Recommendations for laying and connecting wires

When connecting the Starline anti-theft installation, the wiring must be laid away from sources of electrical noise. We are talking about high-voltage wires, the ignition coil and other components. Please note that the wiring should not come into contact with moving parts of the vehicle, namely steering rods, pedals, etc. Installation of wiring connections according to the connection card must be carried out with the battery disconnected (video author - Auto Electrician Sergey Zaitsev).

If the vehicle is equipped with an air cushion or an encoded receiver, when turning off the power, you must follow the service manual for the car. Installation of all permanent connections without exception must be done using soldering - all connections after connection must be insulated as much as possible.

As for the Starline central alarm unit, here you also need to take into account a few tips. Installation of the unit with other elements should be carried out with the main wiring only after the cable laying has been completed. Each individual Starline alarm model is connected in accordance with the map and service manual. Before installation, please read the instructions carefully!

Setting up a new Starline A93 alarm key fob

When purchasing a device, you will need to link it to the car. You need to know where the Valet service button is located. After that:

  • turn off the ignition, disarm the car, and then press the Valet key seven times;
  • turn on the ignition, the car will give seven light and sound signals, confirming entry into the binding mode;
  • press buttons 1 and 2 on the key fob;
  • the Starline machine and remote control will emit a signal;
  • When the ignition is turned off, the car will blink its headlights three times, confirming successful binding.

Starline A6 alarm connection diagram

Above is a diagram of the connection of the anti-theft installation. The wiring diagram itself may vary depending on the vehicle model. If you cannot distinguish one circuit element from another, contact an auto electrician for help.

Sorry, there are no surveys available at this time.

Using the Starline A93 model as an example, you can familiarize yourself with the nuances and subtleties of installing the system (the author of the video is Yuri Kadyrov).

It is impossible to describe detailed instructions for installing a Starline alarm system, since it cannot be universal: the cars are different, and the alarm models are different.

Over the past 10 years, Starline has produced so many different alarm systems that only a professional auto electrician can count their exact number.

The article provides superficial information on the main details that an ordinary car enthusiast will encounter if he decides to independently install an alarm system of this brand on his car. You should not despair and start planning the costs of visiting a service station, because it is quite possible to install an alarm yourself, you just need to have minimal tools and documentation.

No matter what model you purchased, installing a Starline alarm system is impossible without the main document - a pinout diagram for all wires; for example, the picture below shows the StarLine A91 diagram.

Programming table

The Starline A93 alarm system has a huge range of functions that are available for configuration. The car owner can set the auto start time, turbo timer parameters, starter operating time and many other options.

Tools and additional materials you will need

You should immediately purchase all the necessary tools so that the Starline installation takes place in one go. It is worth warning that the standard set of wires will most likely not be enough, so buy additional ones in advance.

  • Multimeter – preferably electronic, as it is more convenient to use;
  • Additional wires;
  • Foam rubber for packaging the central unit, as well as tape;
  • Good electrical tape and high-quality double-sided tape;
  • A set of keys and screwdrivers for dismantling panels and doors;
  • A normal knife for stripping wire contacts;
  • Soldering iron, solder, rosin - it is better to solder the contacts of the wires.

How to connect components?

Signal wires from sensors, switches and other control devices are laid in such a way that they are laid away from all possible sources of interference. The laid wire harnesses must not have contact with moving parts of the motor. Connectors with wires are connected to the blocks as indicated on the circuit diagram only after they have been installed and secured to the body.

For the transceiver module and its antenna, there is a connector that has five contacts; the wires for it come in the package. The performance indicator, as well as the service button, are connected with a two-pin plug. The four-wire harness included in the package is designed to connect the main unit with an additional sensor, as well as a shock sensor.

The central unit has a connector with 18 pins, two wires come from it, orange and black. They should be carefully pulled into the engine compartment and connected by color to the temperature sensor. A push-button switch installed in the engine compartment cannot be connected to the engine compartment illumination lamp, otherwise there will be errors in determining the temperature of the power unit.

