Lamps used on Kalina
The headlights of Lada Kalina 2nd and 1st generations are equipped with H7 low-beam halogen lamps with a power of 55 W and H1 halogen high-beam lamps with the same power. The turn signals are equipped with PY21W orange lamps with a power of 21 W. The lamp dimensions are designated W5W (for 1st generation) and have a power of 5 W. For the second generation, the side light is combined with daytime running lights, a W21 lamp with a power of 5 W.
The layouts are as follows:
What's the result?
As you can see, if the low beam or other lamps on Kalina need to be replaced, the procedure can be performed on the spot with your own hands. The main thing you need to remember is that each lamp (low, high, side light) has its own designation and power. For this reason, only suitable labeling and power solutions should be purchased in advance.
It is also not difficult to replace the side turn signal bulb or the entire turn signal housing itself. The main thing is to pay attention to the recommendations given above, and also separately take into account some features when removing and installing certain elements.

During the day, the driver fully relies on his vision and reactions, but with the onset of darkness the situation changes dramatically. At this time, our eyes are unable to see much, so the head light becomes an indispensable assistant. Accordingly, if it is faulty, you cannot use the car, so you need to be able to repair it yourself, without resorting to the help of car mechanics.
Installing a new one: sequential instructions
The procedure for removing and installing a headlight, which is located on the right or left side, is not particularly different from each other. It is only important to act strictly according to the instructions. When installing a new light bulb, you must only hold it by the base and do not touch it with your hands. When removed, you can completely hold it in your hands.
Note that for the Lada Kalina (16-valve engine) a lamp with an H7 socket is required. Install the new one as follows:
- Determine the seat so that the protrusion in the base coincides with the groove on the headlight. It must be firmly fixed. Only then will it be clear that the protrusion has fallen into the groove;
- press the latch against the lamp so that the center of the base is between the antennae of the latch;
- snap the latch into place;
- connect both wires to the clamp and close the lid tightly.
Before you start repairs
Before changing the low beam lamp on Kalina, you need to check the integrity of the on-board network:
- When understanding the causes of failure of any component of electrical equipment, you should first make sure:
- the fuse is in good working order;
- look at the circuit connectors, which should be well secured;
- Often the causes of electrical equipment malfunctions are the oxidized ends of the pads; their terminals should be cleaned.
- Take a good look at the places where the car is connected to ground. Often, due to the lack of reliable fastening, disturbances in the functioning of electrical equipment occur, so replacing low beam lamps on Kalina may not always help with the problem.
- the equipment will help to find faulty places in the electrical circuit;
- is a combined electrical measuring device.
There are several types of such devices:
- digital, equipped with a liquid crystal display;
- analog;
- universal models, characterized by the presence of a liquid crystal screen and a dial indicator.
Conclusion
Replacing lamps or restoring their functionality is not a difficult task, so it can be done without involving car service specialists right on the road. To do this, you need to make sure that you always have the necessary spare parts - a set of fuses, a relay and the appropriate light bulb. The video in this article will give you the opportunity to find additional information on the above topic.
At night, visibility, and, consequently, the safety of driving a car, primarily depends on the condition of the headlights. If during the day the driver only needs vision to monitor the road situation, then at night or when driving through tunnels it is impossible to do without artificial lighting of the road. Driving at night with non-functioning lamps or missing headlights is prohibited by traffic rules. In many countries, regulations require that lights be turned on even when driving during the day. Knowing how to change a low beam light bulb on a Kalina allows the driver to fix the problem right on the road, without wasting time on a trip to the service station.
Tips for choosing headlight bulbs
When choosing a replacement lamp for low beam headlights, the following criteria must be taken into account:
- View. The new light bulb must be the same as the previously installed one, or correspond to the control parameters. For example, xenon and LEDs require a luminous flux controller. Otherwise, equipping headlights with such lamps will be contrary to the rules and will impede the passage of technical inspection.
- Design. Lamps are divided into single-filament lamps - only low beam H7, and double-filament lamps - H4 - low beam and high beam. The choice depends on the headlight itself. They can have one mounting slot (for one lamp) or two compartments – for two lighting devices.
- Power. According to this indicator, when replacing lamps, they must comply with the factory standard, otherwise, in an effort to increase the illumination of the highway, you can blind an oncoming traffic participant and provoke an accident.
- Base. When replacing a lamp, it is best to take the old one with you to the auto shop and use it to compare the dimensions of the seat of the new model.
- Number of copies. With good quality, warranty and reliability of the manufacturer, it is better to buy several copies with a reserve than to be left without low beam in an emergency situation.
- Brand. The most well-known manufacturers with good quality products today are Bosch, Philips, Osram, Koito and others.
In addition to all the above factors, when purchasing a replacement lamp for low beam headlights, you need to take into account the conditions in which they will be used. The degree of moisture protection is a very important parameter when choosing them.
Low beam lamp “Kalina”: causes of malfunctions
Lamp burnout is the most common malfunction. Sometimes this begins to happen too often, which indicates the occurrence of an additional factor that causes the breakdown.
Important: when installing halogen lamps, it is necessary to monitor the cleanliness of the bulb and prevent contamination. Therefore, even contact of the skin of your fingers with the glass of the flask is unacceptable.
Reasons why the low beam lamp “Kalina” does not light:
- Failure of the fuse protecting the lamp power circuit.
- Depressurization of the headlight housing and dirt and dust getting inside. The bulb and reflector of the lamp become dirty, which leads to its overheating and failure of the filament.
- Unstable operation of the generator voltage regulator. Voltage surges in the on-board network greatly accelerate the failure of halogen lamps.
