How much antifreeze is in Kalina - Lada Kalina replacing coolant (Antifreeze) 16 and 8 valves: how to drain antifreeze, volume

Preface. It looks like the coolant drain is different for 8 valve and 16 valve engines. On 16 valves it is necessary to remove the starter. Step-by-step instructions for 8 and 16 valves. (I have 16 cells, so it will also be useful for 8 cells when we flush the system at 21099).

Lada Kalina: instructions for replacing coolant AVTOVAZ recommends replacing the fluid in the cooling system of the Lada Kalina every 75 thousand km of the car or after five years, whichever comes first. Our illustrated step-by-step instructions will help you complete this procedure yourself.

It is more convenient to replace the coolant when the car is installed on an inspection ditch or overpass.

To access the drain holes from below, you must remove the middle mudguard of the engine compartment.

We place a wide container with a volume of at least 6 liters under the drain hole made in the lower part of the right radiator tank. To reduce the intensity of liquid drainage at the initial moment, the cap of the expansion tank should be tightly screwed on.

To increase the intensity of liquid drainage, unscrew the cap of the expansion tank.

Next, you need to drain the fluid from the cylinder block.

To drain the coolant from the cooling jacket of an 8-valve engine equipped with a traction drive gearbox, place a container under the drain hole located on the front side of the cylinder block below the ignition coil. (I came across a note that in order to avoid coolant getting on the ignition module in 8-valve engines, the module itself is removed out of harm’s way).

Therefore, the starter needs to be removed. Disconnect the wire terminal from the negative terminal of the battery. By pressing the latch of the wire block, disconnect the block from the traction relay connector. Remove the protective cap from the nut securing the tip of the wire connected to the positive cable of the battery.

We unscrew the plug and drain the coolant from the cylinder block.

We tighten the drain plugs of the radiator and cylinder block. The connection between the plug and the cylinder block uses a conical thread that does not require additional sealing. Tighten the drain plug of the cylinder block to a torque of 25–30 Nm. We pour the fluid recommended by the manufacturer into the engine cooling system through the expansion tank until it is full. Let's start the engine. With the engine running, vigorously compress all the hoses of the cooling system several times in turn - this will help the fluid fill the system and displace air from it. As the coolant level in the expansion tank drops, bring it to normal and screw on the tank cap. When the engine warms up, the outlet (lower) radiator hose should be cold for some time, and then quickly heat up, which will indicate the beginning of fluid circulation in a large circle. After waiting for the cooling system fan to turn on, stop the engine. After the engine has cooled, check the coolant level again and, if necessary, replenish the system.

Antifreeze or coolant is designed to cool all engine elements as a whole, namely the cylinder block, crankshaft and camshafts and, of course, other elements that belong to the cooling system. However, over time, antifreeze becomes unusable, gradually losing its properties, causing the engine to overheat prematurely and often, which can lead to its complete failure.

Choices

When choosing, do not neglect the color of the liquid. The color is intended to indicate certain properties of the antifreeze, so replace it only with an option with an identical color.

  • “AGA 003Z” (temperature minus 40 degrees), has a red color, costs approximately 1 thousand rubles. for a 10 liter container.
  • “Professional Premium” belongs to the “G-12” category, and the cost of a similar “tank” reaches 700 rubles.
  • “SINTEC LUX G-12” is also characterized by a red tint and costs from 1 thousand rubles. for a volume of 10 liters.
  • “FELIX Carbox-40”, a canister of the same volume with red liquid will cost the owner from 950 rubles.
  • "NIAGARA", substance "G12"; for a volume of 10 liters you will need to pay at least 800 rubles.
  • “Arctic Circle”, a substance with similar parameters; A 10-liter container costs at least 700 rubles.

Antifreeze from the above-mentioned manufacturers has proven itself quite well, so you can purchase it without the slightest hint of doubt.

Compatible coolants are those whose color matches. If this requirement is violated, refilling is not performed. At the same time, materials painted in the following two colors may be compatible: blue, green.

What is needed when replacing?

  • A suitable container in which about 8 liters will be collected.
  • Socket head size "16".
  • A socket-type wrench with dimension “13” for dismantling the starter in the 16-valve motor variation, does not touch the 8-valve motor.

Replacing antifreeze implies a cooled engine; before you begin, you need to know how to drain the antifreeze. Before starting the procedure, it is recommended to reset the pressure level in the circuit, which will require opening the cap on the neck of the expansion tank. For easy access to the drain hole, you will need to remove the crankcase protection.

