How to remove the fuel tank cap of a Hyundai Getz

The gas tank flap will not freeze: a simple and reliable method!

An icy hatch can provide a couple of “pleasant” minutes at a gas station. The problem is easier to solve if you know the right approach.

When inspecting places that may freeze in a car after a winter wash, drivers often pay attention to the doors, but forget about the gas tank flap.
You shouldn’t ignore it, because sooner or later the car will have to be refueled. The hatch flap faces the same problems, but their solution is somewhat different depending on the design of the particular machine. Owners of models with a non-locking hatch need not worry about anything. Unlike body doors, seals are not used here; the hatch flap simply rests on one or two small buffers, to which it is impossible to freeze.

The locking mechanism, which is unlocked by pressing the corner of the hatch, also usually does not cause any trouble. Even if the ice “grabs” it, it’s very weak: without any extra effort you can open the gas tank, just like in the summer. Although unpleasant precedents still occur, they are probably caused by a lack of lubrication in the mechanism itself, and not by a design predisposition to freezing. As a last resort, it is enough to lightly press the hatch from the outside so that the ice releases it.

What are the advantages of Easyfuel?

Like any innovation, Easyfuel has its advantages and disadvantages. Let's sort them out.

  1. It simplifies the process, as it takes into account the design features of any refueling gun.
  2. Don't get your hands dirty on a dirty gas tank cap.
  3. No need to freeze your hands in cold weather.
  4. If you use canisters, the kit includes a tube with which you can open the neck and insert a funnel.

A significantly more complex design leads, along with ease of operation, to a significantly higher cost of repairs. In addition, if the gun is not inserted deeply enough, the shut-off valve often trips. Problems can also arise if there is an old model pistol at the gas station, but this is no longer a design flaw in the car.

What if it didn't help?

And if it doesn’t help, then your car has a different design, which uses a pin that extends from the side and passes through the eye on the hatch. It is good if the mechanism is made of plastic. With this, most likely, there will be no problems. As a maximum, click the central lock several times, simultaneously pressing the gas tank flap, and the ice will give up.

But sometimes it is made entirely of metal. We swam - we know: it freezes quickly and tightly! “Humane” methods do not help; you have to fight it by carefully pouring warm water onto the hatch or spraying it with a defroster. Already knowing about the peculiarities of the car, it is better not to close the door after washing for the first 10–15 minutes of the trip.

Any remaining water will dry out or freeze.

It is worth paying more attention to those motorists on whose cars the traffic jam is additionally locked with a key. It happens (for example, on Peugeot 206 cars) that the lock cylinder is brought straight out. Filling it at the sink is as easy as shelling pears. In this case, do not forget to preventively treat the larva with special liquids.

If the hole for the key is located on a plug hidden by a hatch, the structure often provides a seal around it that cuts off water. When it is not there, also do not forget about lubricants and defrosters: in the absence of a seal around the perimeter of the hatch, nothing prevents water from getting inside.

How to protect the gas tank flap by installing an electric lock on a LADA

On LADA cars, the gas tank flap does not have a lock; anyone can open it. To protect the fuel tank from intruders, it is proposed to install an electromechanical lock. Let's figure out how much such a modification will cost, and also how difficult it is to protect the gas tank with your own hands.

Required:

  • electromechanical lock (for example, from Daewoo Nexia, article 96178614), price about 700 rubles;
  • fuel tank flap opening button (articles: 93555-4H010KD, 3B0959833A, 96175950, 935553D010 or 935553K000QS), price up to 550 rubles;
  • wires, price up to 150 rubles;
  • hairpin spring;
  • welding (depending on the car model).

This mechanism allows you to open the gas tank flap in two ways: press the button, pull the cable in the trunk.

To make a lockable gas tank flap you need:

1. We make three holes in the body near the neck of the fuel tank (two holes for attaching the electromechanical lock, one for the lock rod). On new LADA models, for example, on the Lada XRAY, it is very difficult to get to the neck from the inside; use a cardboard template and wire to push the actuator through.

2. To make the gas tank flap bounce when opened, install a spring from a woman’s hairpin. On Lada XRAY you can simply turn the spring over.

