A car owner who decides to independently install an additional layer of sound insulation or change the speakers is faced with the problem of how to remove the rear door trim on a Renault Duster. Rain and melt water often leak into the car interior due to a damaged sealant layer, to restore which you will need to remove the door card. Removing the plastic cover does not require the use of special tools or devices; the work is performed in an open parking lot or in a garage.
Why remove trim from car doors?
Reasons why you need to remove door cards on Renault Duster cars:
- restoration of electrical wiring damaged due to improper installation of the alarm system;
- removing the electric drive of the window lifting mechanism for repair or replacement;
- dismantling the electromechanical door lock (for example, in case of component failure);
- replacement or installation of additional speakers of the acoustic system;
- repair of the load-bearing frame or outer door panel damaged as a result of a minor accident;
- removing the rear view mirror housing (only for the Duster front door);
- installation of additional tuning elements that protect the interior from external noise;
- restoration of normal drainage of rainwater entering the internal cavities of the door through holes along the glass.
What can you use to cover or cover an interior door?
Wallpaper
The easiest way to update an old door in your home is to cover it with wallpaper. In order for the decoration to last for a long time, it is worth knowing certain rules. First of all, the surface of the canvas must be cleaned of dust and dirt, and then sanded. The more old paint can be removed from the surface, the better.
Removing old paint
You should not use cheap thin wallpaper, as it will look unsightly and such decor will not last long. Cleansing wallpaper is the best option. You can choose solid colors, with a pattern, or combine several shades. You can purchase photo wallpaper of a suitable size, but they are only relevant if the surface of the door is flat.

The gluing technology is very simple: a sheet of wallpaper and the surface of the door are coated with glue and then connected. This must be done carefully, avoiding the formation of bubbles. As an addition, rhinestones or rope are used, but this is not necessary.
Glass
Glass can also be used to give new life to an old structure. The material is suitable for doors with inserts. Old, boring glass can be covered with decorative film or applied with an interesting pattern. It all depends on your imagination.
Glass with decorative film
One of the easiest ways is painting. If you have drawing skills, you can create stained glass windows. There are special paints for this type of art.

Work with the dye must be done with gloves.
First, the surface of the glass needs to be washed and degreased. Using a marker, draw the outline of the design and outline it with black paint from a tube. When it dries you can start painting. For lovers of glamor, rhinestones and stones, as well as pieces of glass, can be glued on top of the painting.
If the door is wooden, you can give it sophistication in another way - cut out solid circles or other shapes on the canvas and insert glass there. This procedure will not take much time, and the interior of the room will be fresher.
Adhesive tape
Updating interior doors with PVC film does not require much time or high costs. For self-adhesive, the surface must be flat, otherwise the beautiful appearance will be ruined.
Door with self-adhesive film
As preparation, before gluing, the surface of the door is washed and degreased. There is a glossy door, it can be wiped a little with a damp cloth. Such manipulations allow you to move the film on the surface to select the correct position.
Now you should cut the required size of self-adhesive paper and glue it to the surface of the door. There is no need to glue a large piece at once; the protective film should be removed a little at a time, smoothing the self-adhesive.
In this way, you can update not only the interior door, but also any furniture in the house - table, wardrobe, stool, etc.