Coolant replacement

Note that the technology for replacing the refrigerant in versions of LADA Kalina with an 8-valve engine is somewhat different from the sequence of work on variations of 16-valve engines. In the latter case, to provide access to the block drain plug, you will need to remove the starter fasteners. And before work, we’ll find out how to drain antifreeze correctly.

Procedure for 8-valve Kalinas

  1. We release the pressure in the previously indicated way.
  2. We dismantle the crankcase protection.
  3. We place the prepared container under the drain hole (located on the right side of the radiator).
  4. You can regulate the pressure of the drained stream of liquid by tightening or removing the plug on the tank. We carry out this manipulation, focusing on the situation.
  5. Having unscrewed the radiator cap, we wait for the liquid to completely drain.
  6. Now we move to the motor block.
  7. The drain plug is located under the ignition coil.
  8. To unscrew the specified plug, we use a 13-size wrench.
  9. We substitute the same container and collect the remaining liquid into it.

The antifreeze replacement is complete.

We change it to a 16-valve modification

As noted, to complete the procedure in full, you will need to dismantle the starter assembly. If this important manipulation is neglected, spilled liquid may penetrate into the starter unit through the open hole, causing its breakdown.

  1. We turn off the power supply to the LADA Kalina starter by disconnecting the block with cables from the solenoid relay on the unit body.
  2. On the positive terminal of the unit, remove the protective cap, then use a “13” key to unscrew the fixing nut, remove the terminal with the wire and move it to the side.
  3. Now you can use the same key to unscrew the 3 bolts that hold the unit to the block. We take out the starter.
  4. Next we move on to unscrewing the plug and dumping the refrigerant into the container.
  5. Having completed this stage of the process, screw the plug into its original place. The torque should not exceed 30 Nm.
  6. Using the previously indicated method, we drain the liquid from the radiator assembly.

After installing the plugs, we proceed to filling the system with the indicated liquid. We perform this action through the neck of the expansion tank. After this, we install the starter, start the power plant and, by pressing on the pipes, help the fluid begin circulating in the circuit faster. At the same time, we check the level using the marks on the tank. It should be located between the “Min” and “Max” marks. The antifreeze replacement has been successfully completed.

Determining Thermostat Operation

After warming up the LADA Kalina engine, carefully touch the lower outlet hose of the radiator assembly. Its heating will indicate the presence of refrigerant circulation in the so-called large circle. After the system fan turns off, removing heat from the radiator honeycombs, turn off the engine and note the level in the previously indicated tank.

Now the procedure for replacing the fluid in a Lada Kalina car can be considered completely completed.

If it is discovered that the cap on the designated reservoir is not sealing properly, it should be replaced immediately after replacing the coolant.

Product options:

  • cover with code “2108 2108-1311065” in the “Autodevice” version; cost not less than 150 rubles;
  • a product with the article number “2108 LUZAR LL 0108” at a price of about 100 rubles;
  • lid made by "Chistopol" with code "2108-1311065" at a cost of 70 rubles.

Replacing the coolant in the Lada Kalina car is complete, and now check the circuit for leaks. If it is present, then replace the clamps that hold the joint sections of the pipes.

During the operation of a Lada Kalina car, it may be necessary to replace the coolant. Today I would like to talk about how to do this.

To replace antifreeze on Kalina we will need:

Key to "13"

Screwdriver

Coolant

Empty container for draining old antifreeze

Let's proceed to replacing the tholos on the Lada Kalina

First, you should place the car on a flat, horizontal platform. If there is no such platform, then the front part must be higher than the back.

Disconnect the negative cable from the battery

Remove the engine splash guard

Now you need to unscrew the expansion tank cap.

Now you should install a pre-prepared container for the old coolant under the drain plug. Then you should unscrew the drain plug. Remember, if the car is warm, you need to be very careful, the coolant is very hot. After the fluid has been drained, any traces of it should be wiped off the cylinder block.

Now you need to drain the old fluid from the radiator. To do this, install a container for the old coolant under the radiator, unscrew the drain plug located on the radiator and wait until the antifreeze completely drains from the system.

After the coolant has drained, the drain plugs should be screwed into place.

Disconnect the throttle body hose and start pouring antifreeze into the expansion barrel until it begins to flow out of the throttle hose, at which point put it in place. Fill in coolant until the antifreeze level in the expansion tank is between the minimum and maximum marks.