3. Make a hole in the gas tank flap for the lock latch. If this is not possible, we weld a U-shaped piece of the electrode.

4. Install the button in any convenient place in the cabin. We connect according to the diagram via a 4-pin relay.

5. If desired, remove the bulge on the hatch to open it with your finger (contact specialists at the service station).

Now the gas tank flap is locked with a lock and can only be opened from inside the car.

Electromechanical lock of the gas tank flap in action on a Lada Priora car:

Let us remind you that to further protect the fuel tank, you can install a lid with a lock. And for more convenient operation, make a mount under the gas tank cap.

It is worth noting

In cases where you only need to remove the Ford Focus 2 gas tank cap, for example, you are choosing the color of the car (for body repair), you can use only the last two points. Apply more force, as it is fixed with two holders. But if you try, the Ford Focus 2 gas tank cap can be easily removed without damaging the car in any way.

Assembly is carried out in the reverse order of dismantling. It takes a little patience and effort, and the Ford Focus 2 gas tank cap will be in place. The process itself does not require any special effort or large investments of time and money. Therefore, you should not contact expensive mechanics.

However, in cases where the skills are very weak, and the solution to the problem is critical, then it may be worth calling an experienced specialist. Clumsy hands can not only fail to solve a simple problem, but can also make things worse.

How to close the gas tank flap

A - lock button; A/1 - view of the legs of the window lifter button for the VAZ 2110; B - central locking; C - M10 brass bolt with through hole and nut; D — rod from the kit from the Central lock; E - aluminum corner; F — gas tank flap cover.

To control the lock, a single button is used to control the window lifter from the VAZ 2110. For it, you need to take the factory block and terminals. The green and blue wires can be connected to the central alarm wires from the alarm instead of the button.

The corner is screwed to the upper edge of the gas tank flap with M3 self-tapping screws. I tried to glue it with “cold welding” - it fell off after a month.

The lock itself is attached to the Niva body using plates from the Ts.Z set. and self-tapping screws.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: To reduce the cost of this design, the electric drive of the lock is connected directly to the control button. Therefore, it is NECESSARY to control the unlocking and locking of the lock only by short presses on the control button (it is not latching). The normal operating mode of the lock is an impulse with a duration of 0.7 seconds. If the pulse duration exceeds the specified time, this may lead to burnout of the drive. To avoid this, you can add a standard central control controller to the circuit. And then the circuit will look like this: the button controls the controller, and it controls the lock. You can also apply a minus to leg No. 5, and a plus to leg No. 4, which appears when the dimensions are turned on (the gray wire from the cigarette lighter or from the dimmer). And then, when you turn on the headlights, the button will be illuminated greenish (built-in LED) in the evening.

How to remove the fuel tank cap of a Hyundai Getz

You may need to remove the fuel tank either to replace it or to clean it.

In order to get to the fuel pump, you may decide that you need to remove the rear cushion. But in order to remove it, you will need to unscrew two more bolts. But in fact, it is not at all necessary to remove it - just lift it up.

The operation is carried out in the following sequence:

1) The lever, which is located at the edge of the pillow, must be pressed, making a pressing movement inwards. At the same time, we lift the rear cushion up. The same operation must be done with the second pillow.

2) The small hatch that we will find under these pillows is secured with sealant. Therefore, to remove the cover from it, you just need to pry it off with a screwdriver.

3) The two electrical connectors that we see there need to be disconnected.

4) Now you need to start the car and let it run for a few seconds until it stalls.

5) Now you need to detach the fuel hoses. To do this, you first need to press the two blue buttons that these hoses hold, and only then pull the hoses. You can disconnect all hoses.

6) in order to do everything else, you need to crawl under the car. The 2 nuts that secure the gas tank from the bottom need to be unscrewed. Before doing this, do not forget that the gas tank must be secured so that it does not fall and damage the fuel hoses.

7) Now you need to disconnect all the thin hoses. There are three in total. The third hose may not be visible from the outside. It is located to the left of the thick hose. We loosen the clamp on the thickest hose using a 10mm wrench, and loosen the clamps on all other hoses using pliers.

