F8CV engine on a Daewoo Matiz

Cars admin26.02.2020

The compact urban hatchback Daewoo Matiz has been produced since 1998. Thanks to its low gasoline consumption, its maneuverability and reliability, the car has gained considerable popularity in Russia. The Daewoo Matiz 0.8 engine is the most basic power unit that was installed on this car.

The motor has a lot of positive qualities, but it also has quite serious disadvantages. In this article we will look at the pros and cons of a small engine, its characteristics and repair features.

Engine F8CV

The 0.8 liter three-cylinder petrol engine was installed on the Daewoo Matiz from the very beginning of the production of this car, and at first it was the only Matiz power unit. In 2003, a 1.0 liter (64 hp) internal combustion engine also appeared on the car, and it was already a four-cylinder. The 3-cylinder S-TEC engine for the Korean car was developed jointly by Daewoo Motors and Suzuki, it is intended for use in small and compact cars.

The 0.8 liter engine has a somewhat unusual sound; it works as if it were a motorcycle engine. Despite the low power, the Daewoo Matiz with the F8CV power unit picks up speed quite quickly - for the light weight of the car (less than one ton), the engine is quite enough.

Daewoo Matiz technical specifications

As noted above, over the almost 20-year history of Daewoo Matiz, the technical characteristics of the car have changed slightly. A significant breakthrough took place in the early 2000s, when a modification with a liter engine entered the market.

Power unit

Depending on the modification of the Daewoo Matiz car, it was equipped with one of two engines. In basic versions, a 3-cylinder power unit with a volume of 0.8 liters was installed. This engine develops about 51 hp. useful power and 64 N/m of torque. The motor is complemented by a liquid cooling system.

In more expensive versions, which were produced until 2020, Matiz was equipped with a 1-liter power unit. This motor has the best technical characteristics: the maximum power of the installation reaches 64 hp. However, there are no significant differences in dynamics and fuel efficiency indicators depending on the engine type. So, on average, a car consumes 5.5-7 liters of fuel on the highway, and up to 8 in the city.

Transmission and suspension

Initially, the Daewoo Matiz was equipped with only a 5-speed manual transmission. Then the list of equipment was replenished with a 4-band automatic transmission, which did not have a significant impact on the technical characteristics, but improved the ease of operation. The drive of the Korean model is only on the front axle. Thanks to this, the car behaves well on dirt roads.

At the front of the Matiz there is an independent suspension, presented in the form of McPherson struts. A transverse stabilizer and coil springs are also installed there. At the rear there is a semi-independent suspension with a torsion beam. Near the stern there are telescopic shock absorbers and trailing arms.

The front wheels are equipped with disc brakes, the rear wheels are equipped with drum brakes.

Body and dimensions of Daewoo Matiz

The Korean hatchback has the following dimensions:

  • length - 3497 mm (for the first two generations - 3495 mm);
  • wheelbase - 2340 mm;
  • width - 1495 mm;
  • height - 1485 mm.

Ground clearance varies depending on the year of manufacture. Initially, this figure was 140 mm, but later the manufacturer raised the car by 10 mm.

Daewoo Matiz 0.8 engine: technical specifications

The cylinder block of the F8CV internal combustion engine is cast from cast iron, the cylinder head is aluminum, and two valves are installed in each combustion chamber. The location of the camshaft in the engine is upper, the shaft is located in the cylinder head bed. The timing drive is a belt drive; the rollers and belt must be changed every 40 thousand km. If you do not follow the replacement instructions, the belt may break, and in this case the valves in the cylinder head will bend. It is impossible to allow the belt drive to break - the meeting of the valves with the pistons can render the parts of the cylinder-piston group unusable, and repairs will then be expensive.

The Daewoo Matiz 0.8 engine has the following technical characteristics:

  • Volume – 796 cm³;
  • power – 52 l. With.;
  • number of cylinders – 3;
  • the total number of valves in the cylinder head is 6;
  • diameter of standard pistons – 68.5 mm;
  • compression ratio – 9.2;
  • piston stroke – 72 mm;
  • fuel used - AI-92;
  • cooling – liquid;
  • power supply system – injector (distributed injection).

