Homemade secret wheel nuts. How to remove the secret from a wheel without a key: basic methods. Wheel locks - protecting wheels from theft, how to install and how to remove

In the world, the era of wheel theft began in the 70s of the last century. In Russia, the boom of such crimes occurred in the 90s and continues to this day. For an attacker, this method of earning money is ideal, because removing the wheels takes no more than 3-5 minutes. If the car is parked in a place remote from the owner, then the person will not have time to react and run to the car. Smart people found a way out and began producing wheel locks - special bolts that cannot be unscrewed with a regular wheel wrench.

There are two ways to protect the wheels on your car - install a high-quality alarm system that can respond to changes in the angle of the body, or screw in special locks. As we mentioned, these devices are bolts (sometimes nuts), which are distinguished by a special head shape. To unscrew such a product, you will need a special key.

An interesting fact is that secrets can be a “headache” not only for criminals, but also for car owners. History knows many cases when an inexperienced or inattentive driver lost a special key or forgot it in the garage. In such cases, serious problems arise with wheel removal.

what kind of wheel locks should there be?

Varieties

Today there are several types of wheel bolts on sale:

  1. shaped head bolts. Such a product is easy to recognize by the complex shape of the head, which is a group of curved lines. The complexity of products may vary, which directly affects the reliability of wheel protection. There is a regularity here: the more complex the secret, the higher its price;
  2. bolts with an asymmetrical polygon shape. Such secrets can be internal or captive. The total number of splines varies - from eight or more. The most popular security bolts are with 30-40 slots;
  3. secrets with a perforated profile. The peculiarity of such structures is the presence of many holes with the same or different diameters. Here, just as in the first case, the price of the device depends on the complexity of execution.

Curved and perforated profiles can be combined into a combined one, characterized by a high degree of reliability.

How to remove the secret from a wheel without a key? — Auto-Self.ru

Installing security bolts is a fairly effective way to protect car wheels from intruders. To unscrew such a bolt, you need a unique key that only the owner of the car owns. But if the original tool is lost or forgotten at home, even the owner has a problem with how to remove the wheel lock without a key. To resolve this issue, it is not necessary to contact a car service center, where you will have to pay a fairly decent amount for the service. There are several ways to unscrew secret bolts yourself.

What is a secret lock, and why is it installed on wheels?

The theft of car wheels is a real business that is thriving in modern conditions. Car owners have to resist such “merchants”. That is why so-called “secrets” appeared on the auto accessories market.

Without a special key, an attacker will not be able to remove the wheel.

This is a set of nuts or bolts that can be removed from the wheel only with a special wrench included in the kit. A bolt with a head of an unusual configuration is installed on the wheel instead of one or more standard ones. After installing it, it is impossible to unscrew the wheel without the original key.

Varieties

The difference between locks and regular wheel bolts is the non-standard head profile. Depending on its shape, all secretions are divided into four main types:

  1. Simple models with a profile in the shape of an irregular polygon with a number of faces from 4 to 40.
  2. Models with a figured profile consisting of applied lines of various shapes.
  3. Perforated - have several holes of different depths and diameters. This type of secret is considered more reliable compared to previous options in terms of selecting a key for it.
  4. Combined models. Bolts with maximum reliability combine hole and shaped profiles.

Methods for removing secretions

Unscrewing the security bolt with a special puller is a matter of minutes: the shape of the profile and the key fit each other perfectly. But if the key from the purchased set is lost, the problem with removing the wheels arises for the car owner.

You can try to find a key for bolts purchased at a regular auto store. Inexpensive Chinese kits have only a few combinations, so after going through several kits, you can find a suitable key for the locks on wheels. Experts do not recommend using Chinese bolts to protect wheels, because an attacker can purchase several sets and choose the appropriate key.

There are several methods for removing the lock without a key, but most of them lead to breakage of the bolt itself

This trick will not work with kits purchased in foreign stores. To remove complex models, use one of the following methods.

Removal using a strap

The essence of the method is to loosen the lock by tightening and loosening the remaining bolts. Sequencing:

  1. All nuts on the wheel are tightened as tightly as possible to remove the load from the lock.
  2. The car is raised with a jack so that the wheel with the lock does not touch the ground.
  3. The secret is tapped on all sides to loosen the bolt.
  4. The car is lowered so that the wheel is on the ground.
  5. All the bolts are unscrewed from the wheel so that it is held only on the wheel lock.
  6. Raise the car again with a jack.
  7. The wheel is loosened by hand until it begins to vibrate on the hub.
  8. Tighten all the bolts to remove the load from the lock and loosen it even more.
  9. After these manipulations, the secret is unscrewed by hand. If the bolt has not been unscrewed for a long time, and it has become “stuck”, all manipulations will have to be repeated.