Reinstall the battery negative

Now you should check everything, start the engine and let it warm up until the cooling fan turns on. After this, you should stop the engine and, if necessary, add coolant to the expansion tank.

In the video, replacing antifreeze with flushing the cooling system on a Lada Kalina:

Replacing antifreeze on Lada Kalina

This is what a used one looks like. Antifreeze, very tired

The entire cooling system of the Lada Kalina engine contains 7.6-7.8 liters of antifreeze, and according to official instructions it should be changed every 60,000 kilometers or five years of operation, whichever comes first.

Possible option for replacing standard antifreeze

Lada Kalina cars are filled with Felix Carbox 40 antifreeze, red, from the factory. Therefore, it is up to you to decide what kind of antifreeze to fill in during a complete replacement, the main thing is that your desires coincide with the temperature range in which the car is operated.

Tool for the job

In order to carry out all the work, we will need the following:

  • New antifreeze (coolant) in the amount of 8 liters.
  • Crosshead screwdriver.
  • The key is "13".
  • Socket head for “13” and “17” with ratchet.
  • Container for draining waste liquid.
  • Rags.

Step-by-step process for draining antifreeze

Before you begin work on replacing the fluid, you must place the car on a flat surface or on a slight slope, provided that the front part is higher than the rear. Also take into account the fact that the machine’s engine must be cold to prevent the possibility of getting burned during operation, so it is best to carry out such work in the morning, after the machine has cooled down overnight.

The process of filling new antifreeze

When all the plugs are tightened, you can begin the operation of filling in new coolant.

  1. First of all, loosen the clamp and take out the throttle hose. This is necessary so that during replacement, excess air escapes through this hose.
  2. Next, fill in antifreeze until it flows out of the disconnected hose, or until the liquid level remains unchanged in the expansion tank.

Final works

  • The last step in replacing antifreeze on a Lada Kalina will be to replace the ignition module, connect wires to it, and check all plugs and connections for leaks.
  • Next, start the engine and check the result of the work. To do this, you need to wait until the engine warms up and the Carlson starts working. Then we check the operation of the heater to ensure that hot air is blowing into the cabin; if it blows warm air, this means that an air lock has formed in the system.
  • It is also necessary to take into account the fact that when the engine cools down, it is necessary to recheck the coolant level and, if necessary, add it.

conclusions

As you can see for yourself, there is nothing difficult about changing antifreeze yourself; even the driver who is far from car repair can perform such work.

The first step when starting work is to remove the cap from the expansion tank.

On a cold engine there will be no pressure under the cap.

  • Next, we install a pre-prepared container for draining the liquid (a basin with a capacity of 10 liters is perfect).
  • On VAZ-11183, VAZ-21116 and VAZ-11186 engines, before getting to the drain plug, you will need to remove the bracket together with the ignition coil, since during draining liquid may get on it and the module will fail.
  • To dismantle the coil you only need to unscrew 2 bolts and loosen 1.
  • First of all, unscrew the right bolt, located closer to the gearbox housing.
  • The second one is located in the center and can be easily removed thanks to the key set to “13”.
  • And the last bolt is located at the very bottom on the left side of the bracket; it is not necessary to unscrew it, just loosen it by 2/3.
  • When the module does not fix anything, we lift it together with the body and place it in such a way that it does not interfere. Next, you can continue working on draining the liquid.
  • We unscrew the drain plug on the engine block using a spanner and wait for the moment when everything flows out.

New Lada: Real gas consumption of Lada Granta

To unscrew this plug, you will need a key set to “13”.

Next, unscrew the drain plug on the radiator, which is located on the right side, and wait for the antifreeze to pour out from there.

To avoid stripping the thread, unscrew the plug carefully.

  • And the last step in draining the liquid will be to replace the O-rings on the plugs and return them to their place.

Replacing Kalina coolant

Replacing antifreeze on Kalina occurs in several stages:

  1. drain the antifreeze.
  2. fill in new antifreeze.
  3. Remove air from the engine cooling system.

Place a container under the drain hole (in the lower part of the right radiator tank) with a volume of at least 6 liters.

  1. Unscrew the radiator drain plug by hand. Drain the antifreeze into a container. When draining the liquid, unscrew the cap of the expansion tank.
  2. The drain plug has a rubber O-ring. To drain the coolant from the engine cooling jacket, place a container under the drain hole located on the front side of the cylinder block, closer to the clutch housing.
  3. Unscrew the drain plug of the cylinder block using a 13mm wrench. Drain the antifreeze from the system.

