Magnetic activator - saving money or throwing money away?

Date of publication: November 09, 2020. Category: Automotive equipment.

What you don’t see on the market today. Consumers, in a thirst for savings, literally force sellers to offer them completely useless products that will only bring mental peace. So it is with the new device, which has been actively discussed on the Internet for several years.

Economizer, magnetic fuel activator, electromagnetic activator, etc. As soon as manufacturers do not name an ordinary magnet, which, according to their theory, can reduce fuel consumption by 25%, make the engine more durable and powerful (by no less than 20%), and also reduce the amount of waste. If after these words a smile does not appear on your face, then you urgently need to read the information below.

Fuel saving magnets: what are they?

The activator as a whole is a neodymium magnet enclosed in a plastic case. The latter, in turn, is made of an alloy of neodymium, boron and iron. It is distinguished by high levels of magnetic induction strength, which it can maintain for a long time. To protect against corrosion, the magnet is coated with nickel. The plastic shell protects against mechanical damage that can negatively affect the magnetic properties.

The design of the savers is very simple

Plastic clamps are usually used to secure the activator. There are also options for products with wing nuts.

Blind drivers and the opinion of gurus

There are car owners who believe in the miraculous effects of this device. Please note that before installing the magnetic activator in the cabin above the car, work was carried out on the carburetor bulkhead, ignition regulation, actions to remove gaps in the valves, and changing the oil and spark plugs. Do you at least understand the slightest bit about your iron horse? If so, then it will become clear to you that, most likely, all these operations led to an increase in the efficiency of the vehicle, and not the installation of some kind of magnet at the end of all the work.

In reality, such devices do not justify themselves

“Why are you so skeptical and distrustful?” - you ask. This is because we are used to relying on facts. What are our facts?

While the news about the magnet reached our market, German specialists had already conducted a number of studies on the effectiveness of this device. Verdict: no changes. Changing the order and structuring of moving molecules will not in any way affect the composition of the combustible substance, which, among other things, does not burn on its own. Without an oxygen oxidizer, combustion cannot be achieved, and fuel economy can only be felt by increasing the amount of air in the overall mixture for the combustion chamber. And more air means less power, so here, too, “beauty requires sacrifice.”

After evaluating all the opinions and facts, we came to the conclusion that the magnetic activator is just a pill of hope, a kind of placebo for those who want to reduce engine consumption. Monitor your car regularly, remember that frequent oil changes never harmed anyone, and then the efficiency of your engine will be at its best! And everything else is just a publicity stunt, a desire to make money.

How magnets work

According to the manufacturers, the device ensures the ordering of hydrocarbon molecules in the fuel mixture by exposing them to a magnetic field with an induction of up to 1200 Gauss. It is indicated that under the influence of external factors - changes in temperature and humidity - mutual attraction of hydrocarbon molecules occurs, as a result of which they form clumps and do not burn completely, since part of the molecules located in the middle does not interact with oxygen.

The declared operating principle of the economizer is breaking up clusters and ordering the movement of molecules

In turn, the passage of fuel through the magnetic field created by the activator leads to the separation of clumps into small particles, as well as the acquisition of a positive charge by the latter (which ensures better interaction with oxygen). As a result, the fuel mixture burns completely.

Do magnetic fuel activators work?

According to the sellers, the device has a magnetic field that can cause resonance in the hydrocarbon chain of gasoline. That is, the fuel mixture is able to respond to such influence. Sellers also claim that liquid molecules are in a chaotic state, but under the influence of a magnet they turn into an orderly row of cathodes that interact better with air.

How liquid fuel, whose molecules have their own charge and magnetic moment, can change its structure is not clear. This is only possible if the ions are completely destroyed. Yes, theoretically, magnetic fields can even move large objects of organic origin. But for this you will need a generator no smaller than a trailer, and not two miniature magnets, with the help of which you won’t even find a paper clip on the carpet.

But let’s assume that the theory is correct and let’s try to get acquainted with the variety of devices and test them. To do this, fill a full tank of gasoline and install the car on a dyno, armed with a car scanner.