It is important! Before unscrewing the secret, you need to treat it with penetrating machine oil. The liquid WD-40, popular among car enthusiasts, is not suitable for these purposes. Penetrating oil will eat away the rust holding the bolt, and then it will come out without much effort.

Using a socket

To remove a bolt using this method you will need:

  • The socket head is slightly smaller in diameter than the socket head;
  • Torque wrench;
  • Hammer;
  • Standard bolt;
  • Screwdriver.

The sequence of actions is as follows:

  • A socket with a diameter half a millimeter smaller than the bolt is driven onto it with a hammer. This can be done because the secrets are usually made of soft metal. As a result, the soft seal takes the shape of the faces of the socket head.
  • Place a lever-knob (torque wrench) on the head and begin to unscrew the secret bolt. According to the laws of physics, the lever helps to exert greater force on the bolt. Here it is advisable not to overdo it and turn the key slowly with periodic stops. The main task is to move the lock from its place, then it will easily unscrew.
  • A regular bolt is installed in place of the lock.

The unscrewed secret remains in the socket head. Knock it out with a large screwdriver or chisel installed in a vice. You can remove the secret by slightly screwing it back into place. The degree of tightening should be such that you can then unscrew the bolt by hand. The socket head in this position is loosened and pulled off the socket.

It is important! If your car has expensive alloy wheels with locks installed by the manufacturers, you should not try to remove them yourself. It is difficult to remove such a secret, so it is better to contact a service station.

Using internal extractor

A conical extractor is a tool for removing broken studs and bolts. It can also be used to remove security bolts. The procedure for using this tool is as follows:

  • To insert the extractor, a hole of the appropriate shape and size is drilled in the secretion.
  • An extractor is driven into the hole, and the bolt is unscrewed with its help.
  • Grab the extractor with a wrench and rotate it clockwise. It is necessary to twist smoothly, without jerking, otherwise the thread will break, and without the help of specialists it will not be possible to remove the wheel.

To remove a broken stud or bolt, a tool called an extractor is used, which can also help in case of a lost lock.

The main problem with using this method is selecting the appropriate drill for the material. If the secret is made of raw metal, a high-speed steel drill will do. For hardened steel, drills with pobedit tips are used. To prevent the feather from breaking during drilling, the bolt head is generously lubricated.

Making a new key

This method is suitable if you have a highly qualified specialist in mind who can make a key from a cast. The work is quite complicated, but the method will allow you to use the lock in the future, and also completely eliminate the risk of damage to the disk, tire and wheel hub.

To make a duplicate, a plasticine cast is made of the head of the secretion. To prevent the plasticine from sticking to the bolt head, it must first be lubricated with machine oil. The resulting cast must be taken to the master, who will make a new key from it.

Exotic ways to extract secretions

The most unusual option for removing a bolt is freezing it with liquid nitrogen. Exposure to ultra-low temperatures will make the metal brittle, so the bolt is simply broken with a hammer and removed piece by piece.

When freezing with nitrogen from a can, you will have to be extremely precise and hit the head of the secretion exclusively. Nitrogen should not be sprayed onto other parts and the disk. After the head is destroyed, the threaded part of the bolt is easily unscrewed from the wheel.

How to unscrew the lock in auto repair shops

To dismantle the locks, service station technicians use the “old-fashioned” method of welding a bolt or hexagon of a suitable size onto it. To preserve the disk, a piece of pipe is often welded from the inside, and a nut, bolt or hexagon is welded to it.

In a service station, the seal is most often removed by welding

When using this method, it is important to choose the right electrode, otherwise the seam during welding will turn out brittle and will come off when unscrewing the bolt. Without experience, it is not recommended to use this method yourself. The disadvantage of this method is also the irretrievable loss of the key, although if the key is lost, there is no point in keeping the bolt.

It is important! Sometimes the secrets are made of a material to which nothing can be welded.

Common mistakes made by car owners

Using the advice of “traditional craftsmen”, some car owners are trying to solve the problem radically. Such methods lead to unpleasant consequences.

  • Cut off the bolt with a chisel. The secret will be removed in such a barbaric way, but the wheel rim will be damaged.
  • Roll with a gas wrench. Sometimes this method works on stamped discs. But most manufacturers of locks have learned to protect themselves from attempts to unscrew the bolts with a gas wrench. A special rotating ring is installed on the bolt to prevent it from being caught.