We tighten the drain plugs of the radiator and cylinder block. We pour clean coolant (5-6 l) into the engine cooling system through the expansion tank.
With the engine running, vigorously compress all the hoses of the cooling system several times in turn, this will help the antifreeze fill the system and expel air from it. If the fluid level in the expansion tank is constantly decreasing, then there is most likely a leak in the cooling system. In this case, it is necessary to check the tightness of the cooling system and eliminate the malfunction (see “Cooling system”).

How to remove air from the cooling system grants

  1. Allow the engine to cool.
  2. Unscrew the expansion tank cap.
  3. Start the engine and let it run for 3-5 minutes.
  4. Close the tank lid.
  5. To better fill the system without air locks, periodically squeeze the radiator hoses by hand.

By the way, do you know what kind of antifreeze is poured into the Granta?

To avoid engine overheating, the owner of a Lada Kalina is recommended to constantly monitor the level of antifreeze in the cooling circuit. For this purpose, there are special marks on the body of the expansion tank. The level should not be below the minimum and above the maximum. If there is a gradual decrease in the amount of antifreeze, then there is a high probability that a fluid leak will appear.

How to replace coolant (antifreeze or antifreeze) on Lada Kalina

In order not to overheat the engine, you need to monitor the coolant level - depending on whether you have antifreeze or antifreeze filled. Monitor the fluid level in the expansion tank, and also check the pipes and their connections, as well as the pump, for signs of leakage. Complete replacement of the filter according to the factory regulations is recommended once every 5 years or every 75 thousand km.

Which antifreeze to choose and what volume is needed

To completely replace the coolant in a 2nd generation Lada Kalina/Kalina car, you need 7.8 liters of antifreeze or antifreeze, depending on what you choose. Felix red antifreeze is poured from the factory.

To completely replace the coolant (coolant), we will need to purchase either one 10 liter canister or two 5 liter canisters.

Choosing antifreeze to replace

If red antifreeze was added from the factory, then we recommend replacing it with red one.

  • AGA 003Z (-40*) red 10l price from 1000 rub.
  • Professional Premium G-12 red 10 l price from 700 rub.
  • SINTEC LUX G-12 red 10l price from 1000 rub.
  • FELIX Carbox-40 (10 l) red price from 950 rub.
  • NIAGARA G12 (10 l) red price from 800 rub.
  • Arctic Circle G12 (10 l) red price from 700 rub.

What is needed for replacement

  • Container for draining old antifreeze for 6-8 liters
  • 16mm head
  • 13mm socket wrench for removing the starter on the 16 valve version of Kalina

It is better to replace it with a cold engine. Before starting the replacement, you should release the pressure in the system by unscrewing the cap of the expansion tank. In order to freely access the drain plug, it is necessary to remove the middle mud flap.

Instructions for replacing Coolant

On Kalinas with 8 and 16 valve engines, the coolant replacement is different. You can drain the old fluid from the radiator without any problems, but from the block on a 16-valve engine it is more difficult. You will have to unscrew the starter.

Replacing antifreeze on an 8-valve Lada Kalina engine

So, we relieve the pressure in the system by unscrewing the cap of the expansion tank. Then remove the engine protection to get to the drain plug.

We take a container with a volume of 6-8 liters and place it under the drain hole located at the bottom right of the radiator. To make the pressure weaker, screw the expansion tank cap back on.

Unscrew the drain plug on the radiator and allow the liquid to completely drain from the radiator.

Draining fluid from the cylinder block on an 8 valve engine

On an 8-valve engine with a traction drive gearbox, draining the old coolant is quite simple. The drain plug is located under the ignition coil.

Using the “13” socket, unscrew the drain plug, place the container and drain the liquid.

Drain the liquid from the cylinder block on a 16 valve engine

To get to the drain plug you will need to remove the starter. If you do not remove the starter, but unscrew the plug and drain the liquid, it will flow directly onto it, which can lead to failure.

Disconnect the wiring block from the traction relay on the starter. Remove the protective cap from the positive wire, and using a 13 mm wrench, unscrew the nut and remove the wire.

Now all that remains is to unscrew the drain plug and drain the coolant from the cylinder block.

After the liquid has been drained from the block, tighten the drain plug with a force of 25–30 Nm. We also tighten the radiator cap and fill the coolant through the expansion flank until it is full.

We start moving and begin to put pressure on all the pipes, thereby stimulating a better passage of antifreeze or antifreeze and filling the entire system. Do not forget to monitor the liquid level in the barrel, which should be between Min and Max.