The crankshaft is installed in the cylinder block on four supports, 4 caps are tightened with bolts on top. Shaft journal diameter:

  • indigenous – 44 mm (-0.02 mm);
  • connecting rod – 38 mm (-0.02 mm).

If the crankshaft shows wear, the crankshaft must be ground. There are repair sizes for main and connecting rod bearings:

  • first repair – 0.25 mm;
  • second repair – 0.5 mm.

The engine also has repair sizes for the pistons:

  • 68.75 mm (+0.25 mm) – first repair;
  • 69.00 mm (+0.5 mm) – second repair.

As the cylinder liners of the block wear out, they are bored; if it is no longer possible to bore them for the last repair, the BC needs to be relined or the block replaced.

Typical faults of the F8CV engine

The Matiz 0.8 engine has a good service life - with careful operation and timely maintenance, the service life of the internal combustion engine is on average 200 thousand km. But the engine has its own characteristic diseases, the most frequent breakdowns. The first Daewoo Matiz cars had a distributor installed, and this part in the ignition system was not particularly reliable. Often, due to a faulty distributor, the engine stopped starting, and since the distributor was irreparable, it had to be replaced. Since 2008, F8CV engines have gone without distributors - the ignition is controlled by the ECU, so problems with starting the internal combustion engine have decreased. Despite the fairly high reliability, the Daewoo Matiz 0.8 engine often:

  • the crankshaft is knocking;
  • the piston partitions under the piston rings burst;
  • The cylinder head fails.

But all these serious breakdowns occur solely through the fault of car owners. The crankshaft knocks mainly due to overloads and the use of low-quality engine oil. For some reason, drivers believe that if the engine is “frivolous”, then there is no need to properly maintain it. The partitions under the piston rings on the pistons always burst due to overheating, for the same reason cracks appear in the combustion chambers of the cylinder head.

The main diseases of F8CV often manifest themselves not so much in the motor itself, but in the attachments. The most painful place here is the generator; diode bridge failure occurs especially often. Parts most often fail in conditions of high humidity; in other cases, the generator may require repairs already at 50 thousand km.

The starter on the Matiz lasts longer; it may require repairs after about 80-100 thousand km. However, on a Korean car, repairing attachments is not always advisable - the price of spare parts is low, and in some cases it is more profitable to completely replace the entire assembly than to waste time on repairing the same generator or starter.

Replacing the timing belt for Daewoo Matiz with 0.8 engine

Many Matiz car owners turn to car repair shops for engine repairs, including trusting the technicians to replace the timing belt. But the work of replacing parts of the gas distribution mechanism is not very difficult, and if you have even minor plumbing skills, you can do it yourself. The most important thing in this matter is to correctly set the marks on the camshaft and crankshaft - if they are set incorrectly, the valves will be bent, and the repair will then be much more serious.

We replace the timing belt on the F8CV engine as follows:

  • we place the car on a level surface; it is not necessary to perform work on a pit or a lift;
  • turn off the engine, remove the negative terminal from the battery;
  • jack up the car, take off the front right wheel, and put chocks under the rear wheels. It is better to install a stop next to the jack; such insurance will not hurt;
  • dismantle the timing belt casing;
  • remove the generator belt;
  • we stop the crankshaft from turning (you can stick 5th gear on the box), tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt;
  • dismantle the shaft pulley,
  • remove the tube with the oil dipstick;
  • we set the marks - it should be installed on the camshaft, as in the figure below. It is important not to confuse the marks - the second mark on the gear is only needed for adjusting the valves;
  • unscrew the bolts of the lower casing, dismantle the timing belt protection;
  • the mark on the crankshaft must also match;
  • loosen the tension roller bolt and remove the belt;
  • completely unscrew the roller bolt, dismantle the spring and the roller itself;
  • to install a new roller, first fix the spring on it, then put the other end of the spring behind the font;
  • insert the tension roller into the fixing hole and tighten the bolt;
  • tighten the bolt and move the roller as far as possible to the side so that you can easily install the belt;
  • Having installed the belt, we tighten it;
  • We check the marks match and perform assembly.

