The Tomahawk line of car alarms was one of the first in the domestic segment to acquire an auto-start engine function. The advent of the new option took place more than 10 years ago, and it is clear that today few people will be surprised by this opportunity. In the era of development of telematics systems, a budget two-way module without innovative additions may seem outdated. Nevertheless, in terms of its basic operating qualities, the Tomahawk 9010 looks worthy against the background of modern security systems.
System functionality
The entire set of functions can be divided into two groups. The first will include the basic capabilities that almost all electronic car alarms have, and the second will include additional capabilities that are characteristic of modern models. As for the main security tools, the first thing worth noting is the Tomahawk 9010 key fob with a miniature screen through which you can program the module and control key functions. The user will have a full set of protective mechanisms for windows, doors and trunk with hood. All manipulations with security modes can be accompanied by light and sound signals, vibration and the sending of appropriate messages.
The most interesting, of course, are the additional options, the main one in this module being autorun. Using this function, you can pre-set the car to warm up with the engine running. The Tomahawk 9010 system offers a wide range of parameters for autostart control, indicating time, operation intervals and remote control. Also among the auxiliary functions are a self-diagnosis mode, receiving information from sensors (temperature and shock), microclimate control in the cabin and protection against false alarms.
Tomahawk 9010 instructions: functionality
The number of functions performed using communicators may differ (design features of Tomahawk alarm key fobs).
List of main functions:
- arming and disarming;
- remote start and stop of the vehicle’s internal combustion engine (temperature and time parameters);
- searching for a car in the parking lot;
- control of the trunk lid lock separately from the car doors;
- step-by-step control of the operation of all car locks;
- remote connection (service mode);
Note: programming of the main functions occurs via a button located in the car interior - “Override”.
Modification "Tomahawk TW 9010"
The 9010 series has a long life, and one of its first generations was the TW module, which received a basic set of functions, and a few years later, due to technological obsolescence, it was replaced by the TZ package. But, oddly enough, in terms of software, the modifications are almost identical. One of the key performance characteristics is signal range. In the case of TW, it is only 800 m. The approach to completing the system, which does not have a siren, tag, tilt sensors and call sensors for the car owner, may also seem old-fashioned. But the Tomahawk 9010 in this version includes a temperature sensor. It is important to note that the absence of some functional components does not mean that the module does not support them in principle - accordingly, additional purchase will be required. The lack of devices is compensated for by wide arming capabilities and advanced modes. In particular, the working programs “Jack” and “Anti-Hack” are provided.
Pros and cons of the anti-theft system
Tomahawk anti-theft systems are in great demand due to the following advantages:
- blocking the engine using a relay in case of car theft;
- autostart with a given temperature regime when protection is turned on;
- security password.
The disadvantages include the complexity of installation, which requires special knowledge. The service life of the main key fob is short. Sometimes it has to be repaired after six months of operation.
In general, Tomahawk alarm systems with auto start meet modern requirements for ensuring vehicle safety.
Price issue
The Tomakavk product range makes it possible to select an alarm system for consumers with any financial situation.
1. Installation kit TZ-9010 (price from 2600 rub.)
2. Installation kit for X5 (price from RUB 3,800)
3. Set TZ-9030 (price from 4500 rub.)
Modification "Tomahawk TZ 9010"
For the most part, this version retained the entire set of useful functions, and performance indicators in certain parameters were improved. Thus, the range in this version is no longer 800, but 1200 m, and the number of zones controlled via the key fob has expanded from 6 to 7. As for the configuration, the new package is more attractive - it contains a full set of sensors with a driver call button, but there is also a lack of a label. There are also features in terms of functionality. The Tomahawk TZ 9010 modification allows you to receive signals from the tachometer, as well as respond to the reaction of the pressure regulation system. Together, this makes it possible to more effectively control engine operation remotely. But on the other hand, the TW version allows you to control the engine based on noise in the on-board network. Otherwise, it is worth considering that both generations of the series are built on a single element platform and at least the quality of their hardware corresponds to each other.
Advantages of the model
The acceptable low cost of the kit is combined with wide functionality that satisfies many consumers. The security system is convenient, as it is equipped with control buttons and a liquid crystal display. We are pleased with the code protection of the functionality and reliable protection of the car. Since this car alarm is of very high quality, it will last a long time. Installing Basic Components
The controller (or control unit) is located in the cabin - optimally if there is a place for it under the dashboard. Fastening is carried out using profile clamps, brackets or other fasteners depending on the design of the car. The main thing is to eliminate the vibration effect, thereby reducing the likelihood of damage to the Tomahawk 9010 system unit. The RF antenna placement instructions note that it should be mounted as high as possible while minimizing interference. Installation is carried out in different ways depending on the selected point. The limitation on the choice of placement of this component is due to the exclusion of contacts with electrical wiring and metal surfaces.
Mechanical protection will be provided by trunk and hood triggers. In order for the Tomahawk 9010 alarm system to reliably provide control of these devices, they should be placed in closed and protected from moisture places. Otherwise, there will be a risk of the mechanisms jamming. Also, sensors are placed in protected points, but in such a way that they still have access to the target area - to monitor the condition of window glass or temperature conditions. The detectors are mounted using self-tapping screws or gluing.
