Connecting fog lights on a VAZ 2114. Connecting fog lights via a relay: diagram, step-by-step instructions

So, we installed the fog lights, now we have a choice: pay 1000-1500 rubles to an electrician, or connect the PTFs myself... I decided to do it myself...

It's never too late to go to an electrician...

So, we have this set, the cost is from 250 to 350 rubles.

1) under the dashboard we find the connector for the PTF key. It comes from the factory, depending on whether it is luxury or standard.

2) We install the PTF relay under the hood, securing it to the partition of the engine compartment with the air intake (where the mounting block is installed)

3) You need to unscrew 2 nuts on the mounting block (marked in red), lift it up, find 2 terminal blocks, 7 and 8! ((on the block below next to the pads there are numbers that correspond to the pad number))

5) We stretch the positive wires to the PTF through the engine compartment. and attach the ground wires to the PTF to the headlight mounting nut.

Well, then we insert the “mother” of the wires from the numbers of the PTF relay legs in exactly this order!:

And you will be happy!

Everything works great! The fog lights come on when the lights are on!

One of the most unpleasant and dangerous natural phenomena for road users is fog. In poor visibility conditions, the likelihood of vehicle collisions increases. Equipping your car with fog lights allows you to drive in any weather conditions. You can install and connect such lighting devices to a VAZ 2113, 2114, 2115 at a car service center, but doing it yourself will cost much less.

What are fog lamps for?

The main task of the PTF is to illuminate the space in front of the car. Correctly adjusted “fog lights” can illuminate a section of road 10–15 meters long. This distance is quite enough for safe movement by car in poor visibility conditions. The switching on and off of such lighting devices must be fully controlled by the driver.

Adjustment of fog lights is carried out during their installation. The procedure does not take much time, but requires care and precision. You can install the rear and front PTFs yourself.

How can you install PTF on a VAZ 2113, 2114, 2115

Installation of fog lights on a car can be done in different ways. The car owner chooses a specific option based on his own capabilities, preferences and wishes. There are three main ways to install PTF:

    Purchasing a bumper with pre-installed fog lights. Similar parts are presented in a wide variety at tuning studios, where they can be purchased and installed immediately. Adjustment and connection are carried out by service specialists. The disadvantage of this method is that the cost of the work is too high.

One way to install foglights is to buy a bumper with already built-in PTFs

If you decide to install fog lights on a Lada Samara car, then you will need PTF frames in the front bumper. From the factory, VAZ 2113, 2114, 2115 cars come with plugs instead of frames or without them at all. These frames for fog lights are original, they are installed in the bumper without modifications, so you will not have any problems with their installation. All factory colors of Lada Samara-2 are available. Attention! When ordering, in the “Order Comments” line, indicate the car paint code, or the name of the color specified in the technical passport.

Installation diagram of fog lights

The connection of fog lights is carried out according to certain rules. They, first of all, relate to the placement of PTF on the car. The locations for installing headlights are strictly defined.

Layout of daytime running lights

Manufacturers of modern car models pre-mark the PTF installation locations on the bumpers. As a rule, such lighting elements are most often available in the luxury version of the car. If the headlights themselves are missing, then their installation sites are closed with special plugs.

Distance at which fog lights can be placed

How to install a PTF: necessary materials and tools

Installation of fog lights, regardless of the chosen installation method, requires the presence of certain parts and tools, without which it is impossible.

What are the button and relay for?

A special button and relay are a must - “fog lights” are very powerful equipment for car electrical wiring. The absence of such parts can provoke high current loads on the terminals and the ignition switch, which will cause burnout of contacts, damage and overheating of the insulation protection and short circuit with failure of the electrical network.

In order to install fog lights on a VAZ, you need to assemble certain parts in advance or purchase a ready-made kit. The cost of such a set rarely exceeds one thousand rubles.

The PTF kit includes:

    wires with blocks and terminals for a specific VAZ model. There are three of them as standard: one connects the headlights, the second goes to the relay from the switch, and the third goes from the relay to the fuse box;

Which PTFs should you prefer? The headlights themselves are chosen by the driver to his taste, but the main thing when choosing is not to make a mistake with the power, so as not to overload the generator and the car’s electrical wiring. It is better not to purchase headlights with xenon: the generator has a certain power reserve, but is not designed for too high loads. Regular light bulbs will be sufficient.