Let's take the first device - a Chinese economizer, which is inserted into the cigarette lighter. Will the fuel mixture really be split from some kind of “flash drive” installed in the car? Of course no. Although the manufacturers of this device do not say that it will change the properties of gasoline. They claim that the product affects the generator. They say this small battery helps him by transmitting a charge of electricity. But, alas, even such an official theory does not reveal the miraculous properties of the “flash drive”.

If you ask any expert or person who has at least a superficial understanding of this issue, he will say that even theoretically, the impact on the electrical grid cannot in any way and under any circumstances affect not only gasoline consumption, but also any other parameter. The funny thing is that this device can also damage the car. But fuel consumption will still remain the same. According to testing without the device, 5.99 liters of gasoline were consumed per 100 km; with the magnet, the parameter did not change by a single hundredth.

Ok, everything is clear with strange “flash drive-like” devices. But what about real powerful magnets that are attached to both sides of the gas line. Alas, they are not capable of performing miracles. The consumption will not change. There remains hope for the most expensive device. This is not just some kind of magnet, but a whole electromagnetic activator. Could it help save millions on fuel? It crashes into the fuel system and connects to a 12-volt power source, after which nothing changes at all in fuel consumption. But the car owner’s wallet will be empty by at least 5,000 rubles.

After checking at the service center, you can be sure that the difference between driving without the device and with it will be exactly 0%. You won't be able to save even a drop of gasoline.

By the way, the very description of the economizer action is painfully reminiscent of Mazda’s latest development called SkyActiv. Only the Japanese, unlike domestic manufacturers, are more modest and claim that their new product can save up to 15% of fuel consumption. But in their case we are talking about a completely new type of gasoline engine that meets EURO-6 requirements and at the same time is capable of improving the performance characteristics of the car. That is, the company's engineers rethought the principle of thermodynamics and developed a motor whose compression ratio is 14:01. Even supercars and racing cars cannot boast of such indicators. At the same time, significantly less gasoline is actually spent.

What is all this for? Besides, if it were possible to save up to 25% of the fuel mixture, didn’t dozens of brainy Japanese engineers think of putting a magnet on the gas tank hose? The conclusion suggests itself.

Magnet efficiency: how much you can save

According to manufacturers and sellers, the use of an activator can reduce fuel consumption by 10-40%. Additional benefits that buyers of such devices are promised:

  • increase in engine power;
  • significant reduction in carbon content in exhaust gases;
  • reduction in engine oil consumption;
  • increasing the service life of spark plugs and exhaust system catalytic converter;
  • reducing the amount of carbon deposits in engine cylinders.

In addition, stable operation of the battery is indicated as an advantage of installing a magnet.

What does the ignition amplifier do?

Ignition amplifiers also continue to remain afloat . True, their usefulness raises huge doubts due to the frankly dilapidated scientific background. Yes, during the inception of the internal combustion engine, this system, quite possibly, could have been called a more or less effective device for saving fuel, but in the conditions of far-reaching technological progress in engine building, the use of ignition amplifiers has lost all relevance.

Where can I buy the device

There should be no problems purchasing a magnetic activator. It is presented on many platforms.

Advertisements for the sale of savers can be found on the marketplace

There are also sites online that offer savings exclusively. They usually contain positive feedback about the use of the device.

Saving gasoline driving style

In any driving tutorial you will find the most reliable information on techniques for reducing car fuel consumption. And they all boil down to one recommendation - improve your driving skills. How exactly should you drive to reduce fuel consumption?

  • Firstly, every experienced driver knows that you should not press the brake pedal thoughtlessly. This does not mean at all that you need to ram other road users - you just need to choose the distance wisely so as not to push the brake pedal to the floor later
  • Secondly, you should avoid sudden acceleration when starting from a traffic light. Those who like to “shoot” when the signal turns green will have to be prepared for the fact that their excessive ardor will be punished with a ruble during the next refueling

How to install a magnet in a car

The entire process of installing a magnet to save fuel consists of 2 steps:

  1. Place the activator halves on both sides of the fuel hose so that they are as close to the engine as possible.
  2. Secure them.

Anyone can cope with this task; no help is required.