How to determine if the thermostat is working

When the engine warms up, touch the lower outlet pipe. It will be cold, and then should quickly heat up, which indicates that the coolant has begun to circulate in a large circle. Keep an eye on the fan, as soon as it turns on and brings down the temperature, turn off the engine and check the coolant level in the expansion tank.

This completes the antifreeze replacement.

If the expansion tank cap leaks and does not hold pressure, it should be replaced

How to find the reason

Start checking with the electric motor. To do this, disconnect the electrical wires from it and connect it directly to the battery, observing the polarity. If the fan does not turn on, that is the problem. If it works, you need to look for another reason.

Check all contacts on the connectors, and then the relay and fuse. They are located in an additional mounting block, which is located to the right of the instrument panel near the lower heater air duct.

The fuse (50 A) can be checked with a tester; it is better to take a relay that is known to be working and install it in the appropriate socket. If the problem is not solved, move on.

Checking the temperature sensor. To do this, warm up the engine to operating temperature, turn it off and disconnect the sensor. It is located on top of the thermostat housing. When the sensor is disabled, the controller must independently start the fan to operate continuously.

Start the engine and wait for the fan to turn on. If the coolant temperature has reached a critical value and the fan does not turn on, you need to look for a break in the electrical wiring.

If you have determined that the problem is in the fan itself, or rather in its electric motor, you can try to repair it. Most often, it stops working due to failure of the brushes, or due to problems with the rotor bearings. Less often the collector becomes unusable or a break occurs in the winding.

If the fan cannot be repaired, it must be replaced.

Under no circumstances should you drive a car with a non-functioning fan. Overheating of the engine will inevitably lead to the destruction of the rubber hoses of the cooling system, gaskets, and also threatens the failure of parts of the piston group.

Replacing coolant on Kalina

Welcome! Coolant - thanks to it, the cooling system cools the entire car engine, and this includes the crankshaft itself, as well as the camshaft, cylinder block and other parts that directly relate to the car engine cooling system, but over time the liquid itself that is poured into the system comes becomes unusable and thereby loses its properties, and there are quite a few properties in it, that is, the properties include essentially all the additives that are mixed with each other and a coolant is obtained, these additives have their own validity period, after which they begin to act very poorly and therefore the car begins to overheat much more often, and due to severe overheating, as you already know, the engine can become unusable in a very short time.

Note! In order to change the fluid in the system, you will need to stock up on: A repair kit, in which you will have spanners, hex keys, as well as wrenches and screwdrivers; in addition, we recommend that you take a clean rag with you, which you will quickly use Clean up traces of spilled liquid on yourself and on the car engine!

  • Coolant replacement
  • Additional video clip

When should you change the coolant? Someone says that it needs to be changed strictly according to the regulations, someone says it can be changed later, who should we believe here? In fact, some people change the fluid immediately after filling it, have you guessed what this is connected with? Recently, as before, a lot of fakes have been produced for auto parts, and the liquid that cools the engine of a car also applies here, so when choosing a new liquid, be extremely careful and do not go to the store as if you were going there for bread. (If you want to find out how you can recognize whether a liquid is fake or not, then read the article written just for this reason, and it’s called: “Detailed information about Antifreeze and Antifreeze”)

Well, we figured out the purchase of the fluid, but the timing of its replacement is still not known to you (Because we haven’t talked about them yet), so if you follow the factory’s recommendation, the fluid needs to be changed every 75 thousand km or after 3 years have passed from the moment you fill the fluid, but this is a deadline; if possible, we recommend that you change the fluid a little more often (we’ll talk about this a little later), if you don’t change the fluid to a new one on time, then in addition to the fact that the car will constantly heat up, additives will also no longer have any effect, and thanks to additives alone, the cooling system is protected from premature corrosion and other unfavorable things.

Note! So, when do you need to change the fluid, you wonder, well, firstly, it is recommended to change it either according to the factory’s recommendation, or according to how the fluid looks, that is, first you will need to unscrew the cap on the expansion tank (the tank is indicated by an arrow), when the cap is not there, look into the tank and if the liquid in the tank changes its color to another (rust color, or red-brown color), then this means that it has become unusable and needs to be replaced, in addition, if an oil film has formed on the surface of the liquid, then the liquid also needs in replacement!

How to replace coolant on a VAZ 1117-VAZ 1119?

