But sometimes the system can produce various errors: the engine does not start or starts, and after a few seconds it stalls. In such cases, the letters SP or ST are written on the key fob. The main reasons why the alarm system fails are listed below.
The engine starts and then turns off
First of all, you need to figure out whether the car has an immobilizer. The fact is that this security system does not allow automatic start-up. Therefore, during installation it is important to use the standard blocker bypass module.
The processor simply cannot read the command from the key fob. There may be several reasons for this: from a dead battery in the remote control to a short circuit or software malfunction.
There is no alarm connection to the starter and engine control parts. It turns out that the system simply does not have the physical ability to start the engine. It is necessary to install the missing elements.
Incorrect setting of operating modes
If the car is equipped with a manual transmission, there is a possibility that the neutral mode has not been programmed. This aspect needs to be corrected.
Physical damage to the remote control
Errors when installing the alarm or during its operation
System installers may incorrectly connect the motor control circuit or connect not all wires. Also, the transponder in the module may simply not recognize the signal. Or there may be a break in the circuits. In this case, it is necessary to carry out a comprehensive diagnosis.
Connecting an external power supply
If the car has a dead battery, then no voltage is supplied to the alarm, which means it will not be possible to open it using the key fob. Naturally, the first thing that comes to the mind of any car enthusiast is to open the lock with a key. And here a big pitfall may appear.
When the car has an alarm, the door is rarely opened with the key. Or it doesn't open at all. And this leads to the fact that the locking mechanism simply fails and the key does not turn. Therefore, we have to look for other methods.
One of the opening options is to get to the battery and apply voltage to it. Let's figure out how this can be done.
By the way, in order to prevent such situations, you need to monitor the state of charge. If you see that the battery charging light is on, this is a sure signal that there is no voltage going to it. The reasons can be very different, but in order not to plant it completely, you need to immediately find and eliminate them.
To connect another battery to a dead battery, you need to gain access to it. And to do this, you need to decide how to open the hood. Of course, you can use any suitable lever and simply squeeze it out. But such a barbaric method will not be without consequences. Therefore, it is better to discard it immediately.
To do this, you will need:
- charged battery;
- lighting kit - wires with crocodiles;
- special hydraulic cushion.
Everyone knows what a battery and crocodiles are, but many have not heard about a pillow. It is a small rubber pad with a bulb. It works like a tonometer - using a bulb, air is pumped into it and it expands. In its normal state, it takes up little space, so it easily fits into thin cracks.
Such a thing costs about 200-300 rubles, so it makes sense to have it in your arsenal. Sometimes she can be simply irreplaceable.
So, when all the necessary kit is prepared, you can open the hood and the car:
- the pillow is pushed into the slot on the side where the battery is located;
- inflated to such an extent that you can get close to the terminals;
- the positive terminal is connected to the positive terminal, and the negative terminal can be connected to the body. It is not necessary to attach it to the battery; any metal part of the car will do;
- after that, the crocodiles are connected to a charged battery, and the central locking is opened from the key fob.
Do not forget that the plus is connected first, and then the minus.
Sometimes the hood method doesn't work. For example, there is no airbag, or it is not possible to make a sufficient gap to get to the battery. In this case, you will have to crawl under the car to open the lock.
Don't forget about safety precautions. The front end will have to be raised, so before you climb under it, you need to place the car on reliable stands. And it’s even better to do this with a partner - if something happens, there will be someone to provide emergency assistance.

- jack;
- stands.
The process itself is quite simple. You need to get to the generator and connect the positive terminal to it. If the engine protection gets in the way, you need to remove it; it won’t take much time.
The plus is connected to the positive terminal of the generator, and the minus to any part of the body. It is important not to mix them up, otherwise there will be a short circuit. In general, you first need to connect the crocodiles to the car, and then to the working battery.
One of the easiest ways to get into a car if the battery is not working is to open the hood. Moreover, you don’t have to break or cut anything, everything is much simpler.
All you need is a piece of stiff wire and a flashlight. At one end of the wire you need to make a hook to hook the hood opening mechanism. How do you think thieves open cars? If you get the hang of it, it will take a few seconds to open the hood with the standard lock - faster than it can be done from inside the car.