- Malfunction of the power supply circuit of external lighting devices, for example, oxidation and poor contact of lamp plugs, wire breakage.
Recommended types of lamps for Kalina
During assembly, LADA “Kalina” cars are equipped with 55-watt low-beam lamps from the German company OSRAM, designed to operate at a voltage of 12 volts. Instead, you can install H7 modification lamps, for example, Phillips Extreme Vision, GE SportLight. These brands are unpleasantly surprising with the price of the lamps, but they are very pleasing with their service life and, most importantly, the power of the luminous flux. The last factor has a decisive influence on the safety of night driving. You can save a little by installing lamps from Russian manufacturers on Kalina. Among them, the products of the Mayak plant stand out. The low-beam lamp “Kalina” from this company, at a very affordable price, is practically not inferior to its foreign analogues.
Tips for choosing headlight bulbs
Currently, the most commonly used bulbs are H7 sockets. They are divided into:
- halogen;
- LED;
- halogen with xenon effect;
- xenon
Halogen lamps have the most average performance. These lamps are the most common among car owners. But these lamps are also the shortest lasting due to their high heat. Halogen lamps with xenon effect always have an increased service life compared to conventional halogen lamps.
LED lamps are more economical, but are more vulnerable to external influences: impacts, shocks. But at the same time, LED lamps are record holders in terms of service life. Also, having purchased these light bulbs, you may encounter some difficulties when adjusting the light beam, described below in the article.
Xenon lamps are immune to shock and vibration. Their temperature regime is closest to that of daylight. But not everyone can afford such lamps due to their high cost. Also, xenon bulbs require the installation of an additional light ignition unit.
As a rule, when choosing replacement light bulbs, drivers are guided by reliability and low cost. An important factor is also the efficiency of lamps in conditions of poor visibility. Philips and BOSCH bulbs fit these criteria perfectly among halogen bulbs. Philips light bulbs, like almost all other products from this company, are the longest-lasting halogen lamps, but also less bright.
An exception is Philips “X-Treme Vision”, which produces LED bulbs with increased luminous flux, but their service life is lower than that of their classmates. BOSCH lamps, on the contrary, wear out faster, but, as a rule, they shine brighter. The color range of the light beam from BOSCH light bulbs is also more diverse.
Among LED light bulbs, the highest quality ones are Philips “X-Treme Vision” and the Korean “MTF-Light Argentum” series with high glow temperature and brightness.
The most popular halogen bulbs with xenon effect are produced by Koreans. "MTF-Light Palladium" is a lamp with a fairly high glow temperature (5500 K) and the attractive effect of expensive xenon. This model is also the most budget-friendly of xenon lamps. Also worth highlighting is “Osram Cool Blue Intense”, which is visually close to the original xenon. The light emanating from such a lamp has an attractive white-blue tint.
The most popular xenon lamp in Russia is “MaxLux H7”. The ratio of its cost and characteristics is quite favorable. This lamp, with a cost of up to 950 rubles, has milky white and bluish shades and a glow temperature from 4300 to 6000 K. The disadvantage of the lamp is its production in Chinese Sho-Me factories, which sometimes gives reason to doubt the quality and integrity when delivering goods to the shops.
Always carefully check the lamps you purchase for unexpected cracks or deformations!
For more expensive models, there are top Japanese manufacturers such as KOITO MANUFACTURING. The cost of such lamps is the highest, but the quality is strikingly different from their colleagues for the better.
You can find the cheapest light bulbs from domestic ones and from Dialuch. But only one thing can be said about these light bulbs - their low price fully corresponds to their quality. Such bulbs are more suitable for owners of domestic cars and cars assembled in Russian factories (for example, Hundai “Accent” and Renault “Logan”).
Replacing a low beam lamp on a LADA “Kalina”
Before changing the low beam bulb on a Kalina, you need to place the car on a level surface, turn on the parking brake and disconnect the ground wire from the battery. The procedure for replacing the left and right lamps, since access to the latter is blocked by the windshield washer reservoir. To remove it, you need to do the following:
- remove the power terminals for the electric windshield washer motor (on the Kalina station wagon or hatchback there are two motors installed);
- unscrew the bolt securing the washer reservoir located above the headlight;
- loosen the nut securing the rear part of the reservoir to the body in the area of the right shock absorber strut;
- remove the tank from the car.
Tip: When removing the reservoir, try not to spill washer fluid.
When access to the headlight is open, replacing the right and left low beam lamps is done in the same way. Access to the left lamp is a little difficult due to the installed expansion tank. It is very difficult to dismantle it without losing coolant. To remove the low beam lamp, you must:
- remove the rubber cover, opening access to the headlight;
- remember the location of the two power wires connected to the headlight and disconnect them;
- press the steel latch bracket and lift it;
- remove the latch bracket from the grooves and move it to the side;
- remove the Kalina low beam lamp, holding it by the contacts.
Important: when installing a new lamp, contamination should not be allowed when the bulb comes into contact with your fingers, so work should be done with clean fabric gloves. If the flask becomes dirty, wipe it with a cloth moistened with alcohol.
Installing the lamp is done as follows:
- insert a new lamp into the headlight unit, turning the base so that its protrusion is aligned with the groove in the lampshade;
- fix the lamp with a latch bracket, inserting the latter into the grooves (you must be careful that the lamp does not
- turned and the protrusion of the base did not move relative to the groove;
- check the reliability of the latch;
- connect the power wires, observing the polarity;
- Replace the rubber cover.
If the washer reservoir was removed, you need to install it in place and connect the wires to the motor(s). After completing the work, you should connect the ground wire to the battery and check the functionality of the headlight.