Note! It is necessary to replace the fluid itself only on a cold engine, because it is very hot when the engine warms up, for example, at the operating temperature of the engine, the fluid heats up to about 100 degrees and if it gets on the skin, it can easily leave burns, so be careful and also In addition, if you suddenly want the liquid to cool faster by unscrewing the cap on the expansion tank (Some people do this), then when you rotate the cap, do it very carefully and smoothly, and completely remove the cap only if the hissing sound disappears because if you If you suddenly begin to unscrew the cap, the air inside the tank will knock out the cap and the liquid itself in a column outward, and then your entire car will get dirty and you will burn yourself!

In addition, the liquid is very toxic, so you need to drain it into a container that can be closed and then throw this container away not in a bucket, but only in a landfill!

Draining: 1) At the very beginning of the operation, drive the car into the inspection hole and ensure that it stands level, or if you do not have such an opportunity, then position the car so that the front part is higher than the rear.

Note! When the car is installed, slow it down with everything you can, that is, with the handbrake, set it to speed and if it stands at an angle, we recommend throwing more stones under the rear wheels, and after the car is stopped, remove the mudguard and crankcase protection from it if you have it! (For information on how to remove the mudguard, read the article: “Replacing the engine mudguard”, and remove the crankcase protection yourself, since we see no point in writing instructions for its removal, because it is not installed from the factory and is installed by people who, in our opinion, can remove it, because they installed it)

In fact, the mudguard and protection don’t need to be removed at all, but simply when you drain the used liquid, it will firstly flow onto the mudguard and protection, and secondly, due to the fact that it will pour on them, it will also flow into the container accordingly, it will not get on as it will spread over the surface of the mudguard and protection, but still, if you are 100% sure that the liquid will not get on the mudguard and protection, then you can not remove it from the car at all!

2) Then you will need to unscrew the nut that secures the minus terminal to the battery, do not neglect this requirement and disconnect the terminal, since during the removal process you will have to work with the ignition module, which will need to be removed from the car. (For information on how to remove the terminal, see the first paragraph, “here in this article”)

Note! When the terminal is removed, remove the ignition module from the car by unscrewing all the hex bolts that secure it; for more information on how to remove the module, read the article: “Replacing the ignition module on a VAZ”! (This only applies to 8 valve machines; for 16 valve machines, the module does not need to be removed)

3) Next, unscrew the cap of the same expansion tank that is indicated in the photo above by the arrow, and then place any container under the drain plug of the cylinder block (This plug is indicated in the photo below by the arrow) and unscrew this plug using a spanner wrench, and drain all the liquid from the block into the previously placed container, after that do exactly the same operation, but you will have to drain the remaining liquid not from the block, but from the radiator of the cooling system, there is a plug on the radiator that can be unscrewed by hand and not with a key, so under it Place the container in the same way and then unscrew the cap (see small photo) and all the remaining liquid is drained into the prepared container.

Note! The liquid from the drain hole will drain, dirtying the cylinder block, so take a cloth and dry it after the liquid has drained, wipe all the places where the liquid got in!

4) When the coolant has been drained from all the drain holes, tighten both plugs and then move to the throttle assembly, on it you will find a hose that goes to drain the coolant (see photo), and on this hose there is a clamp that you need will loosen, and then disconnect the hose from the throttle assembly fitting by hand (the fitting is indicated by an arrow).

Note! This operation must be carried out necessarily, it is necessary so that air pockets do not form in the cooling system (Air plugs are air that gets into the pipes and because of it the liquid cannot go all into the expansion tank and thus the engine will warm up more often, because that there will be air in the cooling system instead of the required fluid level), and besides, with air pockets, the stove heats very poorly!

Filling: 1) First, you start yourself or ask an assistant if you have one, to start pouring liquid into the expansion tank, and at this time you hold the drain hose that was previously disconnected from the throttle assembly and as soon as liquid begins to flow out of it, connect it to its place and then tighten the clamp that secures it thoroughly.

Note! Continue to fill the liquid until it reaches the MAX mark on the expansion tank, and when it reaches it, stop pouring and screw the cap on the tank, just wrap it well (you don’t need to go crazy either, otherwise you can tear off the threads, and in fact, if you screw it on too tightly, the pressure it simply will not be able to come out of the tank and therefore it may burst), for more details on how to screw the cap correctly, see the video below, but only there a different car is used than Kalina!