How to install fog lights on a VAZ 2109?

So, the installation begins. To carry it out, you must first install the headlights in the intended location. After this, take the wire and connect it to the right fog lamp (positive terminal). Lead the wire into the engine compartment and connect it to the harness running under the radiator. Bring this to the left fog lamp of the VAZ 2109, and then make a connection with its lamp. Insulate all bare areas; for this it is best to use heat shrink.

Connection to standard mounting block 2109

Next, the wire must be brought to the installation site of the electromagnetic relay, whose normally open contacts serve to supply voltage to the fog lights of the VAZ 2109. The plus from the battery comes to one terminal through a 16 Ampere fuse, from the second it will be removed and go to the fog lights connected in parallel.

Two wires are connected to the contacts of the relay coil: one immediately to ground, and the second lead to the button in the cabin. Now all that remains is to supply negative power to both fog lights of the VAZ 2109, and apply positive power to the second contact of the button from the ignition switch (to prevent the fog lights from turning on when the ignition is off).

PTF connection - diagram for any car

Now I would also like to make a visual notification about the inclusion of fog lights on the VAZ 2109 on the dashboard. Unfortunately, not all modifications have an indicator lamp built into the panels. But you can cheat - if you have a carburetor, and there is a lamp indicating an engine error, then you can use it (as an option - a seat belt indicator).

This lamp must be connected to the break in the wire going to the ignition switch. You will get a closed circuit, but if the indicator lamp or relay coil fails, the fog lights on the VAZ 2109 will not turn on.

How to connect fog lights with your own hands

Before directly installing the headlights, their location is determined. In the case of the VAZ 2115 car, the bumper already has standard holes for installing additional lighting fixtures. Similar ones can be cut in the bumpers of VAZ 2113 and VAZ 2114.

There is no need to spoil the appearance of the bumper - fog lights are easily installed on special brackets. Many PTF kits contain special decorative plugs that add attractiveness and neatness to the installed headlights and facilitate the installation process.

Installation and connection algorithm

  1. Installation of a power button in the car interior. In the case of the VAZ-2114, the place for the button is on the left side of the driver on the front panel. However, its placement can be arbitrary - the main thing is that it is convenient for the driver to drive the car. Often, PTF power buttons are installed instead of plugs on the control panel.

A PTF activation button is installed in the cabin in a place convenient for the driver.

The functionality of the entire connection can be checked by turning on the side lights - only then will the fog lights work.

Fog lights only function when the side lights are on

After completing the installation of the PTFs on the car, they only need to be adjusted correctly. The flow of light should not blind drivers in the oncoming lane.

Video: instructions for installing and connecting fog lights

Fog lights are essential lighting equipment on any car, making it easier to travel in conditions of minimal visibility. If there is no PTF on a certain car model, you can install them yourself. The installation procedure does not require special knowledge and can be carried out by the driver without the involvement of third parties.

Connecting PTF and control keys

The connection diagram that comes with the kit is simple and easy to understand.

Connection diagram for fog lights

First, we cut the wiring of these lighting devices into the mounting block installed under the hood, near the windshield on the right. To do this, unscrew the bolts securing this block and lift it to gain access to the pads, marked Ш7 and Ш8.

These blocks provide for the connection of fog lights, although they are not installed regularly. They connect the wiring from the headlights themselves, as well as from the relay included in the kit. All this needs to be connected correctly, and the diagram is as follows:

  • The wire coming out from pin “87” is ground and we connect it to the car body.
  • Pin “85” leads to block Ш7 (connects to connector 17).
  • Pins “30” and “86” are connected to block Ш8 (pin “30” - to connector 8, and “86” - to connector 1).

From the installed headlights, we lay the “positive” wire through the entire engine compartment, since they are connected to the Ш8 block, but only these wires are inserted into connectors 2 and 3.

Then we connect the pads to the mounting block, install the block itself in place, select a place for mounting the PTF relay not far from the mounting block.

The connection diagram for the foglight control is also simple - the kit includes a button that we install in a seat on the panel.

The factory provided the possibility of connecting these headlights, so there is a control block under the panel. For everything to work, you need to remove the panel, find the required block and connect it to the button. Afterwards the panel is put in place.