How to install a car alarm
Detailed information along with the connection diagram is provided in the instruction manual. You can download the instructions from the link. The following describes the general principles of operation:
- Initially, the terminal is removed from the battery, the front panel is disassembled and the working surface is prepared;
- the alarm system is assembled and tested for serviceability before installation;
- The main processor is installed in the cabin. It is important to protect it from high temperatures and moisture for correct operation;
- The antenna is installed at the highest point, but away from metal parts that interfere with radio signals. An LED is displayed on the windshield to indicate the system status;
- The Override service key is mounted. Its location should be hidden from the eyes of an intruder, because the button allows you to turn off the alarm in an emergency;
- an audible siren is installed (the best place is under the hood, away from sources of high temperatures), as well as door, trunk, and hood limit switches (in places inaccessible to moisture);
- The connectors are connected, the operation of the system is tested directly on the car.
Connection
In the process of introducing an alarm system into the electrical infrastructure of a car, the use of several wires will be required. So, to connect to the starter, a black and yellow 12 V cable is used with a signal output to the equipment relay. Auxiliary equipment for the Tomahawk 9010 system is connected to the network through a blue wire - this connection will provide a 12 V output signal with ACC ignition. The power supply wire, a thin red outline, will be responsible for power supply to the system. It should be connected to the battery pack via a fuse.
A thick red wire is also included in the kit. With its help, power supply is separately provided to the circuit that serves the remote start function. Regardless of the purpose of the wire, all electrical circuits of the Tomahawk 9010 alarm must have reliable insulation. It is desirable that the cable lines be laid in places that are not affected by thermal and electromagnetic radiation from local equipment.
System characteristics
Tomahawk S 700 has the following technical data:
- consumed nominal voltage – 12 V;
- current consumption when the ignition is off – 16 mA;
- operating frequency – 433.92 MHz;
- FM frequency modulation;
- range - up to 1200 m.
Current consumption data:
- 15 A – red wire with fuse (power circuit);
- 15 A – central locking control relay contacts;
- 30 A – circuit of contacts of an external blocking relay;
- 1.5 A – green wire (siren power output +);
- 5 A – black and white wire with fuse (output of the 1st additional channel);
- 300 mA – yellow-black wire (output of the 2nd additional channel);
- 300 mA – blue-black wire (polite backlight control output -);
- 300 mA – black-red wire (locking relay control output).
Instructions for setting up sensors
Threshold values are set for the temperature detector at which it will send signals to the key fob or automatically adjust the autorun operation - this depends on the previously set program. The shock sensor included in the set of new Tomahawk 9010 modifications is also configured separately. The instructions indicate that the sensitivity of the device should be adjusted based on the results of tests of its operation. To do this, you need to lightly tap on the body to provoke it to give a signal. The blows should follow in series and give a noticeable push. This way, there is a balance in the level of sensitivity - the response threshold should not be excessively low, but high limits are also undesirable, since there will be a possibility of ignoring the actions of an attacker.
Installation of an alarm unit
Now we begin to disassemble the center console in order to make a place for installing the main alarm unit:
It is advisable to immediately remove from the block those wires that are not needed:
- Blue – red (door sensor positive control);
- Yellow-black (1 additional channel);
- Yellow-blue (3 additional channel);
- Blue (interior lighting);
- Black-red (IGN3);
- Purple (anti-HI-JACK button);
- Yellow-red (additional channel 2);
- Black and white (additional blocking).
Now remove and solder the blue wire with a black stripe to the oil pressure sensor wire.
Then connect to the LED, which will turn on when the doors are opened. Next, we disassemble the panel and solder the wire to the cathode. We begin to draw out the wiring.
This wire connects to the blue-black one, which is located on the alarm unit itself. That's it, the panel can be put back in place. Now on the ignition switch block we are looking for a white-red wire - a permanent plus, to it you need to solder the red wire coming from the power connector of the signaling. The black and white wire is responsible for the starter, you need to cut it and hook it up according to the diagram.
Don't forget to solder a diode to it to avoid self-induction.
There is also a black and yellow wire on the lock - this is the ignition switch, IGN1 is soldered to it. A black and yellow thin wire is responsible for ACC; you need to solder the blue wire to it. The green IGN2 wire is soldered to the red-black wire.
Now the resulting harness is wound with insulating tape along with the relay, and connected to the alarm. Now we solder to the turn signal relay, it is located behind the small glove compartment to the right of the steering wheel.
Then we solder the green-black and green-yellow wires to the relay.
All that remains is to connect the transceiver to the windshield.
The shock sensor must be attached with double-sided tape to any metal part of the body.
The modern automotive electronics market offers consumers many types of anti-theft systems. Moreover, alarm models can have not only protective, but also additional functions aimed at making driving more comfortable. What the Tomahawk 9010 alarm system is, the operating instructions, as well as installation recommendations are described in this article.