It is important! Inept actions when removing secrets may not solve, but only aggravate the problem. If the bolt is damaged but does not give way, do not break it. It is better to immediately contact specialists at a car service center.

It is easier to prevent any problem with a car than to subsequently look for ways to solve it. To avoid having to remove the secret from the wheel without a key, you should come up with a safe place to store it. It is advisable to purchase a special case that is attached to the wheel wrench. The necessary tool for unscrewing the lock will always be at hand.

Nuances of choosing wheel locks

When choosing a secret, be guided by the recommendations below:

  1. Bolts with conical heads are considered the most unsuccessful for tightening. They are characterized by a small hole diameter. That is why the special key constantly flies off after applying a certain force. Sometimes it comes to the point of absurdity: it’s easier to tighten a secret key with a universal key than with a special one.
  2. Also, you should not buy security bolts with corner protrusions and grooves stamped in the form of polyhedrons and asterisks. If desired, it is quite easy to select a spanner or socket wrench for them.
  3. By the way, it is not recommended to use key extensions and levers during the tightening process. This increases the risk of the seal breaking. Also, do not tighten it with a bolt gun. This impact tool can damage the disc and hub.
  4. Remember that when installing a wheel, the secret fastening element is screwed in last, and when dismantling it is unscrewed first. If you follow this rule, then attackers will not be able to relieve its pressure by tightening other bolts all the way.
  5. The security bolt must be equipped with a protective ring. The latter will spin even with a well-tightened nut. The purpose of the shell is to prevent the bolt from being grabbed from the outside using ordinary pliers or a gas wrench. This design feature is important for stamped discs. The secrets for alloy wheels are better protected, because they are recessed deep into the opening. As a result, it will not be possible to grab the special bolt using improvised tools, which will reliably protect the wheels from theft.
  6. The head of the secretory should be as low as possible. This design feature makes it possible to prevent the bolt from being grabbed by a prepared wrench or other tool;
  7. The metal of the product must be of high quality and durable. This requirement is easy to explain. The attacker, after an unsuccessful attempt to unscrew it, will try to knock down the secret by force. The higher quality the metal of the product, the lower the likelihood of being left without wheels. The ideal option is steel. Such metal cannot be drilled outdoors or manipulated with any other tool.
  8. Avoid secrets with numerous slits, notches and holes. On the one hand, this design feature complicates the process of unscrewing the bolt, and on the other hand, dust and dirt invariably get into the cracks. One day there may come a time when even the “native” key will not be able to unscrew the secret:
  9. Good locks for alloy wheels and regular “stampings” should have a complex pattern. Place the main emphasis on the shape of the pattern - it should be asymmetrical and nonlinear. It is important that the key for a special bolt has an individual design and there is no possibility of selection.

Exotic methods of unwinding

Drivers have to do many things with their own hands. And quite often the result is positive. So, some have already had to determine the causes of knocking hydraulic compensators and eliminate them, while others have faced the need to bleed the clutch without outside help. Did you manage to do it? Well then, you can also remove the wheel if it has a wheel lock.

I’ll say right away that the price of protection may surprise some. You can go shopping yourself and find out how much the secret costs. But you shouldn’t save on such things. There are many Chinese bolts of this type sold now, but most of them use the same edges. Therefore, finding a key for them will not be difficult.

Choose reliable and high-quality secrets with the maximum level of protection.

  • Padding. A rather energy-intensive but effective method that is actively used by car enthusiasts;
  • Socket head. This tool can help you in a difficult situation, so it is always worth having in your toolbox. And not only for removing secrets;
  • Internal extractor. An interesting and quite effective method, which has its own nuances;
  • New key. If you are not in a hurry, then in principle you can order a new key. The method will not work if the wheel needs to be removed immediately.

Let me tell you about each of the presented methods in more detail.

Padding

In such work as re-upholstering the steering wheel or repairing the bumper, extreme care is required. I’m already silent about windshield repair, where every movement is of great importance in terms of the quality of the final result.

The first option is not exotic, but rather troublesome. You come to a car parts market or a store that sells similar accessories and try to pick up a key from those available for sale. The inconvenience is this: you have to run to the car and try on different samples.