How to change the coolant (antifreeze or antifreeze) on a Lada Kalina

In order not to overheat the engine, you need to monitor the level of cooling water, making sure that you have antifreeze or antifreeze in it. Watch the water level in the expansion tank, and also check the pipes and their connections, as well as the pump, for signs of leakage. According to the factory regulations, a complete replacement of the filter is recommended once every 5 years or every 75 thousand kilometers.

Which antifreeze to choose and what volume is needed

To completely change the cooling water in a Lada Kalina/Kalina 2nd generation car you need 7.8 liters

antifreeze or antifreeze, depending on what you choose. Reddish Felix antifreeze is poured from the factory.

To completely replace the coolant (cooling water), we will need to purchase either one 10-liter canister, or two 5-liter containers.

Choosing antifreeze to replace

If reddish antifreeze was poured from the factory, then we recommend creating a replacement with reddish one.

  • AGA 003Z (-40*) reddish 10l cost from 1000 rub.
  • Professional Premium G-12 reddish 10 l cost from 700 rub.
  • SINTEC LUX G-12 reddish 10l cost from 1000 rub.
  • FELIX Carbox-40 (10 l) red price
    from 950 rub.
  • NIAGARA G12 (10 l) red price
    from 800 rub.
  • Arctic Circle G12 (10 l) red price
    from 700 rub.

What is needed for replacement

  • Container for draining old antifreeze for 6-8 liters.
  • 16mm head
  • 13mm socket wrench for removing the starter on the 16 valve version of Kalina

It is better to create a replacement for a cool engine. Before replacement, you should release the pressure in the system by unscrewing the cap of the expansion tank. In order to freely access the drain plug, you need to remove the middle mud flap.

Antifreeze for VAZ Kalina 1119

In Lada Kalina, the coolant must be replaced on a regular basis every 50 thousand kilometers. It is worth remembering that when operating a car in difficult urban or extreme conditions, the coolant should be replaced more often, because the engine operates under increased loads and the antifreeze reaches its potential faster.

In order to choose a high-quality coolant for the Lada Kalina, you must give preference to the original manufacturer, for example, the Cool Stream brand. The car owner should remember that before updating the refrigerant, the used coolant must be drained and the system flushed with a special compound or distilled water. This is, first of all, necessary to remove suspended matter, metal shavings from the bottom of the system and the remains of old liquid.

Note!

Why does it flow

Instructions for replacing Coolant

On Kalinas with 8 and 16 valve engines, the coolant replacement is different. Old fluid can be drained from the radiator without any problems, but from the block on a 16 valve engine

more difficult. You will have to unscrew the starter.

The time has come to change the coolant and the question arose whether to fill in Antifreeze or Tosol

, and how did you do it...

Replacing antifreeze on an 8-valve Lada Kalina engine

So, we relieve the pressure in the system by unscrewing the cap of the expansion tank. Then we remove the motor protection to get to the drain plug.

We take a container with a volume of 6-8 liters. and place it under the drain hole located at the bottom right of the radiator. To make the pressure weaker, screw the expansion tank cap back.

We unscrew the drain plug on the radiator and allow one hundred percent of the water to drain from the radiator.

On an 8 valve engine

With a traction drive gearbox, draining the old coolant is quite easy. The drain plug is located under the ignition coil.

Using a 13mm socket, unscrew the drain plug, replace the container and drain the liquid.

We start moving and begin to put pressure on all the pipes, thereby stimulating the best passage of antifreeze or antifreeze and filling the entire system. Don’t forget to look at the liquid level in the barrel, which should be between Min and Max.

Tips and tricks

If it is discovered that the cap on the designated reservoir is not sealing properly, it should be replaced immediately after replacing the coolant.

  • cover with code “2108 2108-1311065” in the “Autodevice” version; cost not less than 150 rubles;
  • a product with the article number “2108 LUZAR LL 0108” at a price of about 100 rubles;
  • lid made by "Chistopol" with code "2108-1311065" at a cost of 70 rubles.

Replacing the coolant in the Lada Kalina car is complete, and now check the circuit for leaks. If it is present, then replace the clamps that hold the joint sections of the pipes.

Antifreeze replacement in domestic Lada Kalina cars is carried out every 5 years, or after 75,000 km. This task can be completed ahead of schedule when the color of the coolant changes, the radiator is repaired, there is a leak in the system, as well as when other work is performed in the engine cooling system.

Which antifreeze is better and how much to fill in Lada Kalina?