User manual
Most actions will be performed using the key fob. Using buttons assigned to specific tasks, the user can arm the car, disarm it from this mode, connect protective equipment, etc. Separately, you can configure the accompanying reactions - the same visual effects, messages and sound signals from the Tomahawk 9010 module. Autostart can be programmed through the system unit or controlled remotely. Using the same key fob, the parameters for starting the engine in the current mode or at a certain time are set.
Tomahawk alarm: features
Good technical characteristics and excellent price-quality ratio make the Tomahawk alarm system in demand. Tomahawk car alarms are equipped with feedback and multifunctional remote engine start.
Each alarm has its own installation instructions (connection, configuration, programming, etc.). The alarm system is supplied with two key fobs to control the system (main, auxiliary), differing in appearance and number of buttons.
The main key fob with five buttons has a liquid crystal display, and the auxiliary key fob with four buttons has an additional indicator diode. Key fobs equipped with transmitters (transceiver devices) operate at a frequency of 434 Mhz. Taking into account the fact that the transmitter power does not exceed 7-10 mW, permission to use the frequency range is not required.
Autorun function
Tomahawk autostart allows you to start warming up the car from a distance using the key fob buttons or using a timer. To do this, you need to make the appropriate settings. At the same time, the alarm itself monitors the voltage of the on-board network using special proprietary software.
To enable the autorun function, you need to know which buttons to press. Depending on the model, the buttons and functions may differ, however, in most cases they are the same. For example, in the Tomahawk Q9 Dialog model or you need to press the key that has a key on it. After this, the headlights should turn on and off three times and the siren will signal three times that the function has been completed. The display should then show several icons:
In this case, the motor will operate in accordance with the set period of time. You can program the engine operating time yourself; to do this, you need to study the table attached to the alarm with the relevant information. Then the motor will automatically turn off until the next start. You can also increase the engine warm-up time by pressing the “lock” and “key” buttons simultaneously. Each such press adds exactly 5 minutes, the maximum increase in time is 20 minutes. The display or will show the time remaining until the engine turns off.
Starting the engine of models 9.3, as well as 9.5 and others cannot be carried out only if the following requirements are met:
- The gearshift lever is not installed in the neutral position;
- the car hood is open;
- the ignition is already on;
- The car is not on the handbrake.
In these cases, when you try to autostart an alarm model, for example, TZ-9030 or 9.9, four beeps will sound. Additionally, in some models you can set the starter cranking time.
Self-installation of Tomahawk TW 9010 alarm system
Before installing this model of security system yourself, it is recommended to check its functionality. Before installation, the Tomahawk 9010 alarm components must be connected to each other in one circuit, which is powered by a 12-volt power source. This will allow you to check the operation of the “alarm” before it is installed directly on the car.
Connection diagram and wire designations
Wiring diagram for connecting the main microprocessor module
When making connections to the main connector of an installed car alarm yourself, the user must be guided by the following data:
Color | Purpose |
Black | "Ground" or negative pole. It must be connected directly to the battery or to any standard bolt screwed into the body. It is important that it is fixed as firmly as possible. |
Blue | Cable for connecting the interior lighting system. It is also possible to connect the contact to the window lift motor. When the protection is activated and disabled, the current on the line should be no more than 300 mA. |
Red-black | Contact connecting to the ignition switch with output IGN3 |
Yellow-black | Cable for connecting the starter lock relay |
Red-yellow | Contact for implementing a second additional channel used to control electrical equipment |
Black-gray | Output for connecting the tachometer cable or the engine fluid pressure controller in the lubrication system |
Red-blue | Positive input for connecting door and hood sensors |
White-orange | Negative output for door lock controllers |
Violet | Contact for implementing the “Anti-robbery” option. The function should be turned on when a negative signal appears on the line. |
Black-green | Power cable for side optics or light signaling. The circuit must be protected by a fuse device rated at 7.5 amps. |
Yellow-green | A similar contact for connecting external lighting devices |
Black and white | Programmable additional powertrain locking |
Grey | Contact for connecting siren power supply |
Blue-yellow | Cable for implementing a third additional channel or two-stage opening of door locks |
Black and yellow | Contact for remote opening of the tailgate |
Purple-orange | Wire for connecting to the parking brake lever sensor. If the car is equipped with a manual transmission, then the contact is connected to the negative signal of the handbrake. If you have an automatic transmission, the connection is made to the brake light circuit. |
Black-blue and gray-orange | Contacts for connecting door and hood controller inputs |
One of the main nuances that must be taken into account when installing and connecting yourself is connecting the contacts on the autostart connector:
Color | Purpose |
Yellow-black | Contact for connection to the starter mechanism. This element must be connected to the output on the ignition switch, where a 12-volt voltage is generated when the key is turned to the “Starter” position. Used to start the power unit, it is necessary to make a connection in the area after the blocking relay. |
Blue | Output pulse for auxiliary devices and equipment. It must be connected to the ignition switch contact, which generates a 12-volt voltage when the key is in the “ACC” mode. |
Red (thin) | System power cable. Must be connected directly to the positive terminal of the battery. The electrical circuit must be protected by a 10 amp fuse device. |
Red (thick) | Power supply contact for remote start power lines. It also needs to be connected directly to the battery. But this circuit must have a 40 amp fuse installed. |
Yellow | Contact element IGN1. It must be connected to the ignition switch, to the output where a 12-volt voltage is generated when the key is switched to “ACC” mode. It is important that the load on the line does not disappear in the “Starter” position. |
Green | Contact element IGN2. Must be connected to the contact on the lock, where voltage appears in the "ACC" mode and disappears in the "Starter" |
Selecting the location of the main blocks
Correctly determining the installation location of the component elements is necessary taking into account the design features of the car:
- The control module of the Tomahawk 9010 automotive system is installed in the vehicle interior, in the most hidden place and protected from external influences. It should be placed with the connector facing down to prevent liquid drops from running down the wires and moisture from getting inside. It is possible to install the device behind the instrument cluster; it must first be dismantled and turned off.