If there are protrusions inside the profile hole that a hexagonal or tetrahedral rod can catch on, remove the locks from the wheels as follows:

  1. Adjust the car to the wall of the permanent garage with the desired side.
  2. Insert a hexagon (or tetrahedron) into the head of the bolt and press it from the end with a jack, resting the sole against the wall. Don't forget to put a piece of wood between them.
  3. Try to break the secret by rotating the rod with an open-end wrench.

Completely exotic is freezing the metal head with liquid nitrogen, sold in small cans. As you know, when exposed to ultra-low temperatures, steel becomes brittle. Using this property, treat the bolt with liquid nitrogen and break the head with a hammer. This requires some dexterity, since you only need to defrost the head of the lock without affecting other parts. The threaded part remaining in the hub can be easily unscrewed after removing the wheel.

How to choose a good security bolt?

  1. It must have a movable protective ring - a shell. It can rotate when the thread is tightened. The shell prevents you from grabbing the bolt from the outside with a gas wrench or pliers. It is especially relevant for “stampings”. Alloy wheels have the ability to recess the seal into the disk, so the shell will not play a significant role here.
  2. Its head should be low enough.
  3. It must be made of durable and high-quality metal.
  4. It is better to avoid products with various holes, grooves and slits. They get clogged with dirt and dust very quickly, which further complicates the dismantling process.

Useful tips

In the process of removing the sockets, you may encounter the fact that the socket itself is difficult to remove from the socket head. So, the secret can be knocked out with a screwdriver, chisel, etc. However, it is often easier and faster to screw the lock together with the socket head into the threaded connection of the wheel; however, you should not tighten the lock too much.

It must be tightened so that you can re-unscrew the secret by hand. After tightening the lock, you can try to pull out the socket head. In the process, try not to damage the thread on which the secret is given.

We also recommend reading the article about what balancing car rims/wheels is. From this article you will learn about why it is necessary to balance wheels, when balancing is needed, and also how to balance car wheels.

Finally, we note that wheel locks, although they can partially protect the car, are not an effective solution. Often they cause more problems and inconveniences for the owner than they are useful and protect against thieves. This is especially true for cheap solutions. The reason is that the metal of such secretions is “raw”, they lick off, quickly become corroded, sour, etc.

To avoid such troubles with wheel fasteners, it is better to store the car in a garage or park it in a guarded parking lot. It is also recommended to unscrew and tighten wheel bolts or lockers at least 2 times a year, do not install fasteners with damaged edges on the car, and check the condition of the threads. This approach will allow you to avoid problems and difficulties if you need to remove a car wheel.

Locks for cast wheels and stampings

Remember that the most inconvenient locks to use are those with conical heads. It's easy to explain. Such products require a minimum hole diameter in the wheel, which complicates the unscrewing process. Car enthusiasts complain that it is sometimes even easier to unscrew a bolt with a conical head using a universal key rather than a special one. The reason is the constant slipping of the union head during the unscrewing process.

Universal key for removing secrets

Avoid secret lockers that have angular grooves and protrusions, as well as those made in the shape of stars and polyhedrons. The reason is the ease of unscrewing such bolts. Attackers have managed to adapt and do an excellent job using box or socket wrenches. You are required to spend time choosing the appropriate diameter.

When tightening the security bolt, it is not allowed to use a long lever. The reason is the risk of “licking” the head or breaking the product. Also, do not tighten the lock with a bolt gun, otherwise the hub or wheel rim will be damaged. To avoid problems, use a torque wrench and tighten the bolts with a force of 50 N/m.

Follow the screwing sequence. Place the simple bolts on the wheel first, and the locking bolts last. When removing a wheel, the sequence must be reversed. If you follow this rule, the thief will not be able to relieve the pressure of the secret bolt by pressing through the remaining connections.

What tools will you need?

Non-standard bolts that are located on the wheels of the car can be removed without the use of any special tools.

All you need:

  • socket head, the size of which is selected in accordance with the car model and the diameter of the socket;
  • a wrench designed to work with socket heads;
  • small hammer;
  • a new standard bolt individually selected for the wheel parameters;
  • screwdrivers.

Important! To remove security bolts, you do not need to seek help from a locksmith if you don’t have a special key tool at home.

Problems when removing secrets

Removing the wheel lock from the wheel

Often wheel locks are not only reliable protection against thieves, but also a source of problems for the owner. To avoid them, remember the main problems during operation and try to avoid them. The main problem with such products is “licking” (tearing off) the head. There may be several reasons:

  • the bolt stuck to its place. You apply a force of 5-7 kilograms, but instead of unscrewing, you get a deformation of the secret;
  • low reliability of roundness and personal patterns on bolts. Due to a design flaw on the part of the manufacturers, the head cannot withstand excessive forces;
  • Chinese "quality". Often, car enthusiasts save money and prefer low-cost secret lockers. The result is operational problems that lead to even greater costs.