So, the sequence of actions:
- the wire is inserted either through the radiator grille, or through the car brand badge, or through the gap between the hood and the grille;
- one feels for the mechanism, hooks it with a wire and pulls it towards oneself or to the side.
This option is remarkable because many foreign cars have built-in protections that will not allow you to simply open the doors without a key.
If you can’t get through the radiator grille to the lock, you can go another way. To do this you will need to get to it from the engine compartment.
- first, you have to crawl under the car;
- the crankcase protection is removed - this gives direct access to the hood lock;
- Now you need to crawl up to the lock with your hand, feel for the lock ring and pull it. Sometimes it is difficult to open the hood on your own. Therefore, it is better if someone presses it from the outside at this time - this way it will open easier.
The disadvantage of this method is that it is not suitable for all cars. For example, you can use it if you are an eight or a nine.
How to start a car using the Starline A91 key fob
- The car must be in neutral gear. This is true for cars with manual transmission; automatic parking;
- all doors, hood and trunk must be closed;
- The car must be put on the handbrake.
The Starline A91 alarm system has two remote controls. The first is the main one, with an LCD display. To start the engine remotely, you need to press the following buttons: first click key 1. It must be held until a melodic signal sounds. After this, you need to briefly press the third button. Detailed instructions are presented in the video below.
Using the app
If you use a phone based on Android or iOS, then you can start the internal combustion engine using the program, the algorithm of actions is as follows:
- The operation of the GSM unit is checked.
- A cellular operator card is installed in a special module slot.
- For commands to be executed from the application, the SIM card must be activated in GPRS mode. This can be done through the official website of the mobile operator, in the account settings. Make sure your account balance is positive.
- Then an account is registered on the Starline website. When creating an account, a unique number of the signaling device, as well as the GPS unit, is indicated.
- The Starline program is downloaded to the mobile device; the official Apple Store or Google Play stores are used for downloading.
- The program is installed into the memory of the mobile device.
- After launching, the utility will require you to enter information about the anti-theft installation, as well as the mobile number of the GSM unit.
- The system will send a letter to your email that will allow you to complete the registration procedure.
- The program starts again. The user selects the desired options. By clicking on them, you can disable or enable the security mode, start the engine, turn it off, etc.
If the car is equipped with an automatic transmission, then the lever must be moved to the parking position to perform the function.

How to start a car using an alarm clock
The autorun function has several different options that the owner can configure at his own discretion. For example, you can set it to automatically start on an alarm clock. You should first make sure that the time on the key fob is set correctly for the correct execution of the program.
You need to position the cursor on the corresponding clock icon (using the third button). Then you need to press the first button and hear a melodic signal. The time on the key fob should blink, and the car's dimensions should blink once. Now the corresponding icon is displayed on the remote control, and the system has begun the countdown to autostart. The alarm clock indicators themselves are set in the same place as the clock parameter.
Using Remote Start, TZ-9030
Each car owner decides in his own way the question of how to protect himself from theft and how to withstand the cold in winter. Some install an autostart system. The car starts without leaving the room by pressing just one button on the alarm key fob.
But in order to avoid unforeseen incidents, you must strictly follow the instructions on how to turn on auto start on the Tomahawk alarm system. Especially when it comes to vehicles with a manual transmission.
How the engine autostart function works
On the electronic board, via a relay, connection parameters to sensors and ignition contacts are set. The unit is placed in a convenient location and connected to the necessary devices.
Based on the specified parameters, the relay is automatically switched from the key fob or mobile phone. After checking the pressure, the starter starts within two to four seconds.
The system operates in two main modes:
- With manual remote control, the car is started using the key fob;
- Automatic launch is done by command sent from the smartphone.
How to enable auto start on a Tomahawk alarm system?
Autostart is a convenient feature, but only if installed correctly. To remotely enable auto start on the Tomahawk alarm system, a number of conditions must be met.