To check the functionality, turn on the side lights on the car, and then turn on the PTF. When the headlights are turned off, even if the fog light switch is pressed, they should go out.

Installing this lighting equipment on a VAZ 2114 with the right approach should not take much time. But the presence of working PTFs on a car will significantly improve the illumination of the road at night.

Where are the fuses and relays located?

The main part of the fuses and relays is located in the mounting block of the engine compartment.

To get to the block you need to press two latches and remove the cover

The most common reasons why the VAZ 2114 fog lights do not work are as follows:

  • fuse is blown;
  • burnt out light bulb(s);
  • oxidation of contacts occurred;
  • lost contact with the “mass”;
  • the button is faulty;
  • the relay has failed.

In addition, some other, rarer reasons are possible, which we will also consider below.

And so, the very first and most common reason is a blown fuse.

Each of the fog lights has its own fuse, namely F9 and F8 in the block, each of which is designed for a maximum current of 7.5 Amperes. In some cases, it happens that there are no fuses responsible for protecting the fog lights in the common block.

This happens when a car is purchased second-hand, and the PTFs were installed independently by its previous owner. In this case, you should inspect the entrance and the board on which the headlights themselves are located. Very often, during self-installation, the fuse is attached in this place.

K1 – headlight cleaner relay. If the headlight cleaners do not turn on, check fuses F1 and F7. Inspect the wiper mechanism; dust may have gotten into it or a stone has flown in, damaging or jamming its operation.

K2 – relay-interrupter for direction indicators and hazard warning lights. If your turn signals or hazard lights stop working, check fuses F2 and F16, this is a relay. If the hazard lights work but the turn signals do not, check the power handle, its contacts and connector. If only the emergency lights do not work, check the power button, contacts and wiring. Don't forget to check the turn signal bulbs. There may be a short circuit in one of the headlights. Carefully inspect the connectors and wiring for insulation damage.

Why do you need PTF on VAZ 2113, 2114, 2115

The fog is located above the surface of the earth (road) at some distance and this gap remains transparent. Thanks to the fog lights (FTL), a beam of light is formed: wide in the horizontal plane and narrow in the vertical plane. It is directed parallel to the roadway. When the fog lights are on, the fog is illuminated from below, which improves road illumination. Thanks to the wide beam, side markings and the curb are clearly visible, thereby reducing the risk of leaving the roadway.

Installing PTF provides better illumination of the roadside and side markings, reducing the risk of leaving the road

Some motorists have the mistaken opinion that fog lights with high lighting efficiency can only be yellow. In fact, the road is illuminated quite well by devices with both white and yellow glasses. The designated colors, compared to green, red or any other, are characterized by maximum light energy in the spectrum. However, it should be taken into account that when installing even the highest quality PTFs, visibility will be no more than 10 m in heavy fog. But since in such weather conditions the speed of movement is low, these indicators are quite sufficient. Sometimes vehicles are equipped with rear fog lights, the purpose of which is to improve the vehicle's visibility when driving in fog.

Methods for installing PTF on VAZ 2113, 2114, 2115

Installation of fog lights can be done in several ways. Which one to choose, each car owner decides for himself, based on his capabilities and preferences. Let's look at the most common installation options:

    Buying a front bumper with PTF. In this case, the headlights are sold already mounted in the front bumper. As a rule, a part can be purchased without any problems at a car tuning studio and immediately installed and connected. The disadvantages of this option include high financial costs.

Buying a bumper with PTF installed is the most expensive option for installing fog lights on a car.

When purchasing a bumper with holes for fog lights, you will need to purchase the lights themselves and all the necessary components for connection

The most common option for installing PTF is to purchase and then install a set of fog lights yourself.

PTF location diagram on a car

Before connecting the fog lights, it is important to install the devices correctly on the front of the car. This is done in accordance with certain rules, which clearly stipulate the location of the light source. On modern cars, the installation locations for fog lights are marked from the factory. Basically, such lighting elements are installed on more expensive car configurations. If the headlights were not installed from the factory, then the places for their installation are closed with plugs.