- In accordance with the Tomahawk 9010 operating manual, the siren is installed under the hood of the car. The wires from the device must be routed to the control unit in the passenger compartment; electrical circuits must not be accessible from under the bottom of the car. The siren should be placed in a hidden place, not exposed to elevated temperatures. If an autonomous device is used, then it is necessary to ensure free access to its well.
- Door triggers must be embedded in places protected from moisture. When these body parts are locked, the limit switches should not be accessible. Wiring from the devices is routed to the microprocessor.
- The shock and sensitivity controller is installed inside the car. Ideally, its installation should be done in the central part of the body. The device is fixed on a flat surface using glue or self-tapping screws.
- All high current lines must be protected with safety devices of a certain rating. Available in the form of a wire for connecting marker optics, power supply for alarm systems, and central locking.
The Tomahawk 9010 transceiver is located on the windshield, away from metal objects and electronic devices, as their presence will cause interference.
User DimASS showed the process of installing the Tomahawk 9010 car alarm using the example of a Nissan Tiida car.
Installing the hood opening sensor
When installing the Tomahawk TW 9010 alarm system with your own hands, you need to install the hood controller:
- At the end of the body element, a hole of the required diameter is drilled with a drill. It needs to be done in a place least exposed to moisture, where there is no drainage.
- The cable is being laid from the hood to the microprocessor. The wire is routed from the engine compartment into the passenger compartment through a special technological hole in the partition.
- The sensor is being installed on the hood. The free play of the limit switch rod must be at least 5 mm. After installation, the device is connected.
- Then all joints are fixed by soldering. The twisting method is not recommended because it is less reliable. If you have a multimeter, you can check the operation of the sensor with the hood open and locked.
Connecting the trunk sensor
Installing the trunk sensor is performed in the same way:
- The location where the controller will be located is marked on the tailgate. Using a drill, a technological hole for the sensor is drilled.
- The cable is being laid from the luggage compartment to the microprocessor. The gasket is made under the decorative lining of the interior. Do not place conductors in places where there are moving and rubbing body elements.
- The controller is installed on the tailgate. After installation, the free play of its rod is checked, which should be no more than 5 mm.
- The device is being connected. All connections are made using soldering. The contact points must be wrapped with electrical tape or heat-shrinkable tubing installed on the wire.
Connecting the central lock
To connect the central locking (CL), perform the following steps:
- The central locking control module is removed. This assembly is usually located on the back of the main fuse mounting block. To dismantle, you need to unscrew the bolts that secure the device, and then disconnect the wires from it.
- The contacts are soldered in accordance with the diagram. It is allowed to use backup door position outputs.
- Then the control module is connected and reinstalled using the central lock.
Setting up the shock sensor
It is necessary to configure the operation of the sensitivity controller using special adjustments located on the sensor. Initially, you need to bring the operating parameter of the device to the minimum value. The sensitivity is then gradually increased, and the user must check this value periodically. To do this, you need to lightly tap on the vehicle body.
Trigger by temperature
Many alarm models from the presented manufacturer provide an additional engine temperature sensor, which is mounted under the hood. It allows you to enable automatic start based on temperature. If it is not there or for some reason it does not work, then the function is triggered by a sensor inside the cabin.
To activate the function, press and hold the “trunk open” and “key” keys. The headlights will flash once and the siren will sound. An icon in the form of a snowflake and the warm-up temperature, which was previously programmed, will appear on the display, after which a melody will play. The next engine start will be carried out automatically at the previously set time. To disable autostart, you need to press the “open trunk” and “key” buttons again. In this case, the headlights should turn on and off twice and the key fob will beep twice. The “snowflake” icon will disappear on the display and the melody will play.
The function can be activated no more than six times every two hours. You can set temperature conditions from 5 to 30 degrees.
Types and models
The Tomahawk company produces alarms for different consumers. The range includes anti-theft systems for both high-class cars, for example, the elite X5, and for the middle class. They differ in the set of functions and, accordingly, in price.
TZ-9010
This alarm system, in addition to the basic ones, is equipped with the following functions:
- autostart;
- anti-grabber;
- anti-scanner;
- protection against false positives.