Adjustment of valves

The 0.8 liter Daewoo Matiz engine does not have hydraulic compensators, so the valves are adjusted manually. Typically, such an operation should be carried out once every 50 thousand kilometers; you can also adjust the valves yourself. The sequence of operations here is as follows:

  • first of all, unscrew the valve cover bolts, for this you will need an M5 hexagon;
  • There are 6 bolts in total;
  • remove the front timing belt cover;
  • set the TDC of the first cylinder;
  • adjust using the feeler gauge on the 1st cylinder of the valve: on the intake – 0.15 mm, on the exhaust – 0.3 mm. We also adjust the intake valve on the second cylinder and the exhaust valve on the third. The locknut is loosened with a 12mm wrench, and the screw is adjusted with a flat screwdriver;
  • turn the crankshaft further, align another mark on the camshaft with the “triangle” on the inner timing case - you need to set exactly this mark (there is an ebb under the numbers);
  • we adjust the exhaust valve on the second cylinder and the exhaust valve on the third.

Close the valve cover, start the engine, listen to how the engine works. During adjustment, you need to pay attention to the condition of the camshaft cams, and if there is wear on them, it will not be possible to adjust the valves (they will knock) - in this case, you need to prepare to replace the camshaft.

The car is a popular, compact urban form of transport. Users appreciate its maneuverability, unpretentiousness and relative comfort for reasonable money.

The power unit of the vehicle on our market is represented by two modifications: F8CV is a 0.8-liter engine, 51 hp; B10S1 - power plant with a volume of 1.0 liter, 63 hp.

Since 1998, only a 0.8-liter 3-cylinder gasoline engine with a manual transmission has been installed on the car. In 2003, they began to install a 1.0 liter engine with 4 cylinders.

The sore spot of the smaller engine (0.8 liters) produced before 2008 was the ignition distributor with an electronic sensor. The sensor malfunctioned when moisture came into contact with it. After the transition to EURO-3, the problem was eliminated.

Both engines are equipped with a distributed fuel injection system, thanks to which greater power and efficiency are achieved. An exhaust gas recirculation system is also used. Particular attention should be paid to the timing belt.

If it is not replaced in a timely manner, it may break, which will lead to failure of the entire gas distribution mechanism, and as a result, expensive repairs cannot be avoided. The most common malfunction of the Daewoo Matiz engine remains a malfunction of the unit due to incorrect readings of the throttle position sensor.

Characteristics of Daewoo Matiz / Daewoo Matiz

In the 80s, Suzuki sold the 1982 Alto to the Koreans - as a result, production of the Daewoo Tico began in 1988. The design of the Daewoo Tico seemed quite successful to the Koreans. Therefore, when creating a new compact car, it was decided to save money and build the Matiz based on the Tico. It is noteworthy that the design of the Daewoo Matiz was invented by the Italians from the ItalDesign studio, who first created this appearance for the new small Fiat, but then decided to give it to Daewoo.

The compact five-door Matiz is promoted exclusively in Western European countries, where there is high demand for city cars. This maneuverable and easy-to-drive model feels great in the dense traffic of big cities. Matiz has good space and comfort for its class, as well as decent dynamic performance. The model was first presented in 1998 in Geneva.

For a long time, Daewoo Matiz was equipped only with a 0.8-liter 3-cylinder engine (50 hp, 52 hp or 56 hp depending on the market), as well as a 5-speed manual transmission. Since the summer of 1999, it began to be produced with an automatic transmission, including a continuously variable CVT and an automatic clutch.

At the Paris Motor Show in October 2000, an updated version of the Daewoo Matiz was presented. This car is almost 10 cm taller and wider than its predecessor Daewoo Tico. The model's body has a streamlined shape: a large rounded windshield that smoothly continues into the hood, oval headlights, and extended wheel arches.