Fog lights on the front of the vehicle must be installed in accordance with established regulations

Is it possible to install xenon in PTF

Many car owners seek to install xenon in fog lights, arguing their actions by increasing lighting efficiency. Is this really true? Let's figure it out. First of all, when installing xenon in standard PTF housings, focusing is disrupted, which is due to a different operating principle in contrast to conventional lamps. Since standard fog lights are designed to operate with certain lamps, they simply cannot cope with xenon. The result of such changes will be too much reflection in the reflector, the rays are refracted, and the light becomes blurred. A well-known situation arises - the blinding of drivers of oncoming vehicles, which increases the risk of an accident. Installing xenon in PTF is far from the most successful solution and the effectiveness of such light is questionable, so it should be abandoned.

When installing xenon light in standard fog lights, focusing is disrupted, which leads to dazzling oncoming drivers

Video: how to choose fog lights

Choosing fog lights for VAZ 2113, 2114, 2115

How to choose PTF for Lada Samara 2? First, decide on the purpose of installing the PTF. Do you want an unpretentious option without complex installation processes? Then your choice is the original PTF for Lada 2113, 2114, 2115. Do you want to save money? Choose non-original kits from trusted manufacturers.

Do you want to stand out from the crowd or use PTF as a DRL? Your choice is diode fog lights of a regular or more elegant “boomerang” shape. Or maybe you will like “Eye of the Eagle”. By the way, this is a very popular position. There is also a PTF with lenses in chrome or black housings!

And, by the way, don’t forget about the wiring for installing PTF on your LADA Samara 2, as well as the frame for PTF, which we can paint especially for you in the body color of your favorite car.

LADA Samara 2 is a family of front-wheel drive cars produced by AVTOVAZ. The family appeared as a restyling of the first generation Lada Samara cars (VAZ 2108, 2109, 21099). Now cars of this family have already been discontinued.

Fog lights (FTL) used to perform one function - they provided visibility when driving in fog. But when turning on the lights during the daytime became mandatory, PTF had a new application (applies to cars that do not have DRLs). Until recently, fog lights were included on domestic cars as an additional option, while foreign cars were initially equipped with such a safety element. The VAZ 2114 car has PTF only on trim levels starting from Luxury.

It is also possible to install fog lights on VAZ cars. And this needs to be done, because when driving through fog or snow, fog lights are very helpful.

Installation of PTF is carried out in two ways:

  • Install a new bumper with cutouts for additional optics.
  • Cut the holes on the stock bumper yourself.

To install this type of optics, the following elements are required:

  1. Fog lights, many motorists choose the option with xenon.
  2. Installation components - button, wires, main relay and fuse.
  3. Tool for creating a hole for PTF or a new front bumper.

Installation and connection of front and rear PTFs on VAZ 2113, 2114, 2115

Before you begin installing fog lights, you will need to select a certain list of tools and additional elements. You can purchase a ready-made connection kit or select the necessary spare parts separately. When everything is prepared, you can mark on the front bumper a place for installing future headlights. The VAZ 2115 comes with standard holes from the factory, but in the case of the VAZ 2113 and VAZ 2114 you will need to work with a tool (a jigsaw or a drill). If you don’t want to damage the bumper, you can install the lighting fixtures on special brackets.

To install foglights in the front bumper, you need to make holes using a jigsaw or drill with drill bits, having previously completed the markings

Installation Tools

  • drill and drill bits;
  • electric jigsaw;
  • roulette;
  • marker.

Installation materials

As a rule, the kit for installing PTF on VAZ 2113, 2114, 2115 includes the following elements:

  • headlights with bulbs;
  • set of wires;
  • electromagnetic relay;
  • PTF power button;
  • ties and clips for fixing wires;
  • PTF connection diagram VAZ 2113, 2114, 2115.

The kit for connecting fog lights should include wires with terminals and connectors, a relay, a button

The installation of the lighting sources in question must be carried out using a button and an electromagnetic relay. The fact is that fog lights consume quite a lot of current and connecting directly to the ignition switch will lead to burning and subsequently burnout of the contacts. All this can contribute to damage to the wire insulation and the occurrence of a short circuit, which may result in failure of the electrical wiring.

Step-by-step installation and connection of PTF

To install fog lights, the following procedure must be followed:

    Installation of the headlight switch button in the cabin. You can choose any location for the element, as long as the driver can easily operate the key. Quite often, the part is installed instead of plugs on the dashboard.