If problems arise with the car, the system warns the driver. One of the important advantages is the self-diagnosis function. If a malfunction is detected, the system will alert the owner.
TZ-9020
This model adds non-volatile memory to the functions listed above. This means that the system will remember all settings even if the power is turned off. Another pleasant plus is the presence of an immobilizer.
Security system TZ-9020
TZ-9030
This Tomahawk alarm model has an extended range of about 1200 meters. There is a function to open the trunk from a distance and block the engine in case of unauthorized start.
TW-7000
Although the model was discontinued a long time ago, at one time it was installed on many machines and these devices are still used thanks to their capabilities:
- search for a stolen car;
- protection against attacks, driver notification;
- protection against false positives.
The system has excellent protection against hacking and automatically goes into security mode.
434 mhz
The 434 mhz alarm system belongs to budget models, but is equipped with a full range of functions for ease of use. The key fob has a two-way communication system and is capable of receiving information at a distance of more than a kilometer. For the Tomahawk 434 mhz frequency car alarm, the instructions for use are the same as for other models, so setting it up is easy, having experience with setting up other models.
How to determine the model by key fob?
Tomahawk security system kits are equipped with key fobs with five buttons.
Types of Tomahawk keychains
The company logo is printed on them. Each model has differences that also apply to the key fob.
You can find out the details from the manual, but there are several methods by which you can determine the model and type of alarm:
- there is an inscription and marking on the back of the key fob or in the compartment where the batteries are located;
- information about the model and brand of signaling can be found on the main unit;
- key fobs differ in shape, size, location of the antenna and display.
The Tomahawk alarm keychain has a classic shape with the company emblem in the form of an Indian head with plumage.
Run every day
To start the car, it is not necessary to set the automatic start function every day. To do this, in some models you can use the engine start functions for every day by simultaneously pressing and holding the “mute” and “key” keys. You must turn the headlights on and off once, a clock icon will appear on the key fob and a melody will play. Then the system will independently start the engine, starting the next day at the set autostart time.
Disabling on or 10.1 and others occurs by pressing the same keys. The headlights should flash twice, the clock icon disappears and a melody plays. You can activate the start at 1, 2, 4 and 12 hours by pressing the above buttons and within five seconds additionally press the corresponding button on the key fob:
- “lock” - starts the engine every hour;
- “key”—the interval between activation is two hours;
- “open trunk” - the engine will start every four hours;
- “Sound off” - the engine will start in twelve hours.
These functions operate on various alarm models, for example or 9.7 and others. However, before using such settings, you must carefully study the instructions supplied with the alarm. This is because the key combinations may differ from those shown. This also applies to those cases when you need to turn off the engine using the key fob.
Tomahawk 9010: Icons and Buttons
Buttons located on the main and additional key fobs:
- 1 – designation “closed lock”;
- 2 – designation “key”;
- 3 – designation “icon of a car with an open trunk lid”;
- 4 – designation “speaker crossed out with two dashes”.
Note: The 5th button is located only on the main key fob - the designation “F” in a circle. To inform the driver about the status of the alarm, there are many different icons on the liquid crystal screen of the main key fob: the parking brake is on, the locks are locked, the trunk lid is open, the battery charge level, operation in security mode, temperature measurement scale, activation of the anti-theft mode, etc.
Some malfunctions
In certain cases, autorun does not work. This can happen for various reasons, but there are a number of basic errors that lead to these problems. For example, having installed the X5 model, the key fob settings were made incorrectly, which does not allow you to set one or another mode and activate the autostart function. It is necessary to configure the system accordingly to avoid such problems. If the car does not start automatically, then you should contact a specialist. There may have been errors made when connecting the system. The same applies to those cases when the car starts and stalls.
When installing such a serious and complex system on your car, you should never hope. That you can handle this on your own without the proper knowledge. In this work, professionalism and knowledge of the device as a whole are important. Otherwise, you will not get the desired result and may even damage the car, which will lead to failure of car components and costly repairs.
How to install warm-up on a Tomahawk is a fairly pressing issue in our time. The auto-heating function, installed on the basis of the alarm, is considered very useful especially for those who have to leave their car unattended for a long time in the cold season, as they say, “under clear skies.”
It would seem that putting the car on heating is simple, especially if there are instructions, but if it is lost, what should you do? Should you contact the company where you installed the alarm?
The second option is much simpler
, faster and more profitable, because you don’t have to go anywhere. So what should you do if you need to warm up your car if you are using a modern Tomahawk car alarm? As you know, this system has an additional temperature sensor, which is installed under the hood of the car. If you have instructions, you can see the installation location of the sensor in the diagrams.
If there is a sensor
, warming up and starting the car engine is carried out according to the readings of this device, and if there is no such sensor, then the start is carried out based on the temperature sensor, which is installed in the cabin of your iron friend.
How to install heating?
How to set the warm-up on the Tomahawk
is very simple, you just need to activate it using the key fob pager. To activate the engine warm-up function, you need to simultaneously press and hold two special buttons on the remote control key fob. These two buttons have icons - trunk and key.