How long does this take?

It has been verified that on average it will take 3 to 5 minutes to remove the wheel lock from a wheel without a special key. Or about 20 - 30 minutes to remove the secret wheel bolts from all 4 wheels.

Friends, there is no need to panic if you have lost the secret to the wheel bolts. First, think about where you could have lost this secret? Is it possible that you put it somewhere and simply forgot about that place? Please don’t write it off and don’t be nervous. Look at all the places in the car where you could put the puller you need.

If you really can't find an original wheel lock key remover, then it's time to use a hammer. The task is quite simple. Using a hammer, drive a regular socket head onto the secret lock and use a socket wrench to unscrew the secret bolt. The point here is this, namely, your secret wheel bolts, no matter how expensive they are, are usually made of soft metal.

So rest assured, you can remove the secrets yourself in a short time without outside help. To do this, find in your garage or in your tool kits a socket that is sized to fit the diameter of the wheel bolt. If you do not have such a head, then purchase one at an auto store. There is no need to purchase expensive socket heads. Cheaper tools will also work for this job.

When selecting the required socket size, use several sizes to ideally select the socket that can actually fit the wheel bolt.

Thanks to the ribbed surface inside the head and the corresponding soft metal of the socket, you can easily and using a hammer change the configuration of the socket to the required profile that the socket head has in the inner diameter.

Now, dear motorists, the fun begins. By carefully hitting the end of the head with a hammer, you naturally simply crush the soft secretion. Ultimately, it begins to acquire (and will acquire) the same appearance as the internal edges of this socket head.

Attention. You must press the socket in such a way that it fits tightly onto the security bolt (so that it sits tightly on the security bolt).

A lever driver is a special metal rod to which socket wrenches are attached. We recommend that all motorists have a similar metal lever. This tool can help you out during numerous difficulties on the road. You can especially be convinced of this after you use it to remove the secret from the wheel yourself.

How does a lever-wrench (torque wrench) for socket heads help so much? In fact, elementary fundamental science – physics – helps us unscrew this secret. In our case, friends, we used a 20-centimeter long lever. You can use a shorter lever. But always remember that the longer the lever, the more force from our movement will flow to the socket head.

Pay your attention to the following: when unscrewing the secret, you should do everything slowly and deliberately. Do not turn the lever too sharply, as you risk turning the socket around the soft lock.

Start slowly pressing the lever. If the lock still does not begin to unscrew, then without releasing your pressure on the lever, wait a little longer and... You will be surprised how easily the lock will begin to give in. In fact, turning the secret wheel bolt does not require enormous force, unlike the same standard wheel bolts, which require much greater force.

After watching the video and the photographs, you may be surprised that using the same Toyota SUV as an example, everything turned out well. After you have removed the lock, you must replace it with a standard steel wheel bolt in its place. True, friends, immediately pay attention to the following: in certain and some cases you will not be able to tighten the bolt back due to damage to the internal thread. But this can be resolved, although not so easily, and in this case you are better off turning to specialists.

But in most cases, after you remove the lock, the thread is not damaged, and you can easily screw the new wheel bolt into place on your own.

Is the socket pressed deep enough into the socket? What should I do?

– Try using a large screwdriver or a chisel to knock the key out of the socket wrench. To do this, you need to install the chisel in a vice. Next, taking the head in your hands, try to knock out the secret from above on a chisel clamped in a vice.

– You can try to knock out the secret with a strong, large screwdriver. To do this, you need to take the socket head inside which the secret is stuck. Next, you need to install a screwdriver on top, also holding it in your hand. Then, using a hammer, try to knock the secret out of the head. In our example, this method did not help the author of the video clip.

– You can see the most reliable method (method) of removing the lock from the socket head, friends, at the very end of this video. Its author himself showed us all a simple and reliable way to remove a secret bolt from the head. To do this, you need to screw the lock, which is tightly pressed into the socket head, back into the threaded connection of the wheel.

Attention! The secret should not be tightened too much again. You need to secure it with the exact level of tightening that will then allow you to unscrew this secret by hand without any problems.

Having screwed the socket slightly back along the thread, try to pull out the socket head. Since the lock will currently be held on a threaded connection, you will most likely remove the head from the lock without any problems. And then, just as easily, unscrew the lock from the wheel.

How to unscrew the secret?