The Matiz has a surprisingly spacious interior for the mini class. The interior is modest but pleasant. A very nice front panel, an original instrument cluster, however, everything is made of hard and inexpensive plastic. The driver's seat has good ergonomics. The small steering wheel fits perfectly in the hands, the seat is comfortable with a wide range of adjustments, all controls are accessible, instrument readings are easy to read, visibility forward, backward and through the rear-view mirrors is excellent. The interior is insulated from engine noise.

The luggage compartment volume is only 165 liters, but it can be significantly increased by folding the rear seats.

In 2001, Daewoo Matiz began to be made in Uzbekistan, and in 2002 the model was modernized. In addition to a slightly modified appearance, Matiz II received a 1.0 liter 4-cylinder engine.

Matiz II is supplied to Russia in four versions - STD (basic version), DLX (improved version), Automatic with an automatic 4-speed gearbox (all with a 0.8 liter R3 6V engine developing 54 hp) and Best with 1 .0-liter R4 8V engine (64 hp), rich basic equipment and silver bumpers.

Depending on the equipment level, Matiz is equipped with power steering, air conditioning, catalytic converter, electric headlight adjustment, audio system with CD, central locking, roof rails, fog lights, alloy wheels, parking sensors, sunroof and other equipment.

The body is designed to achieve minimal crumple zones in the event of damage, which is achieved by a reinforced roof and load beams built into the doors that prevent them from jamming and provide occupants with increased protection in the event of a side impact. In the event of a vehicle rollover, the high-tech plastic fuel tank prevents fuel leakage and subsequent fire. Active safety features include brakes equipped with powerful 7-inch vacuum boosters, four-channel ABS and two airbags.

Daewoo Matiz is equipped with a 0.8 SOHC MPI three-cylinder petrol engine with a distributed fuel injection system, providing high power and fuel economy. The cars are also equipped with an exhaust gas recirculation system, which reduces fuel losses and contributes to less emission of harmful nitrogen oxide gas, as well as an EMS system controlled by the on-board computer.

At the end of 2004, General Motors, which acquired the automobile division of Daewoo, decided to sell Korean cars under the Chevrolet brand in most world markets. This is how the Chevrolet Matiz appeared, which in some countries (including Russia) is known as the Chevrolet Spark. This car is equipped with 0.8 liter engines. and 1.0 l. 52 hp and 66 hp respectively.

City minicar Daewoo Matiz

Daewoo Matiz is one of the longest-living cars in the minicar class. This model has been produced since 1998 both at General Motors-Daewoo factories and under license. During its history, Matiz has been restyled twice, and since 2001 its production has been established at the Uz-Daewoo Auto Co joint venture, from where cars are supplied to the territory of the Russian Federation.

The design of the new Daewoo Matiz 2016-2017 (photo, price) was once developed by maestro Giugiaro himself (ItalDesign studio), but today this minicar looks like a gray mouse compared to its modern classmates. Simple lines, round retro-style headlights and a rather boring rear design do not catch the eye.

Body of Daewoo Matiz

Stylish Daewoo Matiz metallic color

The main task of the designers involved in the development of the body was to achieve minimal crumple zones in the event of damage. This was made possible due to the reinforced roof and power units that are built into the doors. They prevent the latter from jamming and provide passengers with improved protection in the event of an impact.

The high-tech plastic fuel tank prevents fuel leakage and subsequent fire when the car turns over. In addition, safety is guaranteed by brakes equipped with powerful vacuum boosters, two airbags and four-channel ABS. A test drive of the Daewoo Matiz proved that you can be confident in this car on the road in any weather conditions.

The hatchback body is well protected from corrosion. Provided there are no accidents, body iron can withstand harmful influences for several years. Parts for this model are affordable: the hood costs about eighty dollars, the front fender - thirty - forty dollars.