How to check engine temperature
The alarm also has a remote temperature trigger function, which is convenient for cold climates. To do this you will need:
- first press the third button on the remote control (in the form of an asterisk), the key fob will emit one melodic signal;
- The display now shows a thermometer icon. It is necessary to move the cursor to this icon by pressing the third key again;
- Now you can set the required temperature value at which the engine will start. The operation step is three degrees Celsius;
- to confirm the choice, press the first key for a long time, up to two short signals;
How to turn off the car using the Starline A91 key fob after autostart
It is logical that along with the ability to start the car engine remotely, there is an option that allows you to turn off the power unit. Executing this command from both key fobs (main and additional) is carried out in the same way:
— initially, the first button is held for three seconds, and then the second key is briefly pressed.
There is also the ability to turn off the engine via the phone. If a call is made to the alarm SIM card, then code 22 is entered. If an SMS is sent, then the owner must write the numbers 22 inside the message.
Using a mobile call
You can start the car remotely by making a call. To do this, you need to make a call from your mobile number to the alarm phone. The anti-theft system is equipped with a special module in which a SIM card is installed. Please note that to complete the task, the number must be entered into the device’s memory and activated on the official Starline GSM monitoring web service.
To register, you must first send the appropriate command to the alarm phone number, which is specified in the operating manual. Using a mobile call, the car owner can control door locks and also perform other functions, for example, determine the coordinates of the car’s location.
After making a call to the GSM module number, the system will automatically answer and offer basic commands. To select a particular function, tone dialing is used and individual buttons on the mobile gadget are pressed. By default, Starline systems use the number 0 to listen to all available commands. Then the car owner selects the required section depending on what functions will be performed. By default, in Starline signaling, combination 21 is pressed remotely to start the engine, and 22 to stop the power unit. If the function is performed successfully, the system will respond with a voice message about the state of the car.

Functional properties of the KGB security system for a car:
- the ability to remotely turn on, turn off and configure the option of remote start of the car engine by time or interval;
- optimal operation of the security system with both diesel internal combustion engines and gasoline engines;
- the latest models of KGB signaling systems have implemented a more convenient interface for monitoring the start procedure and engine operation;
- engine start by timer or in accordance with air temperature;
- independent controllers are used to control the temperature in the car interior;
- when the protection mode is deactivated, the power unit is unlocked in two steps;
- independent indication of activation of security system controllers by level;
- the consumer will be able to additionally install regulators to control the machine’s security;
- when using KGB car alarms, the consumer has the opportunity to implement several different options for emergency disabling the anti-theft complex, in particular, using a password;
- engine operation can be monitored by indicating an engine fluid pressure sensor, a tachometer, or the voltage level in the electrical network;
- auxiliary channels can be used for control and configuration, there are four in total.
Via keychain tag
Starting the power unit through the tag is performed in the same way as using the main remote control. The tag is a second key fob operating in Slave mode. We are talking about a second remote control, not an additional one.
Using the Slave mode allows you to flash and activate the device in the memory of the signaling control module.
This procedure differs from the usual firmware process, since the device must be made to function in the above mode. Activation instructions may differ depending on the model; this point should be clarified in the service manual.
The procedure for starting an internal combustion engine requires the consumer to select a certain combination. For example, the security mode is turned off, and then, within a certain time, the car owner must have time to press the service button installed in the car’s interior. This will deactivate the protective function. The procedure for starting and stopping the engine depends only on how the car owner has configured it.

How to setup
Location of buttons on the device
Guide to linking the FX-7 key fob:
- First you need to turn on the key fob. Install the battery in it and wait for the device to activate.
- Insert the key into the lock and turn to activate the ignition.
- Find the installation location for the Valet service key. If you installed the security system yourself, then remember where you placed the button. If the installation was carried out by specialists, then check this point with the car service center. Often the service button is installed under the dashboard and is masked with a standard wiring harness. When the button is found, press and hold it until the complex siren plays four beeps.
- After waiting for the signal, hold down the first and second keys of the pager, this will activate the recording mode. To bind a spare key fob that is not equipped with a screen, you need to hold down the third and fourth keys. When the devices are linked to the security system, the system will emit one sound signal.
- The steps described in the previous paragraph are repeated for each linked remote control. Between the procedure of recording several pagers, an interval of no more than five seconds must be maintained. If more than 5 seconds pass between binding several key fobs, the security complex will automatically leave the programming mode. Siren signals will indicate that the pager is linked; their number corresponds to the number of the key fob being configured.
- After completing the procedure, turn off the ignition. When the alarm exits the programming mode, the car's turning lights should blink five times.
