Car mats (car mats) – selection and purchase

Variety of carpets

Car mats come in two types: pile and rubber. As a rule, pile mats are popular with motorists who are not used to denying themselves the pleasure of being in a cozy environment. These carpets are distinguished by their impeccable quality and premium appearance. Also, many car enthusiasts prefer pile carpets in the dry season.

Rubber mats are no less popular among car enthusiasts, and there are also a number of reasons for this: carpets are wear-resistant, durable and easy to use.

Fastening mats

As a rule, car mats are attached either in any way - they are laid down and lie there, due to the exact dimensions, there is a minimal chance that they will “go away” somewhere when moving, or with the help of clips or small hooks around the perimeter. For textile mats, actual “Velcro” is used, with the help of which they are attached to the base pile of the interior. It is important that when purchasing a new kit, evaluate whether the places for fastenings on them match the fastenings in the car, since private companies can sometimes make mistakes in production, which will create additional inconvenience for you.

What is important to consider when choosing rubber mats?

Marketable condition

It is important that the selected kit is made with high quality. All tenons and fasteners must be in place, and the surface must be free of flaws and defects.

Spikes and fasteners ensure comfortable use of carpets, because due to them, the carpet is fixed in the correct position and does not slide under the pedals. Before purchasing carpets, it is recommended to check the condition of the set and the presence of all elements, because high-quality carpets will serve you for many years.

Differences between rubber mats

Rubber mats are also, in turn, divided into two types - mats with a “Grid” pattern and mats with a high side:

  • Mats with a “Mesh” pattern have a clear advantage - a cellular structure that evenly distributes liquid and dirt along the bottom of the mat.
  • Rugs with a high side have sides increased to 35 mm. These carpets are great for the autumn-winter season. Rugs can hold even large volumes of water and dirt.

Types of car mats

Depending on the destination, there are mats for the interior and trunk:

  • Carpets for front passengers - the driver's mat has a special look, with a separate cutout for the left foot;
  • Carpets for rear passengers - sometimes one-piece, sometimes consisting of 2 of 3 parts;
  • The trunk mat is truly one-piece.

pros

  • Easy to clean
  • Frost-resistant
  • Absorbs moisture well

Minuses

  • Dimensions
  • Poor collection of dirt

This is my first time encountering textile rugs. I’ve already gotten used to polyurethane ones after 10 years. I was lured by the atmosphere of comfort and softness when there were such carpets in the salon. I decided to install pile mats in the car interior. During my search I came across Novline, but the rest was either frivolous or overpriced. The rear bottoms did not fit perfectly, but the front ones fit well into the contours of the floor. I've been using it for a week and am satisfied. Let's see how they perform in winter.

pros

  • Create sound insulation
  • Absorbs water well

Minuses

  • Get very dirty
  • A little hard to clean

I bought these mats along with polyurethane ones at a good discount. Externally very beautiful, different edgings and emblems catch the eye. Not bad when used, but they get very dirty. I clean it myself with a foam interior cleaner, then dry it. Gives the car additional sound insulation. I didn’t install them in winter, so I can’t say anything about thermal insulation.

When they are clean, friends, getting into the car, joke: “At least take off your shoes.” The polyethylene base of the carpets is cracking - not very high quality. I'll probably put it away for the winter. And so they are good, they give solidity to the interior.

“Tuning” rugs

No matter how strange it may be, now drivers want to stand out from the general stream of car enthusiasts not only with the appearance of the body or powerful engine, but even with the type of interior mats. Thus, when purchasing, many manufacturers offer drivers additional “chips” to add individuality to this element of the cabin, for example:

  • colored seam along the contour of plain rugs;
  • additional fastenings;
  • embroidered name or logo;
  • a metal label or heel pad (note that this element can really be useful, since it is the place under the heel of the driver’s right foot that wears out the most and quickly).

Individual type of car mat

What type of car mat is best?