Engine Matiz

Engine Daewoo Matiz

The Daewoo Matiz uses a 0.8 liter three-cylinder petrol engine and a distributed fuel injection system. It is thanks to him that the car is distinguished by high power and low fuel consumption . The exhaust gas recirculation system produces a small amount of nitrogen oxide. ABS and on-board computer provide ease of control. The engine does not cause problems: it is reliable and, with proper operation, will last a very long time. Moreover, Daewoo Matiz proved that driving a car has now become easier. This car quickly accelerates to eighty kilometers per hour, the brakes allow you to quickly stop during emergency braking.

The rigid suspension and low ground clearance do not imply driving on bad roads. If you drive carefully, the chassis will require minimal attention. Daewoo Matiz is equipped with two types of gearboxes: automatic and manual. The second one can “think” a lot and is characterized by slight jerks when changing gears, but usually the technical characteristics of the Daewoo Matiz do not cause any complaints from drivers.

Typical malfunctions of power plants

The power units have good performance. The engine life with careful operation and proper technical care is about 200,000 km. In general, the daewoo matiz engine is reliable and simple; the main shortcomings occur due to the failure of attachments. The main engine malfunctions include:

  • Crankshaft knock;
  • Breakage of the piston partitions in the area of the piston rings;
  • Broken cylinder head.

The main responsibility for all these breakdowns lies with the owner of the vehicle, since they mainly occur due to poor maintenance. For example, knocking of the crankshaft occurs due to overloads arising from low-quality oil, or untimely replacement of the old one with a new one.

Breakage of the piston walls and cracks in the cylinder head occur as a result of overheating.

Repair of power plants, main types of work

The design of the motors is simple; if necessary, maintenance or repairs can be carried out independently. Repair of the Daewoo Matiz engine is conventionally divided into current and major. Current repairs include:

  • Setting up valves;
  • Cylinder head gasket maintenance;
  • Removal and installation of new piston rings;
  • Elimination of causes of oil leakage;
  • Repair or replacement of the oil pump.

Major repairs are carried out on the condition that the power unit has exhausted its service life or its operation has led to a serious breakdown and routine repairs are impractical.

To carry out major repairs, the Daewoo Matiz engine requires removal from the vehicle. How much it weighs depends on the modification, whether the unit is dry or wet; in any case, dismantling should be carried out using a winch. Afterwards, it must be disassembled, the degree of wear determined, the damaged parts rejected and replaced.

Upon completion of the repair, the engine requires running-in under gentle conditions. To achieve them, it is necessary to limit the load on the unit and not spin the crankshaft to maximum speed. The running-in period is designed for 2-3 thousand km.

Replacing the timing belt

Replacing parts of the gas distribution mechanism on a Deu Matiz car is not difficult and can be done independently. The main thing that the user must remember is that the marks on the shafts (camshaft and crankshaft) must be set correctly. In case of an error, you can damage the engine valves and then eliminating this damage will be much more troublesome.

Regulation without strobe

Experienced motorists who are well versed in engine operation can adjust the ignition by ear and not spend money on purchasing a strobe light. Moreover, its accuracy is not always sufficient and there are tolerances on the car itself that distort the readings.

Action plan:

  1. Set the engine to idle and move the distributor to “plus”.
  2. Move it in the opposite direction until detonation disappears at idle.
  3. Then, using the same actions, ensure the absence of detonation under sudden pressure on the gas.

Having secured the distributor, the car is rolled out onto a flat surface for inspection, the speed is increased to 50 km/h, gear 4 is engaged and the gas pedal is sharply pressed. If everything is adjusted correctly, detonation will last about 2 seconds, if it is absent or when it lasts longer, adjustment is required.

In cases where adjustment of the distributor is impossible due to reaching the extreme point (but the check shows that the ignition is not normal), it is necessary to check whether it is installed correctly and whether the crankshaft is aligned correctly. Try to align the distributor by turning one tooth in the direction of adjustment.

Changing the oil and oil filter in power plants

The manufacturer recommends changing the oil in the Matiz engine every 10,000 km. Failure to comply with this requirement may adversely affect the service life of the unit. It is recommended to fill in oil: 5w30, 5w40, 10w30, 10w40 synthetic or semi-synthetic.

