Crossover for 600 thousand rubles: what will the market offer?

For 500 thousand rubles, quite decent options for this money are available on the secondary car market in Russia today. Given the rising prices for new cars, such purchases are often the only option for many car enthusiasts.

The Auto News of the Day publication, with the support of experts, compiled a rating of the best used cars for 500 thousand rubles on the Russian market, current at the beginning of 2020. What can you buy today for half a million rubles?

Renault Duster

This model of the French brand is one of the most proven crossovers on our market, which is famous for its reliability. Despite the fact that this model is one of the most affordable on the primary market, options in good condition often appear on the secondary market. Although the Duster is not bad off-road, it is often bought due to its availability for use only in urban conditions.

The Renault Duster engine range includes 1.6 and 2.0 liter petrol engines with outputs of 114 and 143 hp, respectively. Plus, a 1.5-liter turbodiesel with 109 hp is available.

Kia Rio

This Korean sedan is the most popular on the primary market - it is logical that there are quite a lot of offers on the secondary market, which allows you to find quite inexpensive options in good condition. This Korean is also popular due to its accessible and inexpensive components, and has become an affordable price for repairs and maintenance.

As for engines, the Rio is available in two versions - these are 1.4 and 1.6 liter petrol engines with a power output of 100 and 123 hp, respectively.

Hyundai Tucson, iX35 and Kia Sportage

The attitude towards “Tushkans” in our country is quite cool. The first generation cars looked typically Korean, that is, a little strange for the Russian mentality. But if you put aside the unsightly “big-eyed” design, the Tucson is an ordinary “workhorse”. The machine is as simple as possible, and repairs can be made even in the field. All-wheel drive SUVs, for the most part, were sold with a two-liter engine

for 140 “horses”, with “mechanics” or “automatic”. Tucson is calm and cannot boast of dynamics or phenomenal cross-country ability. But for the city and trips to the country it will be one hundred percent suitable.

Reliability and maintainability affected the price. For 500-600 thousand you can buy a Tucson produced in 2007-2008. When purchasing, you should pay attention to the general condition of the car. Usually, if there are any problems, they are of an age-related nature.

All of the above can easily be attributed to another crossover under the Hyundai brand – the iX35. First generation cars began to be sold in 2010. For 500-600 thousand rubles you can buy a “thirty-fifth” produced in 2011-2012. The bulk of used crossovers are equipped with a two-liter gasoline engine with 150 horsepower, but there are also two-liter diesel engines with 184 horsepower. The drive is either all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive. Like the Tucson, the iX35 is reliable and repairable.

The Kia Sportage is essentially the same Tucson, just with a different nameplate. Third generation cars were very popular in Russia; there were several in every yard. They have not become rare even now. Bright design, reliability, budget maintenance and service - all this did the trick. For the specified budget you can find cars from the first years of production. And despite their advanced age, they are most often in good condition.

Lada Vesta

Enough time has passed since Vesta appeared on the market for it to begin appearing on the used car market. Moreover, AvtoVAZ is updating its equipment, so fans of the brand are ready to exchange their Vestas for new ones by selling old ones. Although the authors of this rating warn that the model is still “fresh” and is often sold due to an accident, high mileage, etc. - so you should be more careful.

If we talk about engines, then in this case there is also a choice of two options. This is a 1.6-liter engine with 106 hp. and a 1.8-liter engine with 122 hp.

Boo. crossovers up to 500,000 rubles

Variety of choices

Buying an SUV with mileage up to 500,000 is much easier, since there are many offers on the market, and it will not necessarily be a “killed” copy, which is already 20 years old. For that amount you can buy a relatively new jeeper, which is at most 5 years old.

This list includes the following cars: Great Wall Hover H2, Mitsubishi Pajero Mini, Nissan Kix, Hyundai Santa Fe, Nissan Qashqai, Great Wall Hover, Great Wall Hover H3, Nissan Juke, Great Wall Safe, Kia Sportage and others. Overall, the list of available options is impressive.

As you can see, there are practically no European brands in it. However, you should consider the pros and cons of these models, dividing them into several blocks.