The PTF activation key is usually located instead of one of the plugs located on the dashboard

Do-it-yourself algorithm for connecting PTF to a VAZ-2114

First, you should consider the mounting locations for the fog lights.

The VAZ-2115 bumper already has places for installing additional lights; by analogy, you can cut them out in the VAZ-2114 bumper.

You don’t have to be smart and install the headlights on the brackets without cutting the bumper, and some headlight sets include decorative and protective plugs that are easier to install, and such headlights will look neater.

Now the work progress:

  1. We install the button in the cabin . On all versions of the VAZ-2114 there is a place for a button on the tide to the left of the driver on the front panel. Although, the power button can be set arbitrarily, as long as it is convenient to use.

The button for turning on the fog lights can be installed on the panel instead of a plug

The circuit will definitely work when the side lights are on.

The fog lights will be on when the side lights are on.

All that remains is to adjust the direction of the light flow from the fog lights so that they do not blind oncoming drivers. The process of connecting and selecting fog lights on a VAZ-2114 is shown in more detail and clearly in the video. Good luck to everyone and bright lights.

Installation options

You can equip your VAZ 2114 with fog lights in several different ways:

  1. Purchase a ready-made tuned bumper with PTF already installed. This option is the simplest, but requires the highest financial costs (such bumpers are not cheap).
  2. Install a bumper from the 15th model on the car with ready-made windows for fog lights (the PTFs themselves will need to be purchased separately).
  3. Buy only fog lights and install them on your original bumper.

We will dwell on the latter method in more detail.

Installation methods

You can equip a VAZ-2114 with fog lights using several methods:

  1. Purchasing a tuning bumper
    with fog lights already installed.
    Such bumpers are usually made in a tuning studio, where they are installed and connected. It's expensive.
  2. Installation of a bumper from the VAZ 2115 model on a car with seats made for fog lights with the next purchase of a PTF kit and installation of them on the car yourself.
  3. Purchasing a set of fog lights and “glasses” - facing parts for these headlights, installing them yourself. Fog lights for a VAZ 2114 without replacing the bumper. Discussion of the topic on the forum “general automotive issues” e1.ru. Let's take a closer look at this method.

What you need for installation

To properly install the PTF VAZ 2114, you will need to assemble a certain set of components, without which the installation of fog lights is not only undesirable, but also harmful to the car.

It looks like this:

  • wires with terminals (a total of 3 wires are required: from the common block to the relay, from the relay to the switch, as well as a connecting wire between the two headlights);
  • mounting pads;
  • tie clamps;
  • PTF relay;
  • button;
  • actual fog lights.

Installing VAZ 2114 fog lights directly, without using a relay, is strictly not recommended. This will lead to an increased load on the on-board network, which, in turn, can cause damage to electronic equipment, short circuits and even a car fire.

In addition, in order to install a PTF on a car bumper, you will need to prepare a simple set of tools, namely:

  • electric jigsaw;
  • file;
  • electric drill;
  • roulette;
  • marker.

Also, during installation you will need several mounting bolts to secure the headlights to the plastic of the bumper.

Installing headlights

Before proceeding with installation, the bumper should be dismantled and thoroughly cleaned of dirt. After this, you need to make markings, having previously selected the location of the future fog lights. The best option is to install them directly under the headlights.

The holes for the PTF should be marked taking into account the size of the “glasses” - decorative plastic elements mounted around the headlights. They consist of two parts - outer and inner, fastened together and thus holding the headlights. The outer part has a special protrusion that fits inside the bumper. Its dimensions should exactly correspond to the dimensions of the installation window being cut out.

After the marking is completed, holes are drilled in the bumper for the saw to enter and both mounting sockets are cut out using a jigsaw. Their edges will need to be carefully processed with a file in order to remove all irregularities and burrs (after this treatment, the protrusion on the outer part of the “glasses” should fit into the socket without much effort, but with a certain interference).

After this, all that remains is to secure each of the headlights with a pair of bolts - and their installation will be completed.