The gas tank flap on the car does not open: solutions

Many motorists are familiar with the situation when the fuel tank cap refuses to open. Such a small thing, which few car owners pay attention to, can cause serious inconvenience if it is impossible to open it, especially if this happened right at a gas station, while the car has an empty gas tank. At such moments, some motorists manage to achieve their goal in various ways, showing incredible ingenuity, while others, on the contrary, may panic, especially if the service is far away.

The gas tank flap often does not open in cold weather, but trouble also happens in warm weather. Despite all the working order of the mechanisms that drive the vehicle, the car will go nowhere until it is refueled, so if such a problem arises, you will have to take measures to eliminate it. Depending on the reason that provoked the situation, different ways to resolve the issue are used.

wrote on 07/19/2015 For each brand of car, the gas tank cap is removed differently. Let’s say that most Huyndai cars (for example, Accent, Solaris) can be removed in this way: tighten the two bolts at the base of the cover with a 10mm socket, disconnect the plastic cable from the gas tank flap, then remove the cover. On the old Volkswagen Passat, the cap pulls back and that’s it. But there are brands in which the cap is much more difficult to remove, for example, BMW or Volvo, and some new model cars do not have a gas cap at all. It is much easier to find a manual about your car; it should already be written there exactly what needs to be done and in what order. You can also call the service department for your car, they will be able to give you a complete and detailed description of how to remove the gas tank cap. Good luck!

How to open different lid models

Different models and brands of cars are equipped with different types of mechanisms; often their functions are not limited to locking the gas tank, but are also assigned the task of stabilizing the pressure in the tank, isolating the fuel from external influences, etc.

Covers have many variations, differing in the type of locking mechanism, type of protection and other indicators. Structurally, gas tank hatches differ depending on the shape of the tank neck, diameter, type of thread and other factors, and accordingly they can open in different ways:

  • by pressing a button from the interior;
  • control panel for central locking;
  • lever with a gas station icon;
  • by pressing the lid with slight force until it clicks and pulling it towards you.

Most common problems

Depending on the reason why the gas tank flap does not open, there are different methods to solve the problem. You can cope with the task on your own; no special skills are required for this, but it is important to know what caused the trouble in order to, based on this, determine what actions should be taken.

The hatch opening mechanism is frozen

In winter, at sub-zero temperatures, freezing of the gas tank cap, or rather the unlocking mechanism, is not uncommon. This is due to the fault of condensation formed due to the temperature difference in the cabin and outside, and subsequently freezing as the temperature drops.

Every motorist should know how to safely open the gas tank cap, since some barbaric methods can cause damage to the hatch hinges or bodywork. In this case, you cannot use force; local heating will help to defrost the hatch unlocking mechanism effectively and without unpleasant consequences. Taking the car to a warm garage or service station, which will solve the problem in a matter of minutes, is not always possible, so this method is not suitable for anyone. If you have a hair dryer and a power source at hand, you can use the device to warm up the hatch. You must act with caution, since the power of the hair dryer is quite high and there is a risk of damaging the paintwork. Another method involves using exhaust gases for good, which requires a hose that is directed from the pipe to the hatch. To defrost the mechanism under such conditions, up to five minutes is enough.

Elimination of consequences of emergency opening of the hatch

As a result of an unsuccessful attempt to emergencyly open the gas tank flap on a Volkswagen Polo, its locking mechanism may be damaged.

As a result, it begins to open spontaneously, and its closure becomes impossible. To resolve this problem, it is recommended to use the instructions below:

  • Open the trunk.
  • Remove the decorative fasteners from the top of the trunk trim and pull off the cover.
  • Disconnect the block, which is shown in the photo below.

Pull the wire to the lock from the connector, remove the plug from the trunk. A similar principle, besides the Polo sedan, is used in other Volkswagens - Passat and Golf. Even though they stuff them with various winter packages.

However, when the needle on the fuel gauge approaches the zero mark, all that remains is to open the lock using improvised means, which can result in damage to it.

How to open the hatch yourself? How to open the gas tank hatch on your own?

Before calling the official service center, asking how much it will cost to replace both the lock and the drive, you should study the instructions on how to open the gas tank hatch, which are given below.

The whole process will take no more than minutes, and the only tools you will need are a 6-point TORX.