Is it worth it to remove the casing yourself?
The procedure for removing the door card involves removing decorative trims and speaker grilles, which requires the installer to be careful.
Before starting work, it is recommended to watch videos made by car owners, which show the process of removing parts.
If a person does not have the necessary skills, then it is better to take the Renault Duster to a service center to repair locks, window regulators and other components located inside the door.
Choice of mastic
To seal the casing, synthetic mastic is used, which does not lose elasticity due to temperature changes. The sealant allows condensation and rainwater to drain into the lower part of the door frame, preventing moisture from entering the hidden cavities of the body and vehicle interior. Owners and service centers apply black silicone-based DoneDeal DD6715 mastic (supplied in tubes) to the edge of the upholstery, which can withstand cooling down to -75°C without compromising the integrity of the seam.
The plant uses original mastic 77014-23330, which is supplied to the spare parts market. The material is applied to a paper base; during repairs, it is enough to transfer the sealant to the door and install the trim.
The mastic does not lose strength under the influence of vibration loads and is resistant to the influence of petroleum products.
The process of dismantling the casing
To remove the card on the front doors you must:
Open the hood and disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery (after making sure that there is a code to unlock the factory radio).
- Use a spatula to remove the speaker grille, and then remove the 4 speaker mounting screws.
- Pull it out of the door and disconnect the wiring harness by pressing on the plastic block retainer.
- Use a plastic spatula to remove the decorative plug located on the armrest, and then use a Torx screwdriver to remove the screw located under the cover.
- Carefully pry up and remove the outer decorative panel located on the armrest handle. The overlay is held by clamps, which are sequentially removed from the guide holes (starting from the bottom edge).
- Unscrew the screw securing the card to the door frame, located under the trim.
- Remove another screw, the head of which is openly located in the niche for the door lock handle.
- Remove the handle body from the hole in the door card. Remove the metal rod going to the door lock. To disconnect the wire rod, you need to rotate the front edge of the casing with the handle upward, while simultaneously pulling the rod end out of the mounting hole.
- Use a spatula to pry off the block of buttons for controlling the window motors, and then disconnect the electrical wiring harness block (the plug is equipped with a plastic safety latch).
- Unscrew the trim fastening screw located on the end side of the door.
- Place the spatula in the gap between the lower edge of the casing and the metal frame. Pull back the edge, disengaging the plastic pins from the edges of the mounting holes.
- Insert a knife blade into the gap formed and carefully cut the layer of factory sealant, while unfastening the pistons.
- Separate the fasteners from the door that hold the trim near the mirror and along the lower edge of the window opening (in total, the design provides 11 pistons located along the perimeter of the casing at an equal distance).
- Lift the trim up, removing the door lock control from the soldier, and then remove the trim from the door.
- Carefully remove residual mastic from the surface of the door frame and trim mechanically. Organic solvents should not be used due to the risk of staining or damaging the paintwork.
Is the procedure different for the rear and front doors?
On the rear doors of some Renault Duster cars, mechanical window drives are used. To remove the handles, use an original tool or a screwdriver with a thin flat blade. Using a tool, you need to disconnect the handle from the casing, and then compress the spring clamp (the fastener will be visible through the resulting gap).
Afterwards, you need to pull the handle towards you, removing the element from the roller of the glass adjustment mechanism. Further actions are similar to the process of removing the trim on the front doors.
Disassembling the door in case of moisture penetration
The manufacturer introduced sealing of the lower edge of the door panel, preventing water from entering the vehicle interior. The liquid flows into the inner cavity of the door, and then drains through drainage channels along the surface of the threshold in the opening to the street. But if the integrity of the mastic layer is damaged, water enters the car interior, and stagnation of moisture inside the door causes corrosion of steel elements and oxidation of electrical wiring harnesses.
The sequence of actions when installing a protective film in the rear doors of Renault Duster:
- Remove the casing and remove any remaining sealant.
- Wipe the internal cavities of the door from traces of moisture and dirt.
- Apply a layer of anti-corrosion agent (standard Movil).
- Attach a layer of polyethylene (film for greenhouses) to the surface of the door. Provide cuts at the locations of electric window drives, since polyethylene that gets into the mechanism will jam the gears. Similar cutouts are made near the door handle and around the loudspeaker of the acoustic system.
- Apply a layer of sealant from the tube, checking the uniformity of the strip (breaks are not allowed).
- Reinstall the cover and secure all removed parts.
- Perform a test run by applying water to the bottom edge of the door glass using a portable pressure washer or a plastic bottle. When the repair is carried out correctly, the liquid flows out through the standard drainage holes without flooding the car interior.
Owners of Renault Duster cars do not complain about the problem of water leaking into the passenger compartment through the front doors, but since the design of the units is unified, it is recommended to lay a layer of film on the front. Additional anti-corrosion treatment reduces the risk of destruction of the metal frame. At the same time, a layer of noise-insulating material is installed on the surface of the card, which increases acoustic comfort in the Renault Duster cabin and reduces vibrations of plastic elements when listening to music at high volumes.
Why do you need metal door trim?
First of all, in order to preserve heat. As practice shows, the ubiquitous drafts entering through the door remove a third of the heat from the apartment. Re-upholstering metal doors will help tenants retain the coveted warmth, especially in the winter months. In addition, high-quality finishing is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate excellent taste to guests and neighbors.
This finish has several more advantages:
- It provides good sound insulation;
- Increases the structure’s resistance to moisture;
- It is easy to care for and helps hide surface defects.
Those living in the private sector often suffer from freezing of the front door. Door upholstery using polyethylene foam and shielded foil is a great way to avoid such unpleasant consequences. The specialists of our company will easily solve any problem; to do this, you should dial the dispatch service and describe your wishes.