When these two keys are pressed simultaneously, the car’s parking lights will turn on, which will go out at the same moment, and the siren will emit one “CHIRP”. This will confirm that the function is activated.
At the same moment, your pager (key fob) will begin to display an icon in the form of a snowflake and the temperature, which is pre-programmed to turn on the heating. It’s simple - when the temperature in the car’s cabin reaches the one you set to automatically turn on the heating, the car’s engine will be started for the previously set time.
If you wish to disable this feature
, then you need to press the same combination of buttons that you pressed in order to activate it, that is, the buttons indicating the key and the trunk.
In this case, the parking lights will blink twice, and the system will make two “CHIRPS”, thereby confirming that this function is disabled. At the same time, the star-shaped icon will disappear on the key fob display and a melody will sound. It is worth noting that automatic heating of the motor, when the selected temperature is reached, will be performed no more than 6 times in 2 hours, and the temperature is set in the range of minus 5-30°C.
Setting a specific temperature
Now it’s worth talking about how to set a certain temperature level necessary to automatically start a car engine. In order to set the engine to operate automatically at a temperature of -5°C, you should press and hold the button on which the icon in the form of a lock will appear and the system will emit 1 CHIRP. If you want to set the temperature to start the engine -10°C, you should hold down the key button, and the system will issue 2 “CHIRPS”.
To set the start at -20°C
, you need to hold the button with the trunk icon and the system will emit 3 “CHIRPS”, and to start at -30°C you should hold the mute button until the system emits 4 “CHIRPS”.
Setting the start timer
Now you need to figure out how to set a specific time at which the car will work. To do this, you need to hold down several buttons at the same time:
- timer for 10 minutes – hold the mute button and press “F”;
- timer for 20 minutes - hold the mute button and press “F” twice;
- work for 30 minutes - hold down the button with the sound deactivated and press “F” three times;
- work for 1 hour – hold down the sound deactivation button and press “F” four times;
- similarly, to set the timer for 1.5 and 2 hours - hold the mute button and press “F” 5 and 6 times, respectively.
As a rule, when installing an alarm system in the cabin, professionals will do everything for you and you should not worry about the fact that you will need to install any functions yourself.
If you don’t understand how to set the heating on the Tomahawk, then ask a specialist at the salon about it. Usually, when installing a “reliable guard” for your iron horse, you are given special instructions that contain commands for connecting a particular function. To prevent their “iron horse” from being stolen, most motorists have long been using numerous alarm systems for this purpose.
The Tomahawk TZ-9010 car alarm is a highly effective anti-theft tool with high reliability, average service life and an affordable price.
Tomahawk car alarm: how to register a new key fob
There are very frequent cases when the alarm key fob becomes faulty. This mainly happens due to a leaky display. In such cases, you can buy a new key fob and program it. According to the instructions for the alarm, there is the following procedure:
- Turn on the ignition. According to the instructions, the engine should not be running.
- You must press the “Override” button and hold it.
- There should be 4 “CHIRPS” of the siren. They confirm that programming mode has been entered.
- After this, the override button should be released.
- The next step is to press the “open trunk” button and “turn on silent security.” They must be held until you hear the siren “CHIRP”. They mean confirmation that the new key fob has been memorized.
- If within 6 seconds a signal from a new key fob enters the system, it automatically exits the programming mode.
This is in theory, but in practice, motorists complain that it is simply impossible to program the key fob using this algorithm. Instead of 4 “CHIRPS”, the alarm always produces 5. During the exchange of experience, car owners have already concluded that the key fob should be programmed according to the following points:
- Turn on the ignition, but the engine should not be started.
- At the same time, press the “open trunk” and “silent security” buttons with one hand, and the “Override” button with the other.
- Count out 5 “CHIRPS” of the siren.
- Release ALL 3 buttons.
- Turn on the “silent security” and “trunk open” buttons again. At this time, the turn signals should blink several times.
After this you need to follow the instructions. There are a few more nuances that car enthusiasts have noticed. It is necessary to turn on the override button as soon as possible after turning on the ignition. Some believe that the secret to successful programming is pressing the Override button and turning the key at the same time.
A relatively inexpensive car alarm with the most necessary set of functions and additional options. The two-way system includes a convenient key fob with display. The icons on it are understandable at the level of intuition, and the instructions for use describe in detail each functionality of the gadget and the diagram for installation.
How to start and turn off a car using a key fob (main and additional)
Basic actions available using the Tomahawk TZ-9010 car alarm:
- remote starting of the car engine by programming the switching functions for a certain time. This is especially important in the winter, when it is necessary to warm up the car in advance before traveling;
- start of self-diagnosis of systems;
- calling the owner of the car if the system sensors are triggered.
To remotely start the car engine from the Tomahawk TZ-9010 key fob, you need to press button 2 (see figure).
Numbering and location of buttons on the Tomahawk TZ-9010 key fob
The success of this action is confirmed by:
- the vehicle's side headlights should blink three times;
- The siren should “respond” three times with a sound alert;
- The key fob display will show the corresponding identification about starting/not starting the engine.
