How to extend the life of a generator

How to check the relay on a VAZ 2110?

To analyze the condition of the regulator, you need to purchase a voltmeter, which has a measuring scale in the range of 15–30 volts. The check is performed as follows:

  • start the car engine at medium speed and let it run for a quarter of an hour (the operation is carried out with the headlights on);
  • A voltmeter is used to determine the voltage between the “ground” of the generating device and the “plus” on the battery.

If the measurement shows a voltage value from 13.5 to 14.2 volts, replacing the regulator is not necessary. But in situations where the voltage has a different value, indicating a constant overcharging or undercharging of the battery, the relay needs to be replaced.

You can also remove the voltage regulator and check it together with the generator brush holder. To do this, a 12-volt light bulb with a power of 1–3 watts is placed between the brushes, a power source is connected to the “ground” and the positive terminal of the battery, from which a voltage of 12 volts is first supplied, and then 16 volts.

If the light comes on at 12 volts and goes out at 16, replacing the regulator on a VAZ 2110 is not necessary. If the lamp does not light up, this indicates that there is no required power contact between the relay terminals and the brushes, or that a break has occurred. By training the key, we generate a new password, which is written in the memory of the immobilizer and the engine ECU. The password is stored in the energy-protected circuit of the electronic engine control unit, in the immobilizer unit and in the key. In this case, the training key with a red mark cannot be used for any other pair of immo-ECUs. When the immobilizer is transferred to the trained state, the password is written to both working keys.   1. Turn on the ignition. In this case, the signal LED should light up with a constant light no later than after 5 seconds.
  2. We bring the original training key to the immobilizer indicator, while using the other key we turn off the ignition. The device should emit a short beep and the LED indicator should remain lit.
  3. We remove the training key from the LED indicator 5 seconds after turning off the ignition. In this case, the indicator should go into continuous flashing mode with a frequency of 10 times/second.
  4. Over the next 20 seconds, we bring the learning working key to the LED indicator. We hold it in the area of ​​the indicator until the buzzer emits a sound signal lasting about a second and the LED indicator stops blinking, signaling the end of the learning process.
  5. We train the second working key in the same way.
  6. After training two working keys, the LED indicator will continue to flash ten times per second until we bring the training key with a red mark to it.
  7. After this, the LED lights up with a constant light and stays on for ten seconds. During this time you need to have time to turn on the ignition. The buzzer will emit a confirmation signal and the LED will go off.
  8. We wait about 6-7 seconds and check the system. To do this, turn on the ignition, the LED indicator will flash twice per second, try to start the engine - it should not start. Otherwise, we carry out the key learning procedure first, turning off the ignition for at least 15-20 seconds.
  9. Turn off the ignition and hold one of the working keys to the LED indicator. The buzzer gives two enabling signals, after which the engine should start.
  10. Turn off the ignition, get out of the car by opening and closing the driver's doors. After 15-20 seconds, the buzzer emits a sound signal with a constant increase in volume, which indicates the successful completion of the training procedure. The immobilizer has switched to vehicle security mode, the LED indicator continues to flash every 2.5-3 seconds.

The trained key is lost. What to do

If the trained key is lost, it is necessary to re-train the remaining key. This is necessary to prevent an attacker from using the found trained key. The procedure for learning the remaining key (or a purchased new one) is carried out according to the same scheme, with the only difference being that the LED indicator at the beginning of the learning process does not light up constantly, but blinks at a frequency of 2 times per second.
