, is it possible to farm something or buy another tank?

Fuel pump fuse Ford Focus 2

In this case, warm it up by going to a warm garage or heated box. To get to it, you need to remove the roof trim. Check that the glass does not bite anywhere and that the cables and gears are intact.

F F4310A - heater regulator, steering column, diesel fuel filter, remote control receiver. If your stove stops working only in certain positions - in the last, 4th position it works, but in the first ones - not, the problem is in the additional resistance of the resistor.

To replace the resistor, you need to remove the pedal assembly to get to its installation location, disconnect the connector, unscrew the bolts and remove the burnt resistor, then install a working one in its place. The price of the resistor is within rubles. If the heater does not work in any of the positions, check the R10 relay in the block under the hood, the Ford Focus coolant pump fuse, the serviceability of the heater mode switch knob, as well as its contacts.

The heater motor could also burn out. To change it and get to the Ford Focus fuel pump fuse, you need to remove the dashboard.

This can be done without removing the panels with some experience and skill. Also check the heater motor power fuse F10 in the block under the hood. If the stove only blows cold air, the damper adjustment cable may have come off.

If a whistle appears when the stove is operating, disassemble the heater and lubricate the fan. If extraneous sounds come from the space under the radio, check the interior temperature sensor, which is installed there together with the fan. F F4910A - external light controls, battery powered. If your rear window heating does not turn on, it may be due to broken threads of the heating elements.

Inspect them visually and, if there are breaks, replace them with new ones or seal them. You can glue it with silver glue, the price of such glue is about rubles. The Ford Focus fuel pump fuse may also have a broken wire, check the wire running from the switch to the rear window. Also check the switch and its contacts. F F4120A - keyless control system. If fault lamps start to light up on the dashboard or instruments stop working, the problem may not be with the instruments themselves, but with the panel.

But first check this fuse. Ford Focus fuel pump fuse, the car may not start at all or may experience problems shifting gears while driving.

By moving the panel, you can understand whether the errors disappear or not. In models up to a year old, the problem lies in poor soldering of the contacts. To fix it, you need to remove the panel and check the contacts on the board where the connector is attached. Check all the tracks at the same time.

It is good to solder cracked and crumbling contacts. If you do not know how to work with a soldering iron, it is better to entrust this work to an electrician.

If you decide to replace the dashboard with a new one, it is better to contact a car service, because in this case you will need to reflash it - register the keys for the immobilizer to work, configure the panel and control units. F F687.5A - audio system, radio, GPS navigation If the radio stops working, check this fuse.

Most standard Ford CD or Sony radios may not work due to blocking and require you to enter a code. This occurs after a power failure, such as when replacing or disconnecting the battery.

If you enter the wrong code several times, the Ford Focus radio will permanently break the fuel pump fuse. I'm just sick of cars. I try to study in detail every car I have owned. Ford Focus fuel pump fuse likes night driving on city streets.