WELDING

When resorting to crude methods that certainly do not involve keeping the secrets in working order, we recommend that you first think about a trip to the nearest car service center. There, for some 100-200 rubles, within 5 minutes they will weld an ordinary bolt to the trickiest one, after which they can be easily unscrewed. This will save not only your time, but also your nerves.

RECRUITMENT AND BRUTE FORCE

And now advice from experts on what to do in a situation where you need to unscrew the bolts, but there is no special key. If the bolt has an external pattern, you need several sets of different socket wrenches, it may be possible to select the appropriate configuration option and remove the wheel with the least loss.

A gas wrench can also be effective, with which you can try to crush the protective ring and unscrew the bolt securing the wheel using brute physical force. The protective skirt can also be cut off using a grinder.

Although the author of the article had the opportunity to try these methods once, the results were very disappointing. It’s not so easy to crush a ring; the lever must be of incredible size, or a heroic force. Using a grinder, even with very careful work, it is difficult not to damage the disc.

Yes, and all this is applicable in the case of stamped disks; this trick will not work on cast disks; the secretions there are usually recessed in deep tunnels.

In the case of alloy wheels, the situation is aggravated not only by the deeply recessed head, but also by the risk of damaging the disk, which often costs several times more than a tire. And if the stamping survives scuffs and scratches, then the “casting” will definitely lose its appearance.

EXTRACTOR

The nut extractor is made of heavy-duty alloy. This is essentially a socket head, inside of which there is a helical thread on the left side. It simply hammers onto the bolt, after which it is safely unscrewed.

GATOR GRIP

This is a universal nozzle that allows you to unscrew any fastener that has a side flange. Inside the nozzle there are 54 spring-loaded hexagonal pins. Thanks to them, the head can adapt to any pattern. It doesn’t always help, but if you have it at hand, it’s worth trying to unscrew the secret with its help.

DRILLING

If the head of the lock has an intricate pattern, and is even equipped with a tight ring that blocks access to it, you will have to use a drill, preferably with a high-strength drill. Having drilled through the core of the secret, you can try to hammer an L-shaped hexagon or something similar into the hole and try to turn it.

BROADCAST

Pulling is considered a very effective method. The essence of the method is as follows: all bolts except the tricky one are tightened with maximum force (it is important not to overdo it and not twist the heads), then the wheel is hung. Often after all the bolts are tightened, it becomes possible to unscrew the lock without much effort.

If you cannot do this the first time, you need to unscrew all the fasteners and try to loosen the wheel on the hub. Treat the bolt with WD-40 multi-purpose lubricant, then tighten the bolts again to the maximum.

This method will not help in one case - when there is more than one lock on one wheel.

Secrets are always relevant

The times when new car tires were in huge short supply, and you had to overpay for them by buying them under the counter, are long gone.

However, problems with theft of car wheels still exist. Any tires cost money, and if you also take into account the cost of stolen wheels, which are often the object of theft, then it turns out that wheel locks have not outlived their useful life at all.

Alloy wheels made of all kinds of magnesium alloys are a very expensive thing, and against this background, the cost of a set of tricky bolts, even the most expensive ones, does not seem so impressive.

In any case, it is important to remember one thing: the secret key should always be at hand, and even more so you should not lose it, otherwise difficulties await you.

How serious they will be depends on what guided your choice: price or reliability. Therefore, when choosing secrets, you should carefully think about what is more important:

  1. choose a kit that is almost impossible to unscrew and remove without the head that comes with it;
  2. take a simpler product, which with little effort can be unscrewed with something without having a special device on hand.

Varieties

All secrets can be divided into several types, depending on the design.

Exterior drawing. The simplest type of bolts (nuts), the secret pattern on which is located on the outside of the head. It has different types of edges, is made in the shape of stars with any number of rays, etc. This is the most primitive type of protection; it is unscrewed by selecting and hammering a suitable head or extractor, a universal Gator Grip head, or a gas wrench.

The next most reliable are secret locks equipped with a protective ring, which reduces the arsenal of attackers. In this case, it is no longer possible to use a gas wrench and an extractor, although if there is a large gap between the bolt and the ring, you can hammer a head with a thin wall. Although, if the ring is made of soft metal, it can be crushed by a gas wrench.

The most reliable are those that have a protective ring and an internal pattern on its end part, which is cut to a shallow depth. With them, the chances of finding your car “taken off” in the morning are minimal; all the methods of unscrewing described above have practically no chance of success. All that remains is welding and reupholstery, which will be discussed below.