Moreover, if the gas tank flap lock is not damaged in any way and you only need to open the gas tank flap and get rid of the central locking, you should immediately go to the fifth point. Remove the cap from the tank. I parked the car, clicked the button on the remote control, and the mechanism immediately worked.

Reasons for blocking the hatch The Volkswagen Polo sedan is equipped with a classic gas tank hatch, which works perfectly in tandem with the central locking system. Czech Skodas also have a similar operation scheme for the gas tank flap.

The culprit of all minor troubles is the notorious drive, which blocks the gas tank flap. It is enough to turn it off manually and the life of the sedan owner will become much easier.

However, the catch may lie elsewhere. Always extinguish cigarettes and other burning objects before refueling. Open the fuel tank cap by turning it counterclockwise.

What to do if the gas tank flap does not open

Close the fuel tank cap by turning it clockwise until it clicks. This means that the plug is securely closed. Warning A loose plug may cause the OBD-II malfunction indicator lamp 01 in the instrument cluster to light up.

If the doors are closed, then the hatch is closed. If you lock the doors with the button on the driver's door and then get out, the hatch remains closed just like the other doors. The gas tank cap is conveniently hung on the hatch when refueling due to special recesses.

In the neck of the gas tank on the left there is an air bleed button with which you can fill up to an additional 10 liters, which is important for long trips. There is no washer sensor and the very presence of washer fluid in the tank is difficult to see, because

If the lid does not close

There is also the opposite problem, when the gas tank flap does not close, dangles, or simply does not fit tightly. To find out the reason, you need to inspect the cover and its fastenings. The hatch is supported by guides that can bend or break, making it impossible to close the door. For repairs, you need to remove the cover, this must be done carefully so that the latch tabs come out of the seat. Depending on whether the fasteners are broken, the spring has flown out (lost or simply moved out of the correct position), the nut has become loose, etc., you need to take the necessary measures. It may be enough to simply position the hatch correctly after removal or tighten the nut, but it may also be necessary to replace the spring or drive cable. To do this, you will have to lift the trim in the cabin from the side of the tank to clarify the situation and, if necessary, replace the element.

Procedure for removing the fuel filler flap

Some owners of the Focus of the second version are faced with the need to dismantle the fuel tank if the capacity of the tank has decreased, remove the lid, or for other reasons. Removing the gas tank flap (a round filler cap painted in the color of the car) is quite easy - you just need to open it, squeeze out the fixing element with a screwdriver and pull the part towards you.

These actions may be required when choosing paint for local restoration work on the body or for replacing parts. If the gas tank does not close or the bracket that secures the cap is installed, work will be difficult.

This can be useful when selecting paint for local body repairs or replacement. With a bracket that fixes the cover it is more difficult. The part includes a housing, a hinged hinge and an electric lock. You can purchase a new element or find a mount at disassembly. The unique part code is 8M51A405A02AA or Y1428 D01, if purchased together with the neck.

To remove the gas tank flap from a Ford Focus II, you need a flat-head screwdriver and a TORX20 socket. The procedure does not require much time, so you can do it yourself. The sequence of actions for the container with the bracket will be as follows - remove the rear fender liner located near the fuel tank, after which you need to release the hatch latches. After this, the cover will be accessible and can be easily removed.

Useful tips

Anticipating cold weather, it is better to take care in advance to prevent the problem of freezing of elements, leading to the impossibility of opening the hatch. Treating the hinges and locking mechanism with silicone grease will help prevent condensation from affecting the parts. It is better to treat rubber seals after each car wash; seasonality does not matter. In emergency cases, silicone grease will be replaced by a few drops of motor oil, which forms a protective film on the surfaces.

What should not be done when the hatch does not give in is to use brute force on the fragile structure, since this can quickly increase the scale of the disaster.

There are car models in which the gas tank flap does not open when the engine is started and the key is in the ignition. Under such circumstances, you need to turn off the engine and remove the key to open the lid.

In any case, it is initially necessary to figure out what exactly is the matter, what elements interfere with the correct operation of the mechanism and, already knowing the culprit in person, take appropriate measures to eliminate the problem of opening the hatch.

Reasons why the hatch does not open

If the gas tank hatch on a Volkswagen Polo does not open, this can happen for a number of reasons, which are listed in the table below.