Ignition switch wire designations
Look at the diagram shown in the figure.
The above does not mean that both cords can be connected together and connected using the circuits discussed here. The diagrams indicate one wire (ST1) that makes up the starter power circuit. This option is suitable:
- For all domestic cars without exception;
- For new foreign cars;
- For foreign cars up to 90-91 years of manufacture.
This is the paradox - the “ST2” cord is not provided in the new, as well as in the oldest models.

Here's how to connect the Tomahawk TZ-9030 main unit to the ignition switch to use autostart. Of course, after installation, you need to do programming, which is discussed below. If the use of a lineman is required, connect it to the terminal of the main alarm connector (black and red cord). The power connector, in turn, has the following wiring.
If we talk about the Tomahawk TW-9010 model, the purpose of the IGN3 pin will be different from what is being considered here.
In "Chapter 1" the designations were listed: IGN1, IGN2, ACC, starter wire (ST). The “IGN3” cord has been added here, but it replaces the ACC wire. The “blue” cord coming out of the alarm terminal block must be connected to the ACC contact, otherwise the autostart will not work. At the same time, if you make changes to the settings, the IGN3 pin can be connected to the ST2 pin. True, it is not clear how to “emulate” the ACC wire then.
A “T” connection is used when connecting to all wires except the starter. And the “ST” cord needs to be cut to connect the resulting ends with the black and yellow wires. The cable that goes to the alarm from the lock is a signal cable (thin).

A non-standard method of switching starter current is typical for the following alarm model: Tomahawk TW-9010. Voltage is supplied here from the 6-pin power terminal block when autostart is performed. The rest of the time, the starter wire conducts current, even if the car alarm does not work or does not work correctly. A blocking relay is included in the gap in the standard wiring. Whether it can be removed from the scheme is unknown. It is better, therefore, to stick to the recommended option.
How to disable?
Disabling the protection mode in KGB alarms is done by pressing the remote control button in the form of an open lock.
Further user actions:
- To leave the car's engine remotely, you need to click and hold the first button until the key fob emits four beeps. The side lights should blink the same number of times. This will cause the motor to turn off. Protection mode will be activated.
- If you want to stop the engine and disable the protective mode, then hold down the first key and then briefly click on it. These steps apply to the FX-5 and FX-8 models.
For models FX-7, G-5 and FX-10, the shutdown procedure is different:
- To do this, you need to click the key under the second number and hold it until the pager plays a melodic signal.
- To confirm the option, click on the third button.
To turn off the motor in GX-5RS alarms, the procedure is similar, only confirmation is sent with the second key.
How to start the engine with key fob A, B, D, E
Remote autostart of the car engine from the remote control in alarms A91, A93, A94 and other modules is carried out by sequentially clicking on key 1 on the control key fob. To start the power unit, this button is pressed for a few seconds, then released and pressed again. To turn off a remotely started engine from the alarm remote control, you need to perform similar steps.
If the engine cannot be started, then you can try a different algorithm of action, typical for restyled models of anti-theft installations. In such versions of the A91 and A93 alarms, key 1 is pressed and held until the key fob emits a beep. As soon as you heard it, press key 3 to start the internal combustion engine. To stop the power unit, button 1 on the remote control is held until a melodic signal sounds, and then button 2 is pressed.

Activation of the autostart function is only possible when the parking brake is applied and the gear is in neutral.

The Incognito9323 channel, using the example of a Chevrolet car, showed how to remotely start a car engine.
A familiar problem: you bought a car, and it has a KGB alarm installed, to which is attached a key fob with the inscription TFX 5. The manual for the alarm of the specified model will be difficult to find. Usually, instructions are searched for by the name of the key fob. Let us note right away: a key fob with the name TFX 5 can be included with one alarm system. It is offered under the FX-5 brand, and the T stands for “transmitter” and nothing else. To prove this, there is a video showing all the elements of the kit. Pay attention to how the inscription on the keychain looks.
Implementation of autorun
Let's open the instructions and look at the basic diagram:
It is unlikely that anything can be understood here without additional explanations. Let's list the main points:
- To control the immobilizer bypass, you need to use “output 3” (black-red wire). The instructions say that it is activated in two cases: when the autostart or turbo timer is running.