First of all, they are all divided into two large varieties: universal and for a specific car model. Universal mats are made according to standard designs and are often not suitable for one or another car due to their small size. The best car mats are products made specifically for a specific car model. offers its customers high-quality products that are created for a specific car according to factory patterns. Such products fit perfectly in size and reliably protect the interior from dirt and moisture.

Car mats (spark car mats) are not only an additional accessory, but also a reliable means of protecting your car.

Car mats (spark car carpets) are an excellent way not only to improve the appearance of the interior, but also to protect the interior of the car from moisture, dust and dirt. When car owners are faced with the task of buying floor mats for their car, many wonder: which car floor mats are best to choose? Rubber or polyurethane?

Each type of car mats has both its advantages and disadvantages, which should definitely be taken into account when purchasing.

Rubber car mats

Original rubber mats are products made from high-quality material with low (about 1 cm) sides. They are more expensive than universal ones. These mats are made for a specific car model, including fasteners.

In order to improve the appearance of rubber mats, their sides are made low and do not protect the interior well from water leakage. In such mats, accumulated water often spills over the sides when turning or at a car wash. Dirt from the surface of rubber car mats can stain pants and boots.

Disadvantages of such rugs:

  • Heavy mass;
  • Instability to frost;
  • They spoil the aesthetic appearance of the salon;
  • Possibility of contamination of clothing.

The advantages of rubber mats include their low cost, the rubber does not get wet, and the fact that they are easy to clean. Many car owners prefer this type of mats.

Polyurethane car mats Novline, Unidec, Rival, Norplast

Polyurethane car mats are made from modern environmentally friendly polymer material. Polyurethane car mats are very light, they have incredibly high wear resistance, are easy to clean and look great. Most car mats made of polyurethane have a studded coating on the bottom side, making them non-slip. Despite the artificial origin of the material, these products do not have a specific odor and do not freeze at low temperatures.

The advantages of polyurethane mats include:

  • Graceful shape that follows the configuration of the floor of your car;
  • High sides that effectively protect the interior from dirt and moisture;
  • The presence of a special tongue that completely covers the foot rest area;
  • The rear mats are securely connected by a jumper;
  • They are lighter than rubber mats;
  • Do not harden in the cold (-40 C);
  • They have increased abrasion resistance;
  • They do not dry out, warp or soften under the influence of sunlight and cold.

The disadvantage of polyurethane mats is their high cost.

Before buying a car mat, pay attention to all the advantages and disadvantages of each type, and choose the type that will be suitable for you.

Regarding the height of the sides of car mats, it is important to say that in car mats with high sides, a large amount of water accumulates over time, which can be absorbed into pants and subsequently leave salt stains on clothes, including shoes.

Textile or pile car mats.

An obvious advantage is the fact that textile pile car mats have a high ability to absorb moisture. It is also worth noting their aesthetic appearance, inexpensive cost, and easy removal from the car interior.

Pile textile mats must certainly have a rubber base because it does not allow moisture to penetrate into the carpeting of the car interior. Otherwise, moisture in the interior can cause premature corrosion of the car body.

You can get rid of water in pile car mats using a regular brush, after first pulling it out of the car.

They successfully combine all the advantages of pile and rubber products. The top layer of the 3D carpet is made using needle-punched carpet, and the lower part uses anti-slip polyurethane. Between these main layers there are additional layers: reinforcing (reinforcing), soundproofing and waterproofing.

The height of the sides in some modifications can reach 6 cm. They are shaped like a trough, and this allows you to better replicate the shape and design of the car floor. The kit includes: 4 mats and the necessary jumpers.

An important advantage of 3D carpets is the ability to adjust the driver's heels.

Carpets in the trunk of a car.

Speaking about plastic car trunk mats, we can safely say that they are made of durable plastic for a specific car model and have a fairly high side. This car trunk mat reliably protects the trunk carpet from polluting factors.

A polyurethane carpet for the trunk of a car is a product made of polymer material and located in the niche of the luggage compartment to ensure cleanliness and comfortable operating conditions of the car. Unlike a plastic trunk mat, things that are directly placed in the luggage compartment do not slide on it. It doesn't get cold from cold weather.