Since, in accordance with the manufacturers' instructions, the proportion of fuel in the fuel-air mixture entering the cylinders after installing the magnet must be reduced, it is necessary to adjust the operation of the fuel system. This procedure has its own characteristics depending on the type of engine installed on the vehicle.

On a carburetor engine

Adjustment of the quality of the fuel-air mixture (proportion of fuel and air) is carried out manually. Setting up the carburetor is carried out in several stages:

  1. With the throttle open, the engine is started and warmed up to 80 °C.
  2. The mixture quality screw is tightened all the way, then turned back 2-2.5 turns.
  3. The idle screw is tightened 1.5-2 turns from the point where it begins to turn the throttle lever.
  4. By rotating the quality screw to one side or the other of the mixture, you need to achieve a maximum increase in the engine crankshaft speed.
  5. By rotating the idle speed screw, the minimum stable speed is set.
  6. The procedure is repeated several times to obtain stable crankshaft rotation parameters.

Adjusting the carburetor power unit of the vehicle

To check the operation of the engine, you need to sharply press and release the gas pedal several times - the absence of interruptions will indicate that the setting was performed correctly.

On an injection engine

The sequence of actions is as follows:

  1. 10 minutes before installing the magnet, the electronic injection system is de-energized - you need to remove the “–” terminal from the battery.
  2. After installing the magnet, the battery wire is connected.
  3. The engine is started.
  4. To increase the load on the car's electrical system, electrical equipment is turned on - lighting devices, climate control system, windshield wipers, etc.
  5. The crankshaft rotation parameter is set at 2500 rpm.

At the set crankshaft speed you need to drive approximately 2 km.

Diesel engine

The principle of regulating the fuel supply to diesel engines equipped with an injection pump with an electronic control unit is the same as for injection internal combustion engines. Before starting work, you need to turn off the power to the machine.

By car with gas equipment

Magnetic analyzers are installed on the fuel line between the engine and the gas reducer. The adjustment is carried out in the same way as for a carburetor (if there is no electronic fuel quality control system) or injection (if available) engine.

Installing the activator

It is better to choose a ferrite magnetic activator if you have already decided to install this equipment. Ferrite is cheaper. It is better to install at a distance between the fuel injector and the pump. Injector, carburetor or burner - we understand that all cars are different, right?

The main installation requirements are:

  • Installing the southern policy so that it is in contact with the wire line, and the northern one is located further from the main line.
  • The magnet tension for proper operation should be 1300–1800 Gauss. This is the only way to overcome demagnetization.

Advice: to reduce magnetism when supplying fuel, make the part of the fuel system located below the flow of the magnetic activators from a non-magnetic material. Otherwise, there can be no talk of saving. You can easily install a magnet near the carburetor with your own hands.

How to test it in action

Manufacturers and sellers of fuel-saving magnets recommend assessing their effectiveness by comparing fuel consumption before installing activators and 1,500 km after their installation (to eliminate the impact of carbon deposits in the cylinders). To do this you need:

  • measure the consumption for 300-500 km;
  • compare the readings before and after installing the magnets.

In this case, the driving style and mode, as well as conditions such as weather, road surface conditions, road surface characteristics, etc., must match, which is quite difficult to achieve in practice.

Engine ionizer

Another know-how, which upon closer examination appears to be just unnecessary tinsel, is an engine ionizer. Installing it will definitely not help you reduce fuel consumption. Moreover, the use of this design can be fraught with very negative consequences: for example, its improper installation can cause a short circuit, and hence a fire.

Certificate of conformity: yes or no

As proof of the effectiveness of the magnetic activator, sellers post on their websites a certificate of conformity issued by the NPO Central Research Institute for Denaturation Problems from Krasnoarmeysk near Moscow. This document states that the device complies with GOST R 51634-2000 “Engine equipment. Magnetic resonance, general and technical requirements.”

Sellers of fuel saving magnets post this certificate on their websites.

The mentioned GOST R 51634-2000 really exists. However, it is called “Automotive and tractor motor oils. General technical requirements".

GOST R 51634-2000 has nothing to do with magnets

Also, the certificate placed by sellers indicates the product code according to the Russian HS Classifier – 3403199100. This code actually corresponds to the product category “other lubricants”. Neodymium magnets comply with the RF HS code 8505199000.