Installation of the central unit

Installation of the Starline alarm system begins with the installation of the central unit; it is best to place it under the dashboard - this will save on the length of the connecting wires. It is necessary to choose the driest place so that drops of water do not flow onto it. At the same time, the central unit should not be located next to a heat source - a stove or air conditioner. Below is a list of recommendations for choosing a location for installation:

  • It is unacceptable to install the unit near a source of radio wave radiation: radio station, telephone, antenna cables.
  • The unit must be in a securely hidden place so that intruders cannot in any way get to it, at least without the need to hack the dashboard.
  • There is no need to stop the central unit close to moving parts: cables, rods, and so on.

The block must be secured securely using self-tapping screws, but in extreme cases, high-quality double-sided or regular tape will do.

It is very important that the vibration is minimal, so most car owners first wrap the central unit with foam rubber, then wrap it with tape, and then attach it under the dashboard, often using homemade fasteners - this method is the most reliable.

Starline reviews

  1. Arthur, 29 years old. I recently became the proud owner of a brand new Land Rover. When choosing a security system, I chose starline with a tracking system. In order not to mess up the interior myself, I took the car to a service center, where they installed the alarm for me within a few hours. Very convenient and easy to use. I immediately went to the manufacturer's website and checked the tracking function. Everything works great.
  2. Alexey, 32 years old. I installed a starline alarm system. I took a budget option from the E model range. Very economical, I want to say. It fits onto my domestic car like it’s a native one. Just a little bit - he immediately starts screaming. So now I’m not afraid of any hijackers.

We recommend:

Rear view camera: selection and installation rules

Installation of the transceiver with antenna

Mounts on the windshield or under the dashboard, but you need to follow strict rules.

  • Do not install the transceiver in such a way that the antenna is no closer than 5 cm to metal parts of the car body. Otherwise, the range of the key fob will not be as large as possible due to the interference created.
  • The transceiver must be placed at a great distance from the heat source, because it has a built-in sensor for measuring the interior temperature. It is also not recommended to install it in a place exposed to direct sunlight.

The picture is an example of a transceiver installed on the windshield near the center mirror.

Automatic alarm trigger

The automatic start installed on many anti-theft car systems does not always support the function of warming up the engine to the required temperature, as provided in the Starline A94 system. Starting based on engine temperature is carried out by pressing a certain combination of keys on the key fob, which sends an impulse to the starter that starts the engine. The engine and interior are completely warmed up in a few minutes, after which you can start driving the car.

In fact, automatic starting, or intelligent engine warm-up, is significantly different from what drivers are used to imagining. It implies a certain algorithm of actions embedded in the system. Thanks to the presence of a similar function in the anti-theft system, the car engine warms up based on three main indicators:

  • Time.
  • Time interval with a preset frequency.
  • Temperatures.

Siren and shock sensor

The siren should be placed under the hood away from a source of heat and moisture. The siren horn must be pointed downward, otherwise water may accumulate in it. You also need to make sure that there is no access to the siren from under the car, so that intruders will definitely not get to it.

The sensor must be securely mounted in the vehicle, it is better to rely on the mounting card to be sure that the most suitable place for its installation is used.

Laying wires and connecting all components

Wires must be laid away from the ignition coil, high-voltage wires and other sources of electrical noise. Installation is carried out with the battery disconnected. All wire contacts must be soldered, then wrapped with electrical tape.

In general, that’s all, if you try to describe in more detail the nuances of laying the wires, you will only confuse the car enthusiast, so here we can only give the only correct advice: when installing the wiring, keep the installation card and the wire pinout diagram nearby, otherwise the installation of the car alarm will take a long time and is not a fact. that everything will end successfully.

The photo below is an example of the correct routing of wires inside a car.

This may seem obvious, but it would not hurt to say that when installing the wiring, nothing should stick out anywhere; each wire should be neatly laid under the interior trim.