Mitsubishi Pajero Mini and Nissan Kix

These SUVs under 500,000 mileage are classified as compact, 3-door cars. Such models have excellent geometric cross-country ability due to small body overhangs and an almost smooth bottom. Of course, the engines that these jeeps are equipped with are very modest, and their volume is less than 1 liter. However, they are quite enough for confident movement.

However, such SUVs under 500,000 rubles are not suitable for everyone, therefore, the range of potential buyers is quite narrow.

Nissan Juke, Nissan Qashqai, Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sportage

These used crossovers up to 500,000 rubles are representatives of the urban type. Typically, for a similar amount, they will be slightly older (4-5 years). But this is offset by the traditional reliability of such cars, their prestige, comfort and other qualities. Naturally, these are entirely urban “rogues”, focused on storming the obstacles of a typical metropolis - curbs, asphalt overflows, snowdrifts, etc.

Great Wall Hover, Great Wall Hover H2, Great Wall Hover H3

These Chinese crossovers with mileage up to 500,000 are rated lower than the “thoroughbred” Japanese or Koreans. Therefore, all other things being equal, you can buy a younger car. On the other hand, neither in terms of comfort, nor in terms of reliability, technical data, prestige and other aspects, they clearly do not reach Japanese models.

As you can see, it is quite possible to buy an SUV under 500,000, be it a new or used one. However, few people will be completely satisfied with it. On the other hand, buying a crossover under 500,000 is much easier, since the choice is disproportionately wider. These could be quite decent new models. However, you shouldn’t think that high-quality used crossovers under 500,000 are much inferior to new ones. 3-4 years is not age for a car of this class.

Ford Focus

The story with Fords is simple - after the American brand left the Russian market, the car is available only on the secondary market. So for the specified amount you can even find a Ford Focus 3 in good condition. But the second generation model is likely to be “rolled in”, so you can bargain here.

Ford Focus 3 is available with both petrol and diesel engines. In the first case, it is a 1.6-liter engine with a capacity of 105 or 125 hp, and in the second, a 150-horsepower 2.0-liter engine.

Let's look at the secondary

The other side of the coin of great variety is the difficulty of choice associated with finding the optimal ratio of age and set of other qualities of a used car within this amount.

Good cars up to 500 thousand rubles. You can buy, the main thing is to more or less understand the criteria. After all, even the age of a used car can be very relative than even the mileage, but most importantly, the condition of the chassis and engine.

A good car owner tries to monitor the condition of the important components of the car and in general: the sound of the running engine is smooth and clean, and the oil consumption is acceptable. Since all the regulations were made on time, consumables were changed. Although no internal combustion engine lasts forever and requires replacement of a number of essential parts after a certain mileage.

It’s about the same with the chassis, but replacing the brake pads alone is unlikely to be enough here. You need good diagnostics so that after the purchase everything doesn’t literally start crumbling: shock absorbers, steering rods, front-wheel drive, etc.

It makes sense to pay attention to the body regarding rust, and the so-called “cuts” characteristic of the Far Eastern secondary market.
“Damnness” in this case is still not the main thing, if the car is not after a serious accident. Important!
Purchasing a used car after an accident makes sense, and can even be profitable, for those who are well versed in cars. Able to, if not restore it yourself, then accurately estimate the cost of the work and your capabilities.

Volkswagen Polo

The sedan of this German brand is also quite popular in Russia, so there are plenty of offers on the used car market. You can buy a four-door car even cheaper, but it will be a completely dead option. But for half a million rubles you can bargain for a copy in decent condition. Plus, these models are similar to those of the Kia Rio - availability of inexpensive repairs and spare parts.

With motors, everything is also “in line”. The most affordable option is with a 1.6-liter engine and a power of either 90 or 110 hp. Less common and, as a rule, more expensive is the version with a 1.4-liter turbo engine with a power of 125 hp.

Cars with mileage up to 500 thousand rubles

Cheap cars include vehicles under 500 thousand rubles. If the future owner buys a vehicle from an experienced car owner who has kept his car in order and looked after it, then the characteristics of the car in subsequent blocks will be consistent.