To completely replace antifreeze in a Kalina/Kalina 2 car, you will need 7.8 liters of coolant. At the factory, the manufacturer pours a red composition of the Felix type. To carry out the work, you need to purchase a 10-liter canister of antifreeze or two small containers of 5 liters each.

If the manufacturer filled it with red coolant, then it is not advisable to change it to a composition of another color. Alternatively, the following products can be used:

  • SINTEC Luxury G-12 is a red antifreeze, sold in a 10 liter container.
  • NIAGARA G12, red, 10 l.
  • FELIX Carbox-40. Color - red, 10 l.
  • Arctic Circle G12 and others.

All of the above compounds have shown their best performance, so they can be used in Lada Kalina cars.

Replacement process

To replace antifreeze, prepare a standard set of tools. You will need a container for draining the old coolant with a volume of 6-8 liters, a sixteen socket wrench (for dismantling the starter on a car with a 16-valve engine), as well as a sixteen socket.

Replacing antifreeze should be done on a cold engine, which reduces the risk of burns. To begin, release the pressure in the cooling system by unscrewing the expansion tank tube. To gain access to the drain plug, remove the middle mud shield.

How to determine if the thermostat is working

When the engine warms up, touch the lower outlet pipe. It will be cool, and then should quickly heat up, which indicates that the coolant has begun to circulate in a large circle. Keep an eye on the fan, as soon as it turns on and brings down the temperature, turn off the engine and check the coolant level in the expansion tank.

This completes the antifreeze replacement.

Coolant must be poured into the Lada Kalina car in order for it to perform several of its functions, such as maintaining the temperature (temperature sensor), cooling the engine, and it must also eliminate the unpleasant odor that enters the cabin from the street. For all these “moments” to work 100%, Kalina antifreeze must be replaced on time.

Several additional functions that coolant performs:

  1. Maintains normal temperature (temperature sensor) during engine operation.
  2. Maintains low temperature (temperature sensor) in PC operation. Using hydraulic fluid, which must be poured into the automatic transmission.
  3. The interior is heated in winter. Due to the fact that antifreeze passes through the heater, it provides warmth in the car. The liquid heated by the motor is inflated by a fan. And thus, the interior warms up in winter.
  4. Eliminates unpleasant odor in the driver's cabin (passenger compartment).

Adding liquid to the tank
So if you smell any of these signs, even a fleeting, incomprehensible odor, then you need to think about it and replace the liquid substance. Also, Lada Kalina cars should be replaced every two years or every 45,000 km, see whichever comes first. Because over time, the quality deteriorates and the element may succumb to corrosion.

conclusions

As you can see for yourself, there is nothing difficult about changing antifreeze yourself; even the driver who is far from car repair can perform such work.

According to the maintenance regulations for Lada cars, the coolant (antifreeze, antifreeze) should be changed every 75 thousand km. mileage or after 5 years, whichever comes first. At this moment, it is important to choose the right liquid correctly, then there will be no comments about it for the same amount of time.

How to change coolant

Before changing the coolant, you need to figure out where the procedure is located, how many liters need to be filled, where the indicator should be located and how to determine the level. You need to find the expansion tank. It is located in the engine compartment, on the mudguard on the left, in the area of the bracket and is held on by clamps.

Then purchase 10 liters of antifreeze or antifreeze. Which is better, judge for yourself. Antifreeze is slightly inferior in functionality to antifreeze; moreover, antifreeze is mostly sold ready-made, which makes it much easier to use. Choose only high-quality and reliable products. Before the replacement begins, you should pay attention to the smell, the temperature sensor and the fluid level. All this indicates an immediate “replacement” procedure.

How to check the level:

  • unfasten the rubber belt;
  • unscrew the cap on the tank and measure the level;

The normal level should fluctuate somewhere around 3-4 mm above, if this is not the case, then you should replace the coolant on Kalina.

Why does it flow

If the level of the recently filled substance began to decrease sharply, then this action may be the consequence of some breakdowns. Now we will look at them.

  1. The pipe is cracking; in this case, you need to check the clamps and tighten them tighter.
  2. Mechanical damage in the radiator, the situation can be corrected by welding or gluing the necessary parts.
  3. The pump has broken down, or rather the pump has worn out; in this situation the pump will have to be replaced.
  4. The most difficult failure to fix is when the element leaks from under the head. With this breakdown, you will most likely have to contact a service center, where they will disassemble the engine and repair the head.
  5. The leak occurs directly into the interior of the car, try to look under the carpet on the driver or passenger side, if it is wet or damp, it means that the element is leaking here.
