The first Chevrolet cars, whose country of manufacture previously could only be the USA, appeared in 1911. Nowadays, the company produces vehicles in almost all categories - from compact city cars and crossovers to massive SUVs and sports cars.
Due to its popularity, this brand of machine is sold all over the world, and to simplify supplies and reduce prices, production facilities are located in different countries. Although the quality of assembly of Chevrolet cars is practically not affected by whose company assembles them and in what region the assembly line is located.
Main production facilities
The largest Chevrolet car assembly plants are located in the United States - in the state of Michigan. One of the plants is located in Tennessee, and other North American branches include assembly lines in Canada and Mexico. In South America, Chevrolet is assembled at factories in Colombia, Brazil, Argentina and Ecuador.
Cars of a popular brand are produced at the following factories:
- in South Korea, where they assemble mainly those Chevrolets that used to be part of the Daewoo model range, and several economy-class cars like Cruz;
- in Thailand, Vietnam and India - local branches specialize only in Chevrolet models, unlike other General Motors plants;
- in Japan - although it is difficult to name this country on the list of those who produce Chevrolet - the model range includes only Chevrolet LUV pickups.
After GM took over the Korean manufacturer Daewoo, the Chevrolet Lanos also appeared in the list of products of the American brand, which was produced in Ukraine for several years in a row. Lanos cars were assembled at the Zaporozhye plant AvtoZAZ, whose production was reoriented to imported models in the 1990s. Since 2009, the branch in Ukraine stopped cooperating with GM, and now a car similar in parameters and design to Lanos is called ZAZ Chance.
Several years ago, it was possible to answer the question of which country is the manufacturer of the Chevrolet model by mentioning Russian factories in Nizhny Novgorod, Togliatti, Kaliningrad and St. Petersburg. However, in 2009, the company left the Russian market, and, having returned, stopped production again in 2015.
The reasons were a decrease in demand for the brand’s products and the global crisis in the automotive industry. At the same time, the assembly of Chevrolet cars continues at the enterprise in Kazakhstan - the branch’s assortment includes Aveo, Lacetti, Captiva and Cruze models.
Assembly of Chevrolet Cruze in Russia
Production of this car in the country began in 2009. Chris Gabby himself, who is the managing director of General Motors CIS, made a speech during the opening ceremony of the plant. In it, he mentioned that he felt true pride in Russia. And he is also sincerely glad that this country became one of the first to begin mass production of the Chevrolet model line of cars on its territory. Chris Gabby expressed his confidence that this brand will be able to maintain its leading position in the Russian market from the moment the branch opens.
The cars are equipped with 1.6 and 1.8 liter petrol engines and six-speed automatic transmissions. The bodies of Russian models are painted only black, but production is progressing.
Features of American models
Build quality does not always depend on the country in which Chevrolet cars are manufactured. But many car enthusiasts note certain advantages of American production. The level of assembly and reliability of a car assembled in the States is noticeably higher - however, you will have to pay more to buy them.
It is not easy for car enthusiasts from any country other than the USA to obtain products of this type. It will not be possible to purchase them in Europe or Russia. And buying under the “gray scheme” can lead to problems during warranty and service repairs.

Advantages and disadvantages of a used Chevrolet Lacetti
In the cabin you will find two niches for small items on the center console, an armrest, the model also has a stove and an air conditioner, in principle there is nothing else in it.
The car's spaciousness is acceptable, that is, the space is normal, but if there were more it would be better. The trunk in this regard is normal and you can load quite a few things into it.
Inside the Chevrolet Lacetti there is a 4-spoke steering wheel, behind which there is a conventional dashboard with analogue instruments and an on-board computer. In more expensive versions, the steering wheel may be equipped with cruise control buttons. There is a clock on top of the center console, and below there is a radio and selectors for controlling the heater and air conditioner. Some versions have a display that shows the selected settings.
A so-so car, but if you need inexpensive and relatively normal transport for the city, then this model is a suitable option for this if you have a small budget, but you should also take a look at the competitors, as perhaps you will like them better and satisfy your needs in the car.
Build quality
Russian car owners have no complaints about the interior and chassis equipment of the car. But the owners are completely unhappy with the body itself. Some consumers are dissatisfied with the Chevrolet Aveo's paintwork and thin metal, which will not survive corrosion and is unlikely to protect the car from serious damage and dents.
The American-assembled model passed the Euro NCAP test for safety and reliability “excellently”, receiving the highest score - five. Therefore, before buying this car, find out where the Chevrolet Aveo is produced and where it was brought from.
"Camaro" - a small "predator" of big roads
In response to questions from the press about what “Camaro” means, marketers jokingly described it as “a small animal that hunts mustangs.” It appeared on the conveyor belt in 1966, existed until 2002, and was a success. In 2009, the history of the Chevrolet Camaro turned into a new round of production and popularity. In the post-war years, the demographic situation changed, over 70 million people were born. The generation grew up and demanded new cars, not like their parents. The automobile industry has been actively trying to resolve this issue. Voila, a sporty silhouette with an elongated hood with a small compartment for things, impressive and fashionable “draws” the era. The black finish on the radiator created a striking impression. Young people preferred to buy a 3.8-liter manual model without shelling out large bills from their wallets. The coupe and convertible were assembled in America, Venezuela, Switzerland and a number of other countries. There are six generations of this “bestseller” in total.
Chevrolet Cruze - an independent march on the world stage
GM's full-fledged own version does not apply to restyling, modification format, etc. In 2008, it was decided to release a new model, and the history of the Chevrolet Cruze began. Talented inventors of extraordinary automobile projects put their minds and hands into creating cars. It is distinguished by its original style and optimal dimensions. It was conceived as an alternative to the Cobalt and Lacetti.
In the early 2000s, the fruitful collaboration between Suzuki and GM stimulated the development of the Chevrolet Cruz YGM1 concept. This is a small brother, unlike modern variations, in the format of a five-door hatchback. Under the supervision of the vice-president of the design department, Taewan Kim, the vehicle acquired modified features: a raised windshield, the roofline acquired a curved format, giving a sporty and at the same time elegant note. The luggage compartment is convenient to use: it holds a lot of things. They drive sedans, hatchbacks and station wagons, they look impressive, and by their “thoroughbred” characteristics they are easy to recognize in the automobile “crowd”. Interior harmony is echoed by the interior decoration, good finishing, and high-quality materials. Driving the car is easier thanks to the multi-steering system.