It takes an average of 8-10 hours to lay wires and connect all components. The specialists at the service center will do this work faster, but will they do it efficiently? To install an alarm system in your car yourself, you will have to work hard, and any car owner who has once gone through this stage will tell you this. In addition to installing the alarm, you will also have to spend time and effort programming it if the factory settings do not work correctly or you do not like. For example, you have a Starline model with auto start, but it doesn’t work as well as you would like.

Programming the StarLine A8 key fob: how to register the key fob and install autostart

The security alarm key fob is a radio transmitting device that provides control of the vehicle's anti-theft system. Using a special remote control, the car owner can remotely close and open doors, activate and deactivate the alarm, and also start the car engine from a distance. In addition, with the help of the key fob, other functions provided in modern security systems are controlled.

After pressing the remote control button, the signal is transmitted to the alarm unit, after which the information is recognized and processed. Next, the central authority gives a command to the elements of the security system to perform a certain action. At the same time, the correct operation of the alarm depends on the correct programming of the key fob.

How does the StarLine A8 security system recognize the control panel?

Each key fob that comes with the anti-theft system has an individual code. It is he who is registered inside the device, during the programming process of Starline A8. As a result, out of many remote controls, the central unit recognizes only “its” key fob, which contains the appropriate code.

In the StarLine A8 alarm system, programming of several key fobs is allowed - from two to four. But keep in mind that during the process of flashing one remote control, the code changes, so you will have to program other modules as well. Otherwise, they won't work.

For many security systems, programming a key fob is a simple procedure that any car owner can handle. But there are also models where it is impossible to do without the use of additional devices.

Buyers have at their disposal many types of Starline alarms - A91, A8, A9 and others. To register a key fob in each of them, it is important to understand the peculiarities of the process, because it is individual. Detailed information on programming StarLine A8 and other models is provided in the operating manual.

How to program Starline A8 alarm key fobs?

The first stage is installing the security system in service mode. You must turn off the alarm in emergency mode in order to register the key fob and give it a new code specific to a specific alarm.

Each anti-theft system has individual combinations that allow the car owner to switch to service mode. As a rule, to program the key fob, several presses are made on the Valet button, which is located in a secret place.

As a rule, the service mode switch is located in the steering wheel area, under the instrument panel. To increase efficiency, almost all security systems are equipped with additional protection to prevent unauthorized persons from entering this mode.

If an individual code is registered in the StarLine A8 alarm system, then without entering it, it will not be possible to start the service mode. Therefore, it will also not be possible to register the alarm key fob. If the encoding has not been changed before, you should look at the instructions and find the standard code. If this is not available, you should contact a service center for help.

General provisions regarding programming

Starline A8 is configured strictly according to the instructions that come with the alarm. The key fob is programmed in a certain sequence, violation of which is not permissible. There is an opinion that setting up an anti-theft system control panel is a difficult task. But that's not true. If you comply with the manufacturer's requirements and follow the instructions, registering the key fob will not be difficult.

Purpose of the first button

The function of the first button of the StarLine A8 alarm can be changed an unlimited number of times, and various options can be assigned to it. For ease of operation, it is recommended to “attach” to it the function of arming and disarming the car.

Programming the key fob, in this case, has the following algorithm:

  1. Press the third button on the remote control several times. Continue until you see a cursor on the LCD screen.
  2. Move the cursor to the desired position - for example, to the arm/disarm mode. To do this, use the third button.
  3. Now hold down this button for a few seconds and wait for first a double and then a triple beep.
  4. Press the first button on the key fob to activate the selected function.

If all manipulations are done correctly, then when you press the first StarLine A8 button, the programmed command is given. In addition, the icon corresponding to the installed function should light up.

To re-register the key fob, follow all the above procedures again. Subsequent recommendations regarding the programming of other buttons of the security system are carried out taking into account the fact that the first button is assigned to turn on/off the alarm.