- The red wire is connected to the 30th terminal of the lock, the yellow wire to the 15th terminal. If autostart is not needed, the yellow wire is still connected.
- The two cords included in the starter cable break are black and white and black and yellow wires. The first of them must be connected to terminal “50” directly.
The voltage on the ACC wire disappears when the starter engages. And the purpose of the green wire can be changed programmatically. By default, it duplicates the “output of the 1st circuit” (yellow cord), but can also duplicate the “ACC output”.
Your car alarm should track the position of the key. One cable from the “power” connector is connected in any case. This is a yellow insulated cord. Do not skip connecting it, otherwise you will not be able to complete the setup.
Autostart will not work if the signal wires are not connected. Of these, the first and ninth are “nutrition”. In general, the KGB FX system monitors the state of the limit switches:
- Cord 16 is connected to the output of the handbrake limit switch or brake pedal (see diagram). The potential on the wire should vary from “12 Volts” to “zero”. It is useless to provide constant zero potential!
- The door trigger wire also needs to be connected correctly. Automatic starting is prohibited when the door is open. You don’t have to connect the 7th and 17th cables, but then the meaning of installing the signaling is lost.
- It would be very advisable to connect the control wire number “6”. There are two options: control by a charge lamp or by a tachometer. The settings are initially set to the first option.
The connection diagram for the 16th wire looks like this:
For a car with a manual transmission, the second option, shown in the figure below, is suitable.
The KGB FX-5 signal housing is equipped with a plastic cover. Below it is the gearbox selection loop. If we are talking about cars with “mechanics”, connection with autostart cannot be made without cutting this loop.
Only two power cables can be connected - yellow and red. This is done to use the turbo timer. Your security system is equipped with a semi-automatic timer. It works like this:
- First, while the motor is not turned off, cord 16 should receive potential “0”;
- Then the key can be removed, and the engine will continue to run for the time specified in the settings.
By skipping “step 1” you will cancel the timer. Which is true even if the gearbox loop remains uncut.
We are working on bugs
Important! If you disarm a car that is prepared for autostart, the reservation mode will be canceled and the reservation will have to be done from the beginning.
- From the handbrake: with the engine running, apply the handbrake, then turn off the ignition. With this setting, pulling the handbrake while the engine is running automatically triggers the backup relays of the autostart module - when you remove the key from the ignition, the engine will continue to run. When the alarm receives a signal about the opening and closing of the doors (the driver and passengers have left) and is armed, the engine will stall and the car will be ready to start. Let's disable mandatory arming - then the car will stall immediately when the doors are closed, but if you open the door again, the reservation will be cancelled. The option when the engine stalls when armed is preferable.
- Button on the key fob - while the engine is running, tighten the handbrake and then press button 2 on the key fob. At this moment, autostart will be reserved; further actions will be as in step 1
- When the ignition is turned off, backup occurs automatically when you try to turn off the engine with the ignition key. You should not use this mode.
If you have a car with an automatic transmission, there is no need for a “soft neutral” mechanism. Therefore, the autostart backup mechanisms in the first and third options are different - in the first case, pulling the handbrake is mandatory, in the second, backup will occur every time the ignition is turned off. This is more convenient in winter, so as not to risk the pads freezing. Unlike the setting on a manual transmission, the engine stalls immediately when the ignition is turned off.
After the reservation, autostart is used - by pressing or holding button 1 of the key fob or using the mobile application if you have a telematics module installed. In this case, the order of operation of the alarm is as follows:
- The ignition duplication relay is activated. For a car, this is the same as turning on the ignition with the key.
- A signal is sent to the immobilizer crawler to simulate the presence of a chip.
- After a few seconds for the fuel pump to work out or the glow plugs to warm up, a signal is sent to the starter relay - an attempt to start is made.
Further actions are determined by the settings: by cranking the starter, the alarm constantly tries to determine the fact of starting. If information about this can be read from the CAN bus, then everything is simple; with an analog connection, a signal is required depending on the settings:
- A sharp increase in the signal frequency at the tachometer input (setting “by tachosignal”)
- Appearance of voltage at the input (setting (“by generator”)
- Increasing the voltage in the on-board network (the “battery charging” setting) is the worst method, which we avoid, as it leads to overexposure of the starter in the on state.