Practice confirms the truth

Our car enthusiasts have not taken anything for granted for a long time. They make similar magnetrons with their own hands, install them in their cars and make sure that there is no effect on fuel economy and all other indicators.

Scientific theory and practice tries not to discard ideas without careful testing. It is known that for the effective influence of a magnetic field on a fluid flow, two important parameters must be observed:

  • high speed
  • the duration of the flow and the strict size of the gap between the magnets

The magnetic properties of the material are also more important. But none of the experiments with magnetrons yielded results.

It is surprising that a magnetic economizer can be installed on a fuel line where the outer diameter, wall thickness and inner diameter are unknown. With such a set of unknowns, it is simply impossible to create a magnetic gap by simply fixing the device on the first hose that comes along.

Fuel consumption in a car does not have a flow rate that could qualify as sufficient to carry out magnetization. Even in internal combustion engine cooling systems it is difficult to create this condition.

Excess car weight

Many people carry a bunch of different stuff in the trunk, which again forces the car to constantly carry extra weight with it. I personally know people who carry around an extra 50, 70 and even a hundred kilograms. Therefore, make the car as light as possible, carry a gearbox instead of a pump, and a tool for quick tire repair instead of a spare tire.

Some cars have a very large gas tank. Sometimes there are tanks of 80, 100 liters. I do not recommend filling the entire gas tank into such tanks, since the car also has to carry this volume with it. It turns out that you have to carry one more person with you. so make your car as light as possible.

Consumers, in a thirst for savings, literally force sellers to offer them completely useless products that will only bring mental peace. So it is with the new device, which has been actively discussed on the Internet for several years. Economizer, magnetic fuel activator, electromagnetic activator, etc. If after these words a smile does not appear on your face, then you urgently need to read the information below. This device was created and patented by the scientist academician V. Dudyshev.

What do you need to take note to effectively save fuel?

So, the simplest ways to save on servicing your car:

Don't forget about speed!

Fuel consumption is highly dependent on driving speed. Regardless of engine size, fuel type - gasoline or diesel, gearbox type - automatic or manual, any car picks up speed by opening the throttle when pressing the gas pedal. And the harder the pressure, the lower the fuel economy. Car enthusiasts can be advised not to press the accelerator pedal to the floor unnecessarily, but to accelerate smoothly.

What about your driving style?

With aggressive driving, sudden acceleration and braking, especially with an automatic transmission, fuel economy sharply approaches zero. After all, after each sharp braking, the driver begins to accelerate again, and then brakes again. All this leads to loss of control over gasoline consumption. To save money in this case, you need to follow simple tips - if the car is driving down a hill or along a straight section of a relatively unloaded road, it is better to use engine braking, and before climbing it is better to smoothly accelerate the car to top gears.

Do you use your car's electrical appliances rationally?

Such newfangled inventions for the car as climate control, a stove, additional light turn signal repeaters, fog lights, duplicate brake lights on the rear window or spoiler, heated windows for all windows, TV and DVD system, built-in navigator, Handsfree system for the convenience of using a mobile phone Using a phone does not allow you to fundamentally save on gasoline. To reduce consumption, it is necessary to use the mentioned energy systems more rationally - in cool weather you can turn off the air conditioning, it is better to drive on a well-known road without a navigator, and watching a DVD for the driver while driving simply poses a greater danger, etc.

What about engine speed?

It is known that when the engine speed is too low, as well as when the engine speed is too high, fuel consumption increases, which makes it unprofitable to sit in a traffic jam with the engine running or drive at a speed of 180 km/h on the expressway. Of course, the gearbox is important, since the gas mileage of a car with an automatic transmission is slightly lower than with a manual transmission. In this case, to reduce fuel consumption, it is better to turn off the ignition when the car is completely stopped, and on country roads to adhere to the speed limit in the range of 90-130 km/h. This measure will also increase the engine life.

Do you open windows when driving fast?

Physics shows that the more streamlined the shape of a fast-moving object, the less air resistance. The same thing happens with a car - if you open a window at high speed, the oxygen rushing into the cabin creates turbulence, which greatly complicates the movement of the car.