The life of your internal combustion engine directly depends on the quality of oil poured into the unit. Preference should be given to purchasing products from well-known brands: Mobil, Aral, etc.

The amount of oil in a Daewoo engine depends on which power unit is installed on the vehicle. If the F8CV (0.8) engine is installed, the oil volume is 2.7 liters; If you have a B10S1 (1.0) engine, you will need to pour 3.2 liters of oil. Don’t forget that when you pour oil into the engine, the oil filter must first have been replaced.

Engine repair

The design of the motors is simple; if necessary, maintenance or repairs can be carried out independently. Engine repair of Daewoo Matiz is conventionally divided into current and major. Current repairs include:

  • Setting up valves;
  • Cylinder head gasket maintenance;
  • Removal and installation of new piston rings;
  • Elimination of causes of oil leakage;

Replacing parts of the gas distribution mechanism on a Daewoo Matiz car is not difficult and can be done independently. The main thing that the user must remember is that the marks on the shafts (camshaft and crankshaft) must be set correctly. In case of an error, you can damage the engine valves and then eliminating this damage will be much more troublesome.

Adjusting the power mechanism valves

In the Daewoo matiz engine, valve adjustment is carried out in accordance with the vehicle maintenance regulations. The operation should be carried out once every 50,000 km. Mileage. To do this, a series of sequential actions are performed, which can be read in detail in the instructions or technical documentation for each power plant.

General information about the Matiz engine.

The Matiz engine is reliable and unpretentious, simple to the point of genius and easy to maintain. Three pistons, three cylinders, four strokes, six valves - what else is needed for happiness? (We are talking about an engine with a displacement of 0.8 liters - about the liter Matiz engine, read the article “Matiz 1.0 liter engine”).

Located in the front part of the car transverse to the direction of travel, it is attached to the body in the engine compartment assembled with the gearbox and clutch on four supports (three on the engine, one through a bracket on the gearbox).

History of Daewoo Matiz

Matiz got its recognizable appearance by accident: the Italian studio initially created the design for Fiat brand models, but the latter abandoned the proposed concept. Thanks to this, in 1996, a compact urban hatchback was born, the technical characteristics of which were worked out by British engineers, but the car itself belonged to a Korean company.

The first generation of Daewoo Matiz appeared on the market a year after its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. First, production of the model was established at a Korean automobile plant. But after one year, Indian and Romanian enterprises were involved in the assembly of the hatchback. At the same time, the Daewoo Matiz acquired the technical characteristics that it retained throughout the history of its existence.

At the beginning of the 2000s, the assembly of the car was established in Uzbekistan. This model continues to be produced here to this day, but under the Ravon brand and with a modified body.

By 2001, due to various problems, Daewoo went bankrupt. The rights to the Korean brand were transferred to General Motors, which is why Matiz was produced for some time under the Chevrolet brand. It was thanks to the GM concern that the hatchback engine range was supplemented with a liter engine and an automatic transmission.

By 2005, the manufacturer released a new generation of the Korean model. In the USA and countries of the Old World, General Motors continued to produce cars under the Chevrolet brand (we are talking about the Spark hatchback). But for Eastern Europe, including Russia, the GM concern decided to return the familiar name Daewoo Matiz. After another 2 years, the manufacturer improved the technical characteristics of the car by adding a Euro-3 standard engine to the engine range. This power unit, in comparison with its predecessors, had a longer service life.

In 2009, the third generation of Daewoo Matiz entered the market with the same technical characteristics, but, as follows from the official description of the car, with a more comfortable interior. After two years, the developers presented to the public an updated version of the hatchback with a modified body. In particular, the head optics were increased in size, and both bumpers received a reinforced design. In this form, the Korean model was sold on the Russian market until 2020, when the Daewoo brand was replaced by Ravon.

Cylinder block, pistons, connecting rods, valves.