If the alarm does not detect a start, the ignition and starter are turned off, and after a delay the cycle is repeated several more times. Having failed to start the engine after all attempts, the alarm sends the corresponding information to the key fob.
In theory, any car alarm has the properties listed here. The presence or absence of difficulties in setting is determined by the vehicle’s circuitry, and not by the presence of a malfunction in the security system. Starline, however, provided the user with instructions on how to solve the problems that arose.
The generator should work like this
It would be pointless to change the sensitivity of the control circuit, and this option is not provided in the Star Line signaling. Use another method, such as tachometer monitoring.
There is advice that is not given either in the instructions or in the reviews. Having connected the “black-gray” wire to the charge lamp, try using both settings options – 2 or 3. If this does not help, connect to another contact of the lamp. But the best method, as Starline experts themselves say, is to read the engine tachometer signal.
ICE tachometer pulses
To implement this option, the control cord is connected to the high-voltage terminal of the tachometer. You can also use the injector control output if we are talking about an injection internal combustion engine. Then the sensitivity of the signal input is adjusted, and this operation is discussed in more detail in the following chapters.
The functions of more complex systems that do not belong to the Star Line Dialog family include monitoring the operation of the internal combustion engine using an oil pressure sensor. The method works ideally only with some engines, and at low temperatures it malfunctions. Use exactly the control method that is reliable when used under different conditions.
Setting up the system from scratch
Having opened the instructions for the KGB signaling, you can immediately find the table:
The settings responsible for autostart alternate with security options, but there is nothing wrong with that. You can download the photo and print it on a printer - no changes were made during copying. Don't forget to connect the Valet module as well as "cord 5" of the power connector. You will also need the KGB TFX key fob.
Programming order
To access the settings, follow a set of steps:
- Turn on the ignition, press the Valet button 6 times, then turn off the ignition;
- There should be 6 beeps and 6 LED flashes;
- By pressing the Valet button, select the option number;
- By pressing a key on the key fob, a new value is set;
- Steps "3" and "4" can be repeated;
- Finally, the ignition is turned on.
You can also perform a “reset”. The amendments will be as follows: in step 1 you need not 6, but 10 clicks, and in step 3 select “option 1”. Then press “key 1” on the key fob, as when selecting “value 1”. The settings are reset to “factory values”.
The TFX 5 key fob has a AA battery. Carry out all replacement actions near the alarm itself. Having removed the “old” element, press key 1 briefly. Then a “new” battery is installed.
Idle training
If the control cord was connected to the tachometer, function 8 is assigned a value of 3 or 4. But this will not be enough. Training required:
- First, turn on the ignition, press the Valet button 9 times and turn off the ignition;
- There should be 9 beeps;
- The ignition is turned on, the engine is started, and wait until constant speed is established;
- Press and hold the Valet button until a beep sounds or the LED goes out.
As a result, the alarm will recognize engine speed.
It is better to control the engine using the tachometer signal. You can install two parts into the wire gap: a capacitor with a capacity of 1 mKF (47 Volts) and a resistor of 400-600 kOhm.
Classic methods
If the battery is dead, then one way or another you will have to get into the cabin or under the hood. Let's list the classic ways to open a car without a key:
- pry the door handle with wire. This can be done if the window is left slightly open. If not, you will have to bend the upper corner of the door. To do this, you can use either a special pillow or a wooden wedge, which must be carefully driven into the crack of the doorway.
- Another option is to try inserting a wire with a hook at the end between the window glass and the seal. And pry them off the lock rod. This option has one drawback - it will only work on old machines;
- You can also drill out the lock cylinder. After this, you will have to replace the entire set of locks on the car;
- The most urgent option is to break out the glass. If you decide to do it, consult a car store about which glass is the cheapest for your car.
As you can see, there are a lot of options. Of course, it is better to monitor the battery and avoid situations where it can completely run out.
But, if this has already happened, the main thing is not to rashly rush to damage the car - you will always have time to do this. It is best to soberly assess the situation and act slowly and thoughtfully. As a last resort, you can always turn to specialists for help.
When the car is parked for a long time, the battery on it can easily discharge and an unpleasant situation may arise.