Connecting fog lights

After the installation of fog lights on the VAZ 2114 is completed, you will need to connect them to the internal electrical network of the car in the following sequence:

  1. Mount the power button on the main panel. For this purpose, all trim levels of the 14th are equipped with a special boss, in the place of which it should be installed.
  2. Remove the speaker grille from the panel and find a pair of unoccupied connectors under it - a large one for connecting headlights, a small one for connecting the backlight of the button itself.
  1. Connect the button to the connectors, and then install the speaker grille in place.
  2. Open the hood and find the common fuse box.
  3. Unscrew the two mounting screws of the block and lift it up.
  4. Screw the PTF relay to a convenient place under the hood.

Which fog lights to choose

When choosing fog lights for your car, do not forget that their power, together with the power of other electrical equipment, should not exceed the capabilities of the generator. Otherwise, it is possible not only for the battery to discharge very quickly while driving, but also for problems, and possibly even failure of devices connected to the network.

The most popular and has earned numerous approvals from car enthusiasts is a set of fog lights produced by the Kirzhach company. It provides moderate energy consumption in combination with high-quality light and uniform illumination of the road.

Speaking about xenon PTFs (which, by the way, many drivers think about), it is worth noting that they consume much more energy, and therefore they are undesirable for the VAZ 2114 with its original generator.

In addition, xenon lamps have a different focusing principle from standard lamps, as a result of which, when they are installed on conventional headlights, the rays are incorrectly refracted, reflected from the road surface and, as a result, blinding drivers of oncoming vehicles.

If you really want, you can try to focus fog lights with xenon headlights (or use yellow headlights), but if this does not give results, then it is better to abandon their use in favor of conventional light bulbs.

New sample block

On the VAZ 2114 car, the manufacturer simultaneously installed two fuses designed to protect the fog lamp circuits. The PTF fuse on the VAZ 2114, which protects the left headlight, is designated F 8 and is located eighth from top to bottom in the left column of the mounting block. The electrical circuit for switching on the right fog lamp is protected by an element designated F 9 . It is installed 9th in the left column from top to bottom.

Both fuses are rated at 7.5 amps. In case of replacement, you should select a fuse for the fog lights of the VAZ 2114, designed specifically for this load. Exceeding this parameter may lead to a fire in the electrical wiring. Installing an element designed for a lower load will lead to its rapid burnout.

We install and connect fog lights on a VAZ-2114 with our own hands (video inside)

If on modern cars, even in the budget segment, fog lights are basic equipment, then for the VAZ-2114 they are an option. From the factory, fog lights are installed only on luxury equipment, and even then, not always. Installing foglights with your own hands will not cause any difficulties if you know some of the nuances and are able to distinguish wires by color. But first, let's select an installation kit.

Where is the PTF relay located?

On VAZ 2114 cars there are no front fog lights by default. Installation of PTF is an additional option. On older versions, the fog light relay is installed in the engine compartment. For easy access to it, it is necessary to remove the battery. On modern models, the fog light relay is installed in the passenger compartment. It is located on the driver's side under the steering column.

We assemble a kit for installing fog lights on a VAZ-2114

Installation of fog lights on a VAZ-2114

Regardless of how the fog lights are attached to the car bumper , to install them you must have a certain set of components, without which installation will be impossible.

The difficulty is that fog lights have quite noticeable power for electrical wiring, so installing a relay and a special button is mandatory.

Be sure to connect via a relay, otherwise you can get a short circuit (short circuit)

If you do not install a relay, but simply connect the headlights via a button, high current loads will occur on the ignition switch and on the terminals , which can lead to burnt contacts, overheating and damage to the insulation, and this is fraught with a short circuit with all the ensuing consequences.

Full set of components

To install a pair of fog lights on a VAZ-2114, you will need to find a certain set of components, or buy such a ready-made set. Its price is from 500 to 700 rubles, depending on the manufacturer (quality), and it includes the following:

    A set of wires with terminals and blocks specifically for the VAZ-2114. There should be three of them - a connecting wire between the headlights, a wire from the switch to the relay and from the relay to the fuse box.

Mounting kit for installing fog lights

Ties for fixing wires

And, of course, the fog lights themselves. You can choose them at your discretion, but it is better not to overdo it with power so as not to overload the generator. It has a power reserve, however, it is not designed for high loads, so it is better to abandon xenon light immediately.