After the car engine starts, it can work for the time interval programmed by the system, then automatically turn off.
The engine operating time can be extended by five minutes by simultaneously pressing keys “1” and “2”.
To start a car engine remotely, the following conditions must be met:
- ignition switched off;
- hood closed;
- Gearbox in neutral position;
- The car is on the handbrake.
If these conditions are not met, the machine will “respond” to an attempt to start the engine with a four-time sound alert.
To turn off the car from the key fob (turn off the engine from the key fob) using the Tomahawk TZ-9010, you need to press button “2”, and the car will respond with a double sound signal and blink its headlights twice.
Starting/stopping the vehicle engine from an additional key fob is carried out in the same way as from the main one.
How to setup
Before you start using the Tomahawk alarm, you need to set the operating parameters. Alarm settings are made using the Override button; to activate the setting mode, you need to press the button 5-6 times (depending on the type of adjustment). Then the owner selects the required function value, based on the tables available in the documentation. The parameter is assigned using buttons, the choice is confirmed by the corresponding number of beeps and a siren.
To reset the parameters, you need to activate the procedure by pressing the Override button 9 or 10 times (depending on the table number), and then turn on the ignition. The complex will sound 9 or 10 beeps, respectively; after briefly pressing the button on the remote control, marked with a padlock with a locked shackle, the settings are deleted. The driver then programs the parameters again.
Performing soft neutral
Neutral setting algorithm:
- After stopping the machine, tighten the parking brake lever. The box is first moved to the neutral position, the power unit is not turned off.
- Hold the button marked as an open lock until the buzzer or green control diode (on the auxiliary remote control) turns on.
- Press the button again (the interval between impacts does not exceed 3 seconds). If the procedure is carried out correctly, a melodic signal will turn on (on the remote control with a display).
- Remove the key from the lock. On cars with a button to start and stop the engine, the step is not used.
- Unlock the door, get out of the car, and then slam the door. The security system will automatically stop the engine and lock the locks.
Tomahawk 9.7 car alarms allow programming of an automatic algorithm. After activating the handbrake, you need to remove the key and then leave the car. After pressing the remote control button, the protection is turned on and the power unit is stopped at the same time.
Autorun operating principle
The Tomahawk alarm system supports automatic engine start without using a key. The complex's central processor turns on the starter based on a timer signal or data received from a temperature sensor. The complex disables the protection of the power unit circuits, and the shock sensor is temporarily deactivated. The starter rotates the motor shaft; after the engine starts running, the starter is automatically turned off (based on signals from the generator or speed sensor). After warming up within a specified time, the engine stops and is armed.
Trigger by temperature
The start is carried out according to signals from sensors installed in the cabin (inside the antenna unit) or in the engine compartment. The factory sets the default start from the cabin sensor (for example, in 9.7 complexes). To activate the sensor in the engine compartment, you will need to modify the wiring harnesses and program the central unit. The adjustment algorithm and wiring diagram are given in the manual.
- Press the button on the alarm remote control, marked with a locked padlock symbol. The key is held until the buzzer sounds or the control diode blinks. Then you need to briefly press the key with the lock icon with the shackle open.
- After sound and light signals are given, the icon with the text “1-2 Temp Start” will turn on on the remote control, and the threshold temperature value will also be displayed (programmed when setting up the unit).
- When the engine starts, the key fob emits a 5-fold signal, and an icon in the form of an exhaust cloud is displayed on the display, indicating that the engine is running. The number of restarts is not limited, the warm-up time between starts is at least 2 hours (the parameter is not forcibly regulated). The car owner adjusts the warm-up time.
Trigger by time
The car owner can turn on the hourly engine start by successively pressing buttons with the symbols of an open and locked lock. The text message 2-1 Daily will appear on the screen and the power unit will start. After warming up (the time is programmed when setting up the central unit), the engine will stop. Further starts are performed after 1, 2, 4 or 24 hours (the parameter can be configured separately).
Autostart based on temperature and time from the key fob
The manufacturer of the TZ-9010 tomahawk has provided a special sensor in the system (engine temperature sensor), mounted under the hood of the vehicle, which is used to ensure autostart based on temperature. Which buttons to press: this function is activated by simultaneously pressing buttons “2” and “3” of the key fob.
When the function is activated, a sound signal will sound and the headlights will flash once, while the corresponding indication will appear on the display and the automatic activation temperature will be shown. This mode is deactivated (autorun is disabled) by pressing the same buttons again. The car's reaction will be identical to that when the automation is turned on.
The Tomahawk TZ-9010 system also provides for starting the vehicle’s engine on a schedule. To do this, you need to simultaneously press buttons “2” and “4” on the key fob. If you have completed this action successfully, the car should sound a beep and flash its headlights once. At the same time, the corresponding clock icon will be displayed on the key fob and the melody will play.
After activating this function, the vehicle will start at the same time every day.
Disabling scheduled engine starting is done by pressing the same buttons again.