The cylinder block of the Daewoo Matiz engine is cast iron, the cylinders are bored into the block. At the bottom of the block there are supports for the crankshaft main bearings (4 pcs.) with removable covers that are bolted to the block. (Note - the main bearing holes are machined together with the caps, so the caps are not interchangeable and are marked to distinguish them.)

The pistons are oval, conical, made of aluminum alloy. In the upper part of the piston, near the bottom, three grooves are machined for piston rings - one oil scraper ring (5) and two compression rings (4). The connecting rods (g) are made of steel and have an I-section. Matiz piston pins (2) are steel, “floating” type, have a tubular cross-section, and are fixed with retaining rings (3). The cylinder head is cast and made of aluminum alloy. A six-cam camshaft is located at the top of the head - it operates the valves. A metallized gasket is installed between the cylinder block and the cylinder head. (ATTENTION! After removing the cylinder head, reusing the gasket is not allowed - it must be replaced with a new one.) The valves (j) are made of steel, the diameter of the exhaust valve plates is larger than that of the intake valves. The valves are actuated by the camshaft (k) via cams through rocker arms (i). The valves are closed by means of a spring placed on the valve stem, the lower part of which rests against the washer, and the upper part against the valve plate, held by two crackers. The folded crackers have the shape of a truncated cone on the outside; the protrusions on their inner surface serve for fixation on the valve stem.

Matiz engine crankshaft

Cast from high-strength steel, has four main and three connecting rod journals, and is equipped with counterweights.

The movement of the crankshaft along the longitudinal axis is prevented by thrust half-rings (5) installed in the grooves of the third main bearing support. To supply oil from the main crankpins to the crankpins, lubrication channels are machined in the crankshaft. The main (3) and connecting rod (6) bearing shells are made of steel and coated with a special composition of an alloy of tin and aluminum that prevents friction. At the end of the crankshaft there is a composite toothed pulley for the camshaft drive (toothed belt), power steering pump (ribbed belt) and air conditioning drive (if it is included in the package, also a serpentine belt). There is a damping rubber insert between the outer and inner parts of the pulley - it is designed to dampen vibrations of the crankshaft. At the opposite end of the crankshaft there is a flange to which a cast-iron flywheel with a steel ring gear is bolted, which is used to start the engine with an electric starter.

Matiz engine attachments

In the front of the Matiz engine there are (from bottom to top): an oil filter (bottom left, access is quite limited), an oil level dipstick, an exhaust manifold (with a catalytic converter and an oxygen concentration sensor), spark plugs and high-voltage wires. At the rear of the Matiz engine there are (from bottom to top) an oil pressure sensor, a starter (on the left), a generator (on the right), injectors and a fuel rail, an intake pipe and a throttle assembly. On the left side of the Matiz engine there is an ignition distributor sensor, liquid temperature sensors in the cooling system (one for the temperature indicator and one for the engine control system), a thermostat and an exhaust gas recirculation valve.

1 - camshaft pulley; 2 - tension roller; 3 — coolant pump drive; 4 - camshaft drive gear pulley;

On the right side of the engine there is a pulley for the camshaft and the cooling system pump (toothed belt), the pump, the power steering and the air conditioning compressor, if provided (V-ribbed belts). The lubrication system of the 0.8 L and 1.0 L Matiz engines is similar; read about it in the article “1.0 L Matiz Engine”.

Matiz engine tuning

The 1.0 liter engine lends itself well to tuning. It is important to understand what the Daewoo Matiz B10S1 engine consists of: it is, in fact, a derated unit from the Chevrolet Aveo, in its original configuration it has a volume of 1.2 liters. If desired, the engine can be boosted back by simply installing a piston group from Aveo, thereby returning the characteristics of the engine.

Other options for improvements:

  • tuning camshaft;
  • ECU flashing;
  • installing a split gear;
  • modifications of the intake and exhaust tracts with the removal of the catalytic converter.

All this allows you to “squeeze” engine power up to 85 hp, which is impressive for a Daewoo Matiz. This will require the installation of a new reinforced clutch, because the original one can no longer handle the torque.