Purpose of the second button

The purpose of the 2nd button on the remote control of the Starline A8 car security system is determined by the position of the cursor on the LCD screen. To program the key fob and give this button a new option, follow these steps:

  1. Press the 3rd button the required number of times. This is necessary in order to ensure that the cursor moves.
  2. With each subsequent press, watch the cursor move over the icons on the alarm panel screen. Here you need to move the cursor until it is on the option of interest.
  3. After completing the manipulations, press the second button to finally register the key fob and assign the new function to the second button.

How to set the clock

The remote control of the StarLine A8 security system has a built-in clock. To adjust their readings, use the third button. Press it and hold it in this position until the key fob emits two short beeps and the clock indicator starts flashing. To change the parameter upward, use the first button, and to decrease it, use the second. To speed up the process, press the corresponding button and hold it until the required number is set.

To set the minutes, briefly press the third button, and after completing programming the key fob, press it again until a sound signal appears. You can go another way. After setting the time, do nothing and wait until the setting mode automatically exits.

How to set an alarm

The Starline A8 alarm system has an alarm function. To register the key fob and set the necessary parameters, take the following steps:

  • Press and hold the third button until two beeps appear.
  • Press the same button until the alarm icon appears on the display.
  • Perform all the manipulations to set the required time, as in the case of a clock (the algorithm is discussed above).
  • After setting the desired time, press the first button to activate the alarm or the second to turn off the function.

How to install autorun

The video below shows how to arm your car with auto start using the Starline A91 alarm system. Enabling autostart, warming up the engine, disabling autostart.

How to choose an alert option

When programming the security system key fob, the car owner can set one of two alert options - using sound or vibration. To set the appropriate method, press two buttons simultaneously - the first and third. If everything is done correctly, you will hear a melody.

How to extend battery life

The StarLine A8 alarm is powered by a battery, which has a limited service life. To increase its service life, the security system developers have provided a special energy saving mode. If it is turned on, then after the alarm is activated, energy consumption is reduced to a minimum.

To activate this mode, do the following:

  1. Press the third button. Lock it in this position until you hear two beeps.
  2. Press the same button again and wait until the energy saving system icon appears on the display.
  3. Press the first button to start the desired mode, or the second button to disable it.
  4. To exit the key fob programming process, press the third button until a signal appears, or wait a while until the remote control exits the setup mode on its own.

How to set the car alarm in an emergency without a key fob

There are situations when the Starline A8 alarm remote control refuses to work due to low batteries, or the owner of the car has lost it. In this case, you can activate the security mode from inside the car. To do this, follow these simple steps:

  • Turn on the ignition without starting the engine.
  • Press the service switch eight times.
  • Turn off the ignition. You should hear the sound of a siren. In addition, the dimensions should blink.
  • Leave the car and close the doors with the key.

The security system will start working in exactly 20 minutes, regardless of the position of the doors.

How to urgently disable the anti-theft system without a key fob

To deactivate the alarm in an emergency, proceed as follows:

  • Open the car doors. An alarm should sound.
  • Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
  • Over the next 20 seconds, press the Valet switch eight times.
  • Turn off the ignition.

After this, StarLine A8 turns off, which the system reports with two sound signals and the same number of light signals. Now we can assume that the alarm is deactivated. If the anti-theft system was activated when the car owner was not around, then after it is turned off, it is necessary to conduct an internal check to determine whether it was activated.

For StarLine A8 and A9 you need to do everything according to the video, with the only difference: press the Valet button 8 times instead of 3 times .

What to do if the alarm goes off

  • The first thing that comes to mind is to turn off the alarm by pressing the corresponding button on the key fob.
  • The second option is to use the Valet button for 20 seconds after the signal is triggered.

To avoid recurrence of this situation, it is best to show the car to professionals. This may be due to a malfunction in the main device or its incorrect installation.

One way or another, it is better to find out the cause of the malfunction from a specialist. Of course, if you have a lot of experience and there are no doubts about its cause, you can correct the situation yourself. But it’s better not to overpay for the fact that you may have to redo everything.