Additionally, there is a function for monitoring the temperature in the car interior and the security status. The request is made by pressing button “3”. To open the trunk, you need to hold down button “3” for a long time.
Tomahawk alarm instructions: basic settings of the timer, alarm clock or clock
For the setup mode, use a button on the main key fob with the designation “F in a circle” and buttons with the designation “silhouette of a car with an open trunk lid” and “speaker crossed out with two lines.”
Basic modes for setting the clock, alarm clock and timer (number of presses on the button marked “F in a circle”):
- Setting the minutes on the clock (number of presses – 1);
- Setting the clock on the alarm clock (number of presses – 2);
- Setting the minutes on the alarm clock (number of presses – 3);
- Turning on (off) the alarm clock (number of presses – 4);
- Setting the clock on the timer (number of presses – 5);
- Setting minutes on the timer (number of presses – 6);
- Turning on (off) the timer (number of presses – 7).
Tomahawk's instructions for setting the clock and alarm suggest the following steps. I start setting the time after setting the clock settings mode (after holding down the button marked “F in a circle”, a field with an electronic clock appears on the liquid crystal display of the key fob).
To set the clock value, use the buttons marked “silhouette of a car with an open trunk lid” (increasing time) and “speaker crossed out with two lines” (decreasing time).
Note: To set the minutes, briefly press the button marked “F in a circle” (the cursor moves from the hour field to the minute field). Increasing and decreasing minutes occurs using the same buttons as when setting the clock.
Also in relation to the Tomahawk alarm, the instructions for setting the alarm are similar to setting the clock. The alarm clock is set after setting the hours and minutes by double pressing the button marked “F in a circle”.

After setting the required hours and minutes for the alarm clock (to quickly start, use the simultaneous pressing of the buttons marked “silhouette of a car with an open trunk lid” and “F in a circle”), by pressing the button marked “F in a circle” four times, exit to the submenu activating the alarm.
To turn the alarm on or off, use the buttons marked “silhouette of a car with an open trunk lid” (on) and those marked “speaker crossed out with two lines” (off).
In relation to the Tomahawk complex, the instructions for setting the timer are as follows: after setting the alarm clock, press the button marked “F in a circle” five times, setting the hour value. Accordingly, you need to press the same button six times, setting the required minute value. After setting the time for the timer, activate (deactivate) it by pressing the button marked “F in a circle” seven times.
Why autorun may not work
Among the most common Tomahawk TZ-9010 alarm malfunctions are the following:
- “dead” battery in the key fob (dead battery). Should be replaced;
- the effect of electromagnetic interference on a car (occurs near high-voltage power lines or power plants);
- The control panel setting has gone wrong. In this case, it should be rebooted, perhaps even reprogrammed.
If autostart does not work, you need to double-check the connection of all sensors to the vehicle systems.
Possible problems and their solutions
Frequency modulation is used to encode control signals for the Tomahawk 9010 complex. The transmission of signals is affected by electromagnetic interference from transformer stations or relay installations. If it is impossible to control the remote control, an emergency shutdown or arming is performed. The instructions for use recommend re-entering the remote control codes into the complex’s memory.
When the battery is low, a warning icon appears on the screen. After removing the old battery and installing a new source, it is recommended to briefly press the key marked with the silhouette of a car. The procedure allows you to discharge and charge the capacitors of the signal transmitter.
If “floating” defects appear, it is recommended to inspect the blocks and connecting cables. If insulation breaks are detected, it is necessary to replace sections of the wiring or protect the metal conductors with insulating tape. If damaged electronic elements are found, it is necessary to replace parts or install a new unit. Since production of equipment has been discontinued, purchasing new components is difficult. In this case, it is necessary to install a new security system on the car.
This is my second experience installing an alarm in a car, you can read about the first here Self-installation of a Leopard LS50/10 PLUS alarm
When I bought the car, it already had a simple (open-close) non-working alarm system, which significantly simplified the installation process (there was no need to install drives, and almost all the main connection points were already installed in the place I needed). It’s strange that alarm installers also charge an additional fee for dismantling the old security system! =)
First of all, we decide on the installation locations of the security system elements:
— The electronic alarm control unit is installed inside the vehicle. — To obtain maximum range, the transmitting and receiving “RF” antenna of the system unit must be positioned as high as possible, not in contact with metal objects or electrical wiring harnesses. — The siren is installed in the engine compartment, in an inaccessible place. If you are using a stand-alone siren, provide access to the service key hole. The siren should be installed with the horn facing down, this will prevent moisture from entering. It is better to plan the wire connections inside the cabin for less oxidation. — All high-current circuits (power supply, side lights, central locking, etc.) must be protected by fuses of the appropriate rating. — The hood and trunk triggers cut into places protected from moisture that are inaccessible when the hood and trunk are closed. Triggers need to be lubricated periodically to prevent seizing and corrosion. — The shock sensor is installed in the cabin, the center of the car can be considered ideal, it is attached to the metal of the body with self-tapping screws or glued (but in experience, the sensor works better on plastic, which will be discussed below). — Contacts in places where ignition, starter, etc. circuits are broken. It is recommended to solder.
